Hello & Welcome

Roughly 8 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in October I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping November will see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Forgot to weigh in yesterday because i woke up in a lot of pain. Today am up quite a bit and still in pain with a horrible period. So putting it down to that hopefully.
Hope evrything is olay @SunshineCake

TheRealHousewife · 03/11/2020 09:43

Hope you feel better soon @rivierliedje! Do you take anything to ease it?

I think someone asked about smart scales in the last page. I have Renpho scales and can recommend. The app is great and I like the fact theyโ€™re rechargeable.

rivierliedje · 03/11/2020 13:31

@justanotherneighinparadise That's interesting. Great that they are rechargeable. What does the app do?

Thank you @TheRealHousewife. I take mefenamic acid but it doesn't seem to be touching it really. They're always bad but this one is particularly so. I had one glorious year where I took the pill back to back but i felt quite low on that. The irony is that I work in women's health.
I'm trying not to give in to the cravings and am just drinking nice tea and concentrating on work.

justanotherneighinparadise · 03/11/2020 13:45

They give you data such as body fat, bone density etc. I take it all with a pinch of salt but itโ€™s been interesting to see the trends over the months and how some things have fluctuated etc. They were only twenty odd quid from amazon. A million times better than my old bathroom scales that gave me a different number every time I stood on them.

cloudofdreams · 03/11/2020 15:55

It's carnage in my house with the weighing scales.

I set it to stone and pounds, my DH changes it to lbs and my DD (modern lady) changes it to KG.

I quite often have to get my calculator out.๐Ÿ˜‚

SunshineCake · 03/11/2020 16:08

Same here. I want stones and pounds and dd and ds1 want kg.

DS2 results aren't perfect so GP speaking to specialist. She told me not to worry. Lockdown might mean he doesn't get the check he needs. So much for the NHS is there for us AngrySad.

Doseydots · 03/11/2020 16:09

Good afternoon, just doing a quick check in. I am still feeling motivated and I havenโ€™t had a binge yet which is good for me. I have done the walking workouts in YouTube which I am loving. I am thinking about getting some resistance bands too.

I have a soup maker which I use on a lunchtime to both warm and fill me up.

Thank you for keeping me motivated, itโ€™s only 3 days into the month but so far so good !

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/11/2020 17:52

Hi all

Oh i really hope that they can sort something @SunshineCake I've had a letter for my scan which surprised me and they said it will go ahead despite lock down...

Uhm @FatGirlShrinking I can't really comment because i didn't have to lose a large amount, but I'm still quite flabby/bloated in the stomach department hence the GP looking into PCOS. Is your NHS exercises doing core work? Yoga with Adrienne has quite a few targeted things for core including quick under 10 minute ones.

I'm sure you will know when to stop with the loss and it may be higher than 64. May be an idea to just look at clothes size too. I'm now in size 12 jeans and happy enough with that...

Waves to everyone. @fallfallfall I walked with Lesley last night instead of sitting and scoffing chocolate Wink

FatGirlShrinking · 03/11/2020 17:59

Ah I feel all of your pain on the scales issues. I grew up with stones and lbs, I can understand it. Then everyone moved to lbs so I started to use that, now everyone talks in kilos and my head just can't seem to calculate it. That's why I made my spreadsheet, I put in the lbs and it automatically tells me what that means in stones and kilos so I don't have to try to convert it all the time and can respond on threads in the language everyone else is usingGrin

The belly thing is odd, my stomach has been big for years and we're talking an excess hundred lbs of fat on my body so proper big, but it's always felt quite firm. The last week or so it's gone really soft and squishy like it's all deflated. Definitely not even close to it being just skin yet, there's definitely lots of fat, just a different type??

fallfallfall · 03/11/2020 18:16

oh @MrsJonesAndMe, which walk did you do? there are so many that are pleasant. do you have little hand weights or an exercise band? i'm starting the month 142 ish. so not much progress from october but i'm content.
hardware removal surgery booked for the 18th.

SunshineCake · 03/11/2020 19:23

The conversion thing is annoying as I tried it and sometimes so many pounds is not the exact same as so many kilos. For example 140lbs might be 55 kilos but 55 kilos translates to 148 lbs. I know these numbers aren't accurate!

SunshineCake · 03/11/2020 19:26

I use the Nivea firming moisturiser. I do think I see a difference when I don't use it. I only get it when it is on offer though.

PontiacBandit · 03/11/2020 20:58

Those are the ones I bought, brilliant aren't they?
MrsJonesAndMe · 03/11/2020 21:16

Ah good luck @fallfallfall will that put you back for a while or good to go straight away? I just did a 20 minute one where she spoke about pilates as I'd already walked a few miles during the day.

Sounds odd @FatGirlShrinking no help I'm afraid!

TheRealHousewife · 03/11/2020 22:50

@SunshineCake Ive confused myself. See below. Each calculation I put in search engine:-

140lbs in KG = 63.5kg

55KG in lbs = 121.2lbs

121lbs in KG = 54.8kg

The first 2 are from your post. The 3rd is from 55KG if that makes sense. Does this help?

@rivierliedje I was on that at one time and didnโ€™t do anything for me either. Have you been tested for endometriosis? Nothing touches that other than surgery. Hope you feel better soon!

I should have used actual conversions but couldn't be bothered to google. Yours, @TheRealHousewife were closer than when I did it with my actual weight a while ago.

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/11/2020 06:51

Argh I honestly thought I was going to have lost today and yet Iโ€™m still the same bloody weight to the nearest decimal point!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Itโ€™s crazy how much my body is determined not to lose. Iโ€™m sticking to my diet plan dutifully. No cheating. I swear if there was a nuclear fallout it would just be me and the cockroaches left as my body is so determined to survive ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

justanotherneighinparadise · 04/11/2020 06:53

Look at my weight loss graph. Just tiny increments of loss over a year. My DP lost a stone in a month. ๐Ÿคฌ

rivierliedje · 04/11/2020 06:58

@TheRealHousewife It has crossed my mind, but I don't have any other symptoms at all. My sisters also have terrible periods and have coils.
It's getting better. I'm cycling to work today and stopping by to swim in the sea on the way home (not for long, it's freezing!)
Then I'll probably go for a walk this evening.
Have had porridge for breakfast, having leftover vegetable green thai curry (homemade) for lunch and probably leftover homemade vegan lasagna for dinner.

FatGirlShrinking · 04/11/2020 07:31

Start of this weight loss journey was 233lb, BMI 35.4

28/10/2020 - 198lb, BMI 30.1
04/11/2020 - 197lb, BMI 29.9

Loss this week - 1 lb
Loss this month - 1 lb
Total loss since starting - 36 lb

PontiacBandit · 04/11/2020 08:10

I've put on 100g from yesterday. But the graphs are telling me it's muscle not fat. How does it know? Witchcraft. Either way, normally it have given up after seeing it rise but now I'm pleased my morning workouts are having an effect.
IF suits me too, I love having brunch anywhere between 11-2 and then dinner around 5-6. I've completely stopped snacking, if I'm peckish I'll have a cup of tea.
