Hello & Welcome

Roughly 8 weeks to Christmas ๐ŸŽ„. We all know itโ€™s been a strange unsettling year. Unprecedented. Nonetheless we all deserve to feel the best we can, be the best we can and strive to be as fit and healthy as possible. Not only will you look great in your finery, youโ€™ll be (to a degree) improving your immune system and your ability to fight infection should you get one. In addition, if we eat right, get outside, move more your mental health will heap the rewards. Better mental health = better choices. It becomes a self fulfilling prophecy.

Me personally? In the main itโ€™s been a way of life for nearly 3 years and Iโ€™ve lost over 40lbs. I had a bit of blip at the start of C19. After all my hard work I just started eating with impunity. Before I knew it I was10lbs up in a few short weeks! I needed to get back on it and COVID proof myself ๐Ÿ˜ฌ I calorie count, log via MFP app, Intermittent fast, eat-low carb Mediterranean style aka Fast800 Plan and try to stay well hydrated. Due to some unfortunate circumstances in October I didnโ€™t really lose but did maintain. Iโ€™m hoping November will see me firmly in the healthy BMI bracket.

There are so many enjoyable lifestyle options out there without the need to resort to extreme measures. Whatever way you choose, it needs to be enjoyable & sustainable for the long term. This is a long term commitment rather than a quick fix. I also rarely drink alcohol and keep sugar to a minimum. I exercise by doing walking vids & strength sessions with lite weighs.

As no one size fits all members need to follow their own way of eating. Nonetheless this thread aims to offer guidance, support and a bit of hand holding.

There is no shaming, competition or harsh words to be found on this thread. We are in this together.

Yeah, some other tall ones Wink

We din't do anything social really either @FatGirlShrinking. I've had a few walks with friends in the 7 months.... but as a family there's a little coffee shop we could visit and the children could see a friend and that's gone, but I'm pleased that the school is open too. The stress of trying to work and home school was unbelievable and with the weather turned Confused

Have a good week all x

Trisolaris · 02/11/2020 09:22

Iโ€™m 5โ€™4 @MrsJonesAndMe - often feel jealous of you taller people as you get a bigger calorie allowance!

Dp and I went out for a last meal at our favourite restaurant before lockdown. I ate more than I have eaten in a long time but did run 3k earlier in the day. Still feel full today so am going to try and eat the bare minimum to make up for it!

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2020 09:39

Good Morning All ... that was a good start ... initially posted in the October thread ๐Ÿคฆโ€โ™€๏ธ ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Hope you all a great weekend considering the sobering update about the lockdown.

I for one will turn it to a positive to increase self care and increase my C19 firewall.

As of 17:30 yesterday I commenced a 36 hour fast. Sounds extreme but Iโ€™ve read around it and feel it would be beneficial to me to have a reset as I embrace Novemberโ€™s challenge. Iโ€™m not promoting or recommending it for anyone (you all know what works for you and as we know weight loss isnโ€™t a one size fits all endeavour). I will end my fast Tuesday morning. Doesnโ€™t sound to bad in theory. Iโ€™ll be having black coffee, tea with a small amount of ss milk, water and if I get desperate Miso paste in hot water. Nothing solid at all.

Right ... Iโ€™m off to get ready for my Zoom yoga ๐Ÿง˜โ€โ™€๏ธ.

Wishing you all a great week whatever youโ€™re doing!

@Trisolaris to me you are a taller person ... Iโ€™m shy of 5ft .... ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

justanotherneighinparadise · 02/11/2020 09:44

I shall join you all if thatโ€™s okay as I got chucked out my last slimming group for not abiding by the rules ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

I have lost 17lb over the last year and have 7lbs to go until goal. My BMI is now 23.8 and I think I started at 26/27. So feeling great. I just want to be a little bit leaner if possible and fit more comfortably into my jeans.

Iโ€™m following a ketogenic diet. I have a device that tracks my ketones. I try and fast until midday each day and then eat two low carb meals a day.

Iโ€™ll go catch up on the thread now xx

Trisolaris · 02/11/2020 09:55

@TheRealHousewife haha perspective is everything right!

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2020 10:58

@justanotherneighinparadise Youโ€™re very welcome, jump on board. Out of interest how did you break the rules in your last group? ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

OP posts:
FatGirlShrinking · 02/11/2020 11:02

@justanotherneighinparadise I was wondering that too Grin I'm imagining you being kicked out for snacking without permission ๐Ÿ˜‚

We don't really have rules, just be nice to everyone, try your best and keep finding the humour in life where possible.

justanotherneighinparadise · 02/11/2020 11:19

There were some very specific parameters everyone had to work within and I didnโ€™t realise. Iโ€™m crap at reading the small print! ๐Ÿคฆ๐Ÿปโ€โ™€๏ธ

Lambkin14 · 02/11/2020 11:45

@MrsJonesAndMe I'm 5'10 so I always feel the same as you, that my goal weight is way above a lot of peoples starting weights!

Is anyone else here breastfeeding? I know you're not supposed to restrict too much whilst still bfing but seeing as my little one is 16 months I assume it doesn't matter too much. I've heard a few people say the weight dropped off once they stopped bfing too but I'm not quite ready to stop yet (nor is my dc!)

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/11/2020 12:22

Hurrah, I'm not quite as tall as some here, but 5 7, so taller than some.

I fed @Lambkin14 but mine and everyone else's (I think) are past that stage. I lost the weight as soon as I gave birth - both times - and then gained through stress the first time and thyroid issues the 2nd time....

I don't calorie count too lazy but do 16:8 which does help restrict naturally. Maybe that is a good place to start for you?

Goodness @TheRealHousewife good luck with that!

CescaNicole · 02/11/2020 13:10

@Lambkin14 I'm breastfeeding my 8 week old! Sticking to 1400 calories a day and so far hasn't affected my supply. I definitely imagine at 16 months restricting within reason would be ok for your supply!
Can't comment on the weight falling off once stopping - I only stopped feeding my 1st when I realised I was pregnant with #2 Shock so unfortunately I just gained even more weight Sad.

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2020 14:14

My goodness there are some Amazonia women on here. My and @cloudofdreams are similar in height and weight I think so Iโ€™m not totally on my own down here looks up at all the willowy ladies ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

OP posts:
justanotherneighinparadise · 02/11/2020 14:19

Iโ€™m 5ft 7 so I guess slightly above average. People are getting taller though!!

SunshineCake · 02/11/2020 17:54

Hello everyone.

I used to be 5 foot six but now I'm an inch shorter.

Proud to be name checked @TheRealHousewife and actually I do think I am doing really well. Dropping to another stone lower level actually seems achievable by the end of the year and I even said to dh this morning my size 12 jeans are a bit big but I doubt I can get into a 10 yet.. It feels achievable even though I don't think I can get that light.

Fasting is really good. As soon as we have dinner that is it. No supper, no mid evening food and then I eat at lunch though sometimes I do have a bite of something 10/11am which hopefully doesn't ruin he fast.

I was up about a pound and half over the weekend but after my 7km run it is off and hopefully on Wednesday I will register a loss.

Welcome to all our newbies. We are a lovely bunch.

I'm shattered today and cross. DS school has cocked up their payment system, haven't replied to dh emails and then refused to take money from ds today so he had no lunch Angry. Also, his blood tests are back and he's not okay. Speaking to doctor tomorrow. Trying not to panic.

TheRealHousewife · 02/11/2020 18:18

@SunshineCake sorry to hear your ds bloods are out. Fingers crossed itโ€™s easily treated. Iโ€™d be fuming too about no lunch ... that is punitive and cruel. Iโ€™d complain ... officially!

OP posts:
SunshineCake · 02/11/2020 18:42

Thanks @TheRealHousewife. I'll get an early call around nine, hopefully.

DH has complained. Grr. If they had done their job we could have put money on the account but that is irrelevant. Feed the child! I am sure since they feed him when he has overspent they could have sorted something out fgs.

MrsJonesAndMe · 02/11/2020 19:42

OMG @SunshineCake I'd be so cross! Hand hold from me till you can speak to the GP tomorrow x

FatGirlShrinking · 02/11/2020 19:45

@SunshineCake I really hope the call tomorrow with the GP is OK and whatever the results are that they're seeing are easily treatable.

I'd be upset about the lunch too, make sure you get him to Chuck some cereal bars in his bag for emergencies in case it happens again.

The recent changeable weather has made my skin a mess so I'm sitting here with a 'Thermogenic silver, vitamin C and green tea' sheet mask on. It's weird feeling because it's gloopy and warms up over time, plus I look like a haggard human/robot hybrid as it's made of tin foil like paper ๐Ÿ˜‚ Will let you all know if it lives up to the 'anti-aging' description and turns me 10 years younger so you can all rush to Sainsbury's for your very own magic mask.

BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers · 02/11/2020 19:51

FatGirlShrinking how cool, we are goal weight buddies!

I hit a new low figure on the scales this morning, but we had a 'treat' tea (everything out of a bag in the freezer) and a movie night with popcorn, as balm to a sudden rash of Separation Wobbles.
It can count as my cheat day.
Got in a good long walk with the dog, I'm going to make an effort to find new places to walk him, to up my motivation.

FatGirlShrinking · 02/11/2020 20:00

@BlowThisForEggAndSoldiers I've got twice as much to lose to get there though ๐Ÿ˜‚ you can tell me what it looks like to be 64kg and our height, I've never even been close and have this ridiculous worry I'll be skeletal as just cannot even begin to imagine what my body at such a comparatively low weight will look and feel like.

Planning for a fireworks party for DD this weekend. She's sad because we usually go to a big display in the city, she gets to stay up late, eat fast food, get a light up wand from one of the sellers and go on the rides at the fairground so it's a real highlight for her. So I need to be really really good this week to make up for all the crap I'm going to eat on Saturday!

PontiacBandit · 02/11/2020 21:12

Wow this thread moves fast!!

Day 2 of YouTube workout done, I'm aching but it has been amazing even getting out of bed an hour earlier for it wasn't too bad, I didn't even need my morning coffee.

Treated myself to a smart scale, I have no clue how it calculates all the water and fat % but I love how it links in with Google fit, it's magic. Looking forward to my dumbbells and medicine ball arriving for some weight training. ๐Ÿ’ช๐Ÿ‹๏ธโ€โ™€๏ธ

Lambkin14 · 02/11/2020 21:28

Oh I'm so tempted by the smart scale @PontiacBandit (great name btw!), let us know what it's like!

I've just found the severe lack of sleep from
A child who never wanted to sleep led me to comfort eat and hence why I'm the same weight I left the hospital at 16 months ago. DC has hopefully started sleeping through now ๐Ÿคž๐Ÿผso I'm hoping I'll be in a better place mentally to be more mindful of what I'm eating and have more energy to exercise! The firebreak has been good as well as we've stopped eating out all the time to make up for lockdown, hoping that will continue when restrictions ease next week.

FatGirlShrinking · 02/11/2020 22:30

Ok I've been working my way up to asking this question because...yuck but hey it's late, we're all friends her so here goes...

For those of you who are or have lost a lot of weight, did you notice a stage where your fat went extra squishy and kind of marshmallowy on your belly. If so, please tell me it improved and you didn't just end up with a very squishy floppy load of skin on your belly!

TheRealHousewife · 03/11/2020 08:10

Good Morning Ladies

Hi @FatGirlShrinking you can ask whatever you want on here. Yes I think I know the stuff you mean. It literally is your body breaking down and dispersing your fat cells. Before they will have been plump and full but after all your hard work youโ€™ve cut off their food supply ... so they are literally shrinking before your very eyes. Exercise, exercise, exercise ๐Ÿ˜ฌ

Not broke my fast yet. Having a black coffee just now and will have something late morning (can never face food in a morning anyway). I had a miso drink yesterday around 18:00 and havenโ€™t felt particularly hungry to be honest. I must have had good balanced macros of fat, protein & carbs on Sunday for it to has sustained me.

Have a good day!
