Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Wow, looking at those monthly numbers, I hadn't realised the longer term patterns were so consistent. Monthly losses of 2.5, 2.4, 2.3 and 2.1lb.

FedNlanders · 26/02/2021 09:21

Wow thats incredible! Well done!

Knittingnanny · 26/02/2021 12:00

That’s really good, what app are you using? I’m just using the health one on my iPhone and can see it does average weight loss but don’t know if it tracks monthly
I have one more pound to lose before I weigh what I did before having third child ( 9 st 1) who will be 30 this year, still trying to aim for 8.13 by end of March which will be my weight before getting pregnant with child no 1 in 1982!
It’s so slow though, after losing Xmas excess couple of pounds I’m only down one pound in total in 2 months.

This thread is keeping me on track though so thank you everyone.

Knittingnanny · 26/02/2021 12:01

I feel a bit like the matriarch of this shorties thread!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 26/02/2021 12:15

That's amazing @Knittingnanny to be getting down to your weight from 30 years ago is something I doubt many people achieve!

I bought some Bluetooth scales that connect to their app, called Fitdays. They weren't too expensive but I love stats so the trends and graphs on there really keep me focused.

And I think of you as the shorties' matriarch too Smile

Knittingnanny · 26/02/2021 13:41

Haha! But sadly it does mean that I’ve spent 30 years on off bloody weight watching!

Knittingnanny · 26/02/2021 13:42

And as the matriarch , I’ll just remind you all to keep moisturising your necks!! My top tip to keep youthful looking as possible!

Method · 26/02/2021 21:27

Thanks for the tip @Knittingnanny. Well done to you and @neverenoughchelseaboots for being in the 8s! All was going so well this week until the girls saw the takeaway leaflet through the letter box and DH came home with an unexpected bonus and they all decided on a takeaway 😫. I went for steamed prawn dumping and a bit of rice, hopefully it wasn't too bad. Weigh day on Sunday!

FedNlanders · 27/02/2021 08:26

Morning all. The blue tooth scales sound brilliant. I really want some, mine were cheap but I do tend to get kind of obsessed with weighing.
I'm down 2lbs from last week. Not had the best week but my good days were super good!

neverenoughchelseaboots · 27/02/2021 10:45

It's these ones @FedNlanders

They're really consistent too unlike some scales I've had in the past.

FedNlanders · 27/02/2021 13:12

Wow thats a really good price. Im tempted. Hope they don't say I weigh more than mine Wink

RainbowCookie · 28/02/2021 18:11

I’m still hanging in there. Start weight 54.6kg at start of Jan, weighed in at 50.1kg this morning, so 4,5kg in total.
Exercise is still going really well, still doing 6 days a week with the occasional 7 days. I’m really enjoying it, sets me up nicely for the day.
I works love to get down to my pre kids weight of 48,5kg.
I’m definitely losing cm as week which is great. I recommended a good measure of all your body parts if you need more motivation!

modernfemininity · 28/02/2021 21:16

Well done @RainbowCookie ... you are where I would like to be and where I am aiming but I am not trying very hard at all.. having just eaten non diet friendly cashews and raisins and dried mango and dark chocolate!! Blush.

Weigh in for me tomorrow. I am guessing I will be about 51.5kg (up a little bit).

Those last kilos down to 48.5 are very hard to lose and to stay lost!!! I was there just before Christmas and felt great.

WellTidy · 28/02/2021 21:39

I never weigh on scales that aren’t mine for that very reason! I always fear someone coming here and weighing on mine and finding that they weigh half a stone less than expected!

I was 9st 12.75lb this morning which is the lowest I’ve been for over a year. But still over a stone too heavy! Moving in the right direction though.

modernfemininity · 01/03/2021 09:15

DaffodilDaffodilDaffodilMorning all and happy St David’s Day DaffodilDaffodilDaffodil

Thank you to the youthfully-weighing @Knittingnanny for the neck moisturising advice. I have upped my game. I am grateful YOU are our matriarch because that’s normally me (I am 52 with slightly younger friends)... and also I am so thankful especially to @SwimmingOnEggshells for being our FOUNDER. @Swimming your last weigh in was very good at only 123.75 and how are things now?

Shorties Unite!

@WellTidy was under 10st and doing well and probably looking tidy too Wink (unlike me with my hair (!) and those couple of kilos added to my short thighs), and @RainbowCookie had lost 4.5kg which I envy.

@neverenoughchelseaboots has given us a very good table of consistent (though slowing) monthly average weigh loss as her way of measuring which I liked. It’s a successful formula and I did the same. I didn’t do the running you so though!! Nor give up the booze. Well done you!! I wanted to reach out to you too @never because when I lived in a renovation I was fairly stressed and it was very hard for me. I hope you’re ok. How is it going?

@Method you gave me the smiles. Haha I loved the sound of “Unexpected Bonus buys celebration Take Away” - this is just the sort of thing that crushes my willpower to diet but also I believe it is so important to be part of the clan, to join in the fun, to live a little. Did it affect your weight? I bet you can dip again.

Today I am more focussed. My weigh in was up to 51.4kg this morning Sad but the sun is shining and spring is sprung, and the release of lockdown is coming soon... and so I really want to get my little excess bit of blubber shifted off my tummy and thighs.

Maintaining? Me? Nope! I am back on the diet wagon. Lots of loving support being sent to you lovely shortie ladies! We can only do our best! HaloDaffodil

Morningmaeve · 01/03/2021 10:17

Happy St David's Day to my fellow shorties - it definitely felt spring-like this weekend and that was wonderful. I am taking today off as we have a birthday in the house but I'll be back with renewed effort tomorrow. Having had a short-lived taste of being under 9st 3lb I want to get back there again asap.

modernfemininity · 01/03/2021 10:57

@Morningmaeve Daffodilyes agree this gorgeous spring weather is wonderful. Also, I definitely support days off to celebrate good things! Have family fun today for the birthday!Cake

Knittingnanny · 01/03/2021 11:22

Thank you modern!
Happy March 1st everyone. I was 9 st 1.5 this morning so I’m happy and the sun is shining here on the south coast.
Last night I put away my warmest padded long winter coats and thickest jumpers. Had a look at my weird fish favourite short sleeved dresses ( size 12) and they are definitely going to be looser on me this spring and summer.
I have to the end of this month to reach my ultimate target of 8.13 then need to work out a maintainable plan to stay under 9!

modernfemininity · 01/03/2021 12:11

Maintenance is hard!
Newspaper says a cold snap is coming, aargh!

Knittingnanny · 01/03/2021 15:05

I think maintaining is harder than losing in the long term

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/03/2021 15:08

@modernfemininity I'm doing well thank you ❤️I'm back to 124lbs/8 stone 12lbs after the weekend but that seems to be the general trend for me, I seem to make the losses Monday-Friday. I'm gunning for 123lbs/8 stone 11lbs this week. I made a batch of celeriac soup which I'm guessing is very low cal and that's all I plan on having for lunch for the next couple of days. It's delicious.

Daily plan is:

Coffee for breakfast
Soup for lunch
Regular dinner
No treats or alcohol

It's so bloody boring dieting but it's definitely paying off so I'm keeping at it. My size 10 skinny M&S jeans that I had to open when I sit down now fit comfortably and I don't even need to suck my tummy in to do up the zip, it's a great feeling. I would LOOOOVE to be back in an 8 but I am happy with this win for now :)

C'mon shorties we can do it!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 01/03/2021 15:15

@RainbowCookie go you! 50kg is brilliant. I was 48kg about 10 years ago but I wonder would it start to age me if I got that thin now (nearly 40)? I have quite a thin face naturally and I might start to look a bit witchy if I get too skinny!

I'm also thinking about @Knittingnanny and her sage advice to look after our necks...I really must be more diligent with the suncream this year. The last couple of years I let myself get a tan on my face and I swear I have more lines now because of it. In particular around my mouth which I find quite unattractive, I don't even smoke!

modernfemininity · 01/03/2021 15:16

@SwimmingOnEggshells same daily plan as me!

FedNlanders · 01/03/2021 15:19

-2 at weekend and at 9st 13, not weighed since Saturday. Really trying to hold off doing so.

Been on 5k walk today and on track for a 1200 cal day. I'm actually not hungry but I am super stressed :(

WellTidy · 01/03/2021 16:22

These low 9s and high 8 stone weigh-ins are fantastic. I think you’re doing fantastically well. I am 9st 12.5lb this morning so I’m going in the right direction. But it’s a real challenge for me - I find it so dull eating so little (compared to how much I ate when I was gaining) and feeling seriously deprived. But. I like the weight loss more, so on I go!
