Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(

Well done knitting nanny for resisting the magnums! I am struggling with Noom as have still not lost weight! Might go back to 5:2.
I have so many clothes I cannot get into and I refuse to get rid of them as I live in hopes that one day I might.😘by the way my waist has expanded with the menopause and I really can’t think of how to remedy this😭
I have always taken old sandals on holiday and worn them out completely, then thrown them away before coming home. As for knickers I have often bought paper ones😂

Morning all and happy weigh-in day to Friday weighers.

After a bad week I'm pleased to have escaped the return of the '9' at 8st 13.9!

I've looked back and that's bang on where I was a month ago. I've always struggled to get below 9, even in younger, child free days so I'm wondering if I've found my natural equilibrium.

I've given up wine again for lent so will see if I can continue to lose a few pounds, still striving for the 8st 10lbs goal.

WellTidy · 19/02/2021 12:16

never that’s great to stay under 9 stone. Well done. I am celebrating being under 10st, for the first time in about ten months. 9st 13.25 today. I am amazed and so motivated now. Aiming for 9st 7lb at Easter, and will take it half a stone at a time from there. It’s going to get more difficult from here, I think.

Knickers- I do similarly with toothbrushes. But new, leave the new ones and home, take the old ones and bin them when packing up to go home. Doesn’t release quite the same amount of packing space as undies for the whole family though!

Knittingnanny · 19/02/2021 12:30

Yes toothbrushes here as well, also I keep the “ ends” of makeup tubes and pots and use those up on holiday as well. Goodness knows when we will be able to go on holiday and use them though!
It will be 2 years this august since I saw middle son and grandchildren in USA and over a year since I saw eldest and family in Singapore. Thank goodness for FaceTime. Just done it now before the little ones go off to bed in Singapore. They barely know me which is so sad.
Well done with the getting under 9 stone, I am still hoping to get there. I’ll be over the moon with even 8.13.9!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 19/02/2021 12:33

It's so lovely to hear from you @modernfemininity, I enjoy your musings which are always so eloquently written.

Generally feeling better the last couple of days, while my DS hasn't seen the consultant yet, he's been answering my emails which is amazing! He's reassured me massively. My mental health seems to be closely linked to how my children are doing - if they're happy and healthy I am too!

Fair play to you @neverenoughchelseaboots on giving up alcohol for Lent, I'm thinking of just giving up wine. I seem to to be able to moderate my drinking when I have a g&t or a whiskey, but wine is just a killer. I love it too much and find it hard to stop!

I haven't quite lost 2lbs this week, but instead 1.5lbs which puts me at 124lbs or 8 stone 12, with a BMI of 24.2. I started with a BMI of over 26 so I'm very pleased.

Hello all - despite Valentine's prosecco and pancakes on Tuesday i have squeezed under 9st 3lb! Today the scales say 9at 2.8lb. Baby steps. I am 5ft 2in so that gives me a bmi of around 23.7. It was around 26.4 when I began trying to lose some weight. Trying to drink less wine here too to varying levels of success....

Morningmaeve · 19/02/2021 13:39

And I too would be thrilled with 8st 13.9lb!

Method · 19/02/2021 16:08

@neverenoughchelseaboots well done! I can't wait to see an 8 again!
I wished I drank, so I could give it up Grin Well done @Morningmaeve too. My weigh day is on Sunday, but I had a sneak peek this morning and I'm 62.1, so I have lost 600gr. Which is a very small victory after 4 days at 800 calories.
I baked some bread today, the house smells heavenly and I'm trying so hard not to eat the whole lot. If bread had no calories, I would very have had to diet!

modernfemininity · 19/02/2021 17:24

Some very positive updates here! Peeps are happily sharing Who Is The Greatest Loser!
@SwimmingOnEggshells I am just the same - my happiness hinges on the children’s state of mind or their wellness! I am so glad you’re warming up and out of the chills of worry, AND that you’ve lost a bit of weight too. Clever you!

Last night I did skip the rice, but I did have seconds. Portion control is a probbbblem! Strangely though, I can stop at only one glass of wine. Just lucky, I think.

This long running thread is brilliant. Shorties Unite! It is so very different for us to lose weight, to eat a sensible diet for our height, to fluctuate between dress sizes with small gains or losses.

The sun will soon be shining and we will all want to be out there bare legged and bare shouldered, so keep these diets going ..we are beautiful little packages of loveliness, and feeling trimmer makes us feel more able, more active, more energetic.

Won’t it be fantastic to come out of lockdown, when everyone else has swelled around the middle, and we have actually got that little bit slimmer!!!! Yayy!

What do you think of Kylie, who I mentioned earlier? She seems a bit heavier than she was when young. No cellulite though. Her skin and mine is incomparable, and we are the same age and height and probably weight. Is it her beauty regime that keeps her younger, or what?

WellTidy · 19/02/2021 18:55

I bloody love Kylie. Have done for 33 years. She is absolutely amazing. And she looks so good. Toned and proportionate. I think she has work done to her face (no judgement here), but I would imagine she exercises and pays meticulous attention to her diet. I think I’ve read that she barely drinks. I hope she marries, if that’s what she wants, as her chap seems a goodun.

I am her height and build (and just under 10
Stone so we look quite different nowadays!!) but when I was a teenager and 6 stone 10lb or so, she was still much slimmer than I was. I met her then, and she was tiny. I think she may be a bit bigger now but I don’t think there’s much in it.

modernfemininity · 19/02/2021 20:23

Thank you so much @WellTidy. I loved reading that! You met her and you were under 7st!!!!
I think she is heavier now.

So how do we get more Kylie-like now? Lose weight, perhaps face lift (nope - but I dye my thin hair) and then what? Extensions. My thighs aren’t pretty..brushing?

Knittingnanny · 19/02/2021 20:50

Kylie looks amazing, she has a beautiful smile.

SwimmingOnEggshells · 19/02/2021 21:07

I love Kylie too ❤️ @WellTidy In 1988 I got her first album on cassette with my communion money. I used to listen to it on my funky white Sony walkman Grin

I think you're right re. her having work done (no judgement here also) and I'd say she's been getting Botox for years - She doesn't seem to have any lines! And she looks pretty fair skinned so I'd say she never gets the sun...Sunbathing is a real weakness of mine and it's definitely taken its toll.

What was she like when you met her? I'd say she's charming.

“ beautiful little packages of loveliness” a new mantra! Reminds me of little 3 year old granddaughter, when she likes something she says “ knitting nanny, I LOVE it”. 5 year old granddaughter was examining my hands the other day and commented in her innocence about the wrinkliness of them. When I told 3 year old she said “ I LOVE them”
Ordered a couple of summer dresses from weird fish last week, a style called tahlisee or something similar as they seem to suit my shape and height. Was delighted to try them on today and feel enough room in a size 12 to be comfortable and not stretched across my tum. So even though I’ve plateaued maybe I’m not gaining.

WellTidy · 20/02/2021 17:54

Always happy to retell my Kylie story! Even happier when I have a receptive audience; I usually foist it on everyone! Settle in.

I was a massive fan as a young teen, and when she was part of the stock aitken and Waterman (or was it the label PWL?) roadshow, in about 1989, the show came to my city. Tickets couldn’t be purchased: instead they were given out through competitions on local radio stations. I won two (most people did) and they put on a show in late afternoons/early evenings in nightclubs across the country - the show was for under 18s though.

I queued all afternoon (missed school) because it was standing only, and I was about 4 foot 8 then so no chance of seeing anything unless I was at the front. The show was amazing, and I was so emotional all the way through. She would only have been about 20 herself then and working like a dog. I was 14, I think.

Anyway. The show finished and we all trudged up all the stairs and poured out onto the pavement. I realised as I left that I didn’t have my cropped m and s denim jacket (covered in kylie badges), watch and bag. I had been so immersed in it all that I’d lost pretty much all my things. So I walked back in, waking down all the stairs and coming out on the wrong floor (I had no idea that there was more than one floor in there as it was my first time in a club) and - there she was. A buffet had been laid on for the crew and singers, and she was walking around. I was speechless and just cried some more and she came over and gave me a hug. She was wearing a flat cross on a pendant, and I remember it was cold against my face (which was very hot and wet) so she must have been in heels. And she said some comforting words and then the security sent me on my way.

And out I went. And saw the same people from school as I’d seen on the pavement five minutes or so earlier, and nobody believed me when I said that I’d seen her. And I still didn’t have my bag, jacket or watch!

Ladies, I'm having a bad day and wanted to let off steam in a safe space.

I was binging for a good week recently. Every day. Quite severe. DH knows about my struggles. 3 days ago I managed to pull myself together and get back on the diet wagon. Suffering depression as withdrawal. Today I came downstairs to the smell of freshly baked cookies and brownies. DH said they were for the kids. (He makes cookies every few months at most). Why choose now? Sad I feel so bloated and disgusting after my binging. I was already feeling hopeless. Now this has just tipped me into tears.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 20/02/2021 20:40

@PusheenLove I don't have much wisdom or experience on this but wanted to reply as you're feeling down.

Try not to give yourself a hard time or put too much pressure on yourself, it will make everything even bigger and harder.

In my limited experience of dieting, the feeling of being deprived just increases the hardship mentally and causes that blow out. Could you try to introduce changes gradually rather than dieting? Eg halving booze or takeaways etc but not changing normal lunches and evening meals?

I think that might be more liveable.

Hope you're feeling better. xxx

Method · 21/02/2021 01:37

Oh @PusheenLove I'm sorry, men just don't think sometimes. I agree, make sure you don't punish yourself by not allowing yourself nice things. You will get there.

WellTidy · 21/02/2021 09:16

That’s hard Pusheen. The smell of brownies and biscuits would be really hard for me to resist too, even though I think I would be able to resist them if I knew they were in the tin. I hope today is a better day for you. You will get there but please be kind to yourself.

DH knows that I only have a drink Friday Saturday and Sunday, and then it’s an espresso martini (my tipple of choice, and - I think - 150 calories). Yet he asks mid week if I’d like a drink and always asks whether I’d like a second drink after my first. Or whether I’d like a gin with slimline tonic instead. It sounds like a very small thing, and that he’s being polite by offering as he is having one himself etc, but I find it really infuriating! I would love a second drink but can’t, if I am to stay on track.

PusheenLove · 21/02/2021 10:53

Thanks for the empathy and kind words

Method · 21/02/2021 19:06

Did you have a better day today @PusheenLove?

SwimmingOnEggshells · 21/02/2021 23:00

That's rough @PusheenLove, don't be so hard on yourself. I hope you're feeling better today. Men can be so thoughtless sometimes!

@WellTidy great story, well told :) I thoroughly enjoyed reading it.

I'm cross today. I made poor choices yesterday and I've gained 1 1/2 lb (daily weigher) which tips me over 10st. I was so enjoying my three days in the nines. Back to it!

I am at the exact stage right now. Just went below 9 and I'm back to 10st 1 this morning :(
