Shorties trying to lose weight!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 29/09/2020 12:02

I started my fatbusting journey a couple of weeks ago and my plan is to document my progress here.

So far I've been doing a fair bit of cardio - 5 times per week - and I'm hoping this will help me get rid of some lbs. I posted a thread on AIBU looking for people's advice on only using exercise to lose weight but the general consensus is that no, I need to calorie restrict too. Boo! is what I say to that but maybe I need to face facts that I'm no longer a spring chicken and need to make a concerted effort with food too to shed anything!

Anyone want to join me?! @neverenoughchelseaboots

Current weight: 60kg/132lbs
Target: 50kg/110lbs
Height: 5'0 :(

Woooooo congratulations @TheDogsMother!

@InFlagranteDerelicto sounds rubbish. I hope you're feeling better soon. x

Not much to report here except I went to the office for the first time and the work canteen is so very unhealthy so I ended up with mac and cheese. I mean it was delicious but not good for the progress!

But I suppose some things like this stop the monotony. No wine though and a workout this evening so not all bad.

Currently soaking some cannelini beans for a lunch or minestrone and then it will be dhal for supper.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 02/11/2020 21:27

Oh and ice defrosted some of the stewed apples to do some overnight oats with. Thanks for the inspiration @Beroltheperil

Beroltheperil · 03/11/2020 06:27

Congratulations @TheDogsMother !!!!!!

@InFlagranteDerelicto I'm sorry, sounds terrible for you....hard to focus on weight loss when you're going through that. Go easy on yourself.

InFlagranteDerelicto · 03/11/2020 17:25

Thanks everyone, feeling much better today. Got a supermarket delivery & they accidentally sent us an extra pack of frozen fruit, (not charged us for it) haha!

Congratulations to @TheDogsMother for getting into the dress. Little victories are definitely the way forward. Fitting into a new item, or an old one. Realising you haven't binged on crisps & ice cream in ages. Or whatever is your personal downfall.

I'm having cauliflower & broccoli cheese with pasta for tea. Light on the cheese, heavy on the veg. Fruit for after if I fancy it.

I might make some stewed apples & overnight oats for breakfast tomorrow, that sounds really nice. We've got some rather geriatric apples hanging about that I daren't send for DD's packed lunch. Blush

TheDogsMother · 03/11/2020 17:33

Thank you everyone !! I'm delighted we made it in time too. Back on the wagon from Thursday as I don't want the weight creeping up again (though suspect it has a bit already !)

SwimmingOnEggshells · 03/11/2020 22:04

Congratulations @TheDogsMother that's lovely to hear.

Good to hear you're doing better today @InFlagranteDerelicto

Not a great day yesterday for me, I ate so many Roses Blush

But today was ok, carb heavy though:
Really good bike session
Coffee
Toasted sandwich
Prawn pasta for dinner

No snacks so off I go to bed before I start raiding the kitchen!

I'd like to add my congratulations to @TheDogsMother. Week going okay for me. I did unsurprisingly let things slip a bit after losing weight last week but hope to maintain on Friday. Today the plan is (b) porridge with grated apple and cinnamon, (l) seeded bagel with smoked salmon and cream cheese, and (d) chickpea curry with small amount of rice and half a naan. Probably a bit carb-heavy but no snacks and no booze.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 04/11/2020 09:46

Well after our pledge to refocus, I'm having a really good week. No booze, lots of exercise, healthy meals but nothing too 'diet-y' or restrictive.

Yesterday I had cereal, homemade soup and rolls and fish tacos.

Today cereal, the rest of the soup and homemade dhal.

I weighed myself this morning and am 0.2lb below my lightest! 💪 I'm delighted that I've wiped out that gain from last week.

Also 1.1% off my body fat since last week. It's really motivated me to keep on it for the next few days and see a good result on Friday's weigh in.

Beroltheperil · 05/11/2020 21:05

@neverenoughchelseaboots well done! I am one day ok one day bad... not embraced the refocus as hoped. Just maintaining. Wtf is wrong with me??? Argh. I just want wine and chocolate. I think I'm feeling a bit down, missing family, worried about covid.
Sad
How can I claw this back??

SwimmingOnEggshells · 05/11/2020 22:56

I know @Beroltheperil, it's so hard to be consistent 100% of the time. I didn't exercise today and ate wry normal sized portions for breakfast, lunch and dinner. I'd be surprised if I lost anything tomorrow.

I think I'm staying up tonight to watch the US election, i don't want to wake up in the morning having missed any big news! Trouble is I'm starting to getting hungry...

alandaviesmrs · 06/11/2020 06:46

Just checking in this morning - last week's gain was definitely period related! Off again this week:

10 stone 10 on August 22
9 stone 12 on October 26
9 stone 10 on November 6th

I’ve been running 4/5 times a week (anywhere between 2 and 4.5 miles depending on how much time I have), and doing 30m yoga on the other days. Feeling much fitter and gradually getting faster on my runs.

I think my problem was definitely portion sizes. I’ve found that a lot of meals I can eat literally half what I was having before and not notice being any hungrier, eg having one scrambled egg and half a slice of toast for breakfast instead of two eggs and a whole slice, or having half a salmon fillet instead of a whole one for my evening meal. And the added bonus of leftovers to make lunch with the next day!

Have also cut out the evening snacks, and no alcohol (except a cheeky shandy/spritzer on a Friday night).

Hoping to be 9 stone by Christmas...

Keep up the good work everyone!

WhistlersandJugglers · 06/11/2020 08:22

I've stuck to the 16:8 properly all week, exercised and avoided the lure of the US election and been in bed early every night.
And after all that-still bloody 10st. Not even a lb off.
I think it's time to make a bit pot of soup and start having only soup and ryvita for lunch every day.
24 more days of lockdown so I'm refocusing my refocus again.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/11/2020 08:26

Wow @alandaviesmrs a stone down! You must be made up. I'm also hoping to be 9 stone by Christmas but I think it's going to get much harder once the build up starts with all the chocolates etc. I think I consume most of the bad stuff in the office when people are constantly bringing in mince pies and chocolates, so it might not be as bad this year.

@SwimmingOnEggshells I hope you didn't stay up all night for the election result! When will it ever come....?!

@Beroltheperil sorry you're feeling a bit down, are your family overseas? The whole lockdown thing is sort of stealthily difficult in a lot of ways too. As in day to day life is often fine, there's still lots of positives, but it sort of quietly chips away at you until you realise you're feeling pretty rubbish. That's how it is for me anyway, but my life hasn't really been impacted, so I periodically just start to feel a bit empty.

My good week did pay dividends at weigh in, but I think it was 50% resolve and 50% circumstantial - more opportunities to exercise, house mate making healthy meals on his nights to cook. I'm taking full credit for not having any wine this week though! Embarassingly I've not done all 4 weekdays -in years- since the start of lockdown.

Start 25th Sep - 9st 10.8lbs /28.7% body fat
23rd Oct - 9st 7.1lb /27.8% body fat
30th Oct - 9st 8.8lb / 28.3% body fat
Today - 9st 5.5lb / 27.3% body fat

neverenoughchelseaboots · 06/11/2020 08:31

@WhistlersandJugglers Hopefully it's a lag and you'll see results next week, good to see you're still motivated though.

I made a big batch of this soup and had it a few times this week, it's lovely. I usually avoid soup because it doesn't fill me up a feel like a proper meal but with the veg and beans in this I didn't even think to snack all afternoon.

alandaviesmrs · 06/11/2020 09:33

Thanks @neverenoughchelseaboots! I’m more kind of horrified that I was that heavy to start with, bloody lockdown... I was that weight at 9 months pregnant with my eldest!! Anyway, feeling much better now and hoping to join you on the 9st by Christmas! I am dairy free which helps me avoid the Christmas treats out and about, although I have to stop myself buying loads of things I can eat at home... Hope you have a good week!

SwimmingOnEggshells · 06/11/2020 10:31

Well done you losers! I'm jealous.
No change here. So pissed off with myself!

I stayed up until 4am watching the elections 😣 at least Georgia has gone blue now.

I bought inositol online the other day and waiting for it to arrive. It's a B vitamin and research has shown it to help insulin resistance. I took it to get pregnant and I lost weight around that time. I hope to god it works, i think it's an appetite suppressant (clutches at straws).

MrsAvocet · 06/11/2020 12:52

I'm static. Well 100g down but I've just had a cup of tea so probably put that back on now!
I don't mind actually. I've had a rubbish week, largely thanks to my vast apple donation from next door (but I have made some gorgeous stuffBlush) so I expected to have gained significantly. So I am happy enough considering. Need to get back on the wagon this week though.
Well done to all the losers, and don't get disheartened if you've not lost as much as you'd hoped this week.

Morningmaeve · 06/11/2020 13:40

I am static too - well .2 up - which I will take as it hasn't been my best effort this week. I aim to re-focus in the coming seven days and step away from the vino and bread! Really want to get under nine and half stone. For the record: 9 stone 7.8lb today.

Parbor · 07/11/2020 13:25

Hi can I join please? I don’t have a lot to lose...put on 18kg with my 4th child and haven’t lost the last 5/6. So it’s really not a lot but I was always tiny (very small frame) and now I have several rolls on my tummy, a roll around my bra strap and flabby arms. I’d just like my clothes to fit again really-live in leggings at the moment which I hate.

I went on MFP and was shocked that their calorie estimation for me to MAINTAIN was 1200, that’s nothing!
Today I’ve had
Water
Cup of tea x2
2 weetabix with oat milk
A satsuma
Coffee with oat milk
2 water biscuits
1 small slice of cheese
Bowl of homemade lentil soup
Green tea

And once I add on tonight’s dinner of Korean pork and pepper stew with broccoli and basmati rice I’m already slightly over. Depressing. I could understand if that was to lose weight but to remain as I am it just wouldn’t be sustainable!

Exercise wise I walk at least 2.5 miles a day (briskly) and do yoga most days (20-45 mins depending on how much time I have)

WhistlersandJugglers · 07/11/2020 16:50

I have a big pot of soup brewing and I'm going to cut out bread until I weigh in next Friday. Hopefully that might give me the boost to get under 10 stone.
I'm going to have either porridge or eggs and oak cakes for breakfast, soup for lunch and regular dinner but slightly smaller portion and more side salad. Cheat lunch on Wednesday to have something to look forward to.

MrsAvocet · 07/11/2020 17:44

Kicking myself now. I just caved in and ate my first bar of chocolate for ages. I've been out on my bike and "bonked" - a particularly hideous sensation that most cyclists will be familiar with when you have used up your energy reserves completely. A sugar fix is the only cure and I had failed to take anything sensible with me so kind of crawled into the nearest petrol station and grabbed a Dairy Milk.
On a more positive note, its the first time I put my winter cycling kit on since about February and it is way to big for me now, which is encouraging.

neverenoughchelseaboots · 07/11/2020 18:37

Welcome @Parbor hopefully you've found some people with similar goals. x

@MrsAvocet it sounds like you're giving yourself a hard time - if you've got the bonk you don't have much choice. Good on you for getting out!

After my excellent week I went berserk last night 😳. Trifle, a cheese sauce that had half a block of cheese in and stayed up to 1.30am watching The Bridge drinking wine and eating crisps. It was only one day so I'm not that concerned, but it was so out of character for me. Not the wine (that's very much my character) but I never eat crisps - I'm just not that into them And I'm always off to bed by 11. What happened?!

Parbor · 08/11/2020 06:55

Thanks for the welcome Smile. I’ve had a bit more of a read through now and am so impressed with the losses!
Mostly it’s just really nice to find a thread where people don’t scoff at the numbers and understand it’s possible to be big for you whilst still comparatively small.

I really struggle with every calorie counting because I was able to eat what I wanted and not worry well into my thirties but I’m seeing it around my middle now!

Beroltheperil · 08/11/2020 16:19

@neverenoughchelseaboots I'm overseas and my family are in the UK.

Welcome @Parbor, good luck with the calories. Yes we have pitiful numbers of calories don't we. I think it's important to try and do strength training to get your metabolism up if that's possible... And lots of moving around rather than sitting.

I'm ready to commence battle again tomorrow, but for this evening I'm looking forward to a couple of glasses of wine then an early night.

Beroltheperil · 08/11/2020 17:42

@neverenoughchelseaboots don't worry about going berserk....I think we all need to let off some steam! I've been doing it for the past 2 weeks!!
