@MushMonster I think that's a very good idea to learn to swim. I love swimming, but I didn't go for years because I was ashamed of how I looked in a swimsuit. One of the good things about getting older is that I no longer care, and I've also realised that most other people are too busy worrying about how they look to give me a second glance. Can you get someone to teach you at the moment, or will you have to wait until lessons start up post-Covid?

Grimmauldface · 31/08/2020 08:00

Thank you all for the warm welcome back. I love that this thread is 100% supportive with zero judgement.

@FatCatThinCat you're doing amazingly! I hope you have a good week and smash that 10kg target - you're so close.

Congratulations @MushMonster for already making your 1st target and @SansaClegane you were so close, just 0.2lb - next week for sure.

@notevenamum1 stick with it and you'll be in those jeans before you know it.

Good luck with the monthly weigh in today @morningtoncrescent62 although it doesn't sound like you have much to worry about after taking such a sensible approach to the month.

I think I really need to inject a healthy dose of realism and patience into my approach to weight loss or I am doomed to fail yet again. It's a long time since I was a fit, healthy 20 something without the stresses and responsibilities I have in my life now. I need to remember that and adjust my expectations accordingly!

Thank you all for posting your stories and progress, it's really inspiring. I'm going to make time to check in as often as I can to help me stay focused.

YeetYeet · 31/08/2020 09:34

Checking in as it's weigh day for me, -4.8lbs this week following 0lb last week. This seems to be the pattern now, maybe I should weigh fortnightly 🤔

Hope you have had good results @morningtoncrescent62 🤞

Welcome back @Grimmauldface 👋

Well done everyone losing, however slowly, or not gaining, (or only gaining 1lb on holiday 👏) we are getting ourselves there step by step 💪

notevenamum1 · 31/08/2020 10:51

So as predicted....weigh in and no weight loss despite being sooo good all week. I am on day 3 of period but surely excess water weight should be gone by now? Please someone stop me from being massively dishearten and throwing the towel in and self sabotaging by getting drunk ok biscuits Sad

notevenamum1 · 31/08/2020 10:51

Congrats to everyone who has done so well. I am too much of a misery guys to reply individually right now Sad

notevenamum1 · 31/08/2020 10:52

I really wanted to have lost a stone by the end of the month but that was contingent on losing 1lb a week so that’s out the window. I know that this is a slow game but man is it SLOW!

morningtoncrescent62 · 31/08/2020 12:00

Congratulations @YeetYeet - what a fantastic loss this week. @notevenamum1 that sounds very disheartening indeed. But please don't throw in the towel. Weight loss can be very unpredictable, and you may find you lose 2lb next week, keeping you on track in the long run. Our bodies are complicated things. If it continues, though, it would probably be a good idea to keep a diary of everything - and I mean everything - you consume each day, for a week. That includes milk in tea/coffee, oil used for cooking and so on. You may find you're taking on board more calories than you realise, and there might be some substitutions you could do. But I'd suggest giving it another week and see how it pans out. Meantime have some Flowers

I've smashed this month's target, so I'm very pleased with myself. I've lost 4lb, taking me to 12 stone 4. Most of all I'm chuffed that I got straight back on the wagon, no fuss, when I got back from holiday. This proves to me that I can do it. Over the past nearly 40 years I've let myself get derailed and disheartened if I've had a blow-out lasting more than a day or two, consoled myself with biscuits and ice cream and been unable to get back in control. I now know I can take a fortnight 'off' and come back to sensible, healthy eating. I'll try to remember that in future (I've no illusions that there will be future blips, I'm in my late 50s with a lifetime of unhealthy and addictive eating behind me). Target for end of September is 11 stone 10, after which the plan is to go more slowly through the darker, colder months when weight loss is more difficult.

fibeee · 31/08/2020 20:26

Just read through the comments below. Everyone is doing so well an inspiring me to keep ar it. Well
done on your losses. Thank

Had a non-scale victory yesterday. Tried on a pair of size 16 postpartum jeans that I was gifted in March. Until yesterday I wasn’t able to get them past my thighs and now they fit!

notevenamum1 · 01/09/2020 14:09

Thanks @morningtoncrescent62 you’ve encouraged me not to sack it in.

Congrats on having such a great month and fingers crossed that September will be just as fruitful for you!

notevenamum1 · 01/09/2020 14:10

Amazing NSV @fibeee!

fibeee · 01/09/2020 14:14

Wow just re-read my post. It’s barely in English 😂. Must have been half asleep when I wrote it. I’ll blame the baby!

morningtoncrescent62 · 02/09/2020 12:52

Great NSV, @fibeee - enjoy wearing your jeans!

notevenamum1 · 03/09/2020 23:54

Hi, I’m here! I’m in a huff as didn’t lose any weight despite being a top weight loss student all week. I did have my period though so sticking at it and hoping to see some results at next weeks weigh in

notevenamum1 · 03/09/2020 23:56

Dammit; that was for another thread. You all know my sad and boring story! I wonder why you can’t delete posts?

fibeee · 04/09/2020 12:15

That’s frustrating @notevenamum1. Hope the period bloat disappears soon and you start seeing results again.

-2lb for me this week. Thats half a stone off in a month. Haven’t been counting calories this week just trying to be mindful about what I’m eating and doing plenty of walking. BMI is under 31 now. Goal for the next couple of weeks is to get it under 30. That will be a massive personal achievement for me.

Total loss 7lb

notevenamum1 · 04/09/2020 12:20

Congrats @fibeee half a stone in a month is amazing!

morningtoncrescent62 · 05/09/2020 10:56

Well done, @fibeee - great going there. We're aiming at a similar milestone. My BMI at last weigh-in on Monday was 30.6, and if I hit my September target it'll be 29. Let's see if we can hit that significant milestone!

@Grimmauldface how are things?

fibeee · 05/09/2020 15:19

@morningtoncrescent62 it feels so significant that number doesn’t it. It will be a relief to say to myself “I am no longer obese”. Keep up your good work. You can do it!

EsmeShelby · 05/09/2020 17:06

Same weight. Sigh. I know I need to do more exercise. Still, we persist.

FatCatThinCat · 05/09/2020 17:14

Did all of you lovely ladies know that if you use digital scales you have to recalibrate them before weighing yourself? If you don't the weight they tell you may well be wrong.

I've only just found this out when I tried to weigh the cat and I notice that the weight changed each time I stuck him on them. Mine were giving weights 2 or 3 kilos either side of the correct weight.

So tomorrow morning will be interesting as now I have no idea what I actually weigh. Although I expect it's more than the cat.

FatCatThinCat · 05/09/2020 17:15

Sorry, that should say you need to recalibrate if you move them before using them.

Grimmauldface · 06/09/2020 08:35

Hello all and thank you @morningtoncrescent62 just having you ask how it's going prompted me to bite the bullet and get back on the scales this morning. I had been sat here drinking my coffee and coming up with a million excuses as to why I'm not in control and feeling like I'm not worth making an effort for, when I saw your message.
So the bad news is I've gained 2lb over the past however many weeks it's been but the good news is I've faced it before it got worse.
I came down with a cold this week (cue excuse number one) but am over the worst of that now so hope to get a bit more active again.
My aim today is to get myself organised and plan the week so I don't find myself stood in front of the fridge eating mindlessly or shopping hungry on my way home from work. I'm hoping the return of the school runs and more hours spent actually at work instead of WFH will give my day more structure and reduce the temptation to snack too.

Well done of passing the bmi 30 milestone @fibeee and @morningtoncrescent62 that's fantastic

I known it's disheartening when the scales don't move @EsmeShelby but I hope you have a good week and see the results at your next weigh in.

How was your weigh in @FatCatThinCat? Did calibrating your scales make much difference?

FatCatThinCat · 06/09/2020 09:17

129.1 kg for me. That's a 1.2 kg loss and I've passed my first 10 kg target. 20 kg here's I come!

EsmeShelby · 06/09/2020 13:10

Thanks Grimmauld, I have actually scraped half a pound off today, so at least I am making progress again.

notevenamum1 · 06/09/2020 13:21

@Grimmauldface well done for getting back on it. Damage limitation is 75% of the battle I think and I’m sure you’ll lose that 2lbs in no time. Also get well soon!
