I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

Evening All!

@unstableunicorn oh no, that’s not a good way to lose your appetite! I hope you feel better soon!

@Murrfect I don’t think my scales work, so I’m just ignoring them and going by what my clothes feel like.

@sevendevils hi, welcome to the thread! I hate exercise use too, but love surfing and walking as well as tennis. So that’s the only exercise I do. And only because I enjoy it!

We (DH and I, plus the dogs) like to walk a lot of the South West Coast Path during the spring/summer months, so we are going to start doing that now that things are getting back to normal here.

So, it’s Friday night ladies! What are you up to?

We are just going to put Netflix on and watch some Criminal Minds. With no junk food or wine...ah, I’m craving some wine!

@sevendevils Monday morning is our weigh in day.

OP posts:
sevendevils · 26/06/2020 18:06

Thanks @Bookaholic73, I will weigh in on Monday. I don't expect much change as I only started today but I think a joint weigh in is a good plan.

SavageBeauty73 · 26/06/2020 18:53

Monday is a great weigh in as it'll keep me focused. Last time I tried it was Thursday so I spent the weekend eating and drinking.

KarrieKay · 26/06/2020 18:59

@HotelRoomforOne I’m only on day 5 so let’s see how the weekend goes. I want to break the automatic wine as a response to stress reaction!

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/06/2020 20:50

Less good day today started with toast and marmalade, but only one bit & paid attention & really enjoyed it. And I’ve just finished off with an ice cream. So certainly not a low calorie day today, will have to do better tomorrow.

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/06/2020 20:51

Incidentally I notice @Bookaholic73 has studiously ignored the being of a bad influence by talking of salted pretzel chocolate which I then had to buy Wink

Bookaholic73 · 26/06/2020 21:21

Ha..I deny all responsibility Wink

Still desperate for wine..but resisting so far.

Well I’ve put down the wine and the Thai takeaway, and committed to a long early beach walk. I’m v lucky to live next to the SW coast path too @Bookaholic73 :)

Food is so bonding, especially sharing a meal with a hungry teenager. But I really now need to get back on the wagon.

Here’s to tomorrow

DontLookTwice · 26/06/2020 21:45

I’ve fallen off the wagon tonight. A week of logging on MFP and losing nothing has made me feel quite miserable. I had a bowl of Fruit and Fibre.. could have been worse, but I feel such a failure!

Bookaholic73 · 26/06/2020 21:47

@DontLookTwice a bowl of fruit and fibre isn’t a failure! A 400g bar of jelly popping candy is a failure!

OP posts:
Murrfect · 26/06/2020 21:56

@DontLookTwice no it’s not a failure just get back on the wagon you’ll get there

Coldhandscoldheart · 27/06/2020 06:43

Currently arguing ‘want’ with ‘should’

Want to get some toast, maybe a sausage, boiled egg.
Should hold off til lunchtime & just grab another coffee.
Am going to have a think about what to do today and perhaps do something constructive to kill the urge.

DontLookTwice · 27/06/2020 08:02

I’ve put on a pound after a week of logging everything and walking every day for over an hour. Obviously MFP is not working for me.

sevendevils · 27/06/2020 08:10

@DontLookTwice oh god that's frustrating for you. Just wondering if you keep your scales in the same place. I had my scales repaired a few years ago and was told that for them to be accurate, they must be kept on a hard surface and not moved at all.

Zeroenergy · 27/06/2020 08:23

I need to join! I have no strength after my baby and I just feel lethargic all the time due to my sleep deprivation and subsequent cravings for crap foods the next day.
Something has got to give and I’ll join in for sure!

KarrieKay · 27/06/2020 08:24

@DontLookTwice don’t be disheartened- I fluctuate at least that much hormonally - where are you in your cycle?
Are you feeling better for eating less and exercising more?

DontLookTwice · 27/06/2020 08:26

I’m post menopausal so that’s not it. I think I’m eating too many carbs. I always walk pretty regularly but have definitely been eating less. It’s fitting! Thanks for the encouragement though..

DontLookTwice · 27/06/2020 08:26

Gutting not fitting! No I feel worse actually. Maybe because I’ve been eating calorie counted ready meals.

Cavagirl · 27/06/2020 09:15

Hey @dontlooktwice, if eating calorie restricted ready meals is a new thing this week, it could be that - they tend to contain a lot of salt for the flavour, which will lead you to hanging onto water. I bet you'll see the pounds fall off next week if you watch your salt intake! In reality you could easily have lost some fat this week but replaced the weight with water, so don't feel sad. Bloody water retention!

DontLookTwice · 27/06/2020 09:17

Thanks. I think it may be salt. I’ve felt very bloated all week!

sevendevils · 27/06/2020 09:18

@Cavagirl I was wondering about the salt in ready meals too. Salt definitely makes you cling onto water.

shinynewapple2020 · 27/06/2020 12:12

@Plancina

I’m making a salad with broad beans, courgettes, wholewheat couscous, halloumi and mint for dinner. Also having some Rosé in the garden ahem.
That sounds so nice 🙂
Bookaholic73 · 27/06/2020 12:29

Morning!

I’m a tad hungover this morning. Oops Blush
Ah well, I’m starting properly from Monday when I’ve weighed myself.
