I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

@DontLookTwice I imagine with the hot weather this week you'll have got water retention and probably done less exercise too . Keep going - it often takes a few days for weight loss to show Smile
@Bookaholic73 it's afternoon now! 😂😂😂
Gosh, I had a few days that were massively busy at work and I've got 10 pages to catch up on. An old book 'Neris and India's Idiot Proof Diet' has arrived ordered it off used book son Amazon as I used it in my 30s and lose a lot of weight and then kept it off. What I've found is the more weight I lose, the more energy I have, the more weight I lose but I need to lose a stone to get me going. I'm 12 1/2 stone this morning -so going downwards. But I need to get to 9 stone before I can run without pain etc.

Does anyone have a recommendation for a free yoga thing on line? I do find yoga help enormously with stress but haven't done it for two years which is silly as I spent a fortune on lovely mats and blankets etc -Doh!

I've got a fridge packed full of veg and then I've just jumped into eating nuts! So nuts!!

I really want to get from a size 14 / 16 down so I can wear all my beautiful clothes again.

But hi everyone -and hope your day isn't too rainy like it is here.

Purplequalitystreet · 27/06/2020 20:06

Today started quite badly. DS decided that 5am was time to get up and by 10am I'd eaten cereal and two chocolate rice cakes. I managed to rein myself in this afternoon, although I'm sitting with a glass of wine (my only one this week to be fair!). I think I'm only 50-100 calories over, so very pleased with that!

Coldhandscoldheart · 28/06/2020 06:34

@SummerDayWinterEvenings I like Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube, she does lots of different ones, I commonly just todo the 5 or ten minute ones and even that I find helps loosen me up. Should probably get up and do some yoga!

I’ve pulled out my weighted hula hoop & am increasing my times with that, in the hope it may give me a waist where there has never been one before.

Bookaholic73 · 28/06/2020 08:02

@SummerDayWinterEvenings I also recommend Yoga with Adrienne on YouTube. She has a free 30 day practice which I plan on doing at some point!

I started 16:8, a few weeks ago and have moved to 18:6, first week was really hard, but not seems simpler, I also seem to be wanting the right foods now eg I look forward to my salads. Also started yoga and walking daily, feel like I have more energy. Not weighed myself but down a dress size.

Bookaholic73 · 28/06/2020 08:35

@MotorwayDiva well done, that’s great!

I fell asleep at 8.30pm last night, ate really healthy all day and didn’t snack at all. I’m feeling so good this morning!
I have more energy and don’t have an upset stomach this morning (I normally wake up with an upset stomach h after drinking wine and eating junk food the night before).

DH and I had a really good chat yesterday. We both want to lose weight and get healthier, but yesterday was the first time we’ve had a really good chat about it.
I think he will be quite supportive, which helps a lot.

We are off out walking for a few hours with the dogs today. Going to walk along the river, across the beach and over the cliffs a little. Should be an hour or so.

Having veggies, toast, guacamole and egg for breakfast. That incorporates vitamins and minerals, fibre, carbs, fat and protein. And it’ll keep me full for a long time!

We are going to take some fruit to eat in the car on the way back from our walk, so that we don’t buy fish and chips.

@Bookaholic73 you sound like you’re doing great and wherever you live sounds amazing, I sadly lost my dog in may so the walking I did with him has stopped as walking without him just feels odd (12 years of dog walking you get used to having your friend to chat to so feels weird). I get the sore tummies too from rich food/alcohol so I’m hoping this will help.

Can’t believe 10 pages in but I think I need to be able to chat about this with other people doing the same thing) helps when you see people losing too and motivating each other also inspiration for meals as in hopeless at thinking of anything.

However I weighed myself today (14stone 6 and I’m disgusted with myself. I am greedy but I also get hypo symptoms if I don’t eat so I need to balance What I eat so I’m not eating too much but also not getting hypo as then I just hoover up whatever I can find until the shaking sweaty period is over, not fun!!
Done a 3 day meal plan and as kids are in bed I can’t go for a walk but boyfriend brought over his treadmill so may give that a go - I can chat to the cat instead Grin
Pouring with rain too here so motivation to go outside isn’t there. Anyway rambling on hope you all have a good day

Coldhandscoldheart · 28/06/2020 14:04

Today less good as so far it’s involved a sausage roll, pringles and a jam donut. Only slightly offset by broccoli soup (with cheese).
Not optimistic about tomorrow’s weigh in.

Bookaholic73 · 28/06/2020 15:55

@Kaykay066 thank you. I just have to remember how good I feel!
Sorry to hear about your dog. They certainly are incentives to get out and walk. I didn’t walk half as much before I had them.
I have hypoglycaemia so need to eat super regularly and take (heathy) snacks with me wherever I go. It can be a pain in the bum, but necessary to keep me well.

I weighed this morning too, but secretly hoping the scales were wrong. Denial, not just a river in Egypt.

One thing I’ve noticed today is that I feel STARVING! I had lunch at 1.45 and I’m just about to eat porridge!

I’ve told myself that I’m not limiting how much I’m eating, if I’m hungry then I can eat. BUT I’m limiting WHAT I eat. I can’t eat/drink

Alcohol
Sweets
Chocolate
Fizzy drinks.

Thanks for the heads up about Adrienne -I'll have a look -I assume it's youtube.

Have had a lovely veggie stir fry and rice and that will do me for today. I'm feeling positive as it looks like 4 weeks in France this summer IF it is safe -in our home there is looking like a real possibility. Going straight from here to family home there -less risk etc.

Has anyone got any ideas about team sports you can do with a family? I'm thinking Cricket - younger ones are amazing at throwing and running - older ones are more considered-but I will have to see what happens and what nights it is on. Lock down permitted.

Kay -I'm sorry about your dog. Have you thought about "Borrow my doggie"- a friend of mine has two boys and uses this app regularly -today they are out all day on a day walk. Likewise there is a lady here with a broken leg and can't walk her dog and she asked on FB and a lady is walking her. Might that we an option? So different walking with a pup.

SummerDayWinterEvenings · 28/06/2020 18:13

Doh just re read Yes Adrienne is Youtube is right there in your posts -off to have a look thanks

Bookaholic73 · 28/06/2020 20:10

Craving some chocolate and wine this evening. Sat here with hot choc instead.

I am imagining how good I’ll feel tomorrow morning when I haven’t binged in junk food tonight.

@SummerDayWinterEvenings Rounders? Or could you organise a wide game?
4weeks sounds amazing.

Coldhandscoldheart · 29/06/2020 08:32

I’ll kick off Monday weigh in
81kg = 179lbs = 12st 11lb ish

SierraOscar · 29/06/2020 08:54

Morning all! Today really is the first day of the rest of my life. All junk food is banished from my house and I have a meal plan to follow.

Thank you to the poster who suggested the borrow my doggie app. I am going to look at that, it would be lovely to have a four legged pal to help get fit!

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 29/06/2020 08:58

Hope everyone had a lovely weekend?!
Just did my Monday morning weigh in. I've lost 3lbs this week. 🙌

Purplequalitystreet · 29/06/2020 09:31

Morning!
Starting weight 11st 5lbs
Weight this morning 11st 1.5lbs
Quite happy with that!

Chaotic45 · 29/06/2020 10:34

Hello. My Monday morning weigh in was 12 stone 11.5lb.

I was 12 stone 13.2lb on Thursday but it's very early days and I've only been going a few days so am not reading too much into it yet.

I'm using MFP to log calories, it tells me I'm on the cusp of obese and need to limit calories to 1300 to loose 1.5lb a week. 1300 seems so low!!

Good luck to everyone this week .

Plancina · 29/06/2020 10:41

Monday weigh in 66.5kg, BMI 27. Took some progress pics today, they were not a good sight. Am doing fast 800 for two weeks to try and shift some weight quickly - it’s quite severe at only 800 cals a day but has medical science behind it, apparently most people lose 4kg in two weeks. Then you can choose whether to go on for another two weeks or move to 5:2 where you eat 800 cals on two days a week and normally the rest of the time.

SierraOscar · 29/06/2020 13:06

I'm going to ask DH to take some progress pictures for me. I'm not100% sure how much I weigh as I don't have any scales at home.

I failed slightly this morning by falling asleep after dropping DD to nursery, I missed breakfast. I have made a healthy lunch and have discovered that roast cauliflower is delicious but I do not like pomegranate seeds.

Bookaholic73 · 29/06/2020 15:45

Hi guys.

Weighed in today at 13st 3lbs.
Mortified. But it’s the start of my journey.

I did so well last night, didn’t give into the cravings at all.
Also done well today, and feeling SO HUNGRY all the time!
Eating every 2 hours, but all healthy. It’ll be interesting to see what effect it has on the scales next week.

Breakfast was fruit
Lunch was a turkey baguette
Dinner will be spaghetti bolognaise.

Going out for a walk this evening, that’ll be my daily exercise.

I’ve never tried toast cauliflower before. Do you use a specific recipe?
OP posts:
SierraOscar · 29/06/2020 23:19

@Bookaholic73 I used the joes wicks recipe. But essentially put the oven on to 200° then drizzle the diced up cauliflower with oil and throw on spices your choices. Bake for 25 mins.

I need to develop a dislike of sweet things. I now dislike costa coffee after not having it for 3 months due to covid. I just need the will power to give up chocolate, biscuits and cake for 3 months.
