I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

@Purplequalitystreet I'm almost exactly the same size so I'm in for buddying up!

Purplequalitystreet · 25/06/2020 14:40

@karriekay fantastic. We can do this! I've made the excuse of "baby weight" for too long. Not sure it counts as baby weight when you're heavier than you were just after birth!

Davodia · 25/06/2020 16:16

I’ve been trying to lose weight for years but breastfeeding made me too hungry. I would literally get the shakes if I didn’t eat. Now I’ve finally stopped breastfeeding and my appetite has reduced, I’m able to stick to a diet without feeling ill. I have nearly 3st to lose...

Plancina · 25/06/2020 16:25

I’m making a salad with broad beans, courgettes, wholewheat couscous, halloumi and mint for dinner. Also having some Rosé in the garden ahem.

Coldhandscoldheart · 25/06/2020 17:50

Was fucking ravenous this morning so succumbed to lasagne for lunch. Also had a burger for tea, but only handful of chips & no bun.

Am ignoring the fact that @Bookaholic73 made me buy a bat of salted pretzel chocolate in the middle of my fruit & veg.

buckeejit · 25/06/2020 18:57

Well today I faffed about writing a complaint to the useless school & getting myself wound up, had a grapefruit for breakfast & a fibre one bar, then cuppa at friends with another fibre bar. Was late for delivering meals for friends charity so grabbed a thick slice of bread & butter & packet of crisps for lunch. I was boiling by the time I got home so had a mini twister lolly.

Just finished leftover butter chicken & veg & spuds for tea. I've managed to resist wine in the garden in the sun......so far

Purplequalitystreet · 25/06/2020 19:44

I've been quite good today. Crunchy nut cornflakes and banana for breakfast, a salmon fillet and veg for lunch and having chilli crab linguine for tea (If this baby ever goes to sleep!). I also had a low fat salted caramel ice lolly for 68 calories from Co-op. Was bloody lovely! That comes to just over 1200 calories. Happy with that!

SierraOscar · 25/06/2020 22:41

Today has been an off day for me. It's too hot!

Yesterday, I was on it. I went for a power walk to get my steps in, it was so hot that my sandals gave me a massive blister on the bottom of my foot and I got Chubb rub.

Determined to never get Chubb rub again do the weight needs to come off. I've done well food wise, I had two Tim tams today, a treat for getting my personal statement written and the rest of my food intake was on track.

I curse my Australian cousin for sending me Tim tams.

Does anyone have any quick relief/ healing suggestions for the blister and Chubb rub?

Coldhandscoldheart · 25/06/2020 22:41

Oh. Also I had a lolly and then I also had an ice cream this evening. Whoops. It’s far too hot tho.

Coldhandscoldheart · 25/06/2020 22:43

@SierraOscar get a blister plaster on as soon as you’re up for the day tomorrow.
Dunno about the rub. Sudocrem? I put germolene on almost everything. Prob worth doing overnight. Then shorts tomorrow.

Thank you! I'll see what I have in the bathroom cabinets, maybe nappy cream?

I currently don't own any shorts because I am too ashamed of how I look. Next summer will be different though!

Because of the heat I am close to achieving the recommended 3 litres of water suggested by my Joe Wicks Body Plan. Wether I'll be this smug after my many trips to the loo in the night is a different story.

BeKindOrBeQuiet · 25/06/2020 23:07

What's a Tim tam? And a Chubb rub?

Thank you for this thread, sign me up!

I am 38.
Heavier than I have ever been.
Used to be 55kg (after daughter number one) Only 5ft4.
Now have three children under 7. Baby is one year old. Multiple night time waking.
Breastfeeding on demand.
Feel like I am hanging on by a thread most of the time.
No family support, no help with childcare. No time to consider myself.
Would like to go from 71kg down to 59kg.
Now just got to figure out a way.

I can't beleive a vegan who is breastfeeding and now not drinking alcohol can gain so much weight! Doesn't seem right on paperConfused

My portions are.likely too big. I struggle with 16:8 because I have to eat when I get the chance, and this is unpredictable!
So depressed by my weight and general unfit condition.. Feel and look so far gone. Like O.P .says- I don't recognise myself.

Good luck everyone. Very interested in your tips. How do you lose weight when you feel like you're in survival mode all the time?

SierraOscar · 25/06/2020 23:42

@BeKindOrBeQuiet

What's a Tim tam? And a Chubb rub?
A Tim tam is an Australian chocolate bar, the closet U.K. equivalent is a penguin.

Chubb rub is where your things rub together, in the heat and leave you sore.

HotelRoomforOne · 25/06/2020 23:43

A TimTam is an Australian chocolate sandwich biscuit, like a penguin bar, but more deluxe! Densely calorific and terrific.

Chub rub is when your thighs rub together as you walk, causing chafing. Worse in hot weather because of increased sweat!

I also struggle with portion control, my husband is over a foot taller than me and tend to feed myself what I feed him. We eat lots of good home cooked food, but I eat too much.

Could I please jump in too.
I lost 1.5 stones last year and at Christmas decided to eat exactly what I wanted and continued doing that until now.Since lockdown coupled with knowing our holiday has been cancelled I havecontinued to eat everything. I have now gained back the 1.5 stones. The weight has gone on all over. Even my regular jeans are a tight squeeze now and leave me with red marks all over my stomach. My summer clothes don't fit either.

DontLookTwice · 26/06/2020 06:09

I have been doing MFP for nearly a week and weighing every day which I know is stupid. I haven't lost anything, in fact gained very slightly. I am so de motivated today. Anyone else had this? I have been feeling very bloated first thing in the morning and in the evening so seem to be retaining water. In the past , if i don't lose at least 2 pounds in week one I give up. Please motivate me!!

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/06/2020 07:11

@SierraOscar have you tried using a side plate instead of a dinner plate? Or try to find a dinner plate from the 70s - they were much smaller!

@Dontlooktwice don’t give up! Stick about someone will have some ideas. How many calories are you taking on?

Galwaygirl · 26/06/2020 07:18

May I also join?
I can be so good during the day, but in the evenings I can easily consume 500 cal eating rubbish for no reason, can't seem to stop.
Have to have some treats in the house as dh loves a treat and is disciplined
Any tips on how to stop eating for no reason can you post!Smile

KarrieKay · 26/06/2020 07:33

@Purplequalitystreet I can't call it baby weight when my baby is nearly 7 Grin

@Galwaygirl I'm so fed up by the evenings I've been doing the same plus wine. I've tried to arrange to do evening exercise as that distracts me. I've also got DH onboard so he doesn't offer me food as a treat (god I sound like a puppy)
I found logging on MFP really made me realise how much drinking and snacking were adding about another 3rd to my daily calories. I'm on day 6 of 30 days alcohol free to try and break the lockdown wine habit.

HotelRoomforOne · 26/06/2020 07:59

Davodia, I am in the same boat as you, with roughly the same amount to lose. I'd love to know if your weight comes off fast or slow now that you have weaned your baby. I'll be gradually weaning my baby over the next six months. I really hope to shift all The weight. The breastfeeding hunger is not something I can ignore either, it doesn't go away, just intensifies!

Chaotic45 · 26/06/2020 08:05

I'm in the same boat. I'm steeling myself to get on the scales, but given that barely any of my clothes fit I think I've put on 2 stone and am probably approaching the obese category.

I'd love to fast but I have an active job starting at 9am and think I'd flake out by 12 if I hadn't eaten. Then DH comes home about 6.30 and that family time eating together about 7.30-8 is the only time we all sit together. Oh dear I'm making excuses already!

So I've downloaded MFP and I am going to start by recording everything that I eat and using it to help me work out how many calories I should eat to loose weight.

Coldhandscoldheart · 26/06/2020 08:13

81.4 pre weekend.
