I don’t even recognise myself

In the past year (since getting married) I’ve gained about 3 stone.
I know exactly why, we went from being quite active to sitting in front of the TV most evenings and weekends, eating shit (chocolate etc).

We went out to a friends post wedding garden party this weekend (Social distanced) and when I looked at photos on Facebook I was MORTIFIED.

I know I’ve gained weight, but how did I not know I looked like that??
I didn’t even recognise myself!

So, today is Day 1 of ‘Bookaholic Gets Buff’ and I’m looking for support, advice, fellow ‘Buffers’ who would like to join in etc

I am quite active, although you wouldn’t believe it by looking at me. So it’s mainly diet I need to improve.

I’m 13st and a size 18 Blush
I’m aiming for 10st.

I do most days @BeKindOrBeQuiet because I'm impatient 🤣

Just been for a walk/run for 50 mins and am making a low carb frittata for breakfast.

Spring onions
Grated courgettes
Fried in a little olive oil
With egg n feta.

Gorgeous morning isn't it, well done for getting out so early! @SmiledWithTheRisingSun

I'm sat in the garden deciding on my day. Dc want to go to the beach again (went yesterday) so prob go there this morning. It's a decent walk down and back so can get my daily steps in there. Not setting up camp as I've got a lovely smear test at lunch time 😬and they're off to their dads.

I'm fasting til 12 and your breakfast sounds lovely! I'm already so hungry

Good luck today everyone!

Cavagirl · 24/06/2020 08:54

@BeKindOrBeQuiet yes!! I found this was key to losing the weight the first time around, and I'm doing it again this time.
Like you say it makes you accountable but also there's not the dread of a weekly weigh in. If you know you've been a bit naughty the day before realistically it can't ever be that bad, it's pretty impossible imo to put on more than 2-3lbs overnight after cheating (& that will mostly be water) and then it gives you a kick up the butt for the following day.
The downside is you don't have the buzz of seeing the big numbers fall off like you do weighing weekly. To keep my motivation I find digital scales with decimal point lbs helpful so even though you're doing it daily you can still see a loss.
I even bought mini travel scales to take away with me so I could weigh myself when away!!! Knowledge is power!!! Smile

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/06/2020 08:56

Whoops sorry to make you hungry @BeKindOrBeQuiet - was just feeling pleased with myself for not eating bread 🙈 baby steps!

Are you doing 5:2?

BeKindOrBeQuiet · 24/06/2020 09:02

@SmiledWithTheRisingSun I'm not doing 5:2. Have thought about it. May still do it, not sure. Doing 16:8 and keeping calories to 1200 or below (hopefully). I have to say last night I was full and didn't really feel like snacking but I was busy until nearly 10pm. I think the key for me is to keep busy in the evenings

Really hungry this morning though

SmiledWithTheRisingSun · 24/06/2020 09:04

I've been looking in the low carb recipe section. I've got rid if the booze but was still gaining weight due to diet & a desk based job. So this week I'm trying to move around more & eat way healthier. I don't think I can do fasting again yet as I feel my sobriety is still in the early stages & am living it so don't want to make myself feel deprived with food too!

clairey111 · 24/06/2020 09:15

I'm with you.
5'2'' and size 18. Never in my life did I think I'd be over. 12-14!

I'm joining too! Please

I have a lot of intolerances so find it impossible to structure a healthy diet and eat enough veg to fill me without packing in some form of carbs ☹️.

PurpleDaisies · 24/06/2020 09:19

I have read weighing yourself daily should be done as it makes you accountable for your actions.
No-for me it just meant I got absolutely obsessed with the number on the scales and despondent when it wasn’t going down every day. Weighing once a week and measuring with a tape worked for me. When I got close to my goal, I lost inches but not weight.

Bookaholic73 · 24/06/2020 09:35

Good morning everyone!
How are you all doing?

I resisted the evening munchies yesterday, as we didn’t get back from surfing until almost 10pm. But we did have chips on the beach. Oops!

Had a smoothie for breakfast as it’s SO HOT here today.
Lunch will probably a ham salad baguette or wrap.
Dinner is chicken, broccoli and salad.

Only a quick walk this evening for exercise, as I can’t walk the dogs too long in this heat.

How does everyone feel about having a weekly weigh in?
I normally weigh every Monday morning, as it helps keep me on track at the weekends, knowing that I’ll have to face the music on Monday morning!

Mojitomogul · 24/06/2020 10:30

Definitely up for a weekly weigh in!! Feeling lovely after my early dog walk, ended up by the river and was so relaxing to see him splashing about. Had a coffee now, and going to do a yoga session. Need some food inspo for dinner- thinking new potatoes, salmon and green beans

TimeWastingButFun · 24/06/2020 11:35

@KarrieKay yep, it is definitely harder to lose it over 40. I used to be able to drop a dress size whenever I wanted to, long gone those days! I'm trying to do more exercise and another problem is that since hitting 40 I seem to get hot and sweaty more so this weather is wonderful but a nightmare for running or anything!

KarrieKay · 24/06/2020 11:37

OMFG i weighed myself and I'm now 11st 7. I was 11 before lockdown. I'm almost obese for my height. So i'm in for a weekly weigh in now. Apparently it is easier to lose if you have more to lose and realistically I have 2 stone which I want to shift by the end of the year. This is the only place I've ever confessed what I actually weigh.

TimeWastingButFun · 24/06/2020 11:37

Has anyone found just giving up bread alone help? I have dropped the toast for breakfast and when I make a burger I leave out the bun, that sort of thing. I suppose I'm trying to find ways to keep my evening G&T and my sanity while the -little buggers- darling kids are home.

Bookaholic73 · 24/06/2020 13:14

Great that some of you are up for the weekly weigh in idea.

I’ve definitely noticed it’s harder to lose weight now I’m 40!

@Mojitomogul that walk sounds lovely! I love it when I can walk the dogs offlead on the beach, they love splashing about.

@TimeWastingButFun I seem to get much hotter and more sweaty as well. I hate it! I hope it disappears once I’ve lost a few stones.

@KarrieKay don’t worry, we all have to start somewhere! I’m 13st now, the heaviest I’ve ever been. It’s embarrassing!

@TimeWastingButFun I’m planning on quitting the bread too. Bread instantly bloats me, it’s awful. But I adore baguettes, so it’s been difficult. I 100% want to though.

Def up for a weekly weigh in 🙌👍

Coldhandscoldheart · 24/06/2020 14:07

Haven’t caught up yet, just want to post 82.1 kg from this morning.

EggsRoyale · 24/06/2020 14:11

Definitely up for a weekly weight in. I also weight Monday morning With the intention of it helping to control weekend blowoutsGrin

ellabella18 · 24/06/2020 14:33

Hi everyone,

Can I join please? I'm only 5ft 2" but 11st, I need to lose the three stone I've put on since having my daughter two years ago. I'm verging I'm obese and feel disgusting, I'm also starting to worry about my health and what it would mean for me if I were to catch COVID19Sad

seagarden · 24/06/2020 15:47

I weigh daily first thing in the morning but always after a cup of tea in bed.
Can't budge off horizontal til I've had that.
Today 71.5kg before my 5k run (yesterday was 71.2kg so I was not happy).
Weighed myself again after my run and it registered 71.1kg which is far more acceptable and put me in a better mood.
Aiming for 64kg although was 62kg six months ago.
Have just shifted 6 cubic metres of firewood and rewarded myself with a beer Smile

BeKindOrBeQuiet · 24/06/2020 17:29

I'm happy for a weigh in. Monday's? Currently 82.1kg 🙈

Done 13k steps today and had 600 calories so far so doing ok. Going to have a big hot chicken salad for tea.

Craving a glass of wine in the garden though I have to say. I can't just have one though, once the bottles open I drink the lot

So trying to avoid

How's your day been?

WannabeJolie · 24/06/2020 17:52

I feel like I’ve sunk an entire ocean in water today. I did have a very small bowl of crisps at lunch but I didn’t immediately go to the cupboard and ram junk down my neck thinking I’d failed. I have a very good food v bad food. All my thoughts around food aren’t brilliant.

BeKindOrBeQuiet · 24/06/2020 18:07

@WannabeJolie it's fantastic you've drank so much water and not given in to wanting to eat a load of shite. You can't cut out all bad foods completely it'd be awful. I say well done 👍

Murrfect · 24/06/2020 19:19
