Hello!

I have gained a shocking amount of weight and absolutely need to regain control of myself.

I do not need another drop-some-lbs-quickly-to-look-lovely-in-my-new-frock-diet. I think it is more serious than that for me now and I need to completely transform my relationship with food, as it has obviously become unhealthy.

I have come crawling back to dieting, (and to MN), to hopefully find some weight loss buddies.

I am planning to do the "No S Diet". The rules are:

  1. No sweet treats
  2. No second helpings
  3. No snacking between meals

Except on "S" days; Saturdays, Sundays and Special Days, (birthdays, Christmas etc).

On "S" days, the theory is that you stick to your three, square meals and also have a special treat or two over the weekend. It isn't that you can then eat a whole tub of ice cream every weekend or anything.

It is meant to be a lifelong plan, (aren't they all?), not a quick fix. So I am not expecting rapid weight loss. I honestly just need to stop gaining at such an alarming rate. Even if I stay as fat as I am, (and I am quite fat), I could live with it, but the rapid weight gain has scared me tbh! I have gained approximately two stone in less than a year SadBlushConfused. Two years ago, I had a normal BMI and I'd just had a baby. Now, I am on the cusp of obese.

I am circa 14 stone, (a few lbs under), and need to be circa 11 and a half stone. At this point, I'd settle for anything under 13! I am 36.

Would love some company Smile.

Hey op I'm up for joining. I started my better eating plan straight after xmas and lost 18lbs before lockdown. I then lost motivation and put on 7lbs. Back on it this week.

LadyPrigsbottom · 19/06/2020 21:42

Welcome @Onthebrink67, @butidoloveyou & @radioband Smile.

Well, I've finished today, doing what I planned to, so that's good. I feel fine. Drank rather a lot of tea today though... some with sugar, which is technically allowed, but probably not ideal. But even a bucket of sweet tea would probably be better than my daily 4pm snack attack, which I did avoid today. So I'm calling it a win!

Sorry, welcome @BurtsBeesKnees too SmileFlowers! Didn't look in the second page there.

Well day 1 for me today. I intend to drink at least 2ltrs of water, chocolate is my downfall, I'm determined not to have any today. I'm toying with the idea of a run/jog. Good luck everyone

LadyPrigsbottom · 20/06/2020 09:21

Good luck @radioband and everyone else!

My plan for today is to stick to my three meals, plus a treat. Need to remember that this does not mean eating the entire contents of my fridge!

As tomorrow is Father's Day, DD and I are planning to bake a cake, so I'll probably have a piece of that tomorrow. Today I'm having a cookie with my Brew.

Hope everyone has a nice weekend planned! @Lockdownseperation, I hope you got some sleep BrewFlowers.

Hi guys, can I join as well?
I'm furloughed from work and have been eating a ridiculous diet recently. I'm up to 10s8lb and I'm very short so this is very noticeable on me.
No clothes with waistbands fit comfortably and I hope that I'll eventually be back to wearing office clothes again.
No S and 16:8 sounds like a good plan. I have 3 teens in the house eating constantly so I know I wouldn't stick to a very restrictive diet atm.

LadyPrigsbottom · 20/06/2020 10:29

Of course! Welcome @WhistlersandJugglers Smile.

I've definitely heard of people combining No S type thing with 16:8. Makes sense, so you don't graze too much through the eight hour eating window. Also, you probably only have time for three proper meals and no more!

OP posts:
WhistlersandJugglers · 20/06/2020 10:44

Before lockdown I would have something like a scone or muffin when I got to work, then soup or leftovers for lunch, then normal dinner in the evening. I was just in a routine.
With everyone home we have a regular dinner time but the rest of the day is just a constant mealtime. One of the kids loves to bake too. All would be fine if I had any willpower at all but I don't seem to have an ounce of it. Teens can have 8 snacks a day, this mom definitely Cannot.

BerryPieandCustard · 20/06/2020 10:45

Hi everyone

I knew that I needed to loose weight (never owned scales but could see it) the first few weeks of lockdown was like a 24/7 snack fest for me Blush
First thing I did was give up fizzy drinks (I used to have loads of cola/dr pepper) now I allow 1 can of Pepsi max a day but can go a few days without Star

I also don’t want a quick fix, I got some scales and was 14st4 I need to be a few pounds either side of 10st to have a BMI ideal for my height.

I started 6 weeks ago using my fitness pal. I weighed out the portion sizes and was so surprised by what I would ordinarily eat versus what I should eat! I’m eating more veg and salad and found that it makes me feel full but has less calories. If I want a snack I have a glass of water or squash and wait half an hour- if I still feel hungry then I have a snack.

I’ve just weighed myself this morning and I’m 13st3 so happy that I have lost a stone!!!!! Really spurred me on for this coming week!!

LadyPrigsbottom · 20/06/2020 11:35

Whistlers, YY, being at home all the time is an absolute killer for me. 24/7 access to my fridge and still feeling quite stressed out, even though I'm a lot less active. No gym and no outings will make Prigsbottom a fat girl, (to misquote The Shining).

Welcome @BerryPieandCustard and well done on the weight loss. That's brilliant Star!

A huge shop once a week doesn't help either. Usually I would do a sensible big shop and let the kids pick up some treats at the weekend. But now I'm adding lots of extra snack stuff and treats to the big shop.

BabCNesbitt · 20/06/2020 23:53

Hello! Can I join you too? I weighed myself tonight and it seems I’ve managed to put on about 15lbs since the start of lockdown. This shouldn’t be a great shock to me as I’ve been eating like I hadn’t seen food for months and none of my clothes fit, but seeing it in figures like that has shocked me!

I tried the No S Diet in November but got bored on the run-up to Christmas; I’m hoping to make it more of a habit this time round!

Onthebrink67 · 21/06/2020 07:38

Good day yesterday 3 meals and no snacks. Knowing it was an S day and I could have something somehow reduced the desire. Going out for a walk later and may take a snack as we’d normally stop at a cafe. Hope everyone else is having a good weekend.

LadyPrigsbottom · 21/06/2020 09:43

Welcome @BabCNesbitt Smile!

@Onthebrink67, that's great! I also felt less inclined to snack yesterday, although I did have my cookie and a few strawberries. Feeling ready for tomorrow.

I've been reading the book and it has some testimonials from people who do the diet. Weight loss does seem to be slow, but hopefully it's a habit I can get into. Even losing half a lb a month is a vast improvement on gaining 2 lbs every month, which is what I've been averaging!

I like the book so far. Think it will keep me on track 🤞.

WhistlersandJugglers · 21/06/2020 10:08

Good Morning,
I had a yogurt and a biscuit with my lunch yesterday but didn't snack at all after dinner. Probably the first time in months.
Having a roast later but plan to fill up on the veg and only have 1 or 2 roast potatoes.

LadyPrigsbottom · 22/06/2020 09:06

Morning everyone! Happy Monday etc. I hope everyone is well.

I've got a very achey tummy today and also last night. I had to take myself off to bed at about 9.30 last night, which is most unlike me. I didn't exactly wake up early either.

Oh well. Definitely sticking to plan today, but it will probably be a late breakfast, when my stomach has hopefully settled a bit and I can face it.

I'm now wondering if it's the few glasses of wine I had over the weekend, as I hadn't drunk a drop for a couple of months, more than that actually, before that... Maybe a bit of a shock to the system!

Anyway, that is probably a bit irrelevant; just sharing my tale of woe Wink!

StealthNinjaMum · 22/06/2020 09:26

@WhistlersandJugglers I’m with you on the big shop. I keep buying ‘treats’ for dc like chocolate buttons to motivate them to do schoolwork but I eat the treats in secret. Normally I wouldn’t have them in the house or would walk to the shops with dc to buy the treats so I wouldn’t be able to eat them in secret.

Not a great weekend for me - although not horrendous. The effort of making 3 meals a day means I’m more likely to eat what dc eat rather than preparing more healthy meals for me. So I had normal stuff like chicken fajitas and spaghetti Bol and tried to have smaller portions but probably had too much sour cream and cheese.

Anyway I woke early today and I am boiling some lentils to have in salads for the next few days or soups. Dc will probably be having cheese sandwiches for lunch and I am in the habit of eating lots of cheese when I do their lunch so I need to stop.

I am going to start logging on mfp today.

StealthNinjaMum · 22/06/2020 09:28

@LadyPrigsbottom I’m sorry to hear about your poorly tummy, I hope you feel better today.

LadyPrigsbottom · 22/06/2020 10:14

Thanks stealth! Probably self inflicted in one way or another. I think I'm reaching the age where I can no longer get away with mistreating my body tbh. Need to do everything a bit healthier. Food, exercise etc.

Re the big shop; in some ways, it's been helpful for me, as we have been forced to meal plan a bit more. Otherwise, in non covid times, the kids end up having something picnicky, (which they love), and then one of us grown ups goes out and gets 'takeaway', (fancy ready meals). But yes, any chocolate or sweets in the house atm don't last long with me around Blush. Can't even blame DH, as he really doesn't have a sweet tooth.

2020in2020 · 22/06/2020 10:35

Can I join?

Have messed about with fasting, Exante, slimming world and all sorts for ages. Over the past year I’ve gained so much weight and I’m now the heaviest I have ever been, my asthma has returned and none of my clothes fit.

Lockdown obviously hasn’t helped. Today I’m starting Slimming World again and cutting out alcohol.

I really want to do ADF as had success in the past, but I have accepted that I personally cannot fast in lockdown. It just doesn’t happen.

So I’m 11st 7 and my target is is 8stone 7. I’m 5 foot 1 inch tall.

DH is joining too. He doesn’t have a sweet tooth but booze is his downfall, especially during lockdown.

WhistlersandJugglers · 22/06/2020 11:08

OK day yesterday but had a late roast dinner so had tea very late so not 16:8.
I'm off to the supermarket soon. I'm noticing that my fridge is pretty empty but the fruit bowl is full and the whole wheat crackers I bought for the kids are also untouched. So definitely less snacks than lockdown usual in the trolley today.
Ladyprigsbottom, sympathy for the dodgy stomach. These days i have a one drink limit or I have an all-day headache the next day.

butidoloveyou · 22/06/2020 11:59

LadyPrigsBottom, hope you're feeling better soon.

Weigh day for me today and lost 1lb so I'm pleased with that. I haven't done a specific plan as such this week - I've just tried to cut out some of the (many) snacks I'd been having and tried to stop when I was full. Does anyone else find that really difficult? When I was younger I would always stop when I was full and quite often leave food on my plate but now I eat everything, even if I'm stuffed! How do I reset myself??!! Hmm

LadyPrigsbottom · 22/06/2020 12:26

Whistlers, I think I have to accept that my couple of glasses in one evening days are behind me! Oh well. My liver will thank me.

I haven't eaten anything today. This is not the plan and I genuinely haven't eaten because I just feel a bit bloated and horrid. It is not an attempt at fasting; although, if I was doing 5:2, I'd probably be doing pretty well today! I've done some exercise which has helped and am drinking loads of water.

Thanks @butidoloveyou! Well done on the loss.

Yes, exactly like you, I always left food if I didn't fancy it when I was little. I often chose salad veg, plain instead of meat or even chocolate. Obviously something major has happened between then and now, as I can't resist a roast dinner or chocolatey things now. Wonder what it is...

Intuitive Eating seems to be about listening to your body etc and only eating when hungry, but I find it incredibly difficult to stop. Hence the No S tactic I'm now trying.

Chicchicchicchiclana · 22/06/2020 12:35

Hello I'd love to join in. I'm not sure exactly what I weigh but it is at least 2 stone more than I'd like to be, if not 2.5.

I dabbled with the no S diet last Autumn and found it quite easy to do and don't know why I let it drift really. I find I need to be quite organised to have decent food in for lunch (I wfh anyway, pre lockdown) and if I have a rubbishy lunch my mood is bad for the rest of the day and I tend to think ohfuckit. When I worked in town I could at least buy a nice salad from Pret or something like that.

In lockdown both DH and I have been drinking too much too, so although I haven't put on weight I certainly haven't lost any.

Anyway, consider me signed up! Grin I would honestly be delighted if I lost a stone by the end of the year and another stone by next June as I have been quite overweight since the age of 40 - and that's a long time ago now.

LadyPrigsbottom · 22/06/2020 12:56

Welcome @Chicchicchicchiclana and also welcome @2020in2020 Smile! Sorry, I missed you earlier 2020.

Yes, I can see lunches becoming a problem...actually, for me, dinner is even worse, as the kids eat so early and DH eats so late, that I end up not eating any proper meal. I snack with the kids, then snack with DH. Even more so lately and I've gained a lot lately, so I'm sure the two things are linked. Must meal plan. Hopefully shopping will become a bit easier now things are calming down a bit too, which will help.
