Hello!

I have gained a shocking amount of weight and absolutely need to regain control of myself.

I do not need another drop-some-lbs-quickly-to-look-lovely-in-my-new-frock-diet. I think it is more serious than that for me now and I need to completely transform my relationship with food, as it has obviously become unhealthy.

I have come crawling back to dieting, (and to MN), to hopefully find some weight loss buddies.

I am planning to do the "No S Diet". The rules are:

  1. No sweet treats
  2. No second helpings
  3. No snacking between meals

Except on "S" days; Saturdays, Sundays and Special Days, (birthdays, Christmas etc).

On "S" days, the theory is that you stick to your three, square meals and also have a special treat or two over the weekend. It isn't that you can then eat a whole tub of ice cream every weekend or anything.

It is meant to be a lifelong plan, (aren't they all?), not a quick fix. So I am not expecting rapid weight loss. I honestly just need to stop gaining at such an alarming rate. Even if I stay as fat as I am, (and I am quite fat), I could live with it, but the rapid weight gain has scared me tbh! I have gained approximately two stone in less than a year SadBlushConfused. Two years ago, I had a normal BMI and I'd just had a baby. Now, I am on the cusp of obese.

I am circa 14 stone, (a few lbs under), and need to be circa 11 and a half stone. At this point, I'd settle for anything under 13! I am 36.

Would love some company Smile.

Well done on the exercise whistlers! I have been quite rubbish on that score lately. Just going out for a walk with dcs, but that seems to be all I can muster these days Blush. I might try and do some yoga this evening though. Just something easy going, like some yoga with Adriene maybe.

I'm not weighing myself this week, but, unless I'm mistaken, my jeans feel a bit looser today and they are fresh on from the wash, when they are normally at their most snug, so hopefully that's a good sign 🤞.

Hi all!

I stuck to the plan yesterday without much bother. So far, another good week, (yes, I know it's only Tuesday Grin).

'Luckily', my toddler was in a very bad mood this morning. This is really unusual, so think it's tiredness as we are getting to that stage where naps only come every few days. Anyway, I'm just having breakfast now, very late, I know. Having a small bowl of porridge with yoghurt, almonds and dates. No idea what I'll do for lunch, but dinner is already in the slow cooker and I think the dcs will like it, which makes things so much easier.

Hope everyone else is well.

Hello @LadyPrigsbottom - I'd love to join and like the idea of your longlasting and sensible plan.

I'm 31 years old, upper end of overweight, have essentially put on weight bit by bit for the last 9 years of higher education. In that time have crept from a size 10 to a size 14. I'm 5ft 7.5 and last time I checked I weighed 13 stone (will update when I can).

I'm TTC so I dont want to do any crazy weight loss. Just be healthier and lose a bit at a time.

I'm thinking a daily calorie count of approx 1400-1600, water for most drinks, and moderate exercise. Ive always been good at exercising to be honest.

LadyPrigsbottom · 07/07/2020 13:21

Welcome @TheDaydreamBelievers Smile.

Oh what an exciting time for you! All the very best with it Flowers!

Yes, I've learnt that I just don't do extreme dieting well. At the very most, I last a week, lose a decent amount, feel all smug...and then fall off the wagon Blush!

So far, this is so much better for me. I'm so pleased to have found something I can stick to, even if I don't much weight at all! It fits in so well with normal life as well. No checking labels all the time, I can join in with family meals etc. At weekends, I really haven't felt inclined to stuff my face. At the moment, (and touch wood and all that), I really am thrilled with it all.

Dh commented that I look as if I've lost weight and he noticed my jeans are loose, so I'm all pleased with myself. Not weighing in until maybe Friday week, but we'll see.

A very healthy and mindful approach @LadyPrigsbottom! I work in MH myself so am 100% aware that restrict/binge cycles 1) don't work and 2) are psychologically really bad for us but nonetheless find myself doing them anyways.

So I have ended up eating my treats on Mon/Tuesday instead of the weekend.

**Monday

Fage plain yoghurt with no sugar muesli Latte

Quorn 'chicken' slices sandwich Apple Cucumber slices

Lemon sole with roast veggies and potatoes

Scone w jam and cream

So far **Tuesday:

Banana Instant coffee with semi skin milk

Tuna mayo sandwich (not a tonne of mayo, brown bread, with leaves and cucumber)
Scone with jam and cream (treat)

LadyPrigsbottom · 07/07/2020 14:23

That sounds lovely daydream and very healthy!

I have a psychiatrist in my immediate family, although their job doesn't have much to do with disordered eating. Well, sometimes it does, but mainly it is other issues. Very interesting work, but I'm sure very challenging at times too!

I've just had some chicken thighs, roasted with a bit of curry powder, peppers & onions with spinach and half a naan bread. Maybe a bit fatty for a weekday lunch, but meh. It was very nice and will see me till dinner.

No S absolutely works as a lifestyle shift.
In lockdown, essentially doing this, I have lost 1 stone 3 lbs and am easily maintaining that. I haven't followed the 'no second helpings' but have moved to two good meals a day instead. Works for me.
Before lockdown, when I have done this before, I shared a piece of cake on a Saturday when I meet friends for lunch each week, and then ate cake or pudding when out for Sunday lunch. Something to look forward to each week; I enjoyed it much more for being less frequent, and I didn't mind not eating sweet stuff on other days since I knew I was going to have it on the weekend.

TheDaydreamBelievers · 07/07/2020 14:50

Woohoo, well done @Scarby9! That's definitely the way to do it - to have nice treats on nice days out! I ended up with the scones because my friend brought them as a post run treat last night. They are delicious. Now I just wont have any more treats till the weekend (that's the goal anyways!)

LadyPrigsbottom · 07/07/2020 15:15

That is very encouraging @Scarby9! Huge well done!

Yes, this weekend just past, I shared a bun with DC one day and had an ice cream the other day. This honestly was enough and I didn't feel like eating loads more sweet stuff. Before this, I was nibbling on biscuits, cakes, crisps etc all week long! So this is definitely a big change.

Thank you - I'm delighted too!
I'm hoping my appetite is now reset so that when work opens back up fully ( been WFH and in complete control of the food that enters the house) I won't return to the mindless all day snacking on rubbish.
Although I have read this is a bad idea, I intend to weigh myself every morning just to spot if the weight begins to creep back on and to take immediate action if it does. That extra stone and 3 lbs essentially went on while I was looking the other way...

LadyPrigsbottom · 09/07/2020 10:10

Morning everyone!

So far, so good this week. Well, actually, last night's dinner ended up being pizza...which is less good, but I only had a few slices. But technically it was one plate of food, so I'm still within the rules!

Starting today with baked, spiced porridge and just had a huge coffee.

Hope everyone else is ok.

Onthebrink67 · 09/07/2020 13:26

Week going pretty okay here. Still tempted by mindless snacking but definitely giving in less. I’m not beating myself up if things go wrong because that’s life but moving in the right direction.

WhistlersandJugglers · 09/07/2020 14:07

Going OK here too, not strictly 16:8 but not snacking in the evening. If I'm not a bit down in weight tomorrow I'll be annoyed. I had porridge for breakfast yesterday with a sprinkle of seeds and it kept me full all day. I always have some in the cupboard but I usually go for toast or yogurt. I'll definitely be eating it regularly from now on.

LadyPrigsbottom · 09/07/2020 14:12

I'm really hungry today and I don't know why! I've still kept to my two meals though. About to do school pick up and then, before I know it, it'll be dinner time.

I find porridge is very filling too @WhistlersandJugglers. The baked one I had this morning was lovely.

@Onthebrink67, you are right, I think, not to get wrapped up in the individual slip ups. It's a marathon, not a sprint etc Smile.

OP posts:
drspouse · 09/07/2020 23:06

I'm getting better with the snack and meal planning (though still not great) but much better on exercise. Trying to do my 10K or a workout video every day and I've discovered a whole range of walking workouts which are great for my poorly hip.

WhistlersandJugglers · 10/07/2020 09:52

No weight loss today. I think I'll have to tighten up on doing the 16:8. Annoying but I still feel more positive in general now that I'm eating healthier. I'm measuring my waist too and that's down a tiny bit in the 2 weeks since I joined the thread.

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 11:12

Ah that's a bummer re the weight @WhistlersandJugglers! But you know, if we manage to change our habits, that could last a lifetime, which is so much better than a quick drop in lbs imo. Great that your waist has gotten smaller though.

Oh well done on the exercise @drspouse! I have been rubbish on that front. Just the odd walk here or there and the school run.

OP posts:
drspouse · 10/07/2020 12:23

Just walked up a 100 step monument 6 times! Off home to eat leftover peas and rice for lunch...

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 12:31

Oh god, I think that would finish me off @drspouse!! Well done to you! You must be really fit.

I have no idea what to have for lunch. I had two small toasted pancakes for breakfast and then thought...oh balls, is that technically a sweet?? Hmmm anyway, it certainly was a reasonable portion. Not sure what to have for lunch.

OP posts:
drspouse · 10/07/2020 12:42

I'm not really but it's quite hilly here.
During early lockdown I took the DCs up to this monument and had breakfast once a week (we didn't know it wasn't allowed!) and there was a really morbidly obese man doing the steps every time. So if he can do it anyone can.

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 12:44

Hehe, I am under no illusions that I an fitter than a fit, very obese person! Even when very slim, I have never been a sporty type. I do exercise so that I'm less likely to die young and that is it!

OP posts:
LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 17:04

Ended up eating a bit of sandwich and a homemade smoothie for lunch. So far, sticking to plan.

I have absolutely no idea what to do for dinner though. My week's meal plan has gone a bit awry as the week goes on. Will go and have a freezer rummage in a minute I think.

OP posts:
RubySlippers77 · 10/07/2020 22:58

Did you find something tasty for dinner @LadyPrigsbottom?!

DP brought home a takeaway for us but I only ate half a portion, I'm counting that as a win Grin

However, he later took it upon himself to inform me that I was at greater risk from coronavirus because I'm obese. When I looked at him like Shock (he's 22 stone!) he said "well yes, I know I'm obese, but you have put on SO MUCH WEIGHT in the last five years!" and proceeded to go on, and on, and on about it... he'd had a few drinks and gets really bitchy when he starts drinking. I just left the room; he had nothing even vaguely constructive or helpful to say, it was like he just wanted to score points/ make himself feel better at my expense Sad

I lost 1lb this week (48.5 to go!) and like you say, it's not a quick fix. I want to get healthy, I want my DC to be healthy and active, and instilling some good habits has to be the way forward!

LadyPrigsbottom · 10/07/2020 23:10

Aw @RubySlippers77 Sad. WTAF? He shouldn't have said all that to you. He should know from his own experience, that it isn't as easy as all that to lose weight and / or keep your weight down.

I made myself roast veg, with spaghetti and feta cheese in the end. It was nice enough, but nothing special tbh. Just watched Star Wars 🤓. Now reading my book in bed.

I stuck to my plan today of 3 x meals, so I'm happy about that.
