Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

I just succumbed to a handful of (very) honey glazed nuts after an hour’s walk in the wind.
Need to tell DH to eat some, cause there’s a lot more in the packet.

beforeIhit30 · 19/10/2019 08:17

Every time I start a post I lose it or get distracted!

So, had a better few days and feeling much better for it. Haven’t weighed yet but we’ll see.

Thursday was mince and cabbage for dinner, I didn’t have anything else as I was bloated and full feeling in the morning.

Yesterday:
B: creamy coffee, 2 cappuccinos, sausage, egg, bacon and a spoon of baked beans.
D: chicken, cauliflower, broccoli.
Evening snack: Greek yoghurt, peanut butter, raspberries.

(PS I normally only drink decaf coffee, if I’d had 3 regular coffees yesterday I would have been buzzing!)

Groceries coming this morning but also have some cooked meals in the fridge so I’ve got a variety of good options. I’ve also been trying to keep my step count up, I’ve done quite well this week - one day 10k, two 14k, one 16k - the other day was 4k as I stayed at home so didn’t walk as much, but feeling pleased albeit also feeling it in my legs! I used to walk a lot before I got ill so I’m gradually getting back into it.

7Worfs · 19/10/2019 09:26

Happy weekend, everyone Smile
Hovering at the same weight for a 4th day, but having logged daily in the app, it does seem like a pattern to stall for a bit and then have a sudden drop ( hopefully!)

I hope everyone has a nice weekend Brew

WoollyFoolly · 19/10/2019 11:13

12.3 again this morning but given the amount of cheese and biscuits I had last night that seems pretty good to me.
Not much news from doc yesterday, referred on for an ultrasound this time but she seems pretty sure it's just an anatomical quirk rather than anything else.

cricketmum84 · 19/10/2019 11:23

Morning all and happy weekend!

Still 19.2 this morning but am being mega organised and planning my entire weekend into MFP now so I don't stray away from calories. I've also meal planned the full week trying to focus heavily on protein and nutrients. My MH hasn't been good this week so I'm hoping that some really good food and thinking about health might help.

Plan for this weekend! Breaking my fast at 1pm with I sliced yellow pepper, full fat cottage cheese with a tablespoon of mixed seeds sprinkled on. Tonight is mixed bean chilli with a small portion of quinoa (must not get jealous of everyone else having theirs with tortilla chips!).
Tomorrow I'm planning on having some greek yoghurt, honey and blueberries and then making a big pan of curry with squash, chickpeas and spinach. Should be enough for a few days of work lunches although DD/DS has already gone "mmmmm that sounds nice" and she is basically a Hoover when it comes to food Grin I've got babybels, blueberries and the aldi protein nuts graze style boxes for snacks.

I have a poorly foot at the moment and barely able to walk on it. It's getting worse and I'm now hobbling everywhere, really should go see the doctor! But I think I'll be pretty inactive this weekend.

Hope everyone has a lovely Saturday!

B cream apple danish (440)
L mushroom poke bowl (380) fruit salad (140)
S large full-fat yoghurt (450) blackberries (50)
D nothing or fruit salad (140)
A bit over but it’s the weekend.

Hope everyone’s having good days and hope your foot gets better soon @cricketmum84.

Egghead68 · 19/10/2019 17:27

P.s. congratulations on the walking, @beforeihit30 and glad the doctor’s not too concerned @woollyfoolly

beforeIhit30 · 19/10/2019 19:26

Oh dear hope your feet feels better soon cricket!

Thanks Egghead, and poke bowls are great!

Today:
B: creamy coffee, sausage, eggs, cherry tomatoes.
D: grilled mackerel, coleslaw, a couple of sundried tomatoes.

I will probably have a little something later, maybe some Greek yoghurt with raspberries and peanut butter (a new favourite).

I tried a new recipe for grain free lower sugar muffins today, they also happen to be dairy free and easy to make, had to eat a small corner to see how they turned out but was trying to keep it minimal! Mainly made for the DCs but good to try for me too, but I’m pretty sure the carb estimation in the recipe is way out - it says 7g per muffin but by my count it’s closer to 14g (followed quantities and serving numbers exactly). However they’re good and most of the carbs and sugar come from banana, so still tick the boxes in what I look for for DCs (would be more of an occasional thing for me).

Egghead68 · 19/10/2019 20:49

Cracked and ate two mini samosas Sad

Plan for tomorrow
B: sun-dried tomato twist (650)
L: veg sushi (350)
S: figs & high protein yoghurt (200ish)
D: pumpkin curry (200ish)

beforeIhit30 · 19/10/2019 22:13

Didn’t fancy anything more in the end, so have just had a cup of tea instead. Feeling good about that! Grin

WalnutBerry · 19/10/2019 23:38

Hello, joining again. Have been on and off since May. To confess my sins, I put back on half a stone.

No specific diet but using a tracker app. Done a meal plan. Had a gym induction today.

Goal is to lose 2 stone by Feb.

DownUdderer · 20/10/2019 06:23

I’m plateauing still. I’m going to buy a sports bra tomorrow and think about doing a work out at home. I’ll find something on YouTube.

Egghead68 · 20/10/2019 08:06

I’m going to ditch my “treat” breakfasts for something lighter and healthier. If that doesn’t work I’ll have to cut my calories really drastically. Never known a plateau like this. I blame HRT (speaking of which I was 71kg in July immediately before going on it and gained 3.5kg in 2 months...).

7Worfs · 20/10/2019 09:26

Bleh. 5th day stuck at 66.9kg. At this rate I won’t reach the 3kg target loss by end of October.
I was exhausted this morning and didn’t do my fasted HIIT.

Also feeling pretty deflated that my job search isn’t going the way I want to. In need to break into the next level of seniority.

Starting dental implants treatment soon that will cost many thousands, that I would have preferred to do home renovations with.

But other than that, I’m fine Grin

beforeIhit30 · 20/10/2019 10:05

@Egghead68 I know some people say calorie cycling helps, like having a low calorie day, then a higher calorie day, so over the week it averages to the same amount but apparently it can get the body chemistry going again (sort of wake it up!). I suppose that’s a bit like 5:2, in terms of varying the intake depending on the day (but doesn’t require very low calorie intake on the low days). How long has the plateau been? In my experience it can take 2-3 weeks on occasion and then drops, but if it’s been longer than that then obviously that’s irrelevant.

@7Worfs just realised you’re also worried about a plateau! It can sometimes stall for a week or two, it may drop soon hopefully. Try to keep positive with the job hunt, hard I know but it will come eventually. During my last mat leave I was job hunting and about two months in felt rubbish and like I clearly overestimated my skill/desirability to employers! But my break came with a fantastic role which was actually my ‘long shot’ application that I put in for more as a “Why not?” and thinking I could learn from the application process, as I thought it was a bit beyond me. I think being more relaxed about the outcome of that actually helped. I hope you get something you want soon.

Back down to where I was a week ago (yay!), having gone a bit wonky earlier this week. So no major losses but back on track and feeling much better for it. Which means since I started mid-September im 4.4lb down, of which 1.6lb is October. Another 35.2lb to go Grin but pleased nonetheless, hopefully I’ve smoothed over the initial starting bumps and will be a bit more consistent now.

Plan for today:
B: creamy coffee, sausage, egg, roasted tomatoes.
D: I have leftovers - I’m likely to either choose cabbage and mince or chicken with veg. I also have a pork belly dish but don’t think I’ll fancy it following sausage for breakfast.

7Worfs · 20/10/2019 11:23

Thanks, @beforeIhit30
I love your job hunt story! I dread returning to my old job. I used to like it, but there was a change in line managers a few months back, and the new one is a micromanager who doesn’t believe in flexible working. I just can’t work with people like that.

Baguetteaboutit · 20/10/2019 11:58

Pumpkin curry - 200 cals...sounds very seasonal and amazing, could I have the recipe please Egghead?

I'm in the plateau club. I had a rush of blood to the head and tried a hiit workout and now I can't get up and down the stairs without groaning loudly Blush

Ihatesundays · 20/10/2019 12:14

I’m struggling. I haven’t lost anything this month. I’m toning from exercise but need to lose more weight.
I did do a 3km run this morning though.

I think I just eat too much. It’s not even that much. It’s enough that I maintain but I think to lose I need to eat very little and I find that soooo hard. I’m already hungry a lot of t he time as it is.

cricketmum84 · 20/10/2019 13:13

@Baguetteaboutit this is the recipe I'm using today

avirtualvegan.com/easy-butternut-squash-spinach-curry/

Have put it into mfp and it's coming out as 209 cals per portion based on 4 portions. Even with the coconut milk. I'm using a carnival squash rather than butternut squash. It's a bit smaller so may end up throwing in a tin of chickpeas to bulk it out a little.

OP posts:
cricketmum84 · 20/10/2019 13:27

@Ihatesundays no I haven't lost a thing either. No idea why as I'm consistently under calories. I'm frustrated as hell!!

Baguetteaboutit · 20/10/2019 16:44

Brilliant, thanks cricketmum! I'll give it a go this week.
