Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

@Baguetteaboutit

  1. Head to your local M&S
  2. Hand over £2,50
  3. Make sure you eat only half the pack.
Sorry - I am a rubbish cook and time-poor (2 jobs). I wish I could whip up things like that. I did once learn to make Japanese pumpkin curry though which was great - I’ll see if I can dig up the recipe.

@beforeIhit30 Thank you. I think this is what I will have to do. I’ve lost no weight in the first 2 weeks of this diet. I’ve used exactly the same strategy twice before (pre-HRT) and lost steadily Sad

I hope everyone else plateauing sees some losses soon. Smile

Egghead68 · 20/10/2019 17:34

Can’t find a good recipe for the Japanese (Kabocha) curry but found this which looks really good and might work with light coconut milk (or with tofu instead of chickpeas for low carbers):

Just checking in as I finished week 1 today (I'm so behind!) and I'm delighted to have lost 3kg already. One week tomorrow to our beach break so I would love to lose another 1.8kg by then, but feel that may be overambitious as it's bound to slow down now.

I had a sausage and gravy craving tonight so I stopped off on the way home for Fry's vegan sausages (I'm vegetarian) and had two with veg gravy granules, a ton of veg and a teeny potato. Yum.

Mrscog · 20/10/2019 20:02

Hi everyone, I fell off the thread, won’t have lost anything as had a week off and I’m pre-menstural. Hoping for a better week! Well done to everyone who is sticking with it!

Egghead68 · 20/10/2019 21:39

Fantastic @QRcode! Welcome back @Mrscog!

beforeIhit30 · 21/10/2019 00:01

@7Worfs ah I had that in my previous role, got what I needed and got out sharpish! I really don’t understand those types but they appear to be abundant in some places.

@Egghead68 hope you crack it and it works well for you Smile medications and hormones can really alter things, I’m on a hormone therapy (for my thyroid) and it took me ages to find a weight loss/management approach that would work, whilst it became incredibly easy to gain. Was really disheartening at first but I found what works for me in the end with a lot of trial and error (which for me is low carb high fat, the low sugar element being especially beneficial for me). Things I did before just didn’t work.

Went with chicken and veg for dinner, which is quite lean, so I followed it later with Greek yoghurt, peanut butter and raspberries.

Morning all and welcome to day 21!!

The scales moved!!!! At last!! After hovering between 19.3 and 19.2 all month I jumped on the scales this morning to a straight 19. Really hoping I'm starting with a whoosh. I do usually plateau for maybe one or two weeks per month but this was definitely the longest so far! There is hope my fellow plateau-ers!!

Plan for today is:
Am - green tea and water
1pm - super green soup
Snack - graze protein nuts
7pm - smoked haddock, new potatoes and broccoli

Have a lovely Monday everyone!

Half a pound down - at least it's something. I'll take it. The crux of it is though, is that I'm not prepared to be any hungrier than I am so I'm in it for the long haul, I suppose.

Baguetteaboutit · 21/10/2019 08:35

Oh, and thank you for the recipes. I'm going to try and make one new meal each week so that I have a bunch of tasty but lower calorie foods in the arsenal.

Egghead68 · 21/10/2019 08:44

Thank you @beforeihit30. 73.1kg this am. Bracing myself for some serious calorie restriction.

WoollyFoolly · 21/10/2019 09:25

Not tracked at all over the weekend, too much going on! Back on it today so planning leek & potato soup for lunch and lentil shepherds pie for tea.

CalmConfident · 21/10/2019 09:34

Weigh in later this morning, hoping the dancing at the weekend offset the drinks!

7Worfs · 21/10/2019 10:17

Congrats to all plateau breakers, I’m also 0.2kg down today! Star

Had a horrible night with hourly wakings, so absolutely wiped this morning. No strength for HIIT. So compensating with 1 additional hour to the fast and hopefully a long pram walk later.

@beforeIhit30 I’m surprised at the level of similarities between us two Shock - I have Hashimoto’s so on levothyroxine for life.

This morning it dawned on me that I’m putting a lot of undue stress on myself...
EBF small baby, fasting and exercise, job hunting, life admin, home renovation, extensive dental work... at least I have 0 guilt that I don’t do any housework.

beforeIhit30 · 21/10/2019 10:24

Morning all! Have just broken below 175lb this morning (just! I’m at 174.8) so that is encouraging.

Today:
B: stewed pork belly, chorizo and mushrooms, creamy coffee. Still hungry so will go for a second coffee or my Greek yoghurt/peanut butter/raspberries combo.
D: will use up either the mince and cabbage or chicken and veg.

Weather is a bit miserable today. Just missed out on 70k steps last week (I did 69k!) so I have an aim this week of trying to meet that, although it’s a bit trickier as the DCs are on half term (so plenty of excuse to get out and about, but they can only walk so far!).

cricketmum84 · 21/10/2019 11:50

I've dug the soup maker out for winter :) forgot how happy it makes me! And the super green soup smells amazing (even though it might sound a bit rank).

LooseAtTheSeams · 21/10/2019 12:09

1 lb back on but I reckon that's a blip after too many carbs yesterday! Will stay off wine this week just to be on the safe side!
Did about 4K running yesterday and felt good after a week of head cold/coughing etc.

LooseAtTheSeams · 21/10/2019 12:10

Cricket I love soup for lunch in winter! DS1 wants to start making it fit and I'm not holding him back!

CalmConfident · 21/10/2019 12:11

Woo hoo! 64.8kg - finally got below the elusive and key 65 threshold

CalmConfident · 21/10/2019 12:13

Soup maker...we have one somewhere (adds hunting in the corner kitchen cupboard of doom to things to do list). Anyone have a recirpe for cauliflower soup? Would that even work? We seem to have 3 of them for some inexplicable reason...

cricketmum84 · 21/10/2019 12:17

I love cauliflower. What about this one??

Thanks cricket Smile. I have cheese a plenty so this looks like a really doable one!

beforeIhit30 · 21/10/2019 13:12

Oh I missed your post earlier @7Worfs there are a lot of similarities! Grin And as I near the end of this mat leave I will be job selecting or job hunting again too as my job has completely shifted since I’ve been away (I knew this would happen long before I got pregnant so it’s not surprise, but timing of mat leave has coincided with all of the changes) so I don’t really have a job to go back to! I am of course still employed and have a good employer but will need to have a good think about what I want to do, what they have on offer, and what else is available... and I completely understand what you say about putting undue pressure on yourself, I have that bad habit too Blush but it’s good that you’ve identified it, you can figure out what really matters of all of them and focus on those the most. A small version of that but today I thought I should go out, buy food, get steps up etc and thankfully had a moment of sensibleness (if that’s a word) and instead made a coffee, fed baby and am watching a Netflix series about food production whilst baby sleeps on me Grin I think it’s the first time in ages I’ve just sat down in the living room and not done much. Lately I’ve been focused on sorting stuff out, ‘chores’, life admin etc as well as diet and activity, but as much as I need and want to be active and healthy, I do need to make the most of the time to just ‘be’ with baby. She’s not even 8 weeks old! I keep reminding myself of that.

Bit waffle-y there but hey ho Grin

beforeIhit30 · 21/10/2019 13:14

Ooh I had cauliflower cheese soup at a local cafe and it was delicious, another good idea for the recipe list.
