Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

Baguetteaboutit I do pretty much the opposite to MilesJupp. I do 16:8 and skip breakfast. Have a small snack before lunch if I'm hungry, then lunch and a normal (filling) evening meal with my kids or DH or both. I haven't changed what I have for my evening meal at all really. I have stopped snacking in the evening completely though. The brilliant thing about 16:8 is that you can fit it in wherever suits you. As long as you have that long fasted period, it doesn't matter when it is.

Tanaqui · 17/10/2019 06:03

Well done @Ihatesundays!

10.3 still today. I've downloaded the zero app but I keep forgetting to press stop on it- hoped it would be motivating on the "close the kitchen" front. Have a good day!

Baguetteaboutit · 17/10/2019 07:46

Thanks MilesJupp & WoollyFooly. I think if I were to do it I'd have to make my 8hr window so that I could have dinner with DH. But we don't usually eat till 8pm ish so I'd have to hang on till midday. I suppose it would be cheating to drink lattes all morning? Grin I just don't think I have the mettle for it.

Did you both just jump in with 16:8 or did you slowly close the window down gradually? Have you found it to be of great benefit to have a smaller eating window because of the fast particularly or because you don't eat as much in that window as you would have otherwise?

Sorry, lots of questions.

WoollyFoolly · 17/10/2019 08:05

Finally some movement!! Dropped down to 12.3 this morning, hurray.
Baguette I already missed breakfast most days when I'm working, I've just been more intentional about it and have been working on accepting being hungry. I would never let myself feel hunger before, which I think stems back to my first pregnancy when if I felt the slightest bit hungry I'd be sick or lightheaded or faint. Whereas I think being a bit hungry before each meal is actually normal and you shouldn't eat unless you are hungry. Hard to unpick years of conditioning around food!
The app I have (I don't actually use it very much!) says that you enter a fasted state after 12 hours with no food so as long as you fast a bit longer then that then build it up, you should be fine.

Baguetteaboutit · 17/10/2019 08:11

That, I can do Woolly. I think I should be able to manage 10am- 8pm, which is a start of sorts.

No weight loss for me today but I had three fajitas complete with cheese last night so I don't need Columbo on the case.

7Worfs · 17/10/2019 08:13

I’m still 14:10, it was fairly easy to start it. I think I would be able to move to 15:9 and then 16:8, but I like to break fast at 7.30 right after my HIIT and before babies’ first nap.

Scales moved a little today again, yay. I’ll start to do daily pram walks too, weather permitting.

Have a great day everyone, weather is nice and crisp today. ☀️

7Worfs · 17/10/2019 08:15

so I don't need Columbo on the case

cricketmum84 · 17/10/2019 08:37

Happy Thursday everyone! It's ❤️Day 17❤️

Scales STILL haven't moved and I'm starting to get seriously fed up. I have got to be doing something wrong to still be the exact same weight I was at the end of September!

I know I need to exercise - but finding the time is really hard with everything else that's going on. Plus it's gearing up to the crazy busy work week where I'm back in the laptop as soon as I'm home.

@Baguetteaboutit I jumped straight into 16:8 but found it quite easy as it fitted in with my normal eating pattern anyway. I haven't eaten breakfast in years so I set my eating window as 12ish to 8ish and all I'm missing is a mid morning fruit snack and evening munchies lol!

Plan for today is:
1pm - Morrison's salad box with falafel and maybe some beetroot hummous
8pm - garlic mushroom omelette
Snacks in between - 2 babybel and 2 hard boiled eggs, maybe a satsuma if there's any left in the work fruit bowl!
More water needed too so need to ensure I fill my glass at least 3 times today instead of just once and only drinking half!

Hope everyone has a lovely day :)

Dartmoor sounds like we are suffering g from the same thing! I coughed so much last night, felt very sorry for myself. Hope you are on the mend!
On the upside weighed myself and I'm 10 stone 13. I think that's a loss of 3 lbs this month after a month of plateau. I also risked buying a dress in a smaller size and it fits! I put this down to no wine and some running! The difficult bit will be keeping those 3 lbs off.

DartmoorDoughnut · 17/10/2019 10:20

Thanks so much for all the good wishes, my tonsils are huge but honey is keeping them under control, not sure it’s doing much for my weight loss though and haven’t exercised at all this week other than the school run!

Hope everyone else is doing well @LooseAtTheSeams feel better soon!

WoollyFoolly · 17/10/2019 12:48

I'd really recommend Difflam spray and tyrozets lozenges for sore throats, they were my lifesaver when I had laryngitis at the start of the year!

Delicious lunch today, homemade smoked mackerel pate in a seeded flatbread.
Teriyaki chicken donburi for tea (Wagamama recipe), DH is away so I'm cooking meat! 😁

Egghead68 · 17/10/2019 21:46

Oh dear - all plans scuppered. Went out for lunch (salad & chips) and dinner (large white wine, rice, tofu stir fry). Good 2100 cals with breakfast too. Will do better tomorrow!

Egghead68 · 17/10/2019 21:53

Plan tomorrow

B cinnamon bun (450)
L mushroom poke salad bowl (350)
S high protein yoghurt, raspberries (150)
D ice-cream macaron (450) circuits & spin

Vebrithien · 18/10/2019 06:45

Morning!
I'm back with my weekly report Grin I tend to lurk, but am reading along.
My weekly weigh-in puts me at 89.2 kg, which is exactly the same as last week BUT, I've lost 3 cm round my waist in a week. Not sure what's going on there (internal rearranging?) Not surprised on the plateau, have a stinking cold so have had a couple of medicinal brandies, and pizza!

I have a lovely pair of work trousers that I couldn't so up when I got them (couldn't get the button to reach the hole!) I'll be wearing them to work next week!

WoollyFoolly · 18/10/2019 07:04

Fantastic @verbrithien, well done! Even when thee scales don't move it just shows there's still progress.
Not much to report here. Will finally speak to doc about the x-ray results from a couple of weeks ago. Not expecting much from it, I have to say.

I really need to get some new work trousers, but struggling to find any long enough. 7/8 trousers seem to be the in thing at the moment but when you are tall they just look ridiculous.

DownUdderer · 18/10/2019 07:11

I’ve plateaued all week. I’ve eaten well and my back is finally feeling much better. I’ll be very glad if I can shift a pound. I do believe that my back heeled up much faster than if I’d been my original weight, 12lbs gone for good! And my eating is so much healthier and surely that helped too :)

Vebrithien · 18/10/2019 07:39

Sod it, I'm wearing the trousers today! They are a bit formal for my day off, but it's the boost I need at the end of a difficult week.

DartmoorDoughnut · 18/10/2019 07:43

@Vebrithien congratulations on the new trousers, enjoy!

I am a pound up after a week of no exercise and a few white bread carbs Blush BUT I’m feeling a bit better today and determined to do some exercise later on so hopefully next week will shift a few pounds, particularly with it being half term and our car being off the road so I foresee lots of walking Grin

7Worfs · 18/10/2019 08:17

No change for me today, tired from night wakings but hoping for good weather to go for a walk.

cricketmum84 · 18/10/2019 08:27

Morning all and happy Friday!! What a dark and miserable morning!

Down to 19.2 today so I've lost a grand total of a pound so far this month 🤬

Although I saw one of little DDs friends mums yesterday who said I was looking great and you could really see i had lost more since I last saw her a few weeks ago.

@Vebrithien the trousers thing is such a good feeling :) well done!!

@DownUdderer know how you are feeling with the plateau! 12lbs gone for good is amazing progress though

Good luck with the doctors @WoollyFoolly. Let us know how it goes.

Plan for today is:
Fasting until 1pm
Then half a salmon fillet leftover from last night with a few salad leaves
2 babybel
Dinner is light fish supper. DH and kids are having PROPER fish and chips but I just can't eat it. So I'll do a fillet of cod baked in the oven with some mushy peas on the side, one of my favourite meals :)
Enough breathing space for 2 gins and my CHOCOLATE ORANGE TWIRL that my absolutely adorable assistant at work bought for me!

Have a lovely day everyone!

Baguetteaboutit · 18/10/2019 09:09

Manage to ruin my attempt at a fast this morning by sleep walking to the kettle and making a milky cup of tea before remembering I was on a diet, let alone a fast Hmm

Night wakings are the pits 7worfs. It's hard to explain to little ones that mummy will never lose any weight unless she gets at least 4 full sleep cycles. Grin Best of luck for tonight.

Baguetteaboutit · 18/10/2019 09:12

Yesterday, b: usual porridge with berries l: veg soup s: apple & cranberries D: mushroom barley risotto. Then I got to ten and had another apple and a slice of bread and butter.

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 18/10/2019 09:15

Baguetteaboutit I had been following the 5:2 diet for a couple of years, so my body had got used to fasting. I know some people on here have had success starting with 10:14 & building up.

I think you have to experiment & work out what works best for your body. WoollyFoolly and I eat at different times, because our bodies are different. It really helps you to understand how your circadian rhythms work!

cricket your scales are probably malfunctioning like mine . I lost a pound this week, but that is ALL I've lost this month. Sigh.

Off out tonight: yippee!

I just make sure I fast for 13 hours overnight on Fri, Sat & Sun, but I'm not going till to relax too much, as it's not shifting fast enough this month.

Have a great weekend everyone!

Onesmallstep67 · 18/10/2019 10:07

Happy Friday everyone.
After a low food intake last weekend because of the car troubles and the hassle of getting home, Monday's 16 st 3 lbs looked like a bit of a false low. I went up a pound or more and bobbed around all week but I am 16st 3 lb again this morning and this time it feels about right.
Having no car has meant more reasons to walk and I seem to have been possessed by someone I don't know because I have willingly walked a couple of miles each day. For me this is a massive achievement and my younger, slimmer best friend even asked me to slow down when we went out together.
Having read another thread on here discussing whether or not people should sign off with " xx" on these posts I am resisting the urge to send my love to you all so have a great weekend everyone Smile

Egghead68 · 18/10/2019 12:30

Well done @Venrithien and @Onesmallstep67. My scales are broken too. 73.9kg this morning. 13 days to get to 71.4kg is now looking impossible. I’d be happy with ANY (reliable) weight-loss now but setting my new goal at 72.6kg by Halloween.
