Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

7 I make most of my recipes up! Pick up a few bits and bobs from cooking shows but I use my tried and tested recipes and swap meat out for beans/pulses/meat subs.

A basic curry recipe would be - lightly toast a tablespoon each of garam masala, madras powder and curry powder until warmed and smelling lovely. Transfer to a separate bowl and fry off onion, garlic and ginger, once soft I throw in a tin of tomatoes and half a carton of passata, add in the toasted spices and then whatever filling you are using whether that's meat, fish, chickpeas, lentils and simmer.

For a chilli I throw a tin of tomatoes (sense a theme here 😂) in a pan with chilli powder, garlic, oregano, chillis, paprika and hot sauce and add jackfruit or lentils and beans.

I have an extensive spice cabinet and love experimenting with different flavours. We go through so many times of tomatoes though lol!!

My sons birthday is in late October, I’d be thrilled to have dropped some weight by then! I’d better try and be good for two weeks!

Tanaqui · 04/10/2019 05:15

@7Worfs, thank you- and I managed to neither say sod it and eat crap, not overcompensate and starve (which also leads me to binge again).

10.1.3 this morning. I will try and find a recipe for you later Cricket, am dashing to spin now!

Vebrithien · 04/10/2019 06:48

Morning!
Weigh-in today puts me at exactly 90kg. That's a whole 200g off since Tuesday!!!

Grin

I desperately want to be in the 80's. Have lost 21kg now, another 10kg would put me into the healthy BMI category.

I've been vegetarian for almost 20 years. Every other day I have an egg for breakfast. Can I also recommend the Wheatabix protein. They each have 6 grams of protein in them. They are my other staple breakfast.

Lidl do a vegetable protein power nut and seed snack box (usually at the checkout) and Aldi and Graze also do the same.

I eat sparingly Quorn. Am better with the mince or sausages than the "white meat".

Last night I had Spanish omelette made with eggs and the Heinz Spanish beans (from a sachet) mixed in. Big wodge of that with vegetables. Always add red lentils to any vegetable soup.

Hope my protein ideas help!

7Worfs · 04/10/2019 08:02

Thanks cricket, very helpful! Smile

Downward trend continues today, but my throat is sore and am taking paracetamol, feeling meh.

I spent the night very tired tending to the baby and lamenting that I can’t get onto the Soothers because they’ll break my fast.

HollyTheHarrier · 04/10/2019 08:18

Happy Friday everyone. I had too much chocolate yesterday - I need to do some more healthy baking so I have some nutritious treats available when I need something! Rather than just eating chocolate.

@cricketmum84 your calorie intake must be exceptionally low? Can I suggest Fage 0% yoghurt - 90 calories for a 170g pot, 18g protein and high in calcium too. And both tasty and very filling!

Travelling today and had no time so far to get any breakfast or even a coffee. Fingers crossed I’m not so hungry by the time I get anything that I eat everything!

Tanaqui · 04/10/2019 08:20

Ingredients
1 cup cornmeal
1/2 cup sunflower seeds
1/4 cup crushed flax seeds
1/4 cup sesame seeds
1/4 cup pumpkin seeds
1 cup boiling water
1/4 cup vegetable oil
Large flake salt
Instructions
Preheat oven to 300 degrees, line 2 baking sheets with parchment paper, and prepare 2 additional pieces of parchment paper to cover the baking sheets
Combine all the dry ingredients in a bowl
Stir in the boiling water and oil
Quickly divide the dough between the two papers, cover with the extra parchment paper, and press with hands – or with rolling pin – until very thin
Remove the top paper, cut into squares, and sprinkle with flake salt
Bake for one hour
When cool enough to handle, snap squares apart
Store in airtight container at room temperature

You can change the seeds and quantities, you could add rosemary, you can use ground almonds instead of cornflour! But roll it thin so it's crispy and don't burn it!

Woolly and Crazzzy sending sympathy on the B12 - I have to have the jabs following illness about 4 years ago. Nothing to do with diet but I do add nutritional yeast to lots of things just to top up the othe B vitamins!

WoollyFoolly · 04/10/2019 09:07

Folic acid is a really important one to take if you have b12 deficiency but only if you are having injections. I've been injecting myself for about 4 years now and feel like I'm crawling out of a very long tunnel and can see some light!

MilesJuppIsMyBitch · 04/10/2019 09:18

Morning losers! Happy Friday GlitterballGlitterball

My scales informed me this morning that I've gained two pounds since last week.

I'm ignoring them. In fact, I'm doing grey rock and going No Contact until they improve their attitude.

beforeIhit30 · 04/10/2019 09:19

@7Worfs you have my sympathies (or empathy?), I’ve been up in the night quite a bit lately with DC3 (to be fair, she’s only 5 weeks old!), and I also have a sore throat. Have a lot of errands to do today but I’m tired and just want to stay in bed!

Yesterday was an odd day, DH has come down with a very bad cold and ended up having to spend most of the day and night in bed. Happened to have stuff needing doing (school night so lunches, uniforms etc, also bin night, had laundry to dry, plus baby to feed and settle etc...) so struggled to eat anything proper in the evening as it was just one thing after another amongst bedtimes and I didn’t get down until nearly 1am. Had a large breakfast though - sausage, egg, bacon, tomatoes and mushrooms. Dinner, if you can call it that, was some oat biscuits and tea! DH is a little perkier today although still ill, thankfully he did the school run and did breakfasts for DC1 and DC2 (I was mentally prepared to do this but physically hoping not to!).

Today? Not sure Blush I’m just tired. I did however cook the duck yesterday so I can easily have that for dinner, will also roast a chicken. Right now DC3 has fallen back to sleep after a feed so I’m going to attempt some sleep...

Onesmallstep67 · 04/10/2019 09:53

Morning everyone. October going pretty well so far. I've been avoiding too many snacks and for the last 4 evenings I have stopped eating by 7pm. At the moment though I only hold out until about 9.30am before I have breakfast, so roughly 14 and a half hour fast. I'm 1lb down on October start weight and hoping it could even be 2 by tomorrow as the scales were just on the cusp of 16.6/16.7.
Having been a non exerciser/walker for way too long I have done a couple of longish ( for me) walks ( 2-3 miles) and I have started using the exercise bike that has been in the house for 3 years with clothes hanging off it mostly. It won't be a precise measurement but it tells me I have used 100 cals after about 20 mins/6 k. So I did that twice yesterday ( and watched telly at the same time ).
Thank you to everyone who shares their food ideas and recipes. I find it very useful.
Have a great Friday everyone xx

Crazzzycat · 04/10/2019 10:12

Morning everyone! I had a good day yesterday as I came in slightly under target.

Today’s plan is spicy bean wraps and carrots for lunch, pasta bake and a big green salad for dinner. Snacks will be 2 tangerines, a soya yoghurt with some more fresh fruit and corn thins with hummus and quorn ham.

cricketmum84 · 04/10/2019 10:12

Morning all. Sorry it's a late check in from me! Just waving hi as I rush into work after going to little DDs award assembly. Well I say little, she is year 6 now so this will be her last primary school award assembly. Managed to not cry (just).

Must run. Will catch up with the thread when I'm home later!

@beforeIhit30 you are a real soldier!
I only have one DC (4mo old) and I haven’t lifted a finger around the house yet.
His day naps are on top of me, BF to sleep. I need to somehow put a stop to that and reclaim some life back.

WoollyFoolly · 04/10/2019 13:31

The weather is shite but at least it's good for soups. I love soup and secretly quite enjoy it when it gets cold enough to make it again. Just had a delicious leek and potato soup for lunch.
Been for the X-ray of my lump this morning but results take 2 weeks. The technician said she thought an X-ray wasn't the best thing for seeing what was going on anyway so I might hear back from the radiographer that they need to do something different.

7Worfs · 04/10/2019 14:57

Oh, soup! That will work a treat on my sore throat.
Ate a Ritter Sport chocolate bar this afternoon, I needed it.

Woolly hope you can put it at the back of your mind until results come on. Should be benign as if it looked bad they’d speed test you AFAIK.

beforeIhit30 · 04/10/2019 18:26

Ha @7Worfs you’ve probably got it right though! I don’t want to spend my mat leave doing errands! I can’t breastfeed and DH is a SAHP so it’s always been a bit more flexible between us, in a sense, but I don’t want to lose the bonding time with baby. I managed to get 2 hours of extra sleep and then had to drop off some parcels, get some more formula and collect the DCs from school - got home and felt like I hadn’t seen DC3 today and immediately needed hugs from her!

Haven’t eaten properly today, feeling tired, sore throat, DH still ill although much better. First meal is dinner Blush got takeaway Blush

I want to drink tea and eat chocolate but I’m not sure the latter is a great idea! My weight loss journey may be a slow starter... Grin will wait a couple of days before weighing myself again!

7Worfs · 04/10/2019 19:02

Have a hot chocolate as a compromise Grin
And maybe save half the takeaway portion for tomorrow if it’s a massive one Halo

beforeIhit30 · 04/10/2019 22:11

Oh hot choc is a good idea @7Worfs! I’ll need to get some in Smile sometimes I just want a bit of chocolatey flavour. I don’t do well with much sugar, it can make me feel bad, so I’m always dicing with, “Will I regret this?!”.

Nearly met my 10,000 steps today, yay! Going to try and do some proper meal planning this weekend to avoid another hodge podge week of meals.

DownUdderer · 05/10/2019 02:45

I keep meaning to find some hot chocolate to have in the cupboard. I used to have a lovely sugar free one, really chocolatey though.

Tanaqui · 05/10/2019 06:43

I hope you are feeling better today @beforeIhit30 and @7Worfs. I am impressed with you guys with little babies losing the baby weight already!

10.0.3 today! Feeling much happier. Have a great weekend everyone!

FashionFoodLaughs · 05/10/2019 07:13

Hope you feel better soon@7Worfs and @beforeIhit30. I have been 10.12 all week. No gains and I’ve been carb loading as running my first half marathon tomorrow so I think that’s a good thing. Today’s plan:
B - porridge with mashed banana and protein powder
L - smashed avocado on sourdough with tomato, feta, chilli and rocket
D - spaghetti with pesto and roast veg and garlic bread
S - going to the cinema so maybe a chocolate bar but I shall be mainlining water and squash all day

lightlypoached · 05/10/2019 07:45

Morning. I've just been on another thread doling out cheery advice as to how to put on weight ! A lady has been ill and is very underweight. I was there once after a serious illness -38 kilos (6st) at 5'6" tall. Skeletal!

When writing the advice it was so clear that it was the snacks that dunnit! Snacks. Empty, un-needed calories. Biscuits. Gone in a moment, full of fat and sugar. Huge glasses of fruit juice- gulped down and making my blood sugar spike so I wanted chocolate half an hour afterwards. Chocolate scoffed down, making me just want more.

I feel so much better when I eat well. I'm sticking with the 16;8 for life. Once a week. Deffo.

I was at 61,1 /29% yesterday so not bad for someone who has drunk wine and not exercised (been Ill)

Off to friends for the weekend, which will be bloody lovely but highly calorific. Grin see you on the other side losers !

WoollyFoolly · 05/10/2019 08:04

Morning all, 12.5 for me today so 2lb down in October so far which seems bonkers. I usually go up and down a bit over the weekend.

I ordered a Stitch Fix box for myself which arrived this week. Basically you answer lots of questions and you then get a selection of clothes sent to you by a stylist to keep if you like them or return if you don't. I thought it'd be a good way to try out some new brands and styles to see what suits me now - now that I don't have to dress to avoid the dreaded 'when is it due' question 😖
