Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

@HollyTheHarrier it was here: www.mumsnet.com/Talk/exercise/3708668-women-are-not-small-men-tedtalk

It was just enough to make me wonder if I am fuelling my menopausal body appropriately - like you @WoollyFoolly I eat everything before my period/at ovulation and have gained weight around my middle in a very middle aged way. I don't really know where to look for good quality info though, as someone on that thread suggests she is a bit "woo"! But I know I feel better on low ish carb, and it's a nuisance I have to have lunch at work that is often really carby!

Egghead68 · 09/10/2019 07:08

74.1kg this morning. Down a bit from my previous 74.4-75.0 fluctuation so I’m happy with that.

cricketmum84 · 09/10/2019 07:13

Thanks for the words of support guys. It's so easy to feel very alone in this situation and having a vent on here is really helpful.

Day 9 today and it's not going well... back up to plateau weight. My weight is jumping around so much this week, no idea how as even with the vegan roll yesterday I was still below calorie target. Ah well, I think I've just got to stick this out until it starts moving in the right direction again.

Plan for today is
1pm - 200g 0% greek yoghurt with a teaspoon of honey and some blueberries
3pm - quick snack of 2 babybels between meetings
8pm - lentil and spinach curry

Have a lovely day everyone!

cricket might be the stress, all kinds of hormonal spikes. Hope everything calms down soon.

Baby kept waking up in the night. I’ve lost some weight since yesterday, but it feels like it was all from my brain. I’ll eat chocolate today.

Mrscog · 09/10/2019 11:21

I think I’m a bit stuck - need to do a really good couple of days on track. So far I’ve had a small fruit salad with some yoghurt and a sprinkling (really was a sprinkling) of granola. Need a filling but low cal option to get me through lunch until dinner which won’t be until 8pm.

Ellabella989 · 09/10/2019 11:34

SO jealous of people who can eat whatever they want and never gain weight. My DP inhales so much food and he doesn’t even get bloated :-(

Today’s food:
B - banana, Muller yogurt and small bowl of grapes.
L - chicken and veg stir fry with some wholewheat noodles.
D - cheese and ham pasta bake but i’ll just be having a small portion with some salad as it’s pretty calorific.
Snacks - 2 squares dark choc.
Drinks - 3 litres water

I hate having to count calories as I could eat and eat all day long and never be 100% satisfied. It’s the only way I’ve lost a decent amount of weight though.

beforeIhit30 · 09/10/2019 11:39

I was going to say stress too @cricketmum84. I can’t remember it exactly, but there’s all sorts of hormonal spikes with stress (is it cortisol?) which leads one to crave things like sugar and just generally messes with the body chemistry a bit. Which is why some people get bloated, gain weight for instance when stressed even if they’re not eating hugely differently, the body is trying to hang on to things like sugars/carbs more than usual (think maybe it’s a fight or flight thing? I must find this explanation again!). Also agree that calling SS for support is exactly what it’s there for. We have done the same (disabled children) and wow, it really helped. We’ve even now reached the stage a couple of years later where we don’t need the same type of support and I’m waiting to amend the package we have.

Not sure what we’ll be doing for dinner today but we have leftovers so it’ll be a mix of that I think (we have mince/okra/aubergine, some cooked chicken, and spiced pork steak, and celeriac mash, plus other veg in the fridge).

Today is slightly less easy to plan as I’m heading out, but breakfast has been low carb mini muffins with 100% peanut butter and a milk coffee. Will probably have a coffee or tea out and maybe something to eat if I’m hungry.

Baguetteaboutit · 09/10/2019 12:05

Erm, I know I am late to the party but can I jump in too? I've bought a dress that is too tight but, I think, I could nail it with 6lbs. On the up side, I have till mid-November to do this. I'm 11 stone 2, 5 foot 6 which is bang on a bmi of 25 which apparently is not a guarantee to crow bar into a online purchase of a size 14 dress in any decent manner for a 40 year old Grin

Stickytoffeepuddingyum · 09/10/2019 12:06

Hi

Joining for the 1st time, so stats current weight 16st 4, no weight loose yet started diet yesterday. Hoping to get back to 11 stone. But looking at it in small stages. So hoping for 3 stone by May next year, lots of weddings.

Doing calorie controlled diet and just bought an exercise machine for home, to hopefully get moving.

7Worfs · 09/10/2019 12:16

Hi toffee Smile
If you have cardio equipment at home, the best time to do it is first thing in the morning while still fasted.
I’m finding that and eating 14:10 (between 7.30am and 5.30pm) very effective

WingDefence · 09/10/2019 12:31

Hi all and hi newcomers :)

Breakfast was Alpen NAS, lunch is pasta with tuna in chilli oil. It is HOT!

Found out this morning that DS passed his 11+ for the grammar he wants to go to so will be out for a curry treat tonight and there may be wine involved. Wine

Stickytoffeepuddingyum · 09/10/2019 12:54

7Worfs thanks. the problem with doing it first thing, is finding the time, with getting ready for work and school. So was planning to do it around 8, once eaten usually about 7 and when little one is in bed.

Hopefully going from zero exercise to at least 3 times a week, will help.

WoollyFoolly · 09/10/2019 13:30

Determined to pull this week back, I was meant to be meeting a friend for lunch but they cancelled so instead I'm just having a protein shake and WILL NOT eat half a loaf of bread like yesterday. Found a recipe in the current Tesco magazine I was going to make for tea (spicy corn and chickpea burgers) until I remembered I'd melted the food processor bowl on the hob last week (😖) so maybe a lentil dhal instead.
Still staying at 12.6 at the moment.

Mrscog · 09/10/2019 14:05

I have had two healthy light meals and I do not need chocolate (repeat)

I need to think about how great I’ll feel if I can stay on track.

DartmoorDoughnut · 09/10/2019 18:12

Hope everyone is having good days despite the blinking rain!

@WingDefence that is brilliant news! Have a fantastic celebration Grin

Did ok today, managed to do BodyBoss pre training, no where near able to keep up and do all of it but some is better than none!

Breakfast- 2 wheatabix and a small banana
Lunch- pork chop and lettuce/cucumber/pepper
Dinner- french onion soup with some grated cheese on top

Managing to keep to 16:8 or whatever it’s called but I am hungry so may have an apple or something later ...

Egghead68 · 09/10/2019 18:58

Really bad eating day for various reasons but I’m OK with that. Onwards and upwards tomorrow.

WoollyFoolly · 09/10/2019 19:00

Ooh dartmoor, French onion soup is my favourite. I've been very restrained today, just had a protein shake for lunch (I find them very very filling!) and a chicken burger and lots of salad for tea.

WingDefence · 09/10/2019 19:44

burp I have eaten too much and I didn’t even finish my veg curry. Back home now, def time for Wine

WingDefence · 09/10/2019 19:45

And thanks Dartmoor! Egghead - tomorrow is definitely a new day for the both of us I think!

AndTheyLivedHappilyEverAfter · 09/10/2019 20:15

Evening everyone,

I had a bad evening last night and ate loads! I didn't manage my usual 16:8 today as my belly was rumbling so much it was embarrassing so I cut it short at 11am. Had 1130 calories all day, so that's good! I'm hoping I still loose this week as I was bad on Saturday gone and I'm out for a meal again this Saturday. Fingers are crossed!

Ihatesundays · 09/10/2019 21:17

I feel good today I didn’t over eat and we had a light dinner. Managed 30 minute workout and feel good for it.
I think I’ve been bloated for the last week after we all had a bug so hopefully scales will start to come down again...

DownUdderer · 09/10/2019 22:45

Hi everyone, I’ve stayed the same weight for seven days. I’m eating a calorie deficient but it’s my TOTM so I must be retaining water. I’m not sure what my body is doing, but I can’t wait to see the scales move again. I’m new to 16:8 and I’ve not been on a diet for years, so it’s a learning curve.

FashionFoodLaughs · 10/10/2019 07:38

Hey @DownUdderer snap! AF on the way here, retaining water and soooo bloated so decided not to weigh today. Had a sea salt dark chocolate mini bar from Aldi and a mini pack of jelly babies for snacks yesterday (I don’t normally snack). Plan for today is:
B - chia seed yoghurt with mashed banana and agave
L - cous cous salad with cooked chicken, fruit
D - quorn sausages, leek and potato mash and peas

7Worfs · 10/10/2019 07:47

Morning!
I’m heavier than yesterday, probably the curry dinner is to blame.
Recovered from the cold, but tired with baby night wakings. I must resume morning cardio tomorrow, no excuses!

poshme · 10/10/2019 08:23

Well yesterday was a complete write-off. Ate chocolate at lunch & then had pizza & wine in the evening.
My excuse is that the weather was horrible & I think I'm Getting a cold.

AF due so also feeling bloated. Not sure I'll weigh today!

Aiming for a better day today. Trying to generally drink lots more water (instead of coke or gin or wine) which so far is going well.
