Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

@MiniDoofa - I feel like I am the last person to be able to give advice but I am going to try anyhow!

I think we are all different and ultimately you just have to try a few things and see what works for you.

For me - I always find it easier to start by adding positive habits rather than going straight into dieting e.g. adding in daily exercise, more portions of fruit, more portions of vegetables, an emphasis on eating healthily.

Then, after a couple of weeks of that, I launch into the "diet" phase, which is basically keeping that up but limiting myself to (ideally) 1400 calories a day. During this phase I often eat cake for breakfast (which I thought I had invented as a diet but apparently is a "thing"). The idea is that this feels like you get a treat everyday so you don't feel deprived. The rest of the day I eat healthily.

@MiniDoofa echoing egg’s advice to start slow and build up, finding out what works for you to adopt as a lifestyle change (as opposed to a temporary diet).

Removing and replacing empty calories gradually can give you a very nice boost - e.g. drinking mostly water and tea (and a lot of it!), replacing sweet treats with naturally sweet foods, less heavy carbs and more protein and vegetables.

Post more as you go along, we’ll support you Smile

Hi all - I'm going to be completely honest and track all food and snacks with you lot. So this morning breakfast was 1.5 crumpets and I didn't manage to avoid the lure of bread mid-morning and had a small slice with butter and peanut butter (I KNOW!!!!).

Lunch - jacket pot with cottage cheese and some kidney beans on the side.

Really need to stop with the bread!

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 14:40

Yep, buttered toast is a kryptonite.

My meals are pretty much the same everyday (Velcro baby):

Breakfast - 2 pieces of toast with peanut butter
Snack - 0% Greek yogurt and a banana
Lunch - 3 scrambled eggs topped with cottage cheese, 1 piece of toast with smoked salmon, sliced tomatoes and cucumber
Optional snack - a handful of dates (sometimes chocolate)
Dinner - a ready meal Blush

Drinking water, tea and coffee only.

MiniDoofa · 08/10/2019 16:37

Thank you egg and 7worfs. You’re right about making sensible changes. I’ll start with exercise and lots of water tomorrow. I do have an event early November so am trying to have made a difference by then. I appreciate your support, I’ll keep posting with how I’m going. Thanks again 😀

twobambinos · 08/10/2019 16:45

@WoollyFoolly 30lbs omg that's amazing. You look great. Not that you didn't before hand.
See that's my problem I just don't feel like I look too big at my current size even though I know I am as the clothes say otherwise.

I have plateaued too. Still getting a calorie deficit so hopefully I will see a movement soon.

twobambinos · 08/10/2019 16:51

@7worfs how old is your baby? Sometimes it takes a while for your body to go back into place even though the weight might be the same as before.
I know with my pregnancies even when I had lost the weight it took time before my old clothes fit me. I find pilates good for tightening everything back up.

I'm here using the exercise bike for the first time in over two years. It was hiit on the bike that got me to my leaneat ever not that I was super slim but i did look slim. So I've decided as I ran out of time to go for a long walk today I will try and do a few minutes of hiit before the dinner is cooked. Get the heart rate up a little.

Keep up the good work everyone

Lots of progress here, great!

@MiniDoofa similar to what others have said, I found it helpful to start off focusing on where I am and some better habits rather than major changes. Particularly tracking/logging what I eat (properly, not cutting stuff out or being lazy as I’m not a fan of logging!), for at least two weeks, so I know what I’m doing each day and can reflect on patterns and habits. None of it was to meet a deficit or anything, just to see what my habits are and what that means (eg maybe I’m eating more at lunch, or snacking regularly in the afternoons, maybe there are a lot of carbs etc). I found that really helpful when I then made changes, as I could make informed changes. So for instance sometimes we might swap something thinking it’s more healthy, but maybe it has lots of sugar, or actually is only a few calories less, and so on.

Today:
B: creamy coffee.
L: lettuce, sausage coleslaw.
S (snack): low carb mini muffin.
D: will be making mince, okra and aubergine.

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 17:56

@twobambinos Baby is just over 4mo old.
I had an EMCS, so only started exercising a month ago, 20min of cardio in the morning.
Planning to return to weight lifting at 6mo 🤞🏻

WingDefence · 08/10/2019 18:04

Dinner was quorn sausages, cabbage, gravy and the biggest mound of mashed potato. DH is a fantastic cook and I can’t complain but he makes portions of mash that are enough for 2/3 people and because I like mash I always eat it because I don’t like waste.

Good job my evening fast has just started.

twobambinos · 08/10/2019 18:29

@7Worfs oh the baby is still very young. Apparently the relaxin takes 16 weeks to leave your body and that's if you aren't breastfeeding so joints could be looser than they were still until that's gone. And then the dress sizes will start to go down.

My youngest is a year now and I was below pp weight two weeks later thanks to ongoing sickness in pregnancy But over the last year I have put on and lost the same half stone about 3 times. Angry

FashionFoodLaughs · 08/10/2019 18:40

@WoollyFoolly just catching up on this thread and saw your progress pic, wow! Are you doing any specific exercises for stomach? It is absolutely my problem area, I look like a barrel on sticks, any weight I lose seems to go from my extremities Confused

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 18:40

Ah, thank you for this, bambi, I’d forgotten about the relaxin. I’m still EBF and my joints feel odd, and my rings don’t fit in my hand.

Wing that dinner sounds delicious.

cricketmum84 · 08/10/2019 18:43

@Ecci they are from Iceland. No Bull vegan green vegetable meatballs. I think they are cauliflower, broccoli and spinach. Very nice but unfortunately now out of stock on the website and at our local shop. Thank god I bought a few bags when they were on offer!

Failed a bit today but hopeful I'll pull it back tonight.

Had a stressful morning with DD/DS. Behaviour has been awful and she hasn't been to school in over a week. I broke this morning and have contacted social services to ask for some help.

So then I accidentally ate a vegan roll instead of my protein pot. Then ended up meeting my sister and having 2 gins whilst telling her all about the stress.

Felt awful and had indigestion all afternoon so that will teach me!!

Mrscog · 08/10/2019 19:04

Ah @cricketmum84 you can get this, two gins really not that bad.

I just ate about 6 biscuits after work.... need to go full on low carb Low fat for dinner now.

WingDefence · 08/10/2019 19:12

@cricketmum84 I think you’re doing amazingly considering the stress you must be under at the moment. Star

DartmoorDoughnut · 08/10/2019 19:19

Argh! Typed a long post and lost it 😂

In any case hi!

I’m doing a low-ish carb, no sugar and trying to do some exercise sort of thing. Need to get rid of 2 stone overall but ideally about 3/4 of a stone by early November as I have a thing that needs smart clothes and I don’t fit any of my smart clothes!

Started on Saturday

Start weight 10st 7lbs

Goal weight anything under 9 and I’ll be pleased tbh!

Mrscog · 08/10/2019 21:12

Hi @DartmoorDoughnut welcome!

I just had a glass of wine, a piece of heavily buttered toast and a bag of wheat crunchier for dinner. Feeling all of the remorse tonight. But hey - tomorrow is a new day!

WoollyFoolly · 08/10/2019 22:08

@FashionFoodLaughs, no nothing specific (and not much exercise at all tbh!). I did a 30 day exercise challenge which is a 15 minute exercise video each day which was good (and which finished 3 weeks ago and have done nothing since..) but in general I have very little in the way of stomach muscles!

One of those stupid days today where I just wanted to eat EVERYTHING. Toast and butter, biscuits, anything. I usually find a day or two after one of these days that my period arrives (in perimeno so never know when it's due!) so will see. Also had a slight rage about my ungrateful children too which is another clue it may be on its way!

Ihatesundays · 08/10/2019 22:40

Struggling to lose any weight. 3 weeks into a new job and I am just starting to do some exercise again.
Even though I am not eating loads, office work is making me eat a little bit more and dinner is later.
I wish it wasn’t so hard.

2018SoFarSoGreat · 08/10/2019 23:35

I did see 180 one morning in the last week, but am hovering right around 181, stuck. Have been mostly good, but today was very stressful. My birthday, so cake for breakfast in the office (princess cake from my lovely assistant so unavoidable). Then the treat of two biopsies, fingers crossed they will be benign tumors. Will hobble to dinner tonight and eat all the sushi and then dessert. May even have a drink

Tomorrow is another day. Perhaps the one in which I lose weight.

Well done the rest of you!

Egghead68 · 09/10/2019 00:10

Hope your biopsy results are OK 2018 and Happy Birthday! Cake

Tanaqui · 09/10/2019 05:59

@2018SoFarSoGreat, happy birthday for yesterday and fingers crossed for the biopsies.

@cricketmum84 i also think you are coping amazingly with the stress, and asking for help is not cracking, it's sensible.

10.1 this morning! Feel tired (good gym class last night) but good.
