Link to previous thread here: Half a stone or 3kgs off in September!! http://www.mumsnet.com/Talk/weightlosss_chat/3679916-half-a-stone-or-3kgs-off-in-september

Can't quite believe it's time to start the October thread already!!

So here it is, our challenge to lose half a stone in October. Oldies, newbies and lurkers all welcome. We do a mix of diets/healthy lifestyles etc. I swapped ww for mfp last month to help me focus on nutrients rather than just calories and also follow 16:8 most of the time.

As per every month we ask for positivity, encouragement and motivation to be the best version of ourselves we can be!!

Stats for start of October for me are:

Starting weight: 19.3
Loss for Sept: 10lbs
Loss for 2018: 5st 13lbs

Goal for October: 18.7 - another 10lb loss.

See you all here tomorrow!!

Progress so far--gained a pound. Sigh. Determined to do better this week by religiously tracking food via app. Today's breakfast: 1 banana plus half a glass of Kefir. Not sure about lunch. Dinner will be chicken vegetable soup plus steamed broccoli.

cricketmum84 · 07/10/2019 13:32

@Onesmallstep67 it's definitely useful to share. It sounds like you have had a really difficult time.

These guys have propped me up amazingly over recent months. I always have a whinge on here when times are getting tough. My puss cat almost died after being poisoned, my Eldest has put us through so much heartache with running away, Violence, aggression and taking an overdose before coming out as trans. We've had a really hard few months and the support from the ladies on this thread has just been irreplaceable. Thanks

Woolly I’ve tried the normal yellow squash, it’s okay but just doesn’t taste like childhood, you know? Grin
I’ll experiment with other types and see. Also there must be a world food type shop near me, I need to look harder.

FashionFoodLaughs · 07/10/2019 15:37

@Ellabella989 your tea sounds lush! I only ran my first half marathon yesterday however I had zero appetite afterwards so just has an egg sandwich from Pret then a bloody salad for tea followed by a few celebratory drinkers. Couldn’t weigh this morning as in a hotel. Had a McDonald’s breakfast this morning but back to normal now. Will be interesting to see how the scales react, according to my Fitbit I burned 4000 calories yesterday Confused

Egghead68 · 07/10/2019 15:44

Congratulations on your half marathon FashionFoodLaughs.

B today: Grapes, pear, figs, yoghurt, few nuts and seeds
L: Sweet potato curry & rice. Blackberries, figs & yoghurt
S: Small muesli/yoghurt bar

All calories (1650) now used up so dinner will be diet soda and an exercise class :(

beforeIhit30 · 07/10/2019 20:39

Hello all and welcome too to recent joiners!

Weighed this morning, started just under 3 weeks ago and 3lb down since then so yay, especially as we had quite a few meals out last week.

Today:
B: hot dog lettuce wraps.
L: low carb mini muffin.
D: spiced saucy pork shoulder steak and mushrooms and celeriac mash.

Mrscog · 07/10/2019 21:27

Well done @beforeihit30! Great work.

I have been good all day...but succumbed to a glass of wine.

beforeIhit30 · 07/10/2019 22:23

Thanks @Mrscog and a bit similar here today! Day fairly good, but was feeling a bit hungry still (didn’t have enough fat today I think) so just had a peanut cocoa fat bomb.

Am now sorted Grin

HollyTheHarrier · 07/10/2019 22:44

@FashionFoodLaughs congrats on your half marathon. My stomach is often a bit delicate after long races as well. I strongly recommend a banana if you like them, they really settle my stomach.

Today good from a calorie perspective but maybe not great nutrition wise. I’ve had 900 calories of good healthy food and 300 calories of latte and chocolate. Ran 9 miles so earned it but should have had something more nutritious. Still floating around 60kg, hoping to drop into the 50s at some point soon!

DownUdderer · 08/10/2019 01:23

I’ve broken my fast early today so I could take some painkillers, my TOTM is bad today. But I actually think it’s been better than last month due to giving up sugary snacks. I’m trying to find the positives to my new eating regime. I feel much better without a carb or sugar hangover ever morning. And I’ve had no migraines since giving up booze.

Tanaqui · 08/10/2019 05:47

Congratulations on the half @FashionFoodLaughs- did you enjoy it? There was an interesting Ted Talk liked on an exercise thread about women needing different food/exercise schedules from men, because of hormones etc- I wondered if any of you runners had any insight? (Obviously caffeine and chocolate are vital fuelling foods @HollyTheHarrier!).

10.1.8 today, and still feel quite full from my mega hotel breakfast on sunday!! Fasting apps- did someone recommend Zero? I wonder if a countdown would be good- I like rules. Have a good day everyone.

cricketmum84 · 08/10/2019 07:22

Yessssss! Broke through the barrier! 19.1 this morning!! Can't wait to get into the 18s!

Plan for today is:
Lots of water and some green tea
L - protein pot of boiled eggs and spinach
D - salad with green "meatballs" in a tomato, basil and garlic sauce
Snacks - greek yoghurt with fruit, banana and a satsuma

Hope everyone has a lovely day!

Weighed myself this morning! I've lost 4lb this week!! I know it's my first week so it's always a bit more but I'm pleased with that 😊.

Start weight: 13st 5.5

Goal weight: 9st 7

Lost so far: 4lb

FashionFoodLaughs · 08/10/2019 08:06

1lb on for me today. Still so sore after the weekend so perhaps my muscles are retaining water?
@Tanaqui yes really, really enjoyed it and looking to do another. That talk is so interesting. All I know is my DH has four large meals a day (2 breakfasts, lunch and dinner), does 4/5 weights workouts a week and struggles to gain weight. It doesn’t seem fair!

7Worfs · 08/10/2019 08:15

Well done on all reported progress Smile

Today I’m 6kg away from my pre-pregnancy weight, but 3 sizes bigger. I must have lost a lot of muscle. Sad

poshme · 08/10/2019 08:26

Did much better yesterday- no snacks apart from some carrots!
No alcohol either, thought I did give in to a small tub of low cal ice cream last night.
Aiming for a good day again today!

Inspired by the before & after photos upthread.

HollyTheHarrier · 08/10/2019 08:41

Well done @cricketmum84 and @MumOfDiamonds 💪🏅great work

@Tanaqui do you have a link to that talk? I would be interested to hear it. It’s not a subject I know a lot about but I think we have all seen the impact hormones have on our weight and appetite so it makes sense that it will impact exercise regime too.

@FashionFoodLaughs I always gain a bit of weight after hard runs too, I think water retention is right. It will settle!

I was 59.9 this morning! Not eaten yet but planning a homemade breakfast muffin followed by soup for lunch. Hoping to consolidate under 60kg having gone up and down a bit lately

FashionFoodLaughs · 08/10/2019 08:44

Hope so @HollyTheHarrier plan for today is....
B - porridge with mashed banana and protein powder
L - poached egg on toast
D - turkey, aubergine and butternut squash chilli nacho bowl

LooseAtTheSeams · 08/10/2019 08:55

Yay! A pound off. It was worth the run and the aching legs!
B: usual oats, yoghurt, blueberries
L: M&S teriyaki microwave thing (under 500 calories and I've only got half an hour for lunch!)
D: spaghetti with tomato sauce and olives

WingDefence · 08/10/2019 08:56

Morning all! Lost 0.6 lb this week which isn’t bad given all I’ve really done is stopped eating/drinking booze in the evenings. Far too much bread this week though and that’s definitely my downfall - I wfh so it’s always there, tempting me to sneak in a little slice! I’m going to try to stop having lunchtime sarnies.

Egghead68 · 08/10/2019 09:23

Well done @cricketmum84, @MumOfDiamonds, @LooseAtTheSeams and @WingDefence.

Plan for today:
B: M&S Cheese Scone + 2 choc Rice Cakes (430)
Planned
L: M&S Salad & Fruit Salad (450)
D:M&S Salad & Fruit Salad (450)
Circuits class

Finding this painful and I'm not even cutting down that much! Hopefully the scales will show a small loss next week.

Onesmallstep67 · 08/10/2019 09:31

Morning, sounds like lots of people have had a good start to the week.
Thank you @MilesJuppIsMyBitch, @cricketmum84 and @Crazzzycat for your kind words and thoughts yesterday.

Thankfully after a sensible eating day and 13k on the exercise bike in 2 stints I am back down to 16 st 8 lbs this morning, so back to October start weight. Let's hope I can make some headway with it in the rest of the week before doctors weigh in on Friday

Have a great day everyone x

Ecci · 08/10/2019 09:32

@cricketmum84 what are green meatballs, they sound interesting?

MiniDoofa · 08/10/2019 09:34

I’m new, just joined the other day. Would really love some advice on how to get started?!! I know what the right things to do are- today I’ve started logging on MFP ( but hate it and find it very tedious). Trying to up exercise and cut back wine (currently school hols so that’s a struggle).
I just feel like I’ve got such a long way to go (20lbs) and it’s so long since I was my goal weight (3years) it all feels a bit far fetched and hopeless!! Sorry to be such a misery I know I have to bite the bulet!

MiniDoofa · 08/10/2019 09:35
