Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Thankyou all. I've been doing 1200cals a day and going for walks weather permitting with dog and baby. Not breastfeeding, and doing small exercises at home but limited as my abs have separated! X

MrsJonesAndMe · 31/07/2019 18:20

@xJune88 I pinged back quite quickly, but never the same. If anything I found the later months harder as the sleepless nights continued and I was back to work FT (MAT leave wasn't very generous at the time) and 2nd time round I was dealing with school runs, SE work and sleepless nights so used a lot of sugar and carbs to get by....and then next thing I knew I was fat!

If you can eat mindfully and nourishing food and look after yourself with physio type exercises then you're already winning. Flowers

Cary2012 · 31/07/2019 18:47

Good evening @BustedDreams and all you lovely others. Hope you've had a good day. Breakfast: Overniight Allbran, Greek yogurt and fruit. Lunch: Wholemeal ham and tomato sandwich. Dinner: Baked sausage, small jacket potato and tons of green veg. Lots of water glugged all day, so better than yesterday. Might have a cheeky slimline g&t later.

BustedDreams · 31/07/2019 19:17

Evening All :). Link for those interested in Insulin Resistance

@beenrumbled I agree olive, it’s much harder to stay on track when home with the children. Eating up their left overs, sharing treats, trips out etc. All adds up. I once read a celebrity mum (can’t remember who) used to squirt washing up liquid on leftovers to stop her picking at them.

@WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa Great loss!

@xJune88 Congratulations on becoming a mum! Your body has done a wondrous and marvellous thing ... it’s created (with a bit of help) and grown a baby human and pushed the baby into the world. First and foremost be kind to yourself and enjoy your baby (said lovingly & sympathetically, not sternly). Are you breast feeding June ?

@Cary2012 good evening to you too :) Sounds a great days nutrition you had yourself there. If your under your intake you could treat yourself to your G&T Grin

Evening all. Had a horrible binge yesterday - eat a whole pizza after eating a tuna salad 😞
Today was half good. Half my 1400 calories have been from chocolate today. However I did go for a 1.5 hour walk. Hopefully haven't put on anymore weight. Still weighing in at 80.6kg

beenrumbled · 31/07/2019 20:21
  • I think I will steal the squirting wash up up liquid idea Grin

Tomorrow I'm off to the Trafford Centre with youngest DS - he wants lunch there so I'm fighting a losing battle I think......we will see!

Considering changing to G&T for an alcoholic drink - I do like my wine and the odd beer - what does everyone else do? I'm cutting right back on alcohol anyway, but would like to be able to have an occasional drink.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/07/2019 20:46

Can I please join?
I'm on an AI holiday until tomorrow and we have eaten and drunk sooooo much.

I did make some good foundations for getting healthier this summer and have joined the local gym on their full package (with my teacher discount!) and I have the month off to be able to fit in plenty of gym/swimming etc.
And I am a member of nutracheck to log my.food.

I just need to get tomorrows travelling day done then I can find out the damage from the holiday and then see what I can do about it.

suchsweetsorrow82 · 31/07/2019 21:10

Great link thanks @BustedDreams. Will have a proper read tomorrow on a sun lounger Shock

First day of holiday! 12,500 steps and 1100 calories which includes 2 Gins! To be fair I didn’t eat breakfast as was flying 🤣. Knackered so we stayed in tonight and ate which helped.

I don’t expect this to last 14 days ! @DrMadelineMaxwell Hopefully not as bad as you’re expecting 🤞🏻

xJune88 · 31/07/2019 21:27

Thankyou @MrsJonesAndMe i really thought I'd 'ping back' and so did everyone else so I'm disappointed I was a size 6-8 before and had no fat tbh, now I'm saggy and flabby and hate my body. @BustedDreams I breastfed for 3 weeks but couldn't keep up with her demands and it was effecting my mental health so unfortunately had to go to formula. I had a very traumatic birth 23hrs labour to 10cm then 2 hours pushing and had emcs she was 8.6lbs and got taken to nicu with suspected sepsis whilst I was on my numbed from spinal. Have lost 2 babies before too so I'm struggling. I feel very blessed but struggling with my body atm. But will keep trying one day at a time xx

Oysterbabe · 31/07/2019 21:34

Checking in. Yesterday was not great. I fasted all day but then FIL came for dinner at short notice and wouldn't have liked what I had planned. We ended up getting fish and chips Blush I would estimate that I ate eleventy billion tonnes of chips. Fasted today and had chorizo, sweetcorn and spinach rissoto for dinner. It was so delicious I could have eaten it twice over. Final fast of the week tomorrow then facing the scales Friday morning. I don't have high hopes.

MorgenMuffel · 31/07/2019 21:52

@busted you'll be pleased to hear I didn't make a scene at the hospital yesterday and all my clothes remained on Grin they only told me my bmi so will join in on the Thurs weigh in. Will be 5 weeks till hol so have a 10lb target Shock

BustedDreams · 31/07/2019 22:01

@xJune88 bless you. You have had a very hard time of it, traumatic. Condolences for your tragic losses. I can imagine things are so very difficult for you. Perhaps you’re still grieving your babies too. You might also be struggling emotionally as weight/shape is usually something we can control with our diet. However, you have had such traumatic experiences with your losses and the birth of your baby sounds like it was very very difficult and raised other challenges. Plus your hormones will be all imbalanced and up and down

Do you feel you missed precious time bonding with your new born as you were incapacitated whilst they were in. Sending you hugs.

@beenrumbled yes it could help! Grin

@lboogy I know how it feels to be disappointed in yourself when falling off the wagon. It was only a little tumble and you’ve counteracted most of it with you hike! Get back up here with the rest of us, it’s a lovely ride!

Welcome @DrMadelineMaxwell of course you can join. This is a great group of supportive ladies.

@suchsweetsorrow82 Enjoy your holiday! Where are you (sorry if you’ve already said up thread). You’ve still fitted in more exercise than I have today, not bad to say you’re on your holidays!

@MorgenMuffel that’s good to know. We wouldn’t want the nurses coming over unnecessary Grin

Ended up getting a Chinese takeaway and split a crispy beef with my husband and had a hot and sour chicken soup. Where I'm OMAD I don't feel too bad about it but reckon I'll retain water tomorrow!

Ihatesundays · 31/07/2019 22:29

Went out for lunch for fancy burger and wasn’t going to eat anything else - but wanting to start 16:8 so needed to eat something tonight so had toast and yoghurt.

DrMadelineMaxwell · 31/07/2019 22:52

What approaches to losing the weight are people taking? ( Late to join the thread).

I'm a calorie counter usually and will use nutracheck which is a uk app like myfitnesspal.

Foreverlexicon · 01/08/2019 06:07

Yesterday turned out to be a bit of a treat day as I did a food shop and treated myself to a treat bag of maltesers.
Feeling very frugal - spent £33 and apart from fruit and milk, that should be it for the month 😮 meals won’t be as healthy as they could be due to this but needs must for this month!

Weighed in at 164.6 so up a bit from yesterday but that’s how it goes.
I’m about to go for a run, about 4km.
Food for today;
Wholrmeal waffle with peanut butter and jam
Hairy dieters pasty, crisps and fruit

Popping to a friends for dinner which will be vegetarian Thai green curry

I’d like to get under 160 this month and increase my running distances. I’ve realised if I run today I have run every month for the last year! I seem to of accidentally formed a habit. But I’ve been a bit lazy and sticking to quick 3/4km before work ones so I’m aiming to increase this and once I’m back on shifts and have a bit more time, get it to 10km once a week.
My goal will just to make healthy choices this month as trying too hard nesses up my head! We shall see what happens!

chutneypig · 01/08/2019 06:10

61.4 kg for me this morning - a good start to keep me focussed this month.

I use MFP @DrMadelineMaxwell for calorie counting and aim for 1500 calories a day. Days I run I’ll have more. I’m just off now for a six mile run, so will add on a extra 300 or so. I don’t eat it all back but I need some or I’ll binge in the evening.

Laura221 · 01/08/2019 06:16

rushka · 01/08/2019 07:10

Please may I join? My eating is out of control. I would like to lose 8kg to get back to the top of my usual range - I put on this weight over the past year due to a job I found stressful but now I feel so down on myself I just keep eating! I think it’s because I want to see results within a day and feel so disheartened by how long it will take then I just give up, plus i’ve ingrained the habit now of inhaling food as soon as ion as I feel tired or overwhelmed, which I need to unlearn. I am going to aim to record what I eat, and do the ‘no s’ - no snacks, sugar, seconds. Plus no alcohol. Have great days!

beenrumbled · 01/08/2019 07:24

Morning everyone. I love how supportive this thread is.

@xJune88 is still very early days and a huge adjustment, things will get better, honestly.

Porridge and berries again for breakfast, and planning for chicken and salad for tea.

I'm going to try to make good choices at lunch - we will see.

On the plus side as we will be walking a lot I should get my steps in.

MrsJonesAndMe · 01/08/2019 07:56

Weigh in officially at 81kg which means I'm up 1/2kg since Monday, but really I only got into the swing of things yesterday so not going to focus on that.

Was very controlled (for me) yesterday. 3x meals and 3x snacks with only one of those containing chocolate. Smashed the 5 a day and lots of water. No cola for 5 days now too. Daily yoga too.

Have a good day all. Walk with double buggy planned, food planned so just need to stick to it!

BustedDreams · 01/08/2019 08:04

Happy 1st August or Yorkshire Day if in Yorkshire.

Thank you for all making July the success it was. Looking back over the past month we can see what we can achieve when we eat healthily, watch portions, keep mindful, reduce sugars, move a bit, keep hydrated, be in the right head space etc.

I myself reach a personal milestone that I hadn’t been able to cross for years. I got below 10 stone (5ft). Granted I’m still overweight and have a way to go. But I know I can do it. And you can too.

That’s not to say there won’t be bumps along the way. Who hasn’t fallen off the wagon at times. We all have. It’s even harder now schools and people going on holidays. The secret is not letting a bad meal spoil the day, letting a day spoil the week, then ultimately thinking f*@# it and graze like a Dairy Cow until you’re destroyed your own self esteem and convinced yourself you’re useless and not worth it. You are worth it.

People I’m sure will appreciate if you all keep posting your stories, experiences or anything you’d like to share that could motivate the group. You were great in July. Let’s stay motivated and have an Awesome August.

Hello everyone! I'm signing in for the August effort. Currently 12st 7lbs after a successful month in July. There's a long way to go to my target of 10stone, but 7lbs a month makes it feel achievable. I'm eating loads of veg and cutting out biscuits and other crap (not easy as I'm on mat leave and tend to turn to food when bored/stressed). And I've cut way down on alcohol, anything more than a small glass of wine makes me feel horrible the next day. I'm also exercising as often as possible with short but regular home workouts. Good luck to you all, hoping for a successful August!
