Lose 7lbs in August

Following on from the July thread for those who wish to carry on and for new joiners alike.

Ive been inspired by the ladies who posted on the July thread. There have been some awesome losses.

Not quite the end of the month and I’ve achieved my July goal of getting below the elusive 140lbs. As of this morning I was 139.6lbs, bmi 27.3. Down from 145.9lbs, bmi 28.5.

I’m doing a lower carb Mediterranean diet. Plenty of veg, some berries, salad, olive oil, butter, cream, fish, chicken and some red meat. Occasionally I will have whole grain rice and gluten free pasta (good for my micro biome). I rarely drink alcohol. Chocolate can be my downfall Grin. I naturally only want to eat twice a day. I’ve read that intermittent fasting can be beneficial in the battle of the bulge as well as keeping blood sugars in check.

How do you intend to lose?

Any tips you’d like to share?

My tips are drink plenty of water and be mindful of portion sizes.

Weighing in and I'm 1.2lbs off this morning. That's more like it!

BustedDreams · 03/08/2019 07:23

Good Morning Lovelies

@cheesenpickles that is a fantastic milestone! Get you 😬. Well done on your 24hr fast. Impressive. I normally do 18-20 hour ones with my intermittent fasting/time restricted eating. It’s a normal habit for me as genuinely can’t face food pre noon. Shimmy away, you deserve it!

@MrsJonesAndMe you’re welcome 😊Planning in advance is a good habit. Nonetheless if I was in a coffee shop I’d find it hard to not have a coffee with cream. I love my joe. I’ve never tried their chocolate drink.

@dancingmom 😬

@galvantula welcome to the collective 😊. Great support to be had here. Weld one on your 3stone weight loss. That’s my ultimate goal. Lost 2st, 1st to go.

@RiddleyW Well done on chucking the pizza out of temptations way! Michael Moseley admitted to chucking stuff in the bin, only to retrieve it hours later!

@Crayolaaa yes it is calorific, but not carb heavy. If on a low calorie diet, it can eat up to many of your allowance. For a sandwich mustard is quite low and you only a need a bit for taste.

@rushka how disappointing for you all. Well done in managing intake overall. It’s good to be mindful & intuitive. Yes I agree stress can sabotage any good intentions food wise.

@Cary2012 sounds like a great days food you had. I agree, hummus is very calorific but very tasty.

@FiveShelties thank you. I think they had spammed a lot of boards. The numpty bot did it!

Off out today food shopping, walking dogs and generally trying to stay active. Would like 10k steps in today. Not a lot in people’s book but I always feel proud if I achieve it.

Whatever you’re doing have a great Saturday!

Hello, I am new to mums net, am older (kids all grown and gone) struggling with losing weight and hoping not too old to join. Eldest son getting married in 9 weeks, lost 2 stone two years ago and kept it off but not a pound since, I really really would like to lose a stone in next 9 weeks, nothing working - so stuck. Done it all slimming world, low carb, 5:2

AngelaScandal · 03/08/2019 07:53

Weight loss is incredibly slow here - despite a good week food wise and running x 3 just a 1lb loss.

Somuchroom · 03/08/2019 08:03

My weigh in day is Monday but had a sneaky weigh in today and I’ve gained a lbs!! I’ve stuck to my calories religiously and also exercised everyday so a little bit annoyed. I’m not going to do what I would have in the past and give up with a slab of chocolate, I’m going to use this disappointment to step it up a gear with the exercise. And also shave an additional 100 calories off a day.
Will go for an uphill forest walk pushing the buggy and a 30 min YouTube work out today.

@cheesenpickles well done on your loss. I’m very tempted to try a 24 hour fast, do you just drink water? May attempt a 20 hour one first!

cheesenpickles · 03/08/2019 08:13

Water and black coffee keeps me going. Working from home helps as nobody offers me cake. I've been doing 18:6 pretty consistently since the beginning of June but finding my appetite is getting less and less now. Yesterday I just wasn't hungry so just kept going. I think I could probably do one of those extended fasts people talk about but my dh would freak. The main thing was ditching all the refined sugar and carbs where possible (though I did have a few haribo last night Grin) I'm trying to keep as close to keto as possible but mainly keeping carbs sub 60g a day which has totally curved my hunger.

Beforehand we'd demolish dinner then eat a tube of Pringles, a large pack of sweets and a giant chocolate bar, washed down with a litre of full fat coke in an evening so carbs were def my downfall. Not to mention milky coffee with sugar. Black coffee had been a revelation.

cheesenpickles · 03/08/2019 08:14

Also, if I get hungry I just break fast my fast though never before 16 hours. Focusing on having a really nice meal of what I want when I'm done helps a lot as well. I'm 7 days smoke free as well. Woohoo!

MrsJonesAndMe · 03/08/2019 08:21

Moring all

welcome to the new joiners!

We are out today so hoping to get in a nice walk and yoga tonight.

Food wise, I'm going to keep off food till about 10:30 - that'll be 15.5 hours.
Taking a salad for lunch and doing a roast dinner for tea. Have strawberries and FF yog and nuts to snack on should the munchies occur oh and some pop corn I bought but haven't touched... Yeah me!

dancingmom · 03/08/2019 08:21

No loss today which is a bit annoying. Especially as waking up to wee in middle of night at the moment! God the excessive weeing on keto is ridiculous. @cheesenpickles well done - I'm trying to stick to 20g a day but don't always manage it. Pretty tough!

@BustedDreams 10K goal is good going I think! Will try today too- kids going out with my DH so might do a super long dog walk.

Have a good day all Smile

suchsweetsorrow82 · 03/08/2019 08:26

Welcome @Vixfitz36. I’m sure as I’m aware there’s no age limit!

@Somuchroom same Sad. Such a rubbish feeling isn’t it. Maybe we’re just holding water or something 🤣

I know I’m on holiday but I’ve ran every day and done at least 15,000 steps. Stuck to 2 alcoholic drinks every day (gin and low calorie mixer + ONE yes ONE small wine!). Egg whites for breakfast, salads for lunch, meat and veg for dinner no dressings etc and I’ve put on 1lb! I’ve got the hump now Angry

Wow @cheeseenpickles what a turn around! I’m going to look at doing some version of fasting when I return.

A loss is still a loss, well done @Boscoismyspiritanimal

cheesenpickles · 03/08/2019 09:09

@suchsweetsorrow82 that'll either be temporary or building muscle I reckon. Are you using a tape measure as well at all? Also, imagine how much you could have gained if you thought "fuck it" Grin

Hormones are also a huge factor and as well as calories in v calories out. Even your mood can affect it!

I went away for a night last week and although I stuck to my fasting time and didn't go mad with carbs and booze, I came back about 2lbs heavier which has now dropped off. I daily weigh but definitely look at the numbers overall than day to day, it's tricky to do sometimes but I like the accountability of it.

I was wondering, what people's overall goal weight and height is? I've got a number in my head but when I talk to people they think it's too low, even though it's well within my healthy weight range. I think people are so used to seeing me "big" they've forgotten I've actually got a tiny bone structure!

Somuchroom · 03/08/2019 09:25

@suchsweetsorrow82 yeah it’s a rubbish feeling. I’m sulking right now. I’m going to attempt to post a link that might explain things for when we don’t see results despite sticking to our plans...

I hope that worked? It explains how women may find loosing weight difficult.

@cheesenpickles I am 5ft 3in. My overall aim is 8st 6lbs. I was this weight at the beginning of the year and I felt so comfortable with myself and looked good in size 8. I had a lot of negative comments from my family (who are all over weight) who felt I had lost too much. I was a normal bmi at this weight.

cheesenpickles · 03/08/2019 09:32

I'm 5'6" and aiming for 8 stone 6 as well. Having been 15 stone 5 at my absolute heaviest (I was four weeks pp) people are saying I'd look wrong at this weight. However, up until I met my DH at 23, I actually weighed 7 stone! I know I'll never be that weight again and ten years and two kids will have made a difference but I know that my body is "meant" to be quite small. My mum was a mere 6 stone and dinky (though I had 4" of height on her) and my sister is about 8 as well.

rushka · 03/08/2019 09:49

I know 1lb doesn’t feel like much but it’s really good. If that becomes a steady rate over time then you’ll get there, and be doing it in a way you can maintain afterwards. And often then there’s a sudden leap. Keep going!
I am on Day 3! I had quite a substantial breakfast - yoghurt, berries & all-bran like yesterday but then also peanut butter (less than previously) on wholemeal toast with sliced banana. It all came in at 600 calories, and so i’m going to aim for 1600 today, which feels do-able.
I’ve walked the dog, and now need to get the house in order after a very hectic week so that might take all day!! Happy Saturday Smile

rushka · 03/08/2019 09:52

Oh, my 1lb comment was to @Boscoismyspiritanimal but in the meantime loads of others posted so it’s a bit late in the feed!

Triceratopmeup · 03/08/2019 10:01

Good morning everyone, or is it! Had a sneaky jump onto the scales this morning to find I've gained 1.5lbs! Angry Gutted, as I've exercised everyday this week, stuck to my 1200cals every day & not touched a drop of alcohol!!

Oysterbabe · 03/08/2019 10:12

Morning! Just back from an 8 mile run. I'm doing a half in the spring so building up very slowly. About to make poached eggs and fresh coffee :)
Staying at the Inlaws tonight and probably going to the pub so the rest of the day will be less healthy.

Cary2012 · 03/08/2019 10:16

Hi @Vixfitz36, I hope there's no upper age limit - I'm late 50s! Grin I now calorie count and am losing about 2lbs a week on 1200 and after the first couple of weeks when I wanted to chew my arm off,my appetite has really diminished. I go lowish carb, but not enough to get into ketosis and I've cut out processed food, white carbs and sugar. I have lost loads of weight in the past: in the 80s, over 3 stone in 16 weeks on Rosemary Conley's Hip and Thigh diet, which was low fat. Then 15 years ago I did Atkins, which completely amazed me, the weight fell off really quickly, and I lost 2 stone in 2 months. Great, but I felt so lethargic and was very constipated Blush all the time. So this time round I considered Slimming World, but looking online I think I would struggle with the way they 'syn' food - an avocado is more than a curly wurly for example. I don't want a bloody curly wurly! Rubbish sugar no-nourishment food is what got me here in the first place! And I know I could use my syns for the healthy avocado instead, but I refuse to see avocado as a syn in the first place! So I calorie count, because this time I don't want to regain, like I did on a low fat, when I started eating it again, and on Atkins when I introduced carbs again. When I hit target I shall increase my calories slowly until I maintain. Good luck. Have a great day all.

StepAwayFromTheChoc · 03/08/2019 10:18

Hi everyone, can I join?
I started intermittent fasting on tuesday sticking to 16:8 so just lunch and tea each day with piece of fruit or small bag of popcorn if needed in the afternoon but no evening snacks which has always been my downfall! So far so good, been a lot easier than I expected so I'm going to attempt proper fast days next week I think.
I'm 5ft3 and weigh just over 12 stone so need to lose 2 stone to get the top of my healthy bmi range so feels like a long way to go but I need to stick to it this time for health reasons so hopefully that will really motivate me.
I don't have any scales, I only know my weight from a hospital appointment so I'm not going to weight weekly, just go off clothes feeling looser (hopefully!) And then weigh at the end of the summer holidays.

galvantula · 03/08/2019 10:52

Thanks for the welcome :)

I weighed myself today and despite a week and a half of over indulgence on holiday, I'm still at 62kg/9st 11. (I'm just under 5ft 4)

My aim has always been set at 56kg/8st 12lb. I've been as low as 58kg, but keep messing it up. 😳

I do love food (and wine and beer) too much.

I'm glad I've stopped myself before the comfort eating cycle got worse, feeling more positive today.

I'm back to logging properly too, I'd given up a bit due to laziness of logging while eating out while away and cos I knew I was eating too much.

I find I have a week every month where I'm ravenously hungry, I'm going to try to snack on sugar free sweets (I like the various Aldi ones) or go for apples if I get really hungry, rather than reaching for more calorific options. 👍

WeKnowFrogsGoShaLaLaLaLa · 03/08/2019 11:00

Good Morning all, checking in to take ownership of my very bad day yesterday. Had Pizza Hut for lunch and chippy for tea. I swear since I started slimming world Ive had more meals out planned than ever before. Previously I've made good choices but yesterday I simply did not. And my body felt really really crappy for it. Lesson learnt.

Weigh in is Monday evening so I shall be doing three SP days between now and then - basically limited carbs, mostly veg and protein, to try and minimise the damage. I only need 1/2lb loss to get my half stone certificate and I would be absolutely over the moon with that.

Due to an accident I am very limited in the exercise I can do, but in July I signed up to race at your pace and cycled 25miles over the month on my stationary bike. Got my medal! Have signed up to do 50 miles in August so I will do a bit towards that this afternoon too. Annoyingly my bike measures in KMs so I have a target of 82kms for the month.

Today -

B - won't bother as nearly lunchtime.

L - chicken salad

D - have a gammon cooking in the slow cooker, I'm going to have it with eggs and mushrooms. Yum.

Have a fantastic weekend everyone. 😊

FiveShelties · 03/08/2019 11:02

@Vixfitz36 hope there is no age limit as I am 62 and have no children! No idea what I am doing on a weight loss board on MumsNet! Grin

MarvelMum3 · 03/08/2019 11:21

So many posts from yesterday I don't have time to reply to all you lovely ladies. However, so many of you are doing AWESOME and you should feel awesome. And those of you that have had bad days? You're owning it and moving own - also awesome!

I FINALLY MANAGED TO WEIGHT IN Grin So I started my pregnancy at 127kg and yesterday I was... 121.3Kg!

I managed to have a good day yesterday, the friend that visited me brought food (god this should be mandatory when visiting anyone with a newborn!) and so we had pasta bake for lunch and then a few mini brownies over a cup of tea. And then I had a strange dinner of crumpets and slimming world 'mac and greens' ready meal. So even though I didn't manage to fast yesterday and had a few treats I did a quick totting up of calories and that was about 2000 - which is exactly where I should be eating so that was nice!

Had a better night with baby as well!! She actually managed to sleep last night for four hours in her crib (winning) and then another four hours in my arms (reflux makes her clingy when she's not feeling well) but this is an improvement of the 6-8 hours of just being awake and in pain we've had! But despite that the mini brownies were calling me and I ended up eating four whilst watching Beauty and the Beast rocking baby last night Blush

But we have a healthy food shop coming in today (thank god for online delivery) and I am going to batch cook some chilli for lunches when OH goes back to work. So the plan is tuna pasta for lunch. And then low fat sausages and low fat chips for dinner with some veggies. And probably some banana toast for a snack when I inventively get hungry around 4! Baby is currently pretty fussy so I also imagine there are going to be a couple of walks in the works today - or at the very least pacing around my house!

Cary2012 · 03/08/2019 11:40

@MarvelMum3, well done that's brilliant! Smile

cheesenpickles · 03/08/2019 12:00

That's brilliant @MarvelMum3. Any of the people with babies I definitely recommend getting a Fitbit or Apple Watch or something. When I had my second baby I was at my heaviest (nearly 16 stone) and got a Fitbit. Really encouraged me to put the kids in the pushchair and get out and about, even just at a really slow pace. Now my youngest is 2 and I'm totally lost without it. I swear it's had as much impact on me losing weight over the period as changing my diet as well.
