I have done 5 days at 800 cals and moved not one pound! So demoralising.

Generally have been eating the following each day:

B: vegetable juice such as cucumber or celery
L: slice of chicken with about half a cup full of green salad/ mixed veg
D: A Greek yogurt 0% fat OR a two egg cheese omelette

SN: a small glass of red wine
packet of crisps.

All come under 800 cals and low carb too I think.
Any advice??? Feeling very tempted to eat now Cake

How much weight do you have to lose? I agree that if you’ve stuck to 800 calories for 5 days you would expect to have lost something. Have you logged all your food in an app like MyFitnessPal.

Make sure you’re drinking enough water.

Both wine and crisps are full of carbs. Maybe try to replace these with something else - do you like pork scratchings? Or try raspberries with cream. Sparkling water with Cold Infuse bags are nice.

If you head over to the fasting section, there are several threads about the blood sugar diet, Fast800 etc with lots of knowledgeable people.

There have been some amazing successes on this thread!

Fast800 thread

Good luck!

Frecklesonmyarm · 09/03/2019 14:45

I found the same. I have been sticking to 1200 calories and eating pretty much what I want. And lost an average of 2.5lbs per week.

Did the fast 800 for 3 weeks and lost half a lbs a week, even though I was doing more walking. Upped my steps from around 8000 a day to 12000 I think it works for some people, but didn't seem to work for me.

zonkin · 09/03/2019 14:47

Drop the wine and crisps. More chicken and green salad/mixed veg.

0% yoghurt not enough for dinner. Either omelette or another protein and veg meal

Log everything honestly as another person suggested using MyFitnessPAl

MIdgebabe · 09/03/2019 14:48

Doesn’t your weight vary by more than a pound depending on water/salt/ hormones/poo state ? TRy to only weigh yourself once a month

Are you weighing everything? Sounds less than 800 which makes me wonder if there isn’t some self sabotage?
Small red 100
Small crisps 100
2eggs 200
Cheese 200
1 chicken slice 50
I woulddny count celery, cucumber or green salad

So at less than 800 for five days , you would also subconsciously decrease activity levels?

SlinkyDinkyDoo · 09/03/2019 14:54

It's the wine!

OnlyYellowRoses · 09/03/2019 14:57

Are you exercising too?

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 15:00

Please not the wine!! I don't exercise however I am in a mildly active job on my feet all day. I don't understand why the wine would sabotage as it's under the calorie limit.

OP posts:
fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 15:01

Maybe I should aim for 1200 this week and see what happens.

Tomtontom · 09/03/2019 15:05

Diet isn't just about limiting calories. You still need to nourish your body by eating a balanced diet. Crisps and wine are fine as a treat but not everyday and not as a third of your daily intake!

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 15:20

Yes I see. I find it easier to diet with a treat to keep going. Am going to remove it this week and see what happens.

OP posts:
ideasofmarch · 09/03/2019 15:28

I can lose half a stone in a week if I put my mind to it (which isn't often, admittedly). I don't drink, so I don't have that to cut out, I just drop the four C's.

Cheese.
Chocolate.
Crisps.
Cake.

You need to severely up your intake of veg/salad as well, which will help to fill you up, and will also help your digestive system which is probably really sluggish.

AnnaMagnani · 09/03/2019 15:31

It is much easier if you drop the wine and the crisps sorry

I am 2 months into Fast 800 and have gone off to do something a bit more Mediterranean Diet but am still v low carbs and practically no sugar. Have lost 17 lbs and still losing.

Quitting the crisps and the wine altogether has made me think differently about 'treats' altogether - do I need one every day? No, not really. I know it sounds really tedious but food does taste better and I've discovered the natural tastes of real food and now find it v easy to stick to 1-1200 calories as I'm full. If you eat a lot of veg or fruit, you are full, if you eat crisps or wine, you aren't.

Stick with it, the first 2-3 weeks are the worst.

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 16:00

I do log every food with MFP so weight etc is all correct. I'm going to clean up the diet a bit then and see if pounds budge this week. I only have to look at food and gain weight. I'm short and every bit shows.

Thank you to everyone for your advice

Wine is pure sugar and crisps are empty calories.

I'd drop those and replace with veg!

randomlygenorated · 09/03/2019 17:49

As previous posters have said how much do you have to lose?

While I agree that crisps and wine are 'empty calories' I don't necessarily agree that you need to cut them, it sounds like a pretty miserable diet to me and if what gets you through is a bag of crisps and a glass of wine at the end of the day then I don't really see an issue with it.

The general consensus is it takes a deficit of 3000 calories to lose a pound, obviously that's dependent on how many calories your body needs to maintain itself through a day. I'd be very surprised if 800 calories was maintaining you!

There's a website I don't know the name of where you enter some information and it tells you about what calories your body uses a day and from this you can work out how many you need to lose weight

But honestly I would suggest aiming more for the 1000 calorie mark and sticking with it for a few weeks, losing weight is not an exact science, your body changes through the month and things like hormones and such can really influence your weight

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 19:03

Thank you for taking the time to write. I feel more inspired, it is a pretty miserable diet but I don't get much time for myself so it needs to be quick and easy.

Agree with PP's. On 800 cals you should definitely see some results. I have been doing fast 800 for 2 months (with occasional treats) and have lost 26 lbs. I agree that wine and crisps everyday will be sabotaging you efforts. You could eat a lot more proper food for your 800 cals and it wouldn't seem as if you were denying yourself so much. Try googling some of the fast 800 recipies- the mozerella chicken is especially tasty. I make these meals for the whole family but add pasta, for example, to everyone else's.

Also, you should try swapping your 0% fat yogurt for a full fat one - it should leave you feeling more full and probably has far fewer carbs. Same for the cheese if you are using a reduced fat one. Try adding some berries with the yogurt too. You really need to up your (fruit and) veg intake but be wary if fruits as they can be really high in sugar (berries are your friends, apples aren't too bad either).

Try to increase your activity level. I have a fit bit and I've increased my steps from 13k to 17k per day, just by walking a longer way round etc in my daily routine. Very rarely do I go for a walk with no other purpose. It really makes a difference to the weight loss.

Also you could consider time restricted eating- whereby you narrow your 'eating window' for example, only eat between 10am and 6 pm each day. I try to stick to this but will have breakfast if I'm really hungry.

Hope this helps.

FamilyOfAliens · 10/03/2019 08:17

Oh OP, that diet sounds woeful.

I would become completely obsessed with food if that was all I ate.

If you’re ok with the long game, you can eat more and enjoy what you’re eating. I’ve lost 3st 4lb in a year on 1550 calls with MFP. Last night I had a glass of wine and a G&T! But I’m vegetarian so I eat loads of veg anyway. I couldn’t last a year on what you’re eating - I’d be miserable.

Frecklesonmyarm · 10/03/2019 08:19

I woildnd9u le check my fitness pal. It's not always correct as you can add things yourself. I have come across loads that arent accurate and under estimate calories.

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 10/03/2019 09:53

Okay so trying to work out new diet at 800 cals.

Cucumber/celery juice for breakfast. 50 cals
Morning snack banana 100 cals
Chicken and salad for lunch. 200 cals
Cheese omelette with veg for dinner. 200 cals/ or stir fried prawn and veggie dish
Greek yogurt and berries for pud. 150 cals

Snack: cappucino 60 cals/ diet hot chocolate 40 cals

I do weigh food and am tracking it on MFP. I do seem to take a long time to shift weight, always have.

5 days isn't very long! How much have you got to lose op? How tall are you and what do you weigh?

OwlinaTree · 10/03/2019 11:16

That diet sounds awful sorry. How do you have any energy on that? I would be the most awful person to live with ever if all I ate was a tiny bit of chicken, veg and a yoghurt all day.

Do you have a lot to lose or are you normal BMI wanting to lose a bit more? What are your stats, maybe we can advise better.

I'm BMI 22 and have lost just over 3st. It wasn't overnight, took around 15 months, but it's stayed off, I fluctuate of course. I follow slimming world, which I know isn't mega popular on here, but you can eat to your appetite.
