fatneedtobelighterhelp · 09/03/2019 13:27

I have done 5 days at 800 cals and moved not one pound! So demoralising.

Generally have been eating the following each day:

B: vegetable juice such as cucumber or celery
L: slice of chicken with about half a cup full of green salad/ mixed veg
D: A Greek yogurt 0% fat OR a two egg cheese omelette

SN: a small glass of red wine
packet of crisps.

All come under 800 cals and low carb too I think.
Any advice??? Feeling very tempted to eat now Cake

yes much more water and deffo not diet soda. cut that straight out.

are u putting any sauces / mayo/oil/salad cream out your meals?

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 17:56

Some mayonnaise on the chicken or fish sometimes but all logged on MFP.

I don't know how you're measuring it bit things like that could be 100 calories extra or 300 if u squeeze the bottle for an extra couple of seconds, so really need to be tight on the measurements/weighing of extras like sauces.

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:01

I'm measuring according to MFP and using scales.

I feel your pain OP. I've been eating between 800 and 1,000 a day for 2 weeks now and not shifted a pound of fat.

How long do you have to persevere to start losing actual fat?

peeblet · 13/03/2019 18:06

ok next thought. did u have a blow out few days before you started the diet and so on a weekly total you still have had quite a lot of calories. or are you having a cheat meal /meals at weekends which could be wiping out all your deficit ?

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:07

Oh no I am so disheartened to hear than nightsky. I can't imagine how peeved I'm going to be after two weeks...
Are you keeping on with it? Do you think it's age-related? I've just turned 50 and menopausal.

OP posts:
fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:09

I ate slightly more last weekend, Sat & Sun, 1200 max. I was majorly disappointed not to have lost anything after a week and felt like I had nothing to lose after that!

OP posts:
fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:10

I will stick to 800 cals this weekend completely. It's just hard when nothing shifts...

OP posts:
fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:11

Nightsky, I am so sorry to hear that you are in the same boat. What do you eat?

I put your height and weight into a tdee calculator. Guessed that you had an office job for activity and it came up with a TDEE (total daily expenditure) of 1400 calories. So at 800 calories a day it would take 6 days to lose a pound.

However a pound loss can be easily masked by natural water fluctuations that happen to everyone, as well as needing a poo or where you are in monthly cycle.

So I think you need to be patient and carry on and wait. Being short is tough because your margin for error is so small.

When you see massive losses, it’s usually from people who have much more to lose than you, who are taller, and very often it’s men who have a significant hormonal advantage over women when it comes to weight loss.

My trainer says that with men, weight loss shows up straight away, but with women it can be 2 or 3 weeks before you see results of the weeks before.

So hang in there, be patient and you should see results.

Thequaffle · 13/03/2019 18:15

800 cals is way too low and your body will do everything it can to hold onto every calories because it thinks you’re slowly starving.
Overall calories in < calories out should create weight loss BUT calories from sugar and alcohol trigger a process in your body that helps to make new fat stores.
I’ve tried every diet under the sun and the only one that worked was eating healthy, non processed food, cutting out alcohol and all sugar and junk, cooking from scratch and doing a HIIT workout 4/5 times a week. I lost 1.5 stone in 3 months and it was all fat.

thenightsky · 13/03/2019 18:17

I think its age related with me (late 50s).

People often say... its taken a long while to put that weight on, so obviously its going to take a long time to lose it'. But I've put my extra stone on in a mere two week lead up to Christmas!

Frenchmontana · 13/03/2019 18:18

Thequaffle alotbof what you have posted has now been debunked.

HappyBumbleBee · 13/03/2019 18:19

Drink plenty of water - if you don't drink enough your body won't flush out what it needs to.
Also, if you've suddenly gone from a very high calorie to very low calorie diet your body needs time to adjust and will coping into fat thinking it's being starved (mind off survival mode) - everyone is different in how long this can happen but sometimes a couple of weeks.
I'm doing low carb high protein diet now after years of trying any and every other diet. I eat nothing that grows below the ground (high carb) and plenty of dairy and meat. Limiting carbs to 200g a day is considered low carb but I try and limit my carb to around 150 tops.
It'll also make a big difference if you only need to lose a small amount of weight and can take longer for your body to adapt to the changes x

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 13/03/2019 18:24

Thank you so much for all advice, so much appreciated. I will keep you posted...

Being short, fat and 50 is just making me so down. All your help is great,, thank you.

Thequaffle · 13/03/2019 18:32

Frenchmontana, do you mean the intermittent low cal / fasting stuff? I know that has its benefits, but where someone has some decent weight to drop, starting off on such a low calories leaves nothing to cut down when you hit a plateau.

Thequaffle · 13/03/2019 18:34

OP - one thought that used to get me through was this: I didn’t put this weight on in a single week / month, so it’s not going to come off in a week / month. It helped me a lot when I was feeling frustrated that the scale wasn’t moving and I was about to reach for chocolate! Good luck, you can do it!!!

Frenchmontana · 13/03/2019 18:36

Thequaffle no I mean 'starvation mode'and that you would need to drop calories again to break through a plateau.

Low calorie/fasting doesnt make your body hold on to fat and scared to let it go. Players can happen for all sorts of reasons. Dropping calories again, isnt required

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 14/03/2019 16:59

Scales still not budged this morning... Confused

OP posts:
StellaRockafella · 16/03/2019 05:32

You definitely need to drink way more water - at least 8 glasses a day and ditch the hot chocolate. No diet drinks or anything labelled diet either. I'd remove the banana too and stick to berries if you're going to eat fruit. Are you eating enough 'good' fats like olive oil and avocado?

However, as you said, you're in your 50s and menopausal, so this is majorly inhibiting your ability to lose weight. You just need to keep going and the weight will start to shift albeit it very slowly.

16:8 intermittent fasting will absolutely be worth incorporating too.

Good luck OP.

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 16/03/2019 09:35

Thank you StellaRockafella. I have actually lost one pound today.
I can't do a diet with fasting as I have fainted in the past. I find it easier to stick with eating small amounts.

thenightsky · 16/03/2019 10:20

Hi again OP. I got weighed yesterday and amazingly I've lost 3lb. This is sticking to a rigid 800 to 900 calories a day and no alcohol at all.

I'm out with mates tonight which involved a Chinese meal and lots of alcohol. I bet any money it will put 5lb on me overnight.

fatneedtobelighterhelp · 16/03/2019 10:36

That's encouraging, well done Nightsky. I guess the Peking duck and pancakes might be quite low cal??? No idea but I'm sure there are options.
