Hi everyone!

I’m starting a VLCD (Slim and Save) on 1st Jan and wondering is anyone starting too? Or Cambridge, Exabte etc and maybe we could keep each other motivated?

I’m really annoyed I’ve had to go for a “work lunch” which involved eating real food. I couldn’t avoid it and I have another one later this month. I managed to find something on the menu where I could subtly segregate the carbs and not eat them so I reckon I’ve eaten 430 calories and about 5g of carbs. Massively feel like I’m going to go backwards now, I was already losing nothing and that was sticking to the plan religiously! I’m so jealous of all of you lot losing so much so quickly, I weighed this morning and still the same (having lost an initial 7lbs). I’m on day 12 now! Confused

Kittensgalore · 08/01/2019 15:12

That is rubbish Pitapotamus, it must feel really disheartening. Do you feel any better for it though, are any of your clothes less snug? I bet you will be losing in terms of measurements even if the scales aren't moving. And 400 calories of low carb food won't hurt, might even have helped, you never know.

Kittensgalore · 08/01/2019 15:15

I'm back at work today and managing ok, there was a run to the baked tattie shop at lunchtime that I had to turn down. I had my Dahl pot instead and felt very proud of myself. Trying to get the water intake up and was busy this morning so that flew by.

Welcome to all the newcomers, the more the merrier, hope everyone is doing ok today.

Anyone else keep on buying new products 'just to try' even though they already have a cupboard full to get through?!

BishopBrennansArse · 08/01/2019 15:36

Gulp....

Any room for a (not so) little one?
I'm obese and a wheelchair user. Making small changes to my diet and even going to one meal a day and avoiding carbs does nothing.

My hip is now disintegrating and my weight doesn't help.

This arrived today. I'm just desperate to lose some weight.

I can't have any coffee at all, can I? 😢

I still have coffee Bishop, I can't function without it, I put unsweetened almond milk in it as low carb/low cal alternative to milk. It does have a particular taste which I couldn't stand to start with but now I prefer it to regular milk. Good luck!

rainbowgrimm · 08/01/2019 16:00

Keep going Pitapotamus, it'll pay off. I've got 2 events this month that I'll have to eat at which I'm worrying about. Life carries on though so we'll all just have to keep plodding.
Well done on avoiding the spuds Kittensgalore!
Welcome BishopBrennansArse, I don't know about coffee I'm afraid as I don't drink it. Hope this works for you.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/01/2019 16:06

Thank you kitten you're a lifesaver x

BishopBrennansArse · 08/01/2019 16:07

Thanks rainbow Smile

Eliza9917 · 08/01/2019 16:17

Coffee is allowed, Exante & S&S sell Beanies (flavoured coffee).

I am so cold, its unbelievable.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/01/2019 16:19

@Eliza9917 thank you, I meant white coffee, I can't drink it black, but hopefully unsweetened almond milk is the answer

Eliza9917 · 08/01/2019 16:26

Ahh ok, I don't drink coffee so don't know.

I much prefer huge calorific whipped cream hot chocolates ffs Sad

Kittensgalore · 08/01/2019 16:27

Aldi's also have the beanies coffee and their own cheaper flavoured equivalent, I went in yesterday and bought about 10 jars of it!!! They are tiny jars mind.

themuminator · 08/01/2019 16:37

Week 1 Weigh in results: 7lbs lost

And I'm feeling flippin' fantastic. Way more energetic than I have in years. Ok, so I'm also feeling pretty empty, and I still find walking past eateries in town difficult because of the lovely smells.

Anyone else hating having to explain the diet to people and the way they judge you for it? I have diet shame!

Anyway, I have stuck to it like glue - mostly. I do allow myself slightly more of the allowed veg otherwise I'd go mad.

Keep going everyone.

BishopBrennansArse · 08/01/2019 16:40

I have to confess I've not told my mum 😳

But then before when I've been trying to lose weight and be sensible she's always attempted to sabotage it, then is highly critical when I go off the wagon. She has her own weight issues.

ClashCityRocker · 08/01/2019 17:40

Must admit, I've been keeping it on a need to know basis.

Some people get very judgy about meal replacements. If I hear 'just eat less and move more' one more time.....😡

Dh is somewhat perturbed but trying to be supportive. He has a metabolic condition which means he is extremely slightly built (could pass for a flat jockey!) and struggles to put weight on which I think makes it difficult for him to understand.

It also means I'm going to have to be a bit creative with meal planning when I get back to food.

Day 2 has been OK. I've had a lemon bar, and planning soup and a shake for tea and supper. There's a sort of background hunger but I don't feel starving particularly.

Still peeing for England though!

rainbowgrimm · 08/01/2019 17:52

I've only told DH & the colleague I share a room with as she'd notice anyway. I don't want to make a big deal out of it though people have noticed I've not been around at lunchtimes. I'm just claiming I'm getting stuff done in a fit of new year efficiency to avoid them.

rainbowgrimm · 08/01/2019 17:54

Well done@themuminator! That's fab.
Keep going @ClashCityRocker I'm not sure if the weeing has calmed down or I'm just used to going to the toilet 73 times a day.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 08/01/2019 18:11

Well done Muminator!!!

Hello all newbies :) as said above, the more the merrier!

I don't really talk about the diet with people in RL, the judgy looks and 'advice' they give you is just so irritating. It is lucky I have a very supportive dp though so I can moan at home. If I longingly look at the chocolate table at work (yes I know) someone will say, oh one won't hurt, I have to but my tongue to not blurt out, "YES IT WILL ACTUALLY!" hahaha

Kittensgalore · 08/01/2019 19:03

I'm the same as Day, I haven't really told anyone, or half truths, so I've said I'm healthy eating and following a low carb plan, but not said it's a VLCD/ sachets etc. I got some really good advice from a similar thread I was on last year. I'd been really worried about folk judging me, but really there was no need to tell people. I eat the products at work but I take them out of the branded packaging and no-one has noticed. I have the soups or Dahl pots at work for lunch, porridge for breakfast or a hot chocolate shake at some point. Harder if you are around extended family a lot I would guess but I don't have that problem. Some people sadly will always judge or be jealous of weight loss.

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 08/01/2019 19:49

Couldn't agree more Kitten, most of the time I find when people are negetive it boils down to jealousy. Watch out for people who say 'oh you look amazing, don't lose any more though or you will look ill!' Don't listen to them, listen to your own self/goals.

Pitapotamus · 08/01/2019 20:14

Thanks kittens. I’ve just carried on as normal post the lunch, I am just so determined to give this diet a proper chance - it seems impossible that I wouldn’t lose weight on this diet!

I have only told DH and my mum. They both know how hard I’ve tried to lose weight on a calorie controlled diet and not managed so they understand why I am taking what might be perceived to be extreme measures.

I wouldn’t tell any work colleagues, they’d think it weird and judge. I’ve just said I’m low carbing because carbs make me feel lethargic!

Bishop, I used to hate black coffee but the first few times I tried exante I got terrible caffeine withdrawal headaches and so I started forcing down espressos and now they’ve really grown on me - I still feel like they are slightly medicinal but just not as horrible as I once thought they were!

Pitapotamus · 08/01/2019 20:15

Yes Day, I agree, the people who say “oh you’ll waste away if you diet any more” are just weirdos! They need ignoring!

DayManChampionOfTheSun · 08/01/2019 20:21

100% Pita! And those comments will come, and often from people who are overweight themselves. I often find once people who are used to you being bigger realise you are actually in it long term, it makes them look at themselves and they get a bit funny.

Re coffee, I drink black coffee but it did take a while to get used to it. I'm lucky because I made the change about 10 years ago because I was too cheap to buy milk for the work fridge Grin stick with it and you won't be able to drink it with milk!

Pitapotamus · 08/01/2019 21:15

I don’t know what drives people to those comments though. You also get the diet saboteurs as well, the ones that try and get you to eat junk as a “treat” as soon as they know you’re on a diet. I literally can’t count the number of times people have suggested that I’m not losing weight because I am eating too little!

ClashCityRocker · 08/01/2019 21:43

Yes pitapotamus!

Especially in the office.

'No Sandra, we have some class of cakes or biscuits turn up everyday. It's a Tuesday afternoon in January. It is not a treat! A treat will be when I buy that marvellous jacket I've had my eye on and it looks damn good!'
