Hi Malfoynomore, I'm back - we were away for a few days. Going to do an exercise DVD and take the dcs swimming today. Didn't do much exercise over the weekend, a few cycle rides and a quick canoeing outing. Still have those pounds to shift. Very quiet around here...helloooooo, how is everyone?

Lorns · 23/07/2007 13:12

Hi I'm back. I'ce been studying very hard and finishing off 18 months worth of portfolio for my higher level Pilates qualification. Well I've finished. Horaay!!! Passed my last exam but still have my portfolio to be marked (including nutrition)....

I'm goign to now spend time reading all your posts.

Hope you're all well - well I'll find out.....

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:21

HIya back Laloop and Lorns...phew...I started to feel a bit abondoned
lol

Oh Lorns how cool on passing that exam and I am sure your portfolio is going to be brilliant

Laloop, canooing sounds fun, so does cycling ( I have always loved cycling, and used to cycle everywhere when I was still living in Germany, but my bike is not much used nowadys...but will start when Kids are in school, etc...to ride my bike again)

I did Davina Power of 3 this morning.
Does anyone know how to really target Belly and butt fat? I mean, I am toning up and all that, but is there a way to really target those areas by diet/exercises? I am getting a bit depressed about my belly and start to wonder if the only way to ever loose it is to go down the emasiated (sp) route, which I obviously don't want to go down.....!
Would maybe taking something like L-carnitine (sp) help wiht that, seeing that it is a fat metabiliser or helping wiht it anyway?

Lorns · 23/07/2007 13:34

Right - wizzed through the posts. Welcome to Weezy and no1Q!

Marls001 (beein calling you Marls100)!!! - gkad the foarm foller helps. Just out of interested did you use a "full" foam roller of half for your stretch?

Malfoynomore - I had cycstitis just after your which developed into a kidney infection. I don't stop teaching for anything - but this just floored me!! Ended up on AB - you were sooo ringht to go to the GP!

Ormirian - sorry to here about your leg. Have you got tight claves, hip flexors, back/front of legs anyway? Re the arms have either of your parents or grandparents got big arms. It might be hereditory?

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 13:46

Oh LOrns, Kidney infection is just nasty

Lorns · 23/07/2007 15:56

Hi Malfo - thax for encouragement! . Unforntunately you can't sport reduce fat and with us women the LAST place we tend to see reduction are these places. You might just have loose skin on your belly - stretched by pregnancym - not fat at all.

With your butt - doing squats and lunges will really help to firm up these areas. Swimming is a good one too....

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 16:44

OH, I do loads of squats and lunges...I mena, they seem to be favoured by Davina, Nell and Isabella and Vicky and whoever else there is...lol....

Obviously after 3 children and being the size of a house bumpwise especially wiht my last ds, there is some stretched skin and unless I had that cut away I have to accept it, but there is definately also bellyfat and to much to go with my body...I mean, my tummymuscles as such really are getting better, I can see them and there is a bit more definition I suppose, but well....it still doesn't look right...I would love a flat tummy, sigh!
Wonder if on top of my 1 hour exercise regime if I just do loads of crunches etc...in the evening if that would help somewhat?
I have a weird tummy though, anywya...not the usual shape for a woman, lol...I have a very flat lower tummy but have a very standy out stomach area and fat in the middle....
Will download a pg picture from my last pg, lol...that might show you just how amazingly huge I got, lol...no surprise people always asked if I was pg with twins, lol....

Malfoynomore · 23/07/2007 16:49

uploaded some bump pics yikes I was the size of a house....and not a small house neither, lol....

laloop · 23/07/2007 18:14

Hi Lorns

I was wondering how you were getting on as you haven't been on here for a bit, had guessed you might have been immersed in your studies. Well done and good luck on the portfolio, I'm sure it'll sail through
Sorry to hear you've been ill, hope you're feeling much better now.

How's the ankle, Orm - did you get out for your run?

My problem areas are my hips and thighs so although I can be thankful for a relatively flat stomach, I have that horrible "muffin-top" roll of fat that hangs over the back of my jeans, bleurghh Any tips on getting rid, shame I can't afford liposuction

Malfoynomore, I just got a new bike a while ago, had forgotten how much fun it is to get out for a cycle ride in the fresh air. Now we've got two of the dcs of their stabilisers (and ds2 in a cart at the back of dh's bike) we can head out to the local parks and forests with them at the weekends. I'm a complete novice at canoeing, used to go quite often when I did some youth work a few years back. Have just been borrowing a kayak up until now but would love to get my own at some stage, will have to start saving up

Malfoynomore · 24/07/2007 13:47

well, lazy day today....meant to do Tae BO, but truely can't be asked...lol....we are Pottytraining ys, and I am getting mildly fed up with it, already, lol....saying that, he finally did earlier a pee in the potty wihtout being prompted, so, hopefully he is getting that now...

laloop · 25/07/2007 11:20

We'll be attempting the potty-training here in a few weeks too, Malfoynomore - hope it's going well so far today!

Went for a 4 mile walk last night and have done Davina's Cardio Box workout this morning - this is the first time I've done this workout as just bought the 3x30 min DVD - it was fine, I need to spend a bit more time getting the moves right but I didn't feel particularly puffed out or stretched by it. Maybe I'm not doing it properly or it could be that it's less intense than the TaeBo despite the similar moves. What do the rest of you think of it?

It's still pretty quiet around here, hope everyone's doing ok

Malfoynomore · 25/07/2007 12:10

laloop...I really should be doing something...but am so lethargic right now...stupid really, cos I knwo the minute I do something I wll actually feel better....

on the Davina cardio box, I don't like that work out, tbh...it's so boring and at parts not that great explained, etc...which really surprises me, because that Mark bloke did such a good Job in power of 3 with the weight training, etc...hm....
I love the core and the pump though...

Actually I might do a tae bo basic workout and Davinas core workout in a mo....

As for Pottytraining...it's so and so...he still has accidents when wearing underpants, but is fine without...hm....

laloop · 25/07/2007 12:22

It's hard to find the motivation some days isn't it. I found the first week of the school holidays here really knocked out my exercise plans. Difficult to find the time when 3 dcs...and their friends/cousins most of the time too...are about the house. And by the evening I am too shattered to do very much!

The weather's been a bit better here for the last couple of days after raining every day for the last month or so. definitely been nice to get out in the fresh air again

Malfoynomore · 25/07/2007 12:32

yes, I think my problem si the usual one, got out of my normal routine, i.e. getting up very early to do it.....sigh....

Malfoynomore · 25/07/2007 15:47

Well , proud to report, I did the Tae Bo Energize basic workout and Davinas The Core....woopie...

speedymama · 26/07/2007 09:10

Hi everyone

Just been reading your posts. I had a lovely time in Devon even though it rained everyday except for one day which we spent on the beach.

I will start exercising again at the weekend. I have not weighed myself but I know I have put on a few pounds. I did not managed to go running whilst on holiday because I started my period on the second day. It was 4 days early - how unlucky is that?! Oh well, at least I enjoyed myself.

Well done on passing your exams Lorns. You must be thrilled.

Laloop, I find the problem with Davina's cardio box is that it is poorly explained and I don't think it has been choreographed very well. I prefer Taebo. For fat burning, other than running or cycling, I would recommend Taebo or one of Nell's DVDs because the key to burning fat, is to maintain an elevated heart-rate for a minimum of 20 minutes. Skipping is also excellent cardio exercise but not so good for the knees!

Malfonm, I know what you mean about the tummy area. That's why I run because it is the one thing that helps to reduce the fat around my midriff.

laloop · 26/07/2007 11:55

Hi speedy, welcome back, glad you had nice time on hols

I've just done the Pump section of Davina - enjoyed it much more than the cardiobox, felt more challenged. Going to try the core stability next

What's everyone else up to today?

3andnomore · 26/07/2007 13:00

Speedy, welcome back and glad you had a good time away.
As for midriff fat....you mention you find running the best, is that due to it being a good fatburner? So, should not Tae Bo or Nell do the same trick?
Interesting about a minimum of 20 min elevated heart rate for maximum fatburning....

Laloop, glad you enjoyd the Pump...tis a very good little workout, isn't it!
Like I said , I like the core one, a lot, too...and I am not much of a Yoga fan or anything...

Well, I did Nell Mc'Andrews Maximum Impact this morning and had only a teenzy break in the 2. lot of squats, when you lift one heel up...

Off to get my Implant out later, shudder....not sure if I will be able to exercise tomorrow, as apparently the arm can be quite sore....hohum!
Decided to call WW leader later, to let her know that I won't be back until after the Holidays finished....just to awkard with 3 Kids and next week got a friend to visit, etc....and soon my dh will be off work....obviously will try to eat well( staying on the 10/10 thread will help with that) and keep on wiht exercising as much as I can, and hopefully that will be most days....

speedymama · 26/07/2007 15:00

3anm, hi!

With regard to running, yes, Taebo and Nell should do the same as running in terms of fat burning because you achieve an elevated heart rate for more than 20 minutes. If you do that 3 or 4 times a week as well as watch your calorie intake as well as portion sizes, you will burn fat. What lets me down most of the time is that I can eat too much(lol).

OP posts:
3andnomore · 26/07/2007 17:57

lol speedy...sounds like a familiar problem

3andnomore · 27/07/2007 09:23

HI, well, arm is a bit sore today after the implant was removed (which didn't hurt in itself, phew)....so, won't be exercising today.

laloop · 27/07/2007 10:22

Hope your arm is better soon, 3anm.

Speedy, think I'm going to get back into the running again. Haven't been out since dc's finished school at end of June. Will try a gentle 2-miler first, then aim to push up the distance and speed again after that. How's your running going?

I was out with some friends last night for a meal and a few glasses of wine. Feeling a bit ropey this morning but might try Davina's Core workout if I start to feel better!

speedymama · 28/07/2007 09:13

Good morning everyone

Yesterday I did Nell's Ultimate Challenge. I did the warm up, the 40 minute killer cardio and the abs routine. That was exhausting.

This morning I went for a gentle 2 mile run which was surprisingly bearable followed by 25 minutes on my exercise bike.

I will be taking it easy for the rest of today now.

Laloop, a gentle 2 mile run is definitely the way to the get back into the running.

Good luck!

Hi there, have been lurking for a little while. Sounds like you're doing really well.

I started going to the gym in March, promptly put on 3 kgs. I now go spinning twice weekly and to 1 session of aqua aerobics + trying to fit in a samba cise class, and have finally lost 1 kg!!!! ( on top of the 3 that I put on and then fortunately lost).

I am, irregardless of weight loss, delighted with myself as feel just sooooooooo much fitter and happier. So really hope that I will develop a higher metabolic rate as feel I must be set in starvation mode or something.

I am now entirely addicted to spinning and keeping up after 5 weeks with the really fit gals!!

speedymama · 30/07/2007 12:28

Welcome Friendlyejit. I have not done spinning before butit looks energetic. You have the right attitude with regard to not just focusing on weight loss. Muscle occupies less volume than fat so as you become fitter and more toned, you will look slimmer. Also, muscle burns more calories at rest than fat so you will be using more excess calories even when you are not exercising.

Feeling fit is one of the best feelings in the world as the regulars on here will testify!
