Two yes I agree with that, and have had to cut out snacking at weekends for that very reason. Snacking seems to be the thing that really triggers my bad habits, sweets I can generally now just have what I want and stop. Mind you I had a fab ice lolly today for the first time in ages, it was soooo sweet! Still ate it thoughBlush

I never really snacked at weekends as I didn't trust myself.
At least I know that decision was the right one Grin

beela · 16/10/2017 09:38

Sounds like a successful experiment two - at least you've learnt something from it Smile

I think I need to try no snacking at the weekends too. This weekend was baaaaad!!

twofloorsup · 16/10/2017 15:06

I have indeed Beela.
I need to go back to no Standing again as that's my downfall.

beela · 18/10/2017 17:26

Happy Wednesday everyone.... half way there!

I feel like I am getting back on track this week. I had an enormous carvery meal at lunchtime, but it did all fit on one plate so no guilt there.

I need to get my weekends under control. I'm going to try the no snacking rule at the weekend.... I just end up picking all day otherwise.

twofloorsup · 18/10/2017 17:36

Hi Beela.
I'm also feeling a bit more in control.
A couple of times I've gone to nibble whilst plating my food and put it back.
I am also going back to strictly no snacking all week.

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/10/2017 18:04

Excellent, the no snacking at weekends club! (Snappy nameGrin) I have just filled my plate with pizza. And squeezed a bit of salad on the side. I should have had half pizza half salad really, but couldn't resist in the moment, sigh. Ah well it was a vegetable pizza so could have been worse.

PosiePootlePerkins · 18/10/2017 18:05

On the plus side I baked cookies today and not a crumb has passed my lips. I shall have to hide one from the kids so I can have it at the weekend!

beela · 18/10/2017 19:06

Impressive work posie. I love baking but have yet to master the art of not testing it, so try to restrict myself to s-days!

twofloorsup · 18/10/2017 22:25

I bake at work to get it out of my system Grin

I made Parmesan shortbread at the weekend. They satisfied my baked goods craving without a grain of sugar.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/10/2017 06:31

Thanks beela I hope there's some left for the weekend! Two that sounds yummy, I love savoury baking too (I love all food actually Grin)

twofloorsup · 19/10/2017 06:32

Haha me too that's the problem Grin

beela · 19/10/2017 18:06

Argh, 5.30pm comes round and I get the urge to eat everything in sight. Every day!!!

But I've got to get the dc into bed and cook tea for me and dh yet. Won't be time for us to eat until 8pm ish.

I really struggle with the afternoon. I either need to eat more for lunch or eat tea earlier.

PosiePootlePerkins · 19/10/2017 19:48

Beela I wouldn't last until 8pm! I usually eat with the boys at 6pm ish, by which time I am starving! Dh has to heat his up if he get in later.

healthandwealth · 19/10/2017 20:04

Just joining this thread. The pounds have been adding on over the years so I need to start doing something, but I'm anti diets (I did Slimming World a few years ago, lost a load of weight but then put it back on as soon as I went back to 'normal' eating). this seems like a good healthy sustainable option.
Any tips on making it through without snacks? I love my snacks normally!

Jasmine29 · 19/10/2017 20:19

Welcome healthandwealth!

I was just about to say the cup of tea idea is working really well. It's now my routine to put the kettle on when I get in from work instead of rummage through the cupboard or fridge. It's hard at first, I did feel quite hungry sometimes between meals, but I'm honestly getting used to it. It does get easier! I find it quite a relief not having to decide what to eat for snacks and just plan 3 meals.

Just try and stick to it at first (easier said than done sometimes!) but that's how the habits form.

healthandwealth · 19/10/2017 20:28

Thanks Jasmine. I'll try the cup of tea idea. Most of my eating is habit I reckon, and also mindless eating. It's too easy to scoff half of the kids tea without even realising it! Quite often I get to dinner time with hubby and I'm not even hungry! And then I eat a whole meal with him just to be 'sociable'.
It'll be a struggle to get through a whole afternoon without snacking but I've got to do something.

beela · 19/10/2017 21:17

I think you're right posie, I need to eat with the dc when I can.

Hello healthandwealth, welcome Smile, I second jasmine's cup of tea suggestion. Think about whether you really are hubgry or whether it is just habit. Distract yourself by doing something else - even if it's just a trip to the loo!

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/10/2017 06:31

healthandwealth that was definitely me a year ago! Constant grazing, eating some tea with the children then a meal with DH, as you say often not really hungry for dinner. When I first started NoS it was a shock to realise how many times my hand went to my mouth to put food in! Now it feels normal to not snack, it is definitely possible to break the habit. Good luck!

Mimilondon39 · 20/10/2017 17:58

This sounds great. Can I join? Have been using my fitness pal a bit but calorie counting drives me crazy! I think my issue is I rush around all day and don't give myself a chance to have regular meals - then I end up wolfing down six biscuits!

Jasmine29 · 20/10/2017 18:16

Last day of school today before half term and I was really tempted by cake! Decided to stay strong and not break the habit. It's nearly an S day!

Mimilondon39 - I was driven crazy by calorie counting too. I'm sure that's what triggered disordered eating. Not binged since doing nos since mid August and I feel great! Still feel tempted at times but take each day as it comes. Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 20/10/2017 18:50

Welcome mimiSmile
Jasmine we had chocolate doughnuts in the staffroom yesterday and today, I only just managed to resist! Well done for staying strong. S treats tomorrow! I have had home baking staring at me since Weds, I shall be sampling tomorrow! Have a great weekend everyone.

healthandwealth · 21/10/2017 02:59

Well done on resisting the doughnuts Posie! You'll have earned a treat at the weekend.

I'm on week 1 of this diet and I feel like I'm getting into better habits already. Im filling myself up with water and hot drinks rather than shovelling food in mindlessly! I've got my daughter's 5th birthday party coming up next weekend though so am a bit worried how I'll be around all the sweets and cakes.

beela · 21/10/2017 08:07

Well done health, sounds like you've got off to a great start Smile

Ikwym about kids parties. It was my ds's 7th birthday party last weekend. I must admit I did eat quite a bit of cake and chocolate Blush but I then stopped when it got to Monday, and even though we've still got leftovers I have ignored them all week. And despite a slightly self destruct weekend, I am another 1/2 lb down.

This weekend I am trialling the no snacking at weekends mod.
