Hi everyone! I'm new to mumsnet, I found this thread by searching for the no s diet. I've been doing no s for 6 weeks now. I lost 1.5 pounds to start with but maintained for 3 weeks. I'd like to lose half a stone but trying to be patient (this is so hard!) The main thing is I've stopped binging since I started, this was getting worse and worse, to the point where I didn't recognise my behaviour. I believe binging was triggered by calorie counting using myfitnesspal. I felt too restricted, even with a small calorie deficit.

Anyway I feel this is a much healthier approach and I'm sticking to it well.

Glad to see others are doing well too and it's great to find a current like-minded forum.

Good luck to everyone on the no s journey Smile

twofloorsup · 01/10/2017 20:45

Hi jasmine and welcome.
A lot of us here are former binge eaters so you're in good company Smile

twofloorsup · 04/10/2017 21:58

Hello all I hope you're all having a good week.
I am not sure what's going on with me but I keep getting thoughts to nibble on cake , shortbread and other sweet treats. I don't even like these things anymore and it's just a fleeting thought which I can bat away as ridiculous but I'm curious why these thoughts keep popping up in my head.

PosiePootlePerkins · 04/10/2017 22:31

Hi two I think its probably your old habits rearing their ugly heads, just a little bit, to test if your new habits are here to stay! Keep batting them away, or have some of what you fancy at the weekends, I reckon you'll fight them off no problem.
Welcome Jasmine I hope you are finding NoS suits you.
Sorry for lack of posts recently, Dh has been away for a week and I have been super busy, feeling tired and a bit stressed but sticking to NoS. I have officially been at this for a year now and am amazed what a difference that year has made. Hope everyone is having a good week.

twofloorsup · 05/10/2017 06:23

I think you're right Posie.
I'm still picking whilst making my dinner so maybe I'm leaving it too long between meals.
Also trying to eat dinner a bit earlier now there's no danger of me going back for more.

beela · 06/10/2017 15:02

Hello everyone, just popping by to say hi!

It's still going ok over here, I still need to work on having enough for lunch though so that I don't cave in the minute I get home and start eating biscuits before tea!

Looking forward to an S day next week for ds's birthday.... There's an incentive for me to make a really good cake!

Hope everyone else is ok.

twofloorsup · 12/10/2017 17:07

Hi everyone thought I'd pop by and see how you're all doing Smile
Business as usual here still going strong nearly 10 months now I think that's the longest I've stuck to anything properly Grin

beela · 12/10/2017 19:02

Well done two Smile

I'm having what I think is my worst day since I started! I've fallen off the snacking wagon good and proper. But I've got an eye infection and a cold so I'm counting it as a sick day and will jump right back on the wagon tomorrow.

twofloorsup · 13/10/2017 06:37

Way to go Beela that would have been a diet breaker for me last year.
Hope you feel better soon.

beela · 13/10/2017 12:03

Thanks two. Feeling a bit better today and I'm cracking on. Scrambled egg, avocado and ham for breakfast. Yum. Homemade lentil soup for lunch. Will have to try and think of something wholesome and nutritious for tea and avoid the takeaway temptation Grin

twofloorsup · 13/10/2017 16:02

I'm loving soups at the moment with all different types of bread.
I am having mash and something just not sure what yet Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/10/2017 16:46

Hey everyone! Just checking in. All good here, managed to drop another pound, this feels so normal now. Braces possibly out next week, although I'll have to see what the dentist says. That will be a true test of the no snacks, for 6 months I haven't had the option! I am very positive though that the habits will stick after a year.

twofloorsup · 13/10/2017 17:44

Hi Posie nice to "see" you Smile
I'm sure it's a habit by now !

Jasmine29 · 13/10/2017 18:10

Thank for the welcome Smile it's great to hear so many doing well with this way of eating. I find its the easiest way to cut down and am finding it quite easy to stick to... I'm hungry today though! Had an early tea so going to be a long evening!

twofloorsup · 13/10/2017 18:47

Hi Jasmine I'm drowning myself in tea at the moment to avoid an early dinner !
I am really hungry though so won't last much longer !

PosiePootlePerkins · 13/10/2017 20:15

Hi twoSmile** We have just had dinner out at the local pub, I had a delicious meal of lamb, new potatoes and veg, and feel very full! Have a great weekend everyone.

Jasmine29 · 13/10/2017 21:44

Good tip about the tea! Have a great weekend.

twofloorsup · 14/10/2017 00:14

I was toying with cereal for dinner tonight but had a strong word with myself and made a proper dinner. Not even halfway through and my friend called and we talked for an hour !
Typical - always something you can't reheat too !

beela · 14/10/2017 07:47

Well done on avoiding the cereal two! Hi posie, hi jasmine.

My sugar monster is trying to make its way back Angry I think I need to go cold turkey. Maybe even on 'allowed' sugar (granola for brekkie etc).

twofloorsup · 14/10/2017 08:16

Beela I found my repulsion to sugar is slipping away.
Remember I said I kept fancying a bite of this and a bit of that.
I think it's my body's way of trying to tempt me back in and I also think I now eat a lot more crisps nuts dried fruit and cheese - all things I would have avoided on a diet whilst breaking the diet to eat sugary stuff.
I don't really understand it.
I'm at a stage now where I can allow myself to have a snack at the weekend (usually my smoothie that I'd otherwise ram in with my breakfast) but honestly I think we are all at risk of going back to old habits as its what we are all used to , many of us our whole adult lives.
Anyway enough waffling it's breakfast time Smile

PosiePootlePerkins · 14/10/2017 12:21

Hi beelaSmile Sugar cravings definitely come and go in my experience, its weird how I can go for days and weeks without craving anything and then boom, out of nowhere I will get the urge again. I think my 'relapses' are becoming less frequent over time though so maybe there's hope!

Jasmine29 · 14/10/2017 13:44

I think with cravings a lot of it is down to habit / memories. I was doing fine until I saw all the halloween chocolate in the shops at the moment! It brought it all back how I'd buy loads of chocolate to eat in one go. I know Reinhard talks about building new habits in 21 days but I think the desire to eat loads of treats will always be there for me, on the whole it doesn't bother me but every so often it's like a beast ready to go crazy! Just take each day at a time.

beela · 14/10/2017 16:21

Yeah, I've dealt with it by going with it this weekend (several kids parties!) and remembering how I actually feel much better when I eat properly. So I will be back on it with willpower engaged and a meal plan planned on Monday. Actually probably tomorrow as I do feel quite sick from excess birthday cake today Grin

You are all right about habits. The old ones are so ingrained that they lurk there ready to pounce! But I think about what posie says about using your willpower to make it stronger, and eventually the new habits / willpower will be stronger then the old.

twofloorsup · 14/10/2017 18:54

I actually ate a lemon curd tart this afternoon just to see if I liked it
I was struck down by a killer headache and had to sleep it off Grin
Lesson learned !

twofloorsup · 15/10/2017 21:13

Hello again all hope you've had a good weekend.

I did a little experiment this weekend and decided to let myself snack, have sweet treats and pick whilst preparing food.

As expected I went straight back to square one Shock

I need to get back to basics as I've now seen how easily I could go back to grazing all day long and eating for the sake of it !

It's really bothered me how quickly I reverted to my old habits.
