I wish I could go off sweet food!

My sweet tooth has definitely reduced though. I've weaned myself onto dark chocolate rather than milk, and I definitely couldn't spend an afternoon munching pick & mix like I may have done in the past Blush

Perhaps it could happen....

Hello. This thread was in active convo and I am looking for a new way to eat.
Could anyone link to or copy and paste the rules here for me. Am on phone app so tricky to find. Thanking you x

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/07/2017 10:37

Beela I am similar in that I still enjoy some sweet things at the weekend depending on my mood/time of the month. It is definitely worth looking back to old behaviours like you eating sweets, I used to do this a lot. In fact I was thinking about how I used to raid the biscuit tin all the time, I can't remember the last time I did this. This morning I took the boys to their self defence class and stopped at the Co Op on the way home to let them choose a snack, automatically got one for them and DH and not for me. Unheard of a few months ago. Progress!

It happened really quickly with me and actually made me feel really sad as I've used sweet food as my support network for years.
I've got over it now and instead worry about my intake of nuts and dried fruit (which I know is very sweet but it fills me up for ages). I'm weird I know Grin

babba2014 · 08/07/2017 11:19

I was feeling hungry in the night (DS) wakes a lot still but I was thinking of the no s and for some reason it is challenging me to not get up and eat.
If I allowed treats on s days, I'd eat way too much hence the sometimes is not in my vocabulary. It would undo all the weeks work lol.

MiniMaxi · 08/07/2017 14:57

Joining the club!!!

DS is 10 months old, I go back to work after the August bank holiday and I have a stone to lose!

I hate the idea of dieting, love exercise but don't get enough. Had loads of success in the past with a similar "set of rules" of my own invention - largely around cutting out sugar and reducing snacks.

Hoping you can all provide me with some inspiration and motivation! Grin

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 15:46

Hi Mini welcome aboard.
Friendly bunch here any questions ask away and someone will be along to help when they can Smile

MiniMaxi · 08/07/2017 15:46

Thanks, twofloors!

HipsterRaccoon · 08/07/2017 17:09

Thinking about trying this, but struggling to get my head around it, probably because it doesn't have all the complex rules most diets do! But say I wanted some fruit as a pudding after dinner, is that banned or is it OK if it's in a small bowl on my dinner plate, if you see what I mean? And are things like Cereal not OK as they have sugar in? What do people tend to have for breakfast? I'm generally more a two meals and half a dozen snacks kind of person!

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/07/2017 17:44

Hipster fruit is fine but it should fit on your plate. The idea being that you are making healthy choices without having to think about it too much. Cereal is fine but I would try and aim for lower sugar ones, I have sugar free muesli and always used to have two slices of seeded toast as well, bowl in the middle and toast around the edge, have just (after 10 months!) progressed to 1 slice of toast. But it takes a bit of experimenting as you need enough to get you through to the next meal with no snacks. Regarding the lack of rules. It has been truly liberating and has restored my relationship with food, which for many years was awful.
Mini welcome.
About to have a BBQ for tea, am hungry but fine with it as I know I'll enjoy my meal all the more.

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 17:46

Hipster I eat cereal but generally low sugar options but I do too generously with nuts and dried fruit as I need it to last me hours. I have been sneaking in full sugar Alpen recently which I probably should cut out.

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 17:47
  • top generously !
HipsterRaccoon · 08/07/2017 18:43

Thanks for your replies! I'd usually have something like special k and fruit if I was being "good" but not sure if that would a) last til lunchtime and b) be too sugary! Thinking more protein rich breakfasts probably work better. Really excited with the plan (and kind of chuffed to discover it on a weekend so have a couple of days to get head in the game before Monday!) 😁

babba2014 · 08/07/2017 19:20

Honestly I'd avoid sugary cereals. I used to eat Kellogg's every day and feel rubbish. Then stopped having cereal but for me it is really strange having egg in the morning. But it's been great.
I need to find a way to make home made bread or switch to brown.

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 19:21

Babba I've just made home made wholemeal soda bread. It is ridiculously easy I can post the recipe if you like ?
Eggs for breakfast if you have time as they keep you full for ages.

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/07/2017 19:42

Yes please twoGrin

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 19:55

That's the soda bread. I've done it with white and wholemeal flour, next time I think I will use half and half.

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 19:56

This is also utterly delicious.
It's more cake texture than bread.
I eat it with frittata for a filling breakfast.

PosiePootlePerkins · 08/07/2017 20:01

Ooh thanks two sounds yummy, will definitely try itSmile

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 20:17

You're welcome.
Let me know how you get on.

MiniMaxi · 08/07/2017 20:22

On the bread topic - I had gestational diabetes when I was pregnant with DS and my consultant suggested eating sourdough bread rather than white or brown, as it digests more slowly (less of a sugar spike and keeps you full for longer)

Could be worth a try for my fellow toast lovers!

(Love soda bread too, mmm)

twofloorsup · 08/07/2017 20:42

I love sourdough but it sounds like a lot of hassle to make and the one I like is so expensive !

beela · 09/07/2017 00:07

I love sourdough too, but the rest of my family aren't fussed, so I rarely buy it as it goes to waste.

I've been meaning to try and make some, as a baking challenge now that I don't eat so much cake. My first attempt was a failure (the starter died) but I will try again.

beela · 09/07/2017 00:09

mini that's interesting, I didn't realise it digested more slowly. All the more reason to eat it then Smile

twofloorsup · 09/07/2017 08:44

I had a look last night but it's still screaming too much hassle Smile
