Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Thanks for your support everyone.

So I just cried all over the dietician Blush

Food is just such a complicated issue for some of us isn't it.
Mostly positive but we talked about my tendency to eat "safe" foods.

She wants me to have a takeaway Shock
My rational mind can see I need to try these foods while I've got support but the irrational bit of me is like "hell no"

Hope everyone's having a good week Flowers

MirabelleTree · 01/09/2017 07:52

So sorry to hear you're unwell Grumpy Flowers

Hercy makes a very good point about doing things to make you happy. I've found I enjoy listening to music which I take jogging and was listening to painting stuff yesterday and before I knew it I was dancing round the garage, glad none could see!

Chesty it is a huge issue. I think a lot of us will be able to relate to safe foods for what it's worth. I had a phase where I was very worried about the idea of eating at maintenance levels before I tried it and it felt irrationally scary the first time. Was worried on holiday how it would go as I had 2 large pizzas, chicken chow mien, pieces of cheesecake plus a massive piece of chocolate and raspberry cake over the week. It was a huge relief to see I hadn't gained and a big turning point as I really do feel now I have the tools to balance in and out which means that I will be able cope with all the things that trip us up in the future. I think doing it whilst you have support from the dietician makes sense. It always comes down to the fact most of us know how to lose, it's the bloody maintenance that is the hard bit.

Would it help if I ate takeaway with you?! Most happy to help Grin

Weigh day tomorrow, looks like I'm headed to an AF related gain so I probably won't bother and do it next week. I'm less worried about the fluctuations now as know it will sort itself out over time. As my weekly target loss is 1lb rather than 2lb I'm finding that hormone related fluctuations show more as less margin for error. Am at the stage now where people really notice which is lovely. 2 compliments yesterday which is lovely, though sometimes it feels a bit embarrassing.

Hi notanurse I'm tending to eat the same pre portioned foods because I know I'm generally losing.
Dietician and me I guess want me to be able to eat anything but show moderation and food not be an emotional/mental issue but just food.

I guess it's not normal or healthy to repetitively eat the same things.

Down 3 dress sizes is AMAZING!

Mirabelle thanks for offering to be takeaway buddy Grin I'm so worried it would trigger the "fuck it button"

MirabelleTree · 01/09/2017 16:11

3 dress sizes is brilliant NotaNurse, congratulations!

Happy to take one for the team Chesty Grin Could you maybe do it over the weekend, plan the days food so the takeaway is just like one of your safe meals. Fully get your worry but you can eat it and be ok. It's just a bit of food, don't let I have more power over you then it deserves. Eating it will not mean you going back to before, you'll be adding another tool to your arsenal of how to deal with what would have been tricky situations.

And if the worse did happen and the fuck it button triggers the next day is a new start and you keep going.

MirabelleTree · 02/09/2017 07:14

Quarter pound on this week.

Hi ladies, can I join you? I've lost a stone but have 4 to go, 5 would be better. Trying to do it in a sustainable way, I'm never going to give up chocolate so not cutting it out. I'm not eating before 12 most days and that seems to work well.
I'm a bit worried about having loose skin, how are those of you who have lost a fair bit already faring with that?

BlackAmericanoNoSugar · 02/09/2017 13:44

Week 10
Starting weight 100kg
current weight 91.2kg
this week's gain 0.8kg

People have to stop visiting and bring delicious goodies from their home countries. This is the second time in 10 weeks and also the second time that I've had a gain. It's worth it to see my lovely Malaysian SIL again though. Grin It has been a very tough week, and it's very clear to me that I'm a stress eater as I have been nibbling a LOT. My DS started secondary school on Monday. He has ASD so I have been very anxious about the move from his lovely primary where he had tons of issues despite having a one-to-one SNA for most of the time he was there. Now he has a shared SNA and he has to get himself to the right class, at the right time, with the right books when planning, organisation and time-keeping are particularly difficult for him. The school also has very high behavioural standards (it's my old school, so I knew this before I chose it) and DS is a total boundary pusher. I give it 3 weeks before I'm called in to talk to his head of year (I used to be called into the primary school a couple of times a term).

Anyway, after the relative ease of the summer holidays, I have been craving sweet things as a stress response. I have done my best to keep to protein and veg based snacks so my blood glucose is still within tolerable levels, but I completely lost the plot on Thursday and had four cream crackers with butter, plus quite a bit of my SIL's delicious (and carb-y) snacks. That, in turn, made me crave carbs all day on Friday too. It's almost like being back in the first two weeks when I was grouchy and craving all the time.

Welcome Boxachocs. I can't help much with the loose skin thing, I'm afraid. I'm perimenopausal so I think all the elasticity has pretty much gone from my skin. I'm losing weight for health reasons so if I end up healthier that will be enough for me, even if I can fit an extra person inside my skin. The last time that I lost weight I found that my skin was very dry, probably because I was doing WW which was low-fat. I used to massage in oil after my shower to stop my skin from getting itchy and flakey and I think it helped. I'm not sure whether it was the oil or the massaging that help the most.

Oh2beatsea · 02/09/2017 20:55

Hello can I join please?
My numbers today are:
Weight: 222 lbs
To lose: 82 + lbs
I am hoping to go swimming tomorrow too.

Boxachocs · 02/09/2017 21:43

Thanks Americano, I've been using cocoa butter so hopefully that will help.
Oh2beatsea I'm swimming quite a bit, all helps.

honeysucklejasmine · 02/09/2017 21:47

Thought I would drop in again and say hi. I was on first thread, I had lost about 26lbs and was TTC.

I am currently 34+3 with dc#2, and at last check have gained a total of 4lbs. Woo! Very pleased to say the least. Last time I went on a major cookie binge post delivery so I want to avoid that this time.

It's been lovely reading how you've all been getting on - well done everyone! Look forward to being back with you soon.

MirabelleTree · 03/09/2017 08:58

Honeysuckle how lovely, congratulations! You've done incredibly well to have only gained 4lbs so far, looking forward to your post birth weigh in result !!

Well done Notanurse. When do you see the Consultant about your gallbladder?

Fingers crossed for your DS settling in ok BlackAmericano. Can totally see how stressful it must be for you right now. My DS is starting Upper School next week and I feel a bit nervous. DD starting something new the same day so all new here and I'm a creature of habit, I guess a lot of us are.

Welcome Boxachocs and Oh2beatSea. I'm quite pleased at how my skin is doing so far after 75lbs. My arms are starting to look a bit ropey with bingo wings but none on my stomach so far and the bit that was starting on my thighs isn't too bad and slightly tighter than it was at one point. I've been overweight for years and am rapidly approaching 48 so odds not in my favour. I think possibly the walking has helped my legs and arse.

Sitting in bed at the moment and my legs feel a bit strange. Top of thigh feels pretty firm with muscle with a bit of flab. Bottom of thigh plus backside feels squishy. But we've found squishy is good so hopefully that's fat on it's way out at some point.

A milestone is slowly approaching , I'm about 4.5lbs off being overweight and am really quite excited at the idea Grini think it will take some time though s things have slowed right down as I felt I had been a bit aggressive with the deficit pre surgery and am doing the next bit much slower.

Chesty, what's happening with the takeaway ?

ChestyNut · 03/09/2017 09:44

Loss this week -2lbs
Total- 38lb 8oz
To lose- 61lbs 8oz

Mirabelle I'm still thinking about the takeaway Hmm Dietician wanted me to also not eat the same ice lolly every night.
So I'm working on that this week.
Sounds bloody ridiculous doesn't it!
I've tried Marrow Smileand SalmonEnvy this week.

honeysuckle congrats! Lovely news Flowers

MirabelleTree · 03/09/2017 10:00

Well done in the loss Chesty! Would swapping the lolly first be the way to go? You're replacing like with like then and once that is done successfully then maybe the takeaway won't seem like as much of a challenge? I do get it if it helps and I get what she is doing. It's about reframing foods in our mind. There was a point a few months ago where I felt like food was the enemy.

ChestyNut · 03/09/2017 10:39

Yes mirabelle it's realising food is just food and having something less healthy without thinking I've ruined it and eating aaaaalllll the unhealthy stuff.
I've swapped lollies Smile
Pizza takeaway feels like a big deal as it's one of the main things that contributed to my weight.

You have so many wise words Mirabelle you're an inspiration on this thread Flowers

MirabelleTree · 04/09/2017 07:33

Thanks Chesty I'm not working for the first time pretty much at the moment which means I have more headspace and am trying to think it all through as I can see it's the key. Well done on the lolly. Does the takeaway have to be pizza, could it be something like chicken tikka and boiled rice or chicken chow mien?

Dreadful weekend on food front and I have eaten 54 calories more than I burned off so have run 5k this morning, off for a dog walk and am having a light day on the food front to compensate.

Hercy · 04/09/2017 11:50

I can sympathise Chesty. I'm very much an all or nothing person, and once you eat one naughty thing, it's so hard not to let the floodgates open. I also have a tendency to stick with the same meals for ease/knowing I lose weight eating them.

I find eating out in a restaurant is a good way of limiting the damage if I want a night off. But I've always been more of a secret binger, so it might not have the same benefit for you.

I've had a good weekend on balance. Lots of walking, no booze and good food choices, other than a sausage baguette for lunch on Saturday, which gave me such bad indigestion I didn't feel like any dinner, so I guess that balances out.

I have been finding it difficult with the old angel v devil on shoulder. I know that it gets easier to make good choices once habits become ingrained, but this early stage is mentally draining!

I've been dicking around far too much over the last month or so - lose a few pounds, think I deserve a treat, treat turns into a few days of eating badly, x infinity. So drawing a line and starting again.

Week 1 Weigh in: 275lbs
Lost: n/a (I have actually lost about 4lbs this week, but taking today as my starting point)
To lose: 100lbs (actually would like to lose more like 120lbs, but 100 is definitely a good starting point!!)

teablanket · 04/09/2017 12:52

Hi everyone, is it alright for me to join in here?

I weighed 275lbs in late-March, am down to 223.8lbs as of this morning.

Weight loss is such a complicated thing. The emotional stuff is just brutal. It doesn't help that I don't feel like I look any different after losing 50+lbs!

But I'll get there. Just gotta keep on keeping on, right?

Welcome teablanket, brilliant loss so far. Yes I think KOKO is the answer, boring though it is !

Notanurse glad it has settled down a bit and the end is in sight on gallbladder front.

Better day so far today here. Just trying to keep everything calm for the new starts tomorrow. DS looks ok, DD very rattled and we have a plan B in place for her. I just need to hold my nerve and keep away from biscuit tin.

Hercy · 04/09/2017 16:22

Tea blanket, as someone who lost about the same as you (in 2016) and is back up to 275lbs now, trust me, I look different!!

I may not have appreciated at the time as it was all gradual losses, but now that I've piled nearly all of it back on, I can appreciate how much smaller I was when I was about 50lbs down. i have a ton of clothes in my wardrobe, bought last year, that no longer fit. Dig out something non-stretchy you wore at your biggest if you don't believe me!

BreakingSad · 04/09/2017 18:30

Just checking in, will read thread thoroughly later, as lots of posts.

Congratulations Honeysuckle that's wonderful news.

And welcome to the newbies

I've not weighed in this week, as I was away at the weekend and last week had three meals out. Dsis was visiting (haven't seen for a year) and I took my dd back to uni. I've just got my two ds to go back to school and college and I can have some normality back.
I'm back on it today though.

teablanket · 04/09/2017 19:46

Thanks so much everyone!

Hercy, I'm not sure I actually owned any non-stretchy clothes at my biggest. Blush But my old jeans that used to be a bit of a squeeze don't really stay on properly anymore -- I nearly mooned the postman a few days ago. Blush Blush Blush

I bought some new jeans today, a size smaller, I wasn't expecting to fit into them but they need a belt if I don't want to hitch them back into position as I walk down the street! Clearly I am decreasing in size, but I just don't see it yet.

honeysucklejasmine · 04/09/2017 20:36

Thanks all. I don't really remember what my weight was when I got pregnant, so just comparing to the weight recorded at booking in (8 weeks pregnant).

I do however remember how much I weighed when I started this journey (like I'd ever forget a number that huge) so I will be comparing my post baby weight to that. At the moment, I think 34+5 week pregnant me is 17lbs lighter than I was when I started. I gained a bit before getting pregnant (TTC is stressful!) but really pleased it's not gone majorly wrong since then. Definitely looking forward to how much I weigh post birth. And then I am back on the wagon.
