Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

That's really impressive honeysuckle and I hope the last weeks go smoothly for you.

I've been doing well for about a week and wondering why I haven't already dropped the 4st I put back on. Patience is not a virtue of mine!

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 05/09/2017 19:41

Hi all! Apologies for the lack of posting - work event has been mad, and I'm finally getting a moment to myself. There has been acres of food available, but I've been sensible and not stuffed myself, and instead gone for smaller plates, and better options, and very little wine (unlike some here!) Will hop on the scales and see how I've done tomorrow once I'm home and will catch up properly with you all then Smile

Great feeling when new clothes fit teablanket.

Highly impressive Honeysuckle, looking forward to the birth announcement .

Also very impressive NoTractors.

DH looked at my legs and said he thought my legs had shrunk since last measure. He was right, not a lot nad surprised he noticed but quarter inch off my calves which I was really pleased with. Am hoping I can wear long wellies now.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/09/2017 11:29

Ooh Mirabelle, I'm very excited about the day I can wear wellies without having to consider my massive calves!

I hopped on the scales this morning, and I'm down 1lb, so I'm happy with that - it's just from food as I've done precious little exercise over the last week. I've been a bit fixated on this work event, so I'm glad it's over and I can concentrate on getting my weight-loss shifting again Smile

Lost this week: 1lb
To lose: 124 lbs
Lost to date: 28 lbs
Left to lose: 96 lbs

Oooo, 2 stone NoTractors well done Smile

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/09/2017 11:53

So it is! Off to celebrate with a cup of fennel tea (my new obsession) Grin

Afternoon all :)

I'm currently bloated to Michelin Man levels with PMS so avoiding the scales for the moment. Have managed to up my walking to around 18k steps for a few days this week though, which I hope will help when I weigh in again on Monday.

Does anyone else go into a bit of a tailspin when they have to change planned meals at the last minute? I've found I'm successful when I meal plan (and stick to it obbo), but when I have to go off piste I can struggle to make good decisions. Like last night when DH was unexpectedly out late so ended up just cooking for me and there was a lot of cheese Blush

I think I need some good, staple solo meals that are quick, easy and healthy so I can revert to them in a crisis! Does anyone have any good go-to meals?

teablanket · 06/09/2017 18:29

Well done, NoTractors!

Hopping on the wellie-dreaming. I was at a music festival a few weeks ago, ankle-deep in mud, but I knew there was no hope of squeezing my calves into the wellies they were selling!

(I did see a slim guy using the extra space in his wellies to carry cans of cider. Truly living the dream. Grin )

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 06/09/2017 19:40

I remember the days I used to keep things in my long riding boots...that was quite some time ago!

Hercy - I'm with you on the meal planning front. If I stick to plan, I find everything is easier, but if something changes it, I do go off course really easily. I think it helps having fewer decisions to make day-to-day - much like Steve Jobs and Barack Obama limiting their wardrobes, so they didn't have to waste time deciding what to wear each day. I really need to rationalise my recipes and work out something that everyone will eat, and is healthy and not too repetitive. I'm a big fan of the good food website for most things, but I still struggle with portion sizes Blush. Definitely the thing I need to work on the most.

I've just been reading an article on Lifehacker Binge eaters benefit from therapy not diets and the associated article on The Atlantic How therapy can cure overeating and found them quite interesting, if rather America-centric. I've never really considered myself a 'binge' eater, but reading these certainly rang some bells and something for me to think about going forward.

OP posts:
MirabelleTree · 07/09/2017 07:15

I have a crisis meal but I don't think it's everyone's thing. It's a pouch of Quinoa and brown rice from Aldi which takes 2 mins to microwave tin of tuna, 200g cucumber and a tablespoon of Worcester sauce. Takes 5 mins tops.

That article is interesting, I have been reading a bit on it recently as realised I was heading towards anorexia at one point when young and that my eating behaviour since has not been 'normal' so kind of the other end of the spectrum and if you think about it having 100lbs to lose means our eating must be abnormal.

I think we're all having a shot at a form of CBT very often with some of the things we discuss and the things we individually have been thinking about. Obviously not the same but it is kind of along the principles nad I think we all recognise that things have to change if we are to break the your diet pattern a lot of us have been doing, most of our lives. And I know I keep banging on it about it but I think using the time now to think about maintenance will pay off hugely when we get there. I've definitely Ifound reframing this as a health thing is very helpful too.

Nutracheck has been great for portion sizes as it gives you the weights for small, medium and large portions so I try to stick to one of them

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 07/09/2017 10:25

Thanks for the reminder about Nutracheck Mirabelle - I meant to download it the last time you mentioned it. I will download it now.

I'll be utterly honest - controlling my portion sizes does scare me. And I don't know why. I do know that if I think my plate isn't big enough, I almost panic that I'll still be hungry when I finish, and I don't know where that comes from. I think it must be tied in with some deeper emotion - maybe that if I'm physically full, then I'll be emotionally fulfilled too? So I keep eating, but that doesn't really 'fill the gap' - it's so counterproductive. There is definitely something abnormal going on, it's just taken me so long to realise that I don't 'just eat a bit more than I should', it's so much more than that. Lots to think about.

Hercy · 07/09/2017 10:58

I've just read the articles and found them interesting. I'm definitely a binge eater (but have known that a long time), and it was interesting to read that you need to love yourself and not put things off etc to help get a grip on bingeing (v.crude summary).

I do have a big tendency to not bother making an effort with my appearance when I feel bigger, but when I feel more comfortable with my size i.e. when I'm losing, I do things like straighten my hair and get my eyebrows done. And I find those sorts of things so motivating to keep me on track.

I also put off meeting up with friends I haven't seen in a while and things like that. Particularly recently, as I don't want them to see I have re-gained weight and want to wait until I'm looking a bit better. The reality is, they wouldn't care and I would have a great time regardless. And it would even give me a boost (feeling happy/positive) to keep on track with the diet.

But the message I got from the article is if you keep putting things off until you're slim, then you will never get slim.... food for thought!

Hercy · 07/09/2017 14:55

Well, I've passed my first test today. DH is out tonight as well and it's really rare for him to go out, so when he does, I usually use it as an excuse to eat rubbish and/or massive amounts. But I went to the shops and got a healthy meal for one for me tonight and some veg. Should finish the day on about 1200 cal and 18k steps.

That said, I only live a few mins drive from M&S/Waitrose/Sainsburys, so I'm not completely out of the woods yet.

Still feeling very bloated, which doesn't help motivation!

Hope you're all having good days :)

Yesterday evening went fine thank you notanurse and I was rewarded with a sneaky weigh in this morning, showing I was 4lbs down since Monday (although I suspect some of that is loss of hormonal bloat).

I've not used an M&S personal shopper (or any personal shopper in fact), but I think it's a great idea. It can be hard to know what suits you as you're losing weight, as you're probably so used to just buying something because they have it in your size, or it skims your tummy or covers your arms etc.

I did read an article about personal shoppers recently and M&S didn't fare well I'm afraid (sorry, can't remember where otherwise I would link). But that might have just been luck of the draw at that particular store. I seem to remember the higher end department stores being better rated on personal shopping. So you could always try somewhere else (Selfridges?) if M&S isn't helpful and just take note of what they say for style and colour rather than buying ££££ clothes!

NC here. STS this week, am 'owed' 1.5lb from the last 2 weeks so hopefully that will show up soon. Bit under the weather with bit of a sore throats so didn't run yesterday and am going to have a restful weekend.

Current loss 75.25lb

swlondonnanny · 09/09/2017 08:52

Hello everyone,
I am finally back from my trip to Spain (with work) . It was great there, lovely weather and country. Haven't been to that particular part (Andaluzia) for 22 years and it has changed so much!
Food wasn't the best for my diet as they tend to put sugar into everything ('natural' white yoghurt with sugar added!?!?) and ate out all the time. But have to say that I finally feel better, really needed the sunshine I suppose?
Did my weigh in today at 106.8kg, loss -1.2kg (weeks 25 and 26)
Will catch up with the thread properly later on today

BreakingSad · 09/09/2017 11:21

To lose 113
Lost to date 44
Left to lose 69
Lost this week 1

Pleased it's a loss, even got back on my excise bike this week, which I haven't managed this summer.
KOKO

ChestyNut · 09/09/2017 16:49

Checking in!

I've been so hungry this week, proper stomach growling hunger so not expecting a loss. Wondering if it's period related as I'm due on.

mirabelle I too have had disordered eating all my life, periods of starving, purging etc.
First time in a long time I've felt on an even keel.

Well done to the losers and for KOKO everyone.

Loss this week - 12oz
Total- 39lbs 4oz
To lose- 60lbs 12oz

Pleased as wasn't expecting a loss.
2lb and a bit til 3stone Smile

notanurse its tough isn't it. I relax my eating on a Sunday, feels more manageable. Recognise I might have to reduce this as time goes on.

KOKO everyone Flowers

PostNotInHaste · 10/09/2017 09:30

Well done swlondonnanny and Breakingsad for losing and Notanurse for STS. Chesty I think it is period related, run with that.

Will definitely not skips M and S personal shopper then! Feeling under the weather still here , bit queasy, sore throats and huge spot so taking it easy still. DS seems ok at new school but I think it's going to be a bit of a long haul with DD whilst she gets sorted as going down a difficult career path. Hoping some shifts will come up at old job for her as currently she is here 24/7. I'm sure it will be fine but hard work keeping her upbeat, though better at end of the week.

Have been fighting the desire to stuff my face, just about winning so far.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 10/09/2017 11:59

Well done you losers and STS-ers. I'm very jealous of your Spanish work trip swlondon - mine was considerably less exotic Liverpool

I have a day to myself, so trying to get everything sorted for the week ahead. DCs have been back at school for a few weeks now, so I feel we're getting our routine back now. I need to meal plan, and book an online shop and then we're just about there. I want to make more of my evenings, instead of collapsing on the sofa and doing the bare minimum, so I'm going to make plans for those too. I just have to remove the cat from my lap (who is not asleep, but is giving theatrical snores so I won't move her) and I can get started Grin

Week 11
Starting weight 100kg
current weight 90.1kg
this week's loss 1.1kg

I've been a bit absent this week, I went away for a few days with my lovely SIL (you may wonder why I always use the adjective 'lovely' when I talk about my SIL, that is because I also have another SIL Wink ) and today we did a cooking course at Catherine Fulvio's cookery school. That went very well and I really enjoyed myself and, as a plus, even though I had some dessert the mains were so heavily protein and veg that my 2hr blood glucose was absolutely fine. I never knew that saltimbucco was so easy to make, I will be cooking it nonstop until the family are sick of it. Grin

Well done to the losers, chin up to the gainers, I'm off to take lovely SIL back to her hotel and I will be catching up with all of your news later this evening.
