Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

Rumtopf you amazing women! How did you manage to stay sane when TTC for 10years???
Mirabelle just out of curiosity what diet were you recommended now after your surgery? By your doctor I mean?

swlondonnanny · 20/06/2017 21:54

Interesting conversation about portion sizes and relationship with food.
I log everything into MFP and I eat everything which comes in my calorie limit. Salad I had for lunch was huge. But I ate it all. When I didn't finish it couple of times I was snacking all afternoon. As I do low carb high fat I am keeping my carbs quite low and get most of my calories from fat. Doing this I sometimes 'forget' to eat enough of proteins. Recently I had evening 'cravings ' for chicken leg. And ham... etc. All protein dense food. So I had it even though I went over my calories those days.
Once I eat food which is right for me (and seems like LCHF works well for my health) and sleep properly I just listen to my body and eat what it asks for (thankfully it is not cake.... or alcohol... or toast with honey...)
Another advantage of LCHF is that I am not that hungry. I do quite a bit of 16:8 and that works for me as well.
Luckily people around me accept my WOE and don't offer what I can't eat and if they do they they don't get offended if I say no.
What I am trying to say is that we are all different and if we find what's right for us it does get easier (cravings/hunger etc)
I am probably 'lucky' that large quantities of sweet stuff makes me feel sick so it is easier not to eat them

Rumtopf · 20/06/2017 21:57

I didn't, that's why I'm so fat! Grin

Re portion control, I'm going with a palm sized piece of fish (not really eating meat at the moment), a serving spoon of rice/pasta/new potatoes (from my garden, yay!) and then the rest of my plate filled with salad or veggies.

I've made some ice lollies, blended 2 fresh mangoes until puréed and then mixed with some dairy free coconut yoghurt, popped them in lolly moulds in the freezer and they are so good!

I've been signed off by my physio for my shoulder today to the strengthening and conditioning consultant which means I can start swimming again too. At our pool they do technique lessons which are for adults and free.

Habit and rituals around food are strange, ingrained things aren't they. Even though my rational conscious tells me one thing, my subconscious is clearly trying to do another.

MirabelleTree · 20/06/2017 22:17

SWLondonnanny he didn't recommend any diet, just told me I had to get the rest of the weight off. I was too groggy to think to ask how at that point. I did some reading around so know it varies what people can eat after and have been gradually reintroducing foods. I'm still quite wary of anything high of fat at the moment.

Rumtopf · 21/06/2017 10:23

Turns out it was water weight after all. Although we have a weekend away camping with friends so it'll be miraculous if I keep the loss I noticed this morning til Monday!

Babieseverywhere · 21/06/2017 10:54

Any recommendations for an easy cold breakfast ?

I usually have porridge with soy milk in Winter.

Can't eat high fibre cereal or cows milk.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 21/06/2017 12:41

Greek yogurt with raspberries, Babies. Yum.

Or, ready cooked kippers with coleslaw. Yum, specially the peppered ones.

Or, that make-the-oats-the-ngiht-before-with--yogurt-so-it-soaks-in thing. Also yum.

stealtheatingtunnocks · 21/06/2017 12:42

Oh, cows milk. RTFT, doh.

Soya milk oats and fruit overnight would work.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 21/06/2017 19:22

I don't eat breakfast these days, but I've made these egg muffin cups before [http://showmetheyummy.com/healthy-egg-muffin-cups/ Show Me The Yummy link]]

I used to make a batch on a Sunday, and they'd last all week Smile

I don't do breakfast either.

2nd physio today, gave me some more exercises. Can't seem to gel with the physio tho she seems a bit rubbish!

Hungry today.

KOKO everyone.

Rumtopf · 21/06/2017 22:31

Breakfast for me is normally dairy free yoghurt (I like a coconut one), a low sugar granola and a handful of berries and seeds.
Sometimes just fresh fruit sometimes tinned tomatoes on a slice of wholemeal toast with scrambled eggs and mushrooms.

MirabelleTree · 22/06/2017 06:50

I'm still on porridge but some of these sound lovely. I've gone squishy and lumpy again. Scales are fractionally moving will see what they say Saturday. Changing weigh in day from tomorrow as hoping to get out into the woods early tomorrow for a C25K session. Going swimmimg with a friend this morning! Things I didn't think I would be posting this time last year!

I've gone squishy and lumpy again and my bum is baggy.

Babieseverywhere · 22/06/2017 08:23

I like the idea of the egg muffins (prepared in advance)

Think I will try oats in yogurt first. Can I use flavoured yogurt and what type of oats do I need ?

Am I a bit late in the day or can I join - I have 4 stone 8 pound to lose.
Feeling a bit crappy currently as it seems no matter what I do the most I've lost is a pound or 2 and even then it's not difficult for me to put it straight back on. Support from people in similar situation much needed

Rumtopf · 22/06/2017 14:18

Hi Noclass, of course you can join in, I've only just come back myself. Have you been following a particular kind of eating plan?

Notanurse, That's weird about the train but also a good sign of your shrinking!

Mirabelle, you're doing so marvellously, being a bit squishy isn't a bad thing. Would bio oil or vit e oil help at all?

Babies, I just use plain porridge oats with added wheat bran from sainsburys - comes in a big bag and is inexpensive. Flavoured yoghurt works well.

Fingers crossed it doesn't pour down all weekend camping. I've got huge amounts of fruit to prep to take with us so I've got something readily available to make good choices.

not a good luck for the scan and hope they sort you out quickly!

Welcome doodle Flowers
mirabelle yay for the squishyness Grin

So I don't generally buy clothes very often ( over a year) because always think I look hideous anyway but I've ordered 3 dresses in a smaller size and one is a teensy but big.
Bit worried they'll be too big by holiday in November but they are very pretty.
Yay me and another non food treat!

ChestyNut · 22/06/2017 16:32

rum are you camping in a tent? Sounds fun but my back is wincing just thinking about it!

Alfieisnoisy · 22/06/2017 17:25

I have started the Couch to 5k running, the thought of 5k seems huge at the moment but I will get there.

Weighing tomorrow and just hoping the scales will reflect my hard work.

MirabelleTree · 22/06/2017 18:07

Welcome Noclass. It's the Keep On Keeping On (KOKO) that makes the difference. For now get stuck in and get a pound loss in the bag then you've started, the rest can follow.

Notanurse really glad you have finally got a scan date. I'm like a new woman minus my gallbladder. This thread has been so important in keeping me going. No one I know in RL has had as much to lose as me.

Rumtopf Notanurse explained the squishy thing ! It's kind of like the fat breaks down before it goes and you get firmer again. Probably not what happens but I live in hope! Fingers crossed for decent weather for camping. So impressed you've got healthy food packed !

Chestynut that's great about the new dresses. Better get wearing them in case they are too big by holiday. Bet you get lots of comments when you do, people notice when you wear smaller clothes. I've had a lot of comments the past few days now I have less baggy tops.

Alfieisnoisy I'm on week 4 and apparently at end of next week I'm going to be able to jog for 20 mins continuously ROFL. Friend was saying she wants to put a running group together and we could all run to the pub. I Said she might need to wait a bit for me to do that as I can only do 5 mins! I'm doing the race for life next summer

Babieseverywhere · 22/06/2017 20:56

Well, I have made some overnight oats abd put it in the fridge. 50 rolled oats, 50 ml soy milk and 1 teaspoon of chia seeds.

It is looking a lot like concrete and quite thick. Wonder if I should of added more milk ?

Have to see what it looks like tomorrow ! Was planning to add half a banana before eating it.

Rumtopf · 22/06/2017 22:44

Ah thanks for explaining the squishy thing. Still sounds like progress to me!

I think I use about 25g oats, 50g dairy free yoghurt, a large serving spoon of frozen berries and a desert spoon of seeds. The frozen berries release a lot of water which helps with the stodginess.

No, no tent! We've got an old campervan (motorhome I guess as it's so big) with a decent sized double bed, hot shower, our own loo and a little kitchenette. We do lots of festivals and camping so it's nice to have something fully loaded and ready to go when we fancy it. I couldn't do Glastonbury etc in a tent in the mud! It's 6 berth so plenty big enough for the three of us, we've got both dogs coming with us this weekend though so it might be a bit of a squeeze. All good fun though.
Went food shopping with my friend for the weekend and we did well on the food til we got to the booze aisle. They're bringing their 5yr old who is one of my most favourite people in the world (I used to look after him from 4months - 4yrs) so I shan't be sitting still much as he just doesn't stop. Figure it will balance out over the weekend.

What's everyone else got planned?

Alfieisnoisy · 23/06/2017 20:14

Gah! So this week I have done Yoga, a 5k Muddy Race, two lots of "Couch to 5k" running plus swimming.

I gained 1lb.....go figure. So cross.

Running again tomorrow and again on Monday morning.

Still eating my low fat diet and will continue doing so.

Maybe next week will show the difference,
