Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 04/05/2017 17:47

Hello, welcome to the second instalment of the ‘Anyone looking to lose 100lbs plus in 2017’ thread Smile The first thread is here, if you want to read it: Part 1

We’re a very friendly, supportive group, and we’re all starting to see some real changes in ourselves and our attitudes to food (at least, mine are changing!) Collectively we’ve lost 318 lbs since the start of the first thread, which is pretty amazing Grin

We tend to weigh in on Fridays or Saturdays, but feel free to join in at any time.

I will make one caveat, which I think is quite important for the spirit of the thread - we’re all here because we have a LOT of weight to lose. If you’re looking to lose the last half stone, or even two or three stone, this may not be the thread for you. Good luck with the weight loss, but you may find more support with in threads with people who have similar goals.

And with that little speech done, I’ll shut up now Grin

How much have you lost total Tractor?
I have a noisy liver Grin

I so wish I had a pool in my back garden, it's roasting! Not looking forward to uniform tommorow, at least it's loose so might get a breeze up me frock Grin

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 18/06/2017 20:17

My scales weigh differently to the GPs - so according to mine, I've lost 34 lbs, but according the surgery ones it's more like 31lbs Confused. I'm sticking with mine!

I'm dreading going into work tomorrow - after being closed up all weekend, it's going to be roasting, and the windows don't open very far - I may have to have an emergency ice lolly to keep me going! I do feel for anyone having to wear a uniform in this heat though, hope you do get a breeze up yer frock tomorrow Chesty Grin

34lbs is amazing tractors! I used to work in a kitchen. There were arguments during the summer as to who got to stock the freezer delivery!
I lost nothing this week, I was feeling fairly shit on Friday and ate all around me (a common theme, the self sabotage) then cried at why I couldn't lose weight (I was eating the answer to that). Sick of feeling like a monster that should be rolling around. I'm frustrated and fed up. I'm sick of being the fat friend, I'm done staring at the clothes in shops and wishing I had the balls to go to the fitting rooms and try something on. I had a setback, no more excuses I'm going to do this.
Start: 220.5lbs
Current: 212lbs
Loss this week: 0lbs
Loss: 8.5lbs
To go: 72lbs
Goal: 140lbs

MirabelleTree · 19/06/2017 07:46

Well done Breaking and Chesty, more pounds bite the dust !

Ash you stayed the same and have lost 8.5lbs, pick something up that weight. What about setting yourself a target of 12.5lbs to focus on for now so you are under 200lbs on the scale and will have lost 1.5 stone?

Stealth you will absolutely not be fat forever. You've had one week that hasn't gone to plan, that does not undo what you've done, it's life ! Maybe a bit of structure to the week knowing it is going to be hot so take that into account and build in regular treats to try and keep feelings of deprivation lower. Maybe a mini target for something coming up. The difference this time to before is that you are going to keep at it because this is the last time you're doing it. We are all going to crack this and learn how to mai twin so we never ever have to do this again. This is our last summer of being fat.

5k seems like a distant dream but I struggled with 60 seconds at the start and this morning did 5 mins. Apparently by the end of next week I shoukd be able to do 20 mins Shock I can not stress enough how I have never ever wanted to run in all my 47 years and I do not know what has come over me.

I will join you all, I started healthy eating in January and so far I've lost 38.5lbs . I am much more active and I am off to join a beginners running group this morning. I am smothered in sun cream, I have fluids and I am looking forward to it, it's one of the "Couch to 5k" type courses so walking for 90 seconds and running for 60 seconds.

So breakfast this morning has been fruit and a left over chicken breast from the BBQ last night.

I am sort of following SW but I am trying not to get too tied up with syns etc as I don't feel I could follow that for life. Am focusing much more on nutrition and it's working for me better that way. Most weeks I lose 1lb. Sometimes it's just 0.5lb and occasionally nothing at all but I am trusting that my body knows what it is doing.

Rumtopf · 19/06/2017 09:50

Morning everyone!
I'm thoroughly narked as after a really good week of drinking gallons of water, eating fruit and Huel shakes and a v healthy and balanced main meal once a day I have gained 2 lbs. just how?! It's not even AF week.
Have just menu planned for the week and am off to do shopping - more salad, fish and fruit.

I've suffered from PCOS for years, was first diagnosed at 18. Having my daughter 14 years ago was obviously a bit of a miracle as dh and I have been ttc for 10 years on and off and while I've had 8 miscarriages, nothing has stuck. I'm heavier than ever but my periods are generally regular which they never were before. Also, I was on Metformin for years but found it didn't make much of a difference.

Good effort for the runners!!! I walked the dogs for a few miles this morning at 6am and that was warm enough. :)

MirabelleTree · 19/06/2017 11:19

I was in the woods in shade and it was about 6.15am Notanurse I am in awe of Alfieisnoisy doing it later! I think it takes ages for our minds to catch up with our bodies with the weight loss. I can see it on myself now but have a tendency to see what I have still to lose.

Welcome Alfieisnoisy and congratulations on your weight loss to date. Hope the first running session goes ok, you'll have a huge sense of achievement just getting off the couch in this weather !

Rumtopf I think it's the heat giving you water rention. My ankles started swelling the other day and rings are tight. I think it is fake weight, try to ignore it best you can. Easier said than done though.

Babieseverywhere · 19/06/2017 11:20

I need to join your thread.

I am ever so fat.

I lost 4.5 stone by watching my food intake on MFP and swimming, running and exercise classes. Took me a couple of years mind. Slow and steady is my aim.

However I got ill and over 18 months and put it all back on again :(

I currently have low vit D and iron which zaps my energy and makes me fall asleep all the time. Plus a bowel condition which makes me frightened of trying outside running again and I so miss running :(

So I am walking 11000 steps a day...mainly in the house. Watching my food intake again and 3 lbs down in the last 3 days.

Will try and catch up on everyone as you post :)

stealtheatingtunnocks · 19/06/2017 12:53

Thanks for the pep talk, folks.

Weighed myself yesterday, down a pound, yay! Weighed myself this morning, gained two...I really shouldn't use the scales.

However, I went for a swim and am noticeably fitter. I swam 50 lengths and felt good, still purple in the face, but, my front crawl is so much better - I used to be knackered after one length but today I did 20.

I'm impressed by the way you all manage to KOKO. It's very easy to think "ach, feck it"

There's a pump class I fancy tomorrow. Will aim to do an hour of out-of-puff exercise a day for the next two weeks and weigh then.

Bloody fat. It loves me, won't bloody leave...(also, I'll stop nibbling bits of biscuits/cakes/leftovers)

Alfieisnoisy · 19/06/2017 14:34

First running session went great...heat notwithstanding.

Took plenty of water and smothered myself in sun cream. It was six seconds of jogging and then 90 seconds of walking. It wasn't a huge distance but by the time I got back my step count was up to 7k so that was a plus.

BBQ tonight...got home made burgers and bought some sweet peppers to go with it all...plus Halloumi cheese.Grin

MirabelleTree · 19/06/2017 18:02

Well done Alfieisnoisy with the run, your dinner sounds delicious!

Stealthi don't think I could do 1 length front call , I stop breathing and drown! If you can break the scale habit that will probably help (Said by one who is not good at not standing on them). The exercise is great and really helps health but I think people say 80% of this is food.

On the virtual gastric band hypnosis there is a bit where she says the food is wasted whether it is left on the plate or you eat it. This resonated with me as I hadn't thought of food as being wasted in my body if that makes sense. It is helping a little with left overs so thought I'd put it on here in case it helps anyone.

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 19/06/2017 19:41

Mirabelle - I've been thinking about that 'waste' concept too. The food has been paid for - there's no getting that back, and if I've eating an extra 50p (for example) worth of food that my body doesn't need, then I'm not saving that 50p worth, it would just as well going in the bin. I'm working towards just buying less in the first place. I've not quite got to grips with it just yet, but it's what I'm aiming for Smile

OP posts:
Rumtopf · 20/06/2017 07:55

Mirabelle I think you're right about the water retention, I shall koko and ignore it. I know what I'm putting in my mouth shouldn't be causing a gain.
My legs and feet were so painful last night, I'd worn different sandals all day and did about 14k steps, they clearly aren't any good for my feet at all.

50 length front crawl is fantastic, that's not far off a mile!

I find the concept of waste really difficult, we were quite poor when I was a small child and my mother would go without food so I could eat. I'd pretend to be full halfway through my dinner so she would finish it and it's left me with lasting issues I think. We try to have as little food waste now as possible, but I've actually started to be able to leave food on my plate when I'm feeling satiated.

Those people who like watching the numbers go down and I am one of them....try this website to smooth the weights and give an overall indication weight loss/gain.

trendweight.com/dashboard/

You can manually add data (your weight) or it links to My Fitness Pal.

I have a wiFi Fitbit scale which links automatically to Fitbit, My Fitness Pal and Trend Weight !

So I weigh myself and I only count the weight actually lost when Trend Weight says I have lost it.

It avoids getting upset when high salt intake or hormones cycle has increased your weight seemingly overnight and tells you if overall you are doing ok.

Ps. You need at least 2 weeks of data to get any kind of accuracy on it.

Babieseverywhere · 20/06/2017 09:49

Stealth I did the same. Down 3 lbs at one weigh in and only 2 lbs the day after !

And I aways weigh myself on same scales in morning naked before my shower and even make sure scales are in the same spot on the floor. I still get widely altering figures.

Which is why I try and ignore the swings or check my figures on Trend weight instead.

Well done on the swimming. How often do you go ? How long did it take you to get so fit ?

stealtheatingtunnocks · 20/06/2017 10:46

Man, this thread is really helpful. I have a massive crush on you all. Haven't seen Trend - signing up.

waste - yip, if it's on my plate I'll eat it. No concept of eating till full. Anyone have a resource for figuring out what a portion is? I read palm of your hand = 1 portion, but, I'm not sure that's right.

I'm really enjoying my food - greek yogurt and fruit in the morning, salad and egg/prawns for lunch, salmon/chicken for dinner. Not missing bread or pasta. Trying to follow the high fat, low carb thing - and drinking loads of water.

I love swimming, it's the only time I really zone out. Can't manage mindfulness or meditation, but, swimming I just enjoy the water. Running or walking, I can feel my fat, when swimming, I don't. I used to swim a mile before work every day, I was still fat, but, I felt pretty fit. I'm now swimming 50 lengths in just under an hour, which isn't bad. I've been going three months, but, I'm going to go three times a week and walk/cycle/gym the other days.

Main problem with swimming is the bit between the changing rooms and the pool and the dealing with body hair. However, I've decided that I'm far better off going with fuzzy legs than not going. No one's looking at me anyway.

Totally agree about diet being the main thing - but, I definitely eat better when I've exercised. It's as if I don't want to mess up actual effort.

Babieseverywhere · 20/06/2017 11:30

I have a swimming pass for going with the kids at the weekend. Maybe I will risk going on my own. But I am right rubbish at swimming.

MirabelleTree · 20/06/2017 18:38

I'm working on that too Notractors Can't remember which country it is but I remember someone talking about a culture of leftovers for lunch. Did think that is a good way of doing it maybe, in our minds it wouldn't be 'wasted'. It is a bit alien to me the idea that food that is not needed by my body but in me is waste food and actually damaging but I am slowly getting there.

That's sad Rumtopf and I totally see how that can have an effect on your relationship with food. It is all so complicated isn't it? My elderly neighbour was putting biscuits out on a plate earlier and asked if I wanted chocolate ones and I had to say 'actually I don't really want any thank you, my Doctor won't be happy if I eat them very often but please don't let me stop you' . She looked really surprised then crestfallen a bit. She's elderly and making tea plus putting out biscuits is very much her ritual and things like that are important as she has a stroke. Food takes on so many different meanings in different situations, I'm finding it complicated. Sympathies on the sore feet, sounds very unpleasant.

Babieseverywhere that trend thing sounds good. If I can't crack the keeping off the scales Is there any other exercise that appeals?you can always work up to something, a fair few of us have found that walking gives good results and is much easier compared to the faffing that comes with swimming. I'm not knocking swimming as I like it but it takes a bit of organisation, or it does here just to work out the timetable !

Stealth I use Nutracheck for my calorie logging and it has portion sizes for things split into small, medium and large. I'm trying to use these as guides as much as possible. Cringing a bit when I think how much rice and pasta I used to have in one sitting. Re leg hair I'm attempting (and note the attempting) to keep on top of it with those Intuition razors with the soap around the blade as find can quickly whip over legs in shower whilst have conditioner on hair. But you are right, no one is looking,

NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/06/2017 18:39

I'm rubbish at swimming too, but it does feel good when I do it Smile I'd struggle a bit to do a full length, but I'm hoping to build up to it. Our local pool does 'stroke improvement' classes for adults, which I think I'll look into. I have a friend who uses it for mindfulness - she says you can't focus on anything else but swimming, or else you sink Grin

How is everyone coping in this heat? It's a bit cooler up here, but it was still pretty roasty in my office today. I may have had a solero lolly, which was most enjoyable Smile

OP posts:
NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/06/2017 18:41

Cross posted with Mirabelle! I didn't realise that Nutracheck does portion sizes, that's something I really need to get a proper grip on - will have a look Smile

OP posts:
MirabelleTree · 20/06/2017 18:51

I like Nutracheck but it isn't free like MFP and it is crashy on my phone. However overall I like it and feel it is worth the £30 a year for the app only version. Will post example of Nutracheck in a moment .

Tried to go upstairs but so hot have come downstairs as cooler, but that is relative. It's making me a bit grouchy now and would kill forva Solero..,

MirabelleTree · 20/06/2017 18:53

An example of Nutracheck.

Anyone looking to lose 100lbs in 2017 - Part 2
NoTractorsAtTheTable · 20/06/2017 20:11

Thanks Mirabelle - I think that might be worth investment. As much as I can track my calorie intake on MFP, I think I do need a shove towards 'this is actually the size of portion you should be having' and not just thinking that having a big-ish portion means I have fewer calories to spend elsewhere. Which is true, but means I'm no further forward in ascertaining what 'normal' should look like. I'm not sure if that ramble makes sense or not... too hot
