10st 9.3 this morning. I've finally upped my calorie goal to 1,370. I'm losing about 3/4 of a lb a day and it's probably not all that healthy so I'm going to listen to not and slow down a bit.

Porridge for breakfast with blueberries and half banana. Carrot soup for lunch with a slice of toast and three frozen frubes as a snack (got a bit carried away) pork chop and veg for tea but I will cut off the fat.

Not2bObvious · 25/05/2017 19:07

Oh my, what a long hot day. I only got about 4 hours sleep last night and while I wouldn't say I had a hangover, I wasn't at my best. Got 15k steps in so that's good but I'm proper zonked now. I've made my way through over 1800 cals but that's ok as I should burn close to 2300 today maintaining my 500 a day.
How are you getting on with the extra few cals dear?
Very well done on the pizza restraint red, the more you resist the easier it gets. Think of willpower as a muscle, the more you use it the stronger it gets😉

Not it was so hot last night! I hope you get some rest tonight. I really enjoyed the extra calories but me and DP have had a bad day and are turning to our emotional crutch of take out. I'm going to try and keep it under 2,000 for the day so fingers crossed it won't mean a gain.

Bathsheba3 · 26/05/2017 10:10

sorry to hear you had a bad day with dp yesterday Dear. Hope you are feeling brighter today. Close relationships are the killer when it comes to emotional eating. Flowers

Well, house party went well last night. Again far too much wine & food consumed to even think about the scales, but I did make it out for PT session this morning, & worked really hard. It is an absolute luxury, but I am loving it. And if I can work a few more hours a week to pay for it I shall. A bit of boxing is setting me up for the day perfectly. If I didn't eat so much I'm sure I would see some good muscle definition by now Wink

Not2bObvious · 27/05/2017 12:51

Afternoon all. Had a busy couple of days, did an hours jog yesterday morning plus another few thousand steps by keeping active. Got my class done this morning and a decent walk too. Scales is all over the place so I'm working on not letting that dishearten me. There's more positives to look at besides the scales, my fitness is improving a lot, I'm back into one of my size 10 jeans (albeit a tad snug) Some stuff to do in advance of tomorrow, I'd rather just go to bed for the rest of the day to be honest! No rest for the wicked though😉
Your evening sounded great bath, well done for not skipping the PT - that's v positive. Hope whatever was the upset is ok now dear

Do you add each other on MFP? Smile

drspouse · 27/05/2017 21:43

Future I wouldn't mind but I don't think people do in general.

I've been trying to count/keep under my total having put on about 6lb over Easter on holiday, I'm now back to only 2 1/2 lb over my starting weight so feel a bit less embarrassed and able to participate!

I usually have a day off on Saturdays but tend to just log in to keep my log-in streak. No specific exercise today but 261 cals from 10K steps.

Can't remember if I already said but I'm working on losing 1/2lb per week, I find slower is better!

I'm back. Gained 3lbs by eating crap for three days. So I'm back up to 10st 13lbs.

I just don't think I can let myself slip with calories because as soon as I start eating more I can't stop. So I'm back on 1,200.

It is hard Red but we can do it. Just willpower and get back up when we fall.

Sounds as though it's been a tricky weekend all-round for weight-loss. I've over-indulged too, including BBQ. But resisted coleslaw which I could eat by the tub (v calorific). Did manage a 10 km run yesterday morning which I was v pleased with. Frightened of the scales, so avoiding.

But interesting what you said about fitting into your size 10's not Star. I tried on various things, and everything feeling looser despite scales telling me otherwise. Conscious determination will power & everything to avoid wine, sugar and carbs for the next 2 weeks till squeezing into dress for wedding.

How did your party go Not? Had I asked? Hope you felt good & sparkled

Not2bObvious · 29/05/2017 11:47

Thanks for asking bath, it went great, my feet are in ribbons from the high heels though. Plenty of nibbling on my side too.
For the new recruits and us old timers, I've come to a bitter conclusion (since I joined team RH) but on the upside it's making sense to me and my head isn't as wrecked about this. It sounds simple and on a level we know it but I can see we aren't accepting it. I include myself in this, cause I struggle with it too. To lose a pound you have to cut/burn 3500 cals, to gain a pound you have to take in 3500 over your maintenance calories. My experience was I'd try stick to 1200 and I'd manage Monday to Thursday. I'd be down 2-4lb by Friday. I couldn't possibly have truly burned am extra 7000 to 14000 extra calories over 4 days, I wish!
Friday-Sunday, I would be so sick of self restraint I'd eat 2000-3500 each day, Monday I'd be 3-5 up on Fridays weight. And I didn't eat 21,000 to 35,000 extra calories over and above my normal maintenance calories. Devastation and repeat cycle. And even if you stick day in day out to 1200, there's still be a day you see a gain on the scale.
Work out what you burn, your tdee, subtract 500 calories. Be honest about what you eat, keep note of your weight and be patient. I've lost just under 4 pound in 2 weeks yet today's weight would make that under 2lb - but I know that's not true.

OP posts:
Not2bObvious · 29/05/2017 11:49

That should read nearly 4lb in 3 weeks, so around 1 pound a week

Glad you had a good time Not2b and well done on the loss. You make a really good point about the calorie deficit not realistically being enough for the loss. If it was possible to not go over board on the weekend do you think it would work then?

I had a quinoa, bean and falafel salad from the pub for lunch. I stupidly thought it would be easy to find out the calories online but I've looked everywhere and no luck. I have to assume it's pretty high because it was covered in guacamole. I've put it in at 800 but it's annoying not to know.

Not2bObvious · 29/05/2017 16:00

Imho, you can lose 1lb a week (not necessarily every week, over time) by cutting 500 calories a day, it can average out over the week. You can burn an additional 1lb with considerable effort, especially if you're not that overweight. If you want to get it off and keep it off, accept that it will take time - add a decent amount of exercise and make it part of your life going forward not just for weightloss, it's the key to maintenance, eat enough calories so you live not just exist. If you eat too little, you might binge. If you can burn 2000-2400 a day, you can eat 1500-1900 a day.
That's the end of my lecture for today😉

OP posts:
drspouse · 29/05/2017 16:31

Guacamole dressing is unlikely to have that many calories - an entire avocado is about 200. Why not look up a similar recipe online and put it in as if you'd cooked it?

Coleslaw high in calories? What are you making it with??! Mine's about 50 cals for a cup!

drspouse · 29/05/2017 16:34

And I agree about bingeing if you eat too little!

Dearohdeer · 29/05/2017 16:53

Drsspouse that's essentially what I did. Unfortunately the calories in falafel and quinoa are also pretty high and it was a very big portion. About 200 calories each for the avocado, quinoa and falafel and the beans, sweet corn, salsa and lettuce adds up to about another 200. I am probably being over cautious on the portion size estimates though.

Not2bObvious · 29/05/2017 16:58

Traditional coleslaw is made with mayo dr, so you can be looking at 250 calories for 100gr, and you wouldn't look twice at that amount, that's an average serving. Make it at home with a small amount of light mayo and it's fine.

OP posts:
drspouse · 29/05/2017 17:06

But you wouldn't put a whole avocado in the dressing?

Dearohdeer · 29/05/2017 17:56

It wasn't really a dressing it was a huge blob of the stuff. It covered about a third of the large bowl. I'm pretty convinced it could have been a whole avocado.

drspouse · 29/05/2017 21:59

Ha ha!

Anyway I'm over today by 16 and under yesterday by 340...

Have been very active both days with 13K steps yesterday! We'll see how the work week goes. I usually cycle to work on a Tues but I've got a rotten cold so I'll have to try for a day later in the week.
