Common Sense Eating

SouthernNorthernGirl · 11/02/2017 13:32

I wanted to start a thread about eating sensibly / healthily etc without any diet fads involved.
Would love a bit of support in this, and I'm sure there are others that feel the same.

Oh yes, I make broccoli and Stilton soup sometimes, though DH hates it and hates the smell when I cook it! But then he doesn't like cheese much -weirdo--. We call it 'sprouts of Hades soup'! I like it though.

I've been to Zumba this evening which is a tick off my list. I didn't do my yoga however, and food has been so so; dinner ended up being less healthy than planned as I ran out of time and just shoved freezer crap in the oven Blush. Planning is definitely key, as someone said up thread! No wine though, and breakfast and lunch were pretty good. Onwards and upwards tomorrow! Night everyone.

Also, well done runners!

flossisboss · 13/02/2017 22:03

Goodnight everyone, see you tomorrow for Weigh In Tuesday

KlingybunFistelvase · 14/02/2017 07:49

Weigh in day (eek)!

So it isn't great...

12st 2lbs today, which gives me a bmi of 25.8.

At my happiest weight I am 10 and a half stone, so would like to get back to that, but pre-baby I was 11 and a half which I was ok with too and was a healthy weight, so that might be my first goal.

Howlongtillbedtime · 14/02/2017 07:57

Double eek! Weighed in at 13.3 which is grim but today is the last time I will be this heavy !

I am a happy size 14 at 11 stone so that is my goal but my first goal has to be to get under 13 .

Good luck everyone .

On the soup topic I love chicken, veg or tomato and basil are favourites so if anyone has any good recipes I would be grateful.

PlumFairy2014 · 14/02/2017 08:18

Well 10st5.

That's 10lbs heavier than my holiday last August. I'm only 5"3 so it puts me in the overweight BMI too.

I think my aim in the long run will be 9st4 to put me happily in a healthy BMI. For this month a healthy BMI is my aim (10st2ish).

Good luck today everyone! I am looking at it your way klingy, this is the last time I will see that on the scales. unless we have another baby

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 08:39

Good morning everyone!

11st 9lb

Target weight is between 8.5 - 9st

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 08:40

Another 5'3"er here. I just do not carry extra weight well.

CashelGirl · 14/02/2017 08:44

I have skipped ahead from page one to join in. This sounds perfect for me. I am a bad dieter - know all the theory but the life of deprivation is not good for me. I am very overweight, early 40's and am currently working on building my fitness and stamina. Off to yoga in a few minutes!

SouthernNorthernGirl · 14/02/2017 08:48

Morning Smile

5'3" here too. I weighed in at 12st13 - I think that puts me in the obese range Sad

Welcome Cashel

Just wanted to say that whoever said that 'nothing is off limits' has done me a huge favour!

I had a pain au chocolat this morning (valentines day treat from DH) and immediately thought "ah my diet's ruined today so might as well start again tomorrow" and then realised what messed up thinking that is. Now thinking, I ate a treat, so what? I'll just mfp it and carry on! Love this thread.

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 09:42

That's the spirit Klingy!

KlingybunFistelvase · 14/02/2017 10:50

Cheers flossi. I do have a tendency to push the fuck it button if I slip up on a diet, so weirdly feel as if I've achieved somethingz

CashelGirl · 14/02/2017 11:45

Thanks SNG! Yoga was ace. I got a referral from my GP for the local Healthwise Scheme just before Christmas, and it has just got going now. So I get access to all local authority gyms and exercises classes for £14 a month. So, it's nothing fancy, but a really diverse group of attendees - all ages and fitness levels. Came home and had some buttered sesame ryvita, avocado and 2 boiled eggs and a cup of hot coffee. I have a chicken for dinner so think I might roast that and have with salad and crusty bread. Fairly easy dinner that most of the family will eat.

Klingon - well done. Hope you enjoyed your lovely Valentines breakfast!

badhotfanny · 14/02/2017 13:54

Afternoon all!

I'm 11 stone. Also 5 foot 3. Want to be 9 stone 9 or less.

Had quite a bit to eat yesterday, but had done my long run so not so bad.

Went running again this morning - only 3.5 miles though. Had quite a bit to eat now! Never mind. Bff is staying, so we're planning a valentines meal for 5! Steak, chips and prosecco later. Goal today is not to overeat.

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 17:24

Hope everyone is having a good day so far. I just ate a hot cross bun and really enjoyed it.

I have a friend who's a personal trainer. Her moto is 'start adding before you take away'. The idea is instead of cutting everything out cold turkey, you start cleaning up your habits (meals at regular times, be mindful about sugar etc), do more exercise and add healthy ingredients to your existing diet. Apparently people naturally start to make better choices and it's way more successful long term. I thought it was an interesting but totally logical approach.

PlumFairy2014 · 14/02/2017 17:31

That does make a lot of sense. I nearly fell off the wagon today, but thought of your fuck it button klingy and I did not hit that button! Still not an amazing day food wise, but SO much better than usual.

Thank you!

KlingybunFistelvase · 14/02/2017 17:40

Hurray for not pushing the fuck it button plum!

That's really interesting floss. That makes a lot of sense; when you start saying you're removing things, you automatically feel deprived which leads to binges maybe?

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 17:50

Well done Plum!

Yeah klingy I think it's very much psychological. Us humans have a perverse tendency to want what we can't have.

flossisboss · 14/02/2017 17:53

Oh, and bravo to everyone who's done yoga/running etc today. I only managed a brisk walk Hmm

badhotfanny · 14/02/2017 19:29

Nothing wrong with a brisk walk Smile

kneesupfatty · 15/02/2017 07:50

Morning ladies - can I also join you please as it sounds right up my street. I'm another 5'3"er who doesn't carry weight well and am sick of constant diets and the feeling of failure. I also have more than a sneaking suspicion that they're all damaging long term. I've lost half a stone since Jan by doing C25K and cutting down. I'm onto the 10k trainer now (still can't believe that I can run for nearly an hour?!) and loosely using mfp, mainly as a way of eating more mindfully. But, I'm not calorie counting every meal and am taking a long term approach - it's our half term this week so I'm happy to possibly not lose anything and have a few treats with ds. Then next week, I'll get straight back on with it. Currently 11st and hoping to get back down to 8-8.5 stones as have a very small frame.

flossisboss · 15/02/2017 09:22

Hi knees! Congratulations on your half stone. Sounds like your approach is perfect. I'm also small framed, even a few pounds makes a huge difference to how I look. I'm sometimes a little envious of my tall friends who can fluctuate by half a stone and not look like a sack of spuds.

Enjoy your half term treats Smile

Another brisk walk for me today Grin

badhotfanny · 15/02/2017 17:26

Today I have mostly been briskly eating chocolate Blush

Run tomorrow Smile

Submariner · 15/02/2017 17:55

Haven't been on in a couple of days. I'm not weighing yet because I haven't got any scales. Have requested some for my birthday in a few weeks.

I am definitely all or nothing. Monday was good food wise with a few extra healthy snacks to counteract my 4 mile run. Today I have had:
B - muesli and a cuppa
S - slice of Turkey, a plum and more tea
L - a big carrot, big hunk of cucumber and half a pot of humus
S - a cracker, half a slice of toast and Marmite (kids leftovers), a handful of mixed nuts and a satsuma
Tea will be sausages roasted with sweet potato, onions, apples and potato with a big pile of spinach
Supper will be a small portion of ice cream.

So I am shining my halo.

... Yesterday involved a butterscotch yum yum, sugary Cappuccino, crispy duck, pork dumplings, spring rolls, ice cream, wine AND chocolate. I hit that fuckit button pretty fucking hard. 😬 🙈

Submariner · 15/02/2017 17:57

Well done everyone who's been restrained with their treats, and hello all you runners! Including (especially) c25k newbies - we've all been there. You are awesome!
