Common Sense Eating

SouthernNorthernGirl · 11/02/2017 13:32

I wanted to start a thread about eating sensibly / healthily etc without any diet fads involved.
Would love a bit of support in this, and I'm sure there are others that feel the same.

Well done to all the runners out there. I love the feeling of being sore after a good workout. Makes me feel really toned even if I'm not! Grin

I had quite a few cookies today. Oh well. Now my evening is about to start I'm going to try and not add any more sugar to that. Sigh.

Good luck all.

kneesupfatty · 07/03/2017 20:09

That's amazing, Sub, you must be really proud of yourself! Star

Daisy17 · 07/03/2017 22:05

Can I join too, please?! I've been doing Sensible Eating since the autumn and lost a stone (whoop!) but have now plateaued and need the encouragement to keep going with it - ideally to lose another half stone and take me back to pre-DC2!

Daisy17 · 07/03/2017 22:08

I'm loving the idea of the FuckIt button which you choose not to hit. Brilliant!

Lalunya85 · 07/03/2017 23:01

daisy hello! I'm new here since today too, and also trying to lose around half a stone. Which would also bring me back to pre DC2!

So well done on losing a stone since autumn! Why do you think things are stagnating at the moment? Are you doing something differently?

Submariner · 08/03/2017 06:55

Hi Daisy and Lalunya!
Great work Daisy, a stone since Autumn is really good!

Thanks kneesup, I am very chuffed. It is certainly the biggest physical challenge I've ever undertaken. I used to hide in the back of the class at PE in school. Don't know why running clicks for me. Maybe it's because I can be slow and steady and still feel like I've achieved something.
You'll be doing one next year! Wink

flossisboss · 08/03/2017 11:21

Sub well done on your half marathon! That's incredible!

knees hope your jaw is OK today. I lost 5 lbs in 3 days when I had my wisdom teeth out Shock

Hi to Lalunya and Daisy! I think I'm in plateau at the moment too after losing just over a stone. Not sure what to do about it so I'm going to Google later and see if there's any (reputable) advice. Will share anything I think might be helpful.

goingonabearhunt1 · 10/03/2017 16:00

Hi, can I join?

I have recently downloaded MFP as I have made some changes in my diet/exercise routine (or lack thereof) and amazingly have managed to lose 5 lbs in just over a week.

I am actually amazed (thought my scales were broken at first!) So for me the tracking of everything I eat is working. I have never tracked what I've eaten before and think I probably kidded myself a lot re portion sizes/little snacks etc but now I have to log it all I am able to balance it out much more.

I have also started exercising again which helped, now I swim once a week and do yoga 1-2 times a week. I've never been one for the gym or running or anything like that but I enjoy certain activities. I LOVE yoga, makes me feel so good and relaxed afterwards. I also walk everywhere as neither me nor DP drive.

I want to get down to 10st ideally (currently 10.6st).

goingonabearhunt1 · 10/03/2017 16:07

And yy to the idea of not 'dieting'. I've always thought that was a crazy notion and some 'diets' just seem so unhealthy (I remember a friend when I was younger having a fry-up whilst telling me eating bananas was 'bad' when she was on Atkins or something similar).

Hello going, Daisy & Lalunya Smile

Ha Lalunya, snap! I think it's a mix of my birthday falling in Feb half term and letting myself have more treats and getting used to them again and also complacency - despite those treats I didn't put on any weight and so I am tempted to just stay where I am!!

flossisboss · 13/03/2017 13:54

Hi everyone, how are you getting on?

Sub did you have a good birthday weekend?

Well done Going 5lb in a week is amazing!

Tattersail I'm having the same challenge - March is birthday month in my family and friendship group, so have had dinners etc to go to every week.

I went out on Friday with friends for my belated birthday drinks. My mfp log for that day was slightly ridiculous - "Breakfast: bacon sandwich. Lunch: banana. Dinner: bottle of red wine." Blush Miraculously, though, I stayed within my calorie allowance Shock

kneesupfatty · 13/03/2017 17:02

Well done for staying in your calorie allowance Floss - sounds like a perfectly balanced diet! Wink

I didn't have a great week last week as my dh was on holiday all week and proved to be a terrible influence I am easily led. However, all the indulgences were counteracted by the wisdom tooth, so, luckily, I've broken even. I finished nightshifts this morning, so I'm having a total slob day today, but I've got a shopping list ready for tomorrow and am ready to get back to it!

SouthernNorthernGirl · 13/03/2017 18:20

Tattersail You should eat if you're hungry! It's got to be realistic, please don't starve yourself. I'm trying to keep it at a point where I'm hungry, but comfortably so - enough to be looking forward to my next meal, though no more than that.

I think upping water intake sounds like a good idea - I know I sometimes don't feel satisfied when I've eaten a lot, and drinking tea helps me too. Although I mainly come down with something a week or so after starting to feel like that - could that be it?

I've had a bad couple of weeks but back on it today. Unfortunately I have a meal out planned for tomorrow .

Well done to everyone else.

flossisboss · 13/03/2017 23:43

👀 i see you poorpaws! Enjoy your meal out tomorrow! I am also joining the 'must get back on track' chant. The Fuck It Button has been tantalising me for days tonight.

poorpaws · 14/03/2017 22:56

floss the meal especially the dessert was lovely! Back on it tomorrow with no more excuses.

flossisboss · 16/03/2017 09:58

RANT ALERT!

Does anyone else find it really stressful when people try to push food on you?

Had this last night from old family friend (in my own kitchen). "Don't you want some of this? Why not? Just try some. Are you sure? Aren't you hungry?" I'M FUCKING FAT! VISIBLY, DANGEROUSLY FAT! I had to explain about 5 times that I was cutting down on certain things even though they've known I'm doing this for ages. I hate it. And passing it off as being "kind and caring" is bollocks. It's not kind or caring to try to force food on someone who's visibly overweight and attempting to do something about it Sad

Sorry about that! Rant over.

Glad you had a lovely meal poorpaws! It's so nice to enjoy treats.

goingonabearhunt1 · 16/03/2017 17:31

I find people are always keen to push food on you and always think you're just being polite if you say you don't want any/any more.

I find it strange, like it's normal for people to just be eating all day long and if you don't you must be uptight or something.

Offices can be really bad for it with all the cake pushers! Grin

kneesupfatty · 16/03/2017 17:50

Yes - people do seem to, subconsciously or not, want to sabotage others' diets. I'm not really sure why....

goingonabearhunt1 · 16/03/2017 17:57

Also when you go to people's houses and they pile the plates really high! It's really hard to say no without seeming rude. I don't like eating a lot at once though. I do eat a lot but over an extended period IYKWIM so looking at a piled plate can be a bit overwhelming.
