Happy New Year Slenderistas.

Let's move away from the Christmas bugger and ditch Linda for good.

That's quite the way to get through a Wednesday lastqueen!

BOOP I always forget you still have school-age kids, how on earth do you manage to be such a glamorous jet-setter?

Sorry to hear we've got collectively stuck scales - I bet it's something to do with the colder weather kicking in some ape instinct to hold on to it or something.

I am definitely starting to look slimmer everywhere except my belly - I think having slimmer waist and hips is actually exacerbating it, even when I first wake up I look like I'm in the early stages of pregnancy Confused Maybe it's something to do with my uterus' strange behaviour

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2017 10:18

Well they are teens now, not primary age. But I still take dd2 to school as it's a bit if s trek.

Erm I take short breaks. They stay with their dad. They are old enough to stay 1 or 2 nights alone now. Or I take them with me Grin

But honestly most of my life is just hum drum. So far this morning I've hoovered wellie induced mud off the hall carpet and emptied the dishwasher. Not glam at all usually. Promise!

Morning! Seems we are all suffering from a slow loss this week after a big loss last week! I think it must be our bodies adjusting, it will come off, it will come off, I keep chanting this to keep motivated!
Feeling pretty pleased with myself this morning, went back to the gym after 2 years Shock and started ct5k. Didn't raise a sweat so carried on running and did 12 mins non stop which is MASSIVE for me, Boop will tell you I am the most unfit, exercise hating person in the world ! I couldn't run for a bus Blush
So I'm feeling really good. Had an online chat with WW lady yesterday as no loss since last Friday, she confirmed I'm not eating enough and told me to weigh once a week, but it's so hard! I need to see it coming off to stay motivated Confused!

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 10:44

Chardonnay I've heard this not-eating-enough-slowing-losses thing before, what's the deal with it? Just that your metabolism stalls?

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 10:51

BOOP LALALA not listening to any more of your complaints, you're an icon whether you like it or not with your "let's just nip over to Marrakesh for a bit of sun" ways Grin Are the BOOPlets coming on any of your upcoming jaunts?

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 10:52

Chardonnay forgot to say well done on smashing out 12 minutes continuously, it's years since I could do that!

Chardonnay73 · 12/01/2017 10:56

Apparently so Quim . Your body stores fat as it doesn't have enough to do basic functions so goes into survival mode. Ultimately you will lose as it's basic physics if you need 2000 calories a day to survive and eating 800-1000 ( which I probably am ) but it's slower than if you are on 1200 a day. Thing is, I'm do desperate to lose it now I've decided to do it ( only taken me 6 years 🙄) that I feel guilty if I eat anything!

Chardonnay73 · 12/01/2017 10:57

Thanks Quim I'm rather proud of myself too. Smile

TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/01/2017 11:04

I'm stuck too - back up a lb, grr! Pink, I'm fasting too! It should be slightly easier today because I didn't have dinner til 9pm last night, so the gap between meals isn't that long yet.

Kiki, I hope you're right about the muscle ache=retained water! I Shredded twice (Tues and Wed) and did trampoline last night and I'm a bit achy. Rest day today.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2017 11:06

OK Quim I'm happy to be styled this thread's Jackie-O type icon Grin

You are doing so well Chard (I might start calling you that IRL!) you should be proud. What are you having for lunch today?

OP posts:
TooExtraImmatureCheddar · 12/01/2017 11:07

Chardonnay, but how does that work if you aren't very slim with tiny fat reserves? I have enough fat on my haunches to live off for a month without starving! Can't your body tell that it has all that to use first before it needs to worry about reducing your metabolism?

00100001 · 12/01/2017 11:09

I thought your body likes to hold on to fat "just in case"?

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2017 11:10

Your body can't "live off fat".

Quim I usually drink maybe one weekend a month?
I'd forgotten what a terrible idea midweek drinking is Envy

Chardonnay73 · 12/01/2017 11:28

TBH I don't really understand it, I have plenty of fat so why my body thinks it needs to hold onto it is beyond me! I'm just repeating what the WW lady said!
Boop I'm having a grill up with lean bacon and 3 poached eggs and mushrooms 😇

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 11:31

Mmm, Binary's right, holding on to fat is what our bodies do best, as much of it as possible. You can't blame it, it's a function which kept us alive for thousands and thousands of years, it's only in the past 40 or 50 of them that it's started to bite us in the sizable bum...

Chardonnay intermittent fasting gets around that very effectively, it stops your body from stopping and going "hold up, what happened to all the food?" Maybe you could intersperse 800-100cal days with 1200 ones?

Chardonnay73 · 12/01/2017 11:35

That's a good idea Quim, I may try that!

HairsprayBabe · 12/01/2017 11:37

"starvation mode" is a myth

www.nowloss.com/starvation-mode-myth.htm

If you eat less than you use in terms of energy every day you will lose weight. It just might come off slower if you have been dieting longer because as you lose weight there is less of you to keep going.

It is slightly different in women because we fluctuate with water gain etc. but fat wise if you aren't eating enough you will not be gaining.

Don't forget about going to the loo, if you haven't been in a day or so then you could just be weighing the food still sat in your digestive system.

Chardonnay73 · 12/01/2017 11:37

I'm off out for dinner on Saturday so will eat more than I've had for 2 weeks, with wine! Lovely lovely wine 🍷 😬 Perhaps that will shock my body into thinking it's not in a famine 😂

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 11:37

I believe the "starvation mode" thing is quite misunderstood, although it's bandied around a lot.

QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 11:42

X-post with Hairspray!

Chardonnay I'm experimenting with increasing my calories throughout the week. Still keeping them low, but actively trying to eat more day on day as the week goes on. I'll keep you posted...

lastqueen Tell me about it! I am not nearly as good as you but I don't drink M-Thurs any more unless I'm out, and whenever I am I wake up the next morning feeling hellish - I don't know how I used to do it!

HairsprayBabe · 12/01/2017 11:54

Ooop! Sorry Quim

But yes intermittent fasting can help to give you a boost as it reduces your number of calories ingested over all over time.

I really need to quit snacking full stop, as it spikes your blood sugar, even an apple or some nuts! And that can make the Lindas a bit more sticky.

ArseyTussle · 12/01/2017 12:37

Oh god, oh god, I'd crawl through broken glass for a packet of biscuits today.

BitOutOfPractice · 12/01/2017 13:09

Distract yourself Arsey!

OP posts:
QuimReaper · 12/01/2017 13:23

My fault not yours Hairspray! Agree on snacking / grazing, it's such a bad habit but so hard to break, especially when you're bored.

Oh Arsey be strong! My tip when you're craving something is to put something really strong-tasting in your mouth to zap it. My poison is a teaspoon of neat Marmite. It's very difficult to dwell on biscuits while you can taste Marmite!
