A support thread for 2017 dieters.

who is planning to start a new diet/exercise regime in the new year and what diet are you planning on following?

Not sure whether I should follow a particular diet or simply cut back on food, I'm not sure I'd know what to do without guidance.

Please share your plans.

All mfp, yes. It's a way of life now and not intrusive at all.

Fitbit was also key. I'm a competitive monkey and having a daily target got me off my bum like nothing else ever has.

Well done Bonnie. I love soup and how filing it is. My go to hot but light lunch.

nicetoseeyoutoseeyounice · 07/01/2017 14:06

stellar I'm doing a dry January as my weekly bottle of wine was ruining my diet. I'm finding it really difficult but determined to at least see it through for the month.

SuzySoo · 07/01/2017 14:14

I've found the week ok - a big change to not be snacking on sugary treats of an evening, but I've enjoyed the food and am definitely sleeping better. I think once I've broken my old habits, things will seem easier...the weekend is always a bit tricky though. I've been out for a long walk, which I really enjoyed, and I'm going to an exercise class this afternoon too. I'm planning a nice evening meal from my plan for tonight so I don't feel deprived.

Stick with it everyone!!

Dizzywizz · 07/01/2017 17:44

Went to yo sushi for lunch, and we're making a curry for tea as I bought dh curry club sub as a Xmas pressie, but the curry is yogurt rather than cream/. Still will be way over calorie allowance today though 🙈

ghostspirit · 07/01/2017 18:45

I started my diet on Wednesday weighing 14 stone. I'm now 13.12. I'm eating veg for the first time in my adult life Blush

Today I have eaten a banana. Small pork chop with the fat cut of. Boild potatoes and mixed veg.

And a rice cake.

CharleyDavidson · 08/01/2017 00:13

I started my diet on Wednesday and doubt I've made any difference so far.

Although I avoided too many treats, I made not very good choices. I ate breakfast when I don't normally one day. And had bread with my soup at work, which I won't do in the week ahead.

I have 6 weeks to get into a dress - that should be good motivation.

I just am rubbish at motivation!

On the plus side, my zumba class starts back on Wed and I have food for sensible, healthy meals in the fridge/freezer.

No snacking after my evening meal is the biggest thing that I can crack to make sure I lose weight.

Dizzywizz · 08/01/2017 06:11

CharleyDavidson I'm the same about snacking after the eve meal. I am resisting so far, I brush my teeth with the children when they go to bed so then I don't want to eat more.

Lucy7400 · 08/01/2017 07:50

I switched to gin and tonic last night to save calories and ended up triggering terrible heartburn. I am going to cut alcohol out for the rest of the month to see if my heartburn is reduced.

I noticed for the first few days of the diet that I was sabotaging myself by eating too much rubbish, which once I start I cant stop. So I am also cutting out all the junk food. Its not a long term plan but as I dont want to count calories or follow a plan at the moment it may be the best option.

I have two goals to help along the way. My DS birthday next month (7 weeks) where I really want to be under 12 stone. Then 5 weeks after that I have an old school friends 40th where there will be loads of people I havent seen for 20+ years. I want to be under 11 stone for that for sure.Blush

Dizzywizz · 08/01/2017 15:16

Anyone else gone off the rails this weekend ? Too much snack food and not making viable plans 😭

I'd done so well in the week, not looking forward to weigh in tomorrow...

ghostspirit · 08/01/2017 16:09

How often are people weighing them selves. I'm meant to be doing it once a week. But it's hard. Not to step on them 15 times a day

So far today I had Musli for breakfast. 2 small baked rolls with ham. No butter but a tiny bit of salad cream. And fat free yogurt. for lunch. And a go ahead rasin biscuit thingy. For a snack. All I think about is food I'm waiting to cone of the rails. Hope not its not even been a week. Hmm

PhyllisWig · 08/01/2017 19:03

Ghost I weigh pretty much every morning. I skip the first couple of days of my period as I just don't see the point but otherwise I hop on post loo, pre shower. Keeps me focused and I've learned loads about my menstrual cycle - I bloat more at ovulation than period for example. If I only did it once a week and it was a hormoney day or one when I'd had loads of salt I'd be demotivated and give up. Daily weighing let's me see the trend.

Good day today - loads of walking, swim and yoga. Lots of veg too and all prepped for the week. I tried a skirt I hadn't worn for a few months on though and it was too tight :(

Dizzywizz · 08/01/2017 19:32

I'm weighing once a week. It scares me more. Daily I just think I can make up for any gain.

ghostspirit · 08/01/2017 19:43

I'm the opposite. It makes me feel hopeless. So I kind of ignore myself when I weigh myself to much. Only Wednesday counts.

I'm kind of shocked by portion sizes.

My excersize is not great. But all my kids are at school tomorrow so no baby sitters. So I have to take both baby's with me they weigh 1 stone 11 each. So hoping that extra weight will help burn up some fat/calories when I'm walking.

wig I'm sure you will get there. is to get into that skirt a goal?

ghostspirit · 08/01/2017 19:58

I only ate half an hour ago and I feel hungry already that sick feeling you get when have not eaten.

Dizzywizz · 09/01/2017 06:03

Just weighed in and have lost half a stone! I know it's mainly water weight in the first week, but at least it's off!

ghostspirit · 09/01/2017 10:38

Why am I not loosing weight. I'm sticking to the right fat and calories intake. If anything it's a bit lower. Started diet on Wednesday just gone on have only lost 2 or 3 pounds. I know that is still a lose and average. But partner has lost half a stone barstard

bonnieweelass · 09/01/2017 19:27

ghost you don't seem to be eating much fruit or veg. These are low calories and good for you. They might fill you up a bit. Although I'm one to talk as I hate fruit and veg myself.

Also try soups?

ghostspirit · 09/01/2017 19:34

I normally have veg with my meal. And I eat fruit to but have not done today. I need to do a fruit shop.

ghostspirit · 09/01/2017 19:41

Oh bonnie I did not see the end of your message I never liked veg either since I was a kid. I only started eating it a couple of weeks ago.

Dizzywizz · 09/01/2017 20:40

Ghost over a week that could be 4-6lbs, not far off half a stone!!

ghostspirit · 09/01/2017 21:01

Yeah I know just feel like I can't be bothered. I want kfc Grin I think it's getting over the cravings. Guess once I get over that phase I will be ok. My proper weighing day is Wednesday. So see how it gos.

nicetoseeyoutoseeyounice · 10/01/2017 00:03

Well dry January lasted all of 9 days. Oh well. Back on the diet wagon tomorrow! At least I went to the gym today so not so bad lol

SuzySoo · 10/01/2017 09:09

Well done Dizzywizz that's an amazing loss!! 3lbs down here, so happy with that Smile.

ghostspirit · 10/01/2017 12:08
