A support thread for 2017 dieters.

who is planning to start a new diet/exercise regime in the new year and what diet are you planning on following?

Not sure whether I should follow a particular diet or simply cut back on food, I'm not sure I'd know what to do without guidance.

Please share your plans.

I signed up to ww last week. I have lost three stone and kept it off when I did sw for a bit a few years ago but found it didn't really help with my major problem, portions. Smart points seems like a much better fit for me.

I spent a long time planning out three months worth of menu's and shopping lists (and pointed and saved the recipes in the app thingy)

I WILL not be fat this time next year. I'm doing it for me but I'd be lying if I said I wasn't fantasizing about how I'm going to wriggle my slim arse at my nightmare relatives that thought it would be ok to comment on my weight this year.

Bibs2014 · 01/01/2017 10:39

Weighed in at 11 st 1 and 3/4. First goal is to get back into the 10 stone bracket.

Lucy7400 · 01/01/2017 11:07

You are on the road to recovery now Thumbcats. I empathise with not realising how out of hand it can get. I have always struggled with my weight but since turning 40 I have ballooned. Not helped by going through a horribly emotional time for the last 18 months which has left me with an ongoing depression. But this is a new start. We can do this. Smile

Happy New Year all!!!

My diet plan has arrived so I'm filling in my meal planner from the recipes and am heading out to stock up with food this afternoon - I'm assuming supermarkets will be open today..?!

I'm really geared up for this - the food looks really good, it's 3 meals and the option of up to 2 snacks a day, and the recipes are all stuff that I'm happy to feed to everyone else in the family too.

Hope everyone's feeling optimistic and ready to get going - I'm starting tomorrow, when is everyone else getting going?

Dizzywizz · 01/01/2017 15:48

SuzySoo what diet are you doing? I'm weighing in tomorrow, but actually will start Wednesday when I go back to work.

Titsywoo · 01/01/2017 15:59

Hi all and happy new year :)

I need to lose 4-5 stone this year (I need to have an operation but want to be a healthy weight first and 4 stone 9lbs takes me to BMI of 25). I'm not going to follow any particular diet I'm just cutting out alcohol completely, upping my fruit and veg massively and cutting out processed crap.

Exercise wise I'm going to do this and some exercise DVDs (I have several Davina ones that I have never used!).

Will weigh and measure myself in the morning to get a starting point and will take photos too as that inspired me when I lost weight several years ago.

Whosthemummynow · 01/01/2017 16:07

Just found this thread,

I'm 3 stone heavier than I was this time last year Sad

I've sat down today, worked out how much I need to lose (5st9lb Shock) and started slimming world again.

Blown the dust off the fitbit and popped it on charge. It will be new year. New me!

Karcheer · 01/01/2017 16:27

Started this morning well. Had a protein shake, then jogged/walked for 35mins on the treadmill, had a handful of almonds. Then went for a walk in the forest with my friend and my dogs, we got absolutely drenched! Came home had a duck leg, packet of crisps and half a dozen ferrero rocher :(

thumbcats · 01/01/2017 17:01

Thank you Bonnie and Lucy.

I hadn't really thought of it as a recovery but I guess you're right. The test will be whether I can keep it all up when work starts to take over. I'm trying to put plans in place now so that when I'm exhausted I don't just eat whatever is easiest.

ghostspirit · 01/01/2017 17:36

I'm looking to loose about 3 stone. I just looked at slimming world seems exspensive.

bonnieweelass · 01/01/2017 19:12

karcheer

I haven't actually used it yet, need to get some ingredients and shops are closed. Its only just arrived.

ooooh thumbcats starting to wonder if you are me?! work gets in the way here too, I'm just too busy and exhausted to think about what I'm putting in my mouth too.

My mum wants me to go with her to a clubbing exercise class. she thinks its 90s pop, not 90s club classics. I said absolutely not as nightclubs were never my scene nor can I keep up with the videos on their facebook page (which she evidently hasn't looked at). I need to lose a few stone before I would consider an exercise class. Prefer to exercise at home first or go for walks.

And thanks to who mentioned fitbit, I need to charge mine!

Dizzywizz I'm doing a diet plan from Freedom Diet Coach.

Dizzywizz · 01/01/2017 20:39

Ah thanks SuzySoo (sorry not sure can bold names on my phone, and not sure if I am supposed to - does it send you a notification or something?)

Dizzywizz · 01/01/2017 20:39

Well I'm going to sleep in a minute, just had a mince pie, tiny slice of Xmas cake and 3 chocolate marzipan :( but I have chucked away some fudge, and that is the last of the marzipan gone now.

thumbcats · 01/01/2017 21:44

Bonnie haha, I think it's a very common thing!! I'm just so tired but also starving, so it's easy to eat a whole packet of biscuits +++

One of the things I talked to my gp about was how I find it so difficult to manage meal planning. I do all the food shopping so it's easy to slip in high calorie foods. I was surprised at how understanding she was, she said it must be so hard when you've had a long day at work then to have to buy food for dinner. It's one of the things I want to focus on changing.

So...I've gone through next week on mfp and planned all my meals and snacks while also putting in a Sainsbury's order. I've been surprised how much food 1400 calories is (when you eat the right things!). Deep down I knew this, but it's so much easier to reach for the crisps than chop a carrot up into batons.

Dizzywizz · 02/01/2017 06:26

I'm starting today at 13 stone 3 lbs...only 10lbs lighter than when I gave birth to ds2 (2)!!

Stellar67 · 02/01/2017 08:00

Same as me Dizzy.

Conscious effort today. I'm going to drink a lot of water.

CharleyDavidson · 02/01/2017 14:23

I will weigh myself tomorrow for an official starting weight as it's when I'm back at work.

I have a dinner dance to go to at the end of Feb, so I have good motivation for the next 8 weeks to do as well as I can. I always maintained at about 12.4 with zero effort for many years. Then I had a health condition diagnosed and medication prescribed and gained a stone and a half. So I'm trying to get myself down to 12 something as an initial goal.

I have an exercise bike. I sometimes sit pedalling on it while watching food network programmes. I have seen that HIIT exercises are very good for you and saw Michael Mosely using a bike to do it. Basically, you pedal as furiously as you possibly can for a minute. It's supposed to be as effective as longer periods of easier exercise.

I will find the days easy - I don't bother with breakfast and have the same simple lunch at work 5 days a week. If I meal plan then I can cook and eat sensible dinners no problem. It's the snacking and trawling the kitchen wanting something sweet to eat that I need to knock on the head - but it's sooooo hard!

Dizzywizz · 02/01/2017 16:16

Yy Charley to the looking for a sweet hit - this is definitely me! My meals are very good and healthy (they have to be - I eat with the kids). If I have lunch on my own it's soup, no bread. But once the kids have gone to bed...

Titsywoo · 02/01/2017 16:22

So I weighed and measured:-

Weight - 14st 10.25lbs
Waist - 39 inches
Widest part - 50 inches
Chest - 46.5 inches

Yikes! I've written it all down along with a list of health issues that I think are down to being obese. I figure I will forget if they start to decline and it would be good to look back and see how far I have come (hopefully will stop me regaining it!).

Today I had scrambled eggs on one toast for breakfast but have bought smoked salmon today so I can drop the toast tomorrow (I was not adequately prepared!) and for lunch I had veggie noodles (small portion of course!). Not sure on dinner but will be doing my online shop tonight so I can stock up on the healthy stuff. Also chucked out a load of leftover xmas goodies (better in the bin than in my belly!).

Whosthemummynow · 02/01/2017 19:45

Today I weighed in. 18st1 🙈 I've 5ft10 so I carry it well, but jesus! That the biggest I have EVER been.

Feeling motivated tho
Breakfast today was:
Bubble and squeak
2 eggs
Ham

Lunch:
Ryvita
Cottage cheese
Cucumber

Dinner:
Veggie sausages
Cabbage
Brocolli
Carrots
Onions
Gravy

Snacks:
Chicken
Mini cheddars

I'm following sw, this is my first day "on plan" in a very long time

Lucy7400 · 03/01/2017 08:30

Morning all. I tried to start on the 27th but various christmas foods kept jumping up into my mouth Confused.

I am now 2lbs more than I was a week ago which is 3lbs total over christmas .It feels much more though.I caught sight of myself in the mirror yesterday and saw my lovely, but obese mum looking back at me. I am starting to get her jowels Shock.

My first goal is to get to 12.10 by the end of Jan.I want to avoid diets if I can so plan on reducing portions, half the plate should be veg, only snacking if really hungry and only then if its a small amount of protein such as a small handful of nuts. Drink water and herbal tea once I have had my morning coffee and alcohol on saturdays only. If this plan of mine doesnt work I will do 5.2.

Today I am having:

Coffee and two small slices of french bread with butter and jam.

Jacket potato with baked beans.

Home made meat balls (made with quorn) and rice.

I am going to do a massive clear out of the house today so wont do any specific excercise.

I am going to report in daily with my weight and planned food for the day.

Best of luck everyone.

Lucy7400 · 03/01/2017 12:57

Duh! Emotional eating alert. Just spoke to my brother about my estranged (and strange) father and immediatley ate chocolate without thinkingHmm. Its only 4 squares and I recognised it so it could be worse. But Grrrrr.

Whosthemummynow · 03/01/2017 13:53

lucy 4 squares haven't ruined anything.
Don't let this ruin your day Smile
