A support thread for 2017 dieters.

who is planning to start a new diet/exercise regime in the new year and what diet are you planning on following?

Not sure whether I should follow a particular diet or simply cut back on food, I'm not sure I'd know what to do without guidance.

Please share your plans.

Me too please.

I need to lose about 3.5 stone. Might be more with the christmas eating. I have always struggled with my weight but since turning 40, its got out of hand. I hate diets, especially any that involve counting and weighing so I am going to try cutting out the crap and reducing portions. I am not going to totally cut out snacks but definitley reduce them. I think 7lbs goals are achievable. I am off to weigh myself Xmas Hmm. I will report back.

Lucy7400 · 27/12/2016 09:11

Drum roll .... weight is 13 st 3lbs which seeing as I am only 5ft 4 , its pretty Blush.

Only 2lbs more than before christmas though.

My goals are

7lbs - 12st 10lbs
7lbs - 12st 3lbs
7lbs- 11 st 10lbs
7lbs -11st 3lbs
7lbs - 10st 11lbs
7lbs - 10st 3lbs
5lbs - 9st 12lbs.

bonnieweelass · 27/12/2016 14:34

I'm not starting til January, but I've already annoyed my mother by refusing to go a walk.

In my defence I have a bug but my mother expects weight loss miracles in 24 hours and nothing short of dying classes as being unwell.

lucy don't feel so bad. I'm 5'5 and about 16 stone, size 18/20. Will weigh myself properly when I start in the new year.

CharleyDavidson · 27/12/2016 14:38

I can't be doing with following official diet plans.

I will be (after the new year) be....
Eating breakfast only if I'm hungry.
Having a simple lunch at work of soup and fruit.
Having a normal portion of dinner that's not indulgent.
No evening snacking at all.

CharleyDavidson · 27/12/2016 14:38

And going to one or two exercise classes a week.

Sung · 27/12/2016 15:01

The only thing I have definitely decided upon is that I am only weighing in every 3 months - so 1st Jan, 1st Apr, 1st Jul and 1st Oct...and so on (or thereabouts) and doing measurements then too.

Daily weighing definitely works better than weekly for me but both of these fail when I hit a STS that lasts longer than a week - doesn't matter how much I tell myself it is normal/ok etc. it is generally the beginning of the end.

I've tried (for longer than a couple of weeks): Weight Watchers (Old points), Slimming world, Slim and Save (VLCD - very successful 1st time round but definitely NOT doing that again) and MFP but I don't like the idea of any of them now. Thinking it needs to be more plain old cutting out the rubbish and moving more towards sugar free/Amelia Freer type eating.

More Walking, Pilates, Swimming to strengthen back before upping the exercise to anything else.

Feeling hopeful and overwhelmed at the same time. Been here to often...

hayser33 · 27/12/2016 23:02

I'm sure I've put half a stone on the lAston few days..I've not.weighed myself in months. Last time I did I was over 13 and I'm 5 ft 4. Good idea to only weigh yourself once every 3 months. My first aim Is for my size 16s to be dropping off me

Karcheer · 28/12/2016 10:28

I've just weighed myself and I'd like to weigh 5.6kg less.
I've only once weighed more than I do now and that was about ten years ago after a messy breakup. Being 43 it feels like if I don't get a grip the weight will just slowly creep up.
I'm going to cut out the junk which will be hard as my dh buys a lot of it but doesn't eat it and I do. That should take care of the sugar, and going low/good carbs. Plus Kayla itsines for exercise.

Lucy7400 · 29/12/2016 23:36

I havent had the best few days. I am off until next week so far too much lolling about going on. But today was better. I did 30 mins yoga courtesy of youtube. Ate greek yogurt but was hungry half an hour later so ate some christmas cake. I have become used to eating so much more over christmas that I am finding I am hungry between meals which is unusual. I made veggie soup for lunch which was eaten without bread and then we went out for dinner. I ate half my portion of chips and a halloumi burger but made up for it with 2 glasses of prosecco and a hot choc (avoided biscuits though) All in all, not a bad day but could be better.

StrumpersPlunkett · 30/12/2016 00:55

Hi ladies can I try to join?
I dot this every year.
But due to various illnesses this year I have lost a stone and it has given me hope.
I have sketched out this plan.
Start 2017
199lb
10% =20lb
2lb per week = 10 weeks

10 weeks = 7th March
Target = 7th March 179lb or 12 stone 7lb

10% of 179lb = 18lb
10 weeks = 15th May

Target 15th May 161lb or 11stone 5lb

I know it is optimistic but dh has bought me gym membership for Christmas. I have bought a little Fitbit one to have in my pocket at work.
I have planned lunches instead of buying a sarnie and crisps.
I am going to ban eating in the car. ''Tis my absolute downfall.
Fingers crossed!

Dizzywizz · 30/12/2016 04:37

Hello, can I join too? I just keep putting weight on! I am 5.1 and 13.1 stone, I would like to get to 10 stone.

Dh got me an exercise bike for Xmas so will be trying to use that if I can - have a chronic illness so in pain a lot but will do what I can.

Diet wise I am following a diet designed for my illness. It's a lot of fish, no dairy, healthy fats, zero meat cakes chocolate pastry etc - so the weight should come off following that.

I still have lots of Xmas snacks left - what is everyone doing? Should I just chuck them??

Dizzywizz · 30/12/2016 06:17

Takeaway - any advice? I won't get dh out of his Friday night habit! (He's not overweight) i'm thinking Chinese start with the soup like a veggi broth and then for a main vegetables with oyster sauce and boiled rice.

Indian - soup again to start and then - I don't know many Indian vegetarian meals. if they do a vegetarian tikki maybe masala if it's with yoghurt any ideas??

Stellar67 · 30/12/2016 14:07

I'm in. 4 stone to lose. Joining all the new threads in the hope to keep in track. :-)

Karcheer · 30/12/2016 19:32

I think veg biriani is the healthiest choice. Starter chicken tikka maybe?

Is anyone going to meal prep for lunch? I'm thinking I might do this as otherwise I'll just quickly grab sandwich, crisps and chocolate.

I'd like to throw all uneaten sweets on the 1st but it seems so wasteful :(

NapoleonsNose · 30/12/2016 20:00

I'm in! I've got around 4 stone to lose and have just ordered 4 weeks worth of Exante stuff. My aim is to do that until the end of January, then switch to MFP. I've lost a similar amount on SW before but I can't get on with their new plans. I miss the old style Red and Green! I've never done a vlcd before but I'm so desperate to some weight quickly that I've taken the plunge.

loveyouradvice · 30/12/2016 20:09

Hi everyone - Like Littlepinkgiraffe Im chuffed Ive lost just over 3 stone this year... but one more stone to go. So keen to be super strict from 8 Jan (final festive event) for 6 weeks and hope most of it comes off then ... and then the challenge of keeping it off! So watching my weight hard for at least six months....and then for the rest of my life!

  • Love the No Snacking January idea
  • Definitely "Mindful Eating" helps me hugely - aiming to do more of that
  • SirtFood Diet makes me feel fab while losing weight so will continue with that while recognising food prep takes a lot of time so worth it for intense 6 weeks

Looking forward to chatting to you all as we go - oh, and lots of exercise is on the cards too - Love zumba and that sort of stuff, and lots of walking....

Dizzywizz · 31/12/2016 06:12

Thanks karcheer - I didn't see your message until after, and biriani can be too hot for me sometimes (I'm terrible with spices!). I went for the tarka dall then vegetable massala. Half portions of each - I can never eat a full one (ironic ha) and save half for the next day.

Dizzywizz · 31/12/2016 06:13

I go for soup at lunch (ready made, Covent Garden) so it's easy peasy.

And I have thrown the Celebrations out - I don't even like them that much - but that does leave chocolate fudge, chocolate marzipan, mince pies and Christmas cake!!

Grumpbum · 31/12/2016 06:17

Once the Xmas food has gone, will be dropping the snacking and wine, that should work

hayser33 · 31/12/2016 08:48

I've just bought an exercise bike off facebay for 15 pound! Does anyone else use a bike at home..any tips? I hear pedal fast for 30 secs then slow for 1 min..it's meant to be better than just pedalling at a steady pace . Does anyone know if that's the correct way.
My plan is when we watch our box set of whatever at night I'm going to go on it ..fingers crossed.
Like most others I have a cupboard full of Xmas chocolate Blush .
I start on January 2nd !!
Need to do a meal plan before shopping..
Anyone have any meal ideas?

bonnieweelass · 31/12/2016 14:08

Hi everyone. I'm determined to get going from January 2nd. I've ordered a soup maker so I can get all my veggies but I'm such a bad cook I have no idea how to prepare the ingredients or how to measure! Anyone got any soup maker tips? Its the morphy richards one I've got.

I've also signed up to nutracheck (before the special offer GRRRR) and will be using that too to track calories.

Weighed myself today and I am 15stone 13lbs. so that's my starting weight. Do you all want to add yours today or tomorrow?

Good luck to all. we can do this.

OP posts:
Bibs2014 · 31/12/2016 15:41

I'm starting tomorrow.

My plan is

Dry January
No crisps or choc in January
Followed my Slimming World

thumbcats · 31/12/2016 19:28

After a frankly humiliating and emotional trip to the gp, I need to take drastic action regarding my weight. I currently weigh 15 stone 8 and at 5 ft 2 that puts me into hugely dangerous territory bmi-wise.

DH and I want to start ttc in the next few years and my very frank but lovely gp talked to me about how, if I were to conceive, there are huge risks of abnormalities to the baby. This really upset me as I thought that the risk was mainly to the mother.

The thing is, I knew I was big but I didn't realise how bad it had got. I still fit into size 18 clothes and am doing couch to 5k for example. However, I saw myself on the work Christmas video and oh my god, it's bad. If I'm completely honest with myself, the binge eating has got completely out of hand.

The gp has referred me to therapy run through the surgery and I plan to use mfp to calorie count.

I've been invited to a hen do in Feb half term so I hope to lose my first stone by then.

bonnieweelass · 31/12/2016 21:19

oh thumbcats I'm sorry to hear you feel so down. I too saw myself recently in a work do picture and did not recognise myself. I'm fat, old, washed out. Not at all the person I used to be. Together we can change this. Good luck x

OP posts:
Karcheer · 31/12/2016 21:32

I've ordered new trainers, and put the vitamins and protein powder out on the worsurface.
I'm going to,do,some kind of exercise tomorrow.
hayser33 I've got a treadmill, it's been out of action for a year but my dad set it back up for me just before Christmas so no excuses!
bonnieweelass I've a soup maker, I'd love to hear what you do and how much of stuff you put in, I'm a rubbish cook and it always ends up like hot green water... yum!
