2017 dieters

A support thread for 2017 dieters.

who is planning to start a new diet/exercise regime in the new year and what diet are you planning on following?

Not sure whether I should follow a particular diet or simply cut back on food, I'm not sure I'd know what to do without guidance.

Please share your plans.

I'm in. Just found out our first IVF has failed and I've probably gained about a stone this past month with all the crazy hormone fuelled comfort eating. I'm going to have a lovely Christmas but then on it in 2017. I've already ordered 28days' worth of VLCD shakes/soups to give me a kick start. VLCDs work really well for me, and I figure I will be so skint in January that there will be no cheating!!

Thereafter I plan high protein/low carb. Carbs and I are not pals. :(

Plus I'm going to try and move a bit more. Maybe two cardio sessions and one kettle bell session a week?

I recon our last NHS IVF will be March/April so I want to be in good shape for that.

Msqueen33 · 18/12/2016 08:46

I'm starting a vlcd today up until Christmas Day as I'm seriously packing on the pounds and feel huge. Comforting eating sucks.

hayser33 · 18/12/2016 12:54

I almost can't wait for January I feel crap today
Went out last night and in the photos I look so awful I do mate even look like me anymore.

Can't wait to get this 4 stone off !! Don't know how I'm going to do it

thumbcats · 19/12/2016 06:56

Liquorice I totally feel the same. I'm spending £30 a month and last went in august. Was doing really well but then work took over and I'm back to square one.
I'm off to restart c25k today on the treadmills. I figured I may as well go now while it's quieter and get back into it before the January resolution people arrive. Then at least I can appear to know what I'm doing.

titsbumfannythelot · 19/12/2016 07:05

You'll get there Hayser.

Chipsandonionrings · 19/12/2016 07:06

I am in..... Fattest I have ever been and have lost all control. Feel terrible. I literally have 6 items of clothes that fit. I am starting now going lower carb and doing more exercise whilst hubby is here to look after kids. Will have 3 days over the big day off.

Jan- will be dry and I will be doing 4-8 weeks of exante as a kick start.

Then mid Feb heading over to 4:3 fasting - fits in with my work days.

I will start cycling to work - tbf not far! Getting out for more walks. Then when I have got into the swing of doing some exercise I will blow the dust off 30day shred. Then want to start Kettlebells again.

This is going to be my year ( ignores fact last year was supposed to be too!)

SuzySoo · 19/12/2016 09:20

Hayser you can do it - I've got a similar amount to lose as you. The key is choosing a method and sticking with it.

I've researched loads of diets (I'm a bit of a geek - work in a science field and so use similar methods of research and analysis in my everyday life too. My friends always ask me for holiday recommendations because they know I only ever book somewhere after extensive research Grin). After looking at evidence of effectiveness and sustainability (and my personal preference), I narrowed it down to either the Body Coach method (Joe Wicks guy) or the Freedom Diet Coach - both are quite similar in that they're internet based, but after reading lots of reviews and information about them I decided that the Body Coach plan just wouldn't suit my family lifestyle as I can't dedicate so much time to just preparing my own food, I want everyone to be able to eat the same as me (mostly). I'm also happy with my current exercise regime (3 gym classes a week plus regular walking) and so didn't want to change that to Joe Wick's HIIT regime. With the plan I've gone for, my current exercise regime is incorporated into my plan. It also appears to be more personalised than the other one, although I won't actually receive it until January so I can't say that for sure yet.

Anyway sorry for rambling, my point is, do your research and choose a diet plan that you believe in and are committed to, and then just do it!

hayser33 · 19/12/2016 13:59

I'm definitely not doing slimming world
I may try weight watchers not sure yet. I don't want to do high fat low carb its too very restrictive and I felt sick alot ! I need to exercise but think it will have to be a home workout.

Good luck everyone and all enjoy a lovely Christmas !, Xmas Smile

bonnieweelass · 19/12/2016 18:06

have tried SW and WW in the past. SW was hard as its very much making time to cook which is no good if you're both a crap cook and someone who works full time long hours.

WW used to be good but since it switched to the new low sugar plan, its just not as appealing anymore.

I might just do normal calorie counting.

amusedbush · 19/12/2016 18:50

Back from my 6th weigh in and I lost 4lbs this week, so 27lbs in total Grin

hayser33 · 19/12/2016 21:19

That's great amusedbush well done

Tartle · 19/12/2016 21:33

I lost 7 stone on exante this year. I have been off the wagon for most of December but I am going to be really strict for all of Jan and hopefully lose the last stone.

SuzySoo · 20/12/2016 09:00

Well done bush - really great going, especially at this time of year! I'm being mindful of what I eat, but don't feel ready to fully commit to weight loss until the new year.

WeldMeDaphne · 20/12/2016 14:15

Urgh, count me (and DH) in. I'm going back to WW as it works really well for me. I just need to keep it up for more than a month or two. It's especially important at the moment as due to hideous commute I have barely any time for exercise... I reached an absolute nadir this year, and I'm sick of being this size. 2017 is it.

CountryLovingGirl · 21/12/2016 20:31

I want to lose weight in 2017 too. I have put on more and more over the last 4 years and I am now verging on a size 16-18! I am terrible for snacking (cake/crisps and chocolate). I don't know if I can be bothered with slimmng world as I work FT shifts (all over the place) in the NHS. I am also a mum to 2 kiddies.

I am going to book a holiday for August so that is my inspiration.

Has anyone tried the Slimfast shakes? I think I could cope with a diet like that. I like the sound of dry January :-)

Karcheer · 21/12/2016 21:50

iheartmyponeh sorry to hear your news, be failed twice :(
The good news is that once the hormones have left your body, I found the weight fell off.

Karcheer · 21/12/2016 21:54

suzysoo I've he's book, but I couldn't work out what I had to do.

I need to cancel my gym membership, £85 a month and never use it. My dad set up my running machine in our family room and I'm going to do that and Kayla itsines I think.

bonnieweelass · 22/12/2016 18:07

my office is on the 5th floor and the lift will be out of service for 12 weeks! It will help me get fit but it will be hell. I'll arrive at my floor in a sweaty puffy mess. :(

Its a sign, albeit an unwelcome one!

Bibs2014 · 23/12/2016 00:11

I want to lose a stone in 2017.

I'm doing no crisps or chocolate in January to kick start weight loss and will be sticking to slimming world / clean eating (no yummy muller lights for me!).

I may even start before 1 Jan, I usually do!

SuffolkBumkin · 23/12/2016 00:28

Can i join too? I have about 4 stone to shift, have already lost a stone. I will be starting after Xmas day, I have 2 weeks of leftover slim and save products, then calorie counting. I have ordered a running machine for the new year. Had one before and loved it, plus I could never run down the road in public, not with my big belly and boobs flapping about. Blush

bonnieweelass · 25/12/2016 20:15

how was christmas dinner for everyone?

OP posts:
under60kgbyJuly · 25/12/2016 21:01

I'm away skiing so no Christmas dinner, but there's a fondue in my future... My goal's in my username. Current weight-in-my-head is 65kg (actual weight may be a bit more) so should be very doable; but need to do it without getting obsessed, as I can. Less mindless eating, more veg, bit more exercise.

SuzySoo · 26/12/2016 08:18

Christmas dinner was good bonnie - I always think of a roast dinner as actually quite healthy - not so much the accompanying vienetta and bottle of wine I managed to polish off!

BUT I've completed by questionnaire for my diet programme and have returned that, so my diet plan should be here by the end of the week!!

Karcheer · 26/12/2016 18:48

It's the nuts, cakes and cheese that get me :/

WynterBlossom · 26/12/2016 18:52

I want to lose weight!
