Happy Advent!

Here's the link to the November thread where we cheered each other on to be MoSlender

Now we slide frostily into Christmas with the hope of losing more (or at least not losing our grip completely)

oh sorry BOOP I lose track of where I've endlessly complained. Spending the day with olds, mum very ill. Always very boring and depressing anyway tbh.

no plans really - friends all away mostly from yesterday. My friends are family really so it's a very boring and lonely time when I feel at my worst with SAD. I have actually just emailed an old friend who I don't even like that much because I looked at the diary and I have nothing to do till NYE, people aren't even around to chat to on the phone. And MN seems to be much more full of boring Xmas shite threads this year as well.

I suppose it feels worse this year because I had to spend a week or so "looking after" my mum, mostly she was asleep and I was watching box sets, so I'm out of the urge to just sit under a blanket and do that because I've had enough of it really.

NYE isn't that much fun either - don't really want to do it but I offered to host some people so I am. Next actual interesting thing in the diary is 10th Jan. Seems a very long way away!

sorry for the moan.

QuimReaper · 22/12/2016 11:37

Oh Archie what a pain, I'm so sorry! Your DH sounds bloody hardcore, has he always done that kind of thing or has he just discovered a love for it?

Lorelei commiserations on your beastly Linda! Crisps are very dehydrating and make me retain water like mad. About once a year I am seized with a need to scoff an entire tube of Pringles and the next day I always feel like a whale. Hopefully it's just that.

It's such a beautiful day, I'm going to go out for a long-long-long walk I think. It's going to be tough to cling to my resolve when I get back in I think, I find it so hard to go back on a day which has been earmarked for indulgence!

QuimReaper · 22/12/2016 11:44

So sorry to hear this is a rubbish time of year for you Lorelei - I bet you'll really enjoy hosting NYE when it rolls around Flowers

BitOutOfPractice · 22/12/2016 11:49

Oh lorelei I wish I could scoop you up and bring you round to mine. Christmas can be a difficult time, magnifying our issues.

I too really dislike new year. I don't have the kids this year for NYE so we are going away.

Have a squeeze from me Flowers

aww, thanks BOOP.

I wouldn't mind if my friends were around but everyone just vanishes, it's so depressing.

QuimReaper · 22/12/2016 12:28

I wish I could foster you for Christmas too Lorelei!

KikisDeliveryService · 22/12/2016 17:46

Flowers for lorelai

QuimReaper · 22/12/2016 19:39

Oh my God.

Talk about a golden day.

Went out for a swim and walk and to do a bit of shopping. Between one thing and another I ended up clocking up over 16km, and swam 56 lengths! I feel shattered now, but very virtuous. I really hope it makes a dent in my overindulgences!

Mummyreindeerlegz · 22/12/2016 21:44

Lorelai can you plan something for each day? Even if it is just "paint nails" "clean out understairs cupboard" "research weekend away for 2017" and use the time to feel like you've been productive and you can look back on a list of achievements?

Started my period. Of course.

Archduke · 22/12/2016 22:00

Lorelei sorry Christmas is hard for you, lovely thread this one with offers of scooping you up and taking you home for Christmas Xmas Smile. We have some prawns for you if you fancy a hot Christmas for a change! What are your plans for Christmas Day, do you have family to go to?

I can't bear NY either BOOP, am contemplating just staying at home with the kids and doing something for just us.

Quim you are a bloody marvel with your 16km and 56 lenghts! Amazing. How much weight do you want to loose? You surely can't have far to go now.

I'm off for a remedial massage to see if that fixes my back, then delivering gifts and flowers to MIL whose birthday is today, then a swim. There is a funny 1950s outdoor pool near us which is lovely if it's quiet but like revolting hot human soup if busy. Am desperately hoping it will be quiet this close to Christmas.

Lorelei76 · 22/12/2016 22:15

Thanks everyone, appreciate the support
Yes I am with family but that's the worst bit! I find it hard for a range of reasons.
I've managed to find a couple of friends to see between Xmas and new year so feeling so I'm feeling better now. I think sometimes other people plan to closet themselves off and then realise they'll go bonkers because previously they said they wouldn't be around at all....

BitOutOfPractice · 23/12/2016 00:02

Evening. I can't say my day has been golden as such. I reckon I'm at 1600 for the day. Not bad as we had friends round for drinks and nibbles.

I had to drag BF out for a walk at 10:20pm to make sure I got my Fitbit steps target. Good job he loves eh?

Hello all, evening here, just had a welcome G&T and some nuts. Curry and veg to follow.

Had my massage, it was lovely but hasn't fixed anything in my back. Am hoping the Gin does a better job. Did bit of xmas shopping today bought this for the spare bedroom I liked the Miami kitsch of it, but not sure if flamingos are totally over (bear in mind I'm in country Australia so we're about 5 years behind the rest of you).

Food has been good but am really missing exercise. Sodding sodding back.

Archduke · 23/12/2016 08:21

I think dh will divorce me on grounds of poor taste in bedlinen. He hasn't really left the 80's behind yet and would probably prefer this.

QuimReaper · 23/12/2016 08:57

Archie I was forgetting you were in Aus when you said about your pool, I was flabbergasted at the idea of a heated outdoor pool in December in the UK! Did you make it in the end?

BOOP you nutter, I wouldn't be surprised if he got you a puppy for Christmas to get himself off the hook Xmas Grin

Archduke · 23/12/2016 09:16

Quim so funny, I only get in the pool if it's over 30 degrees Grin. Nope didn't make it in the end, so kids are furious with me. May go tomorrow.

Are you all off work now? Doing anything nice this Christmas Eve Eve?

BitOutOfPractice · 23/12/2016 09:17

I know quim. He's a good 'un is my BF. I did offer to go by myself but he said he would miss me. I can hear you all boaking

Oh archie (for that is now your name) what a shame your back is being an arse do to speak. Is it s recurring thing for you? I LOVE the bedspread!

Today is the day of the much anticipated M&S shop come pub crawl. We are having a preparatory gravy dinner at the pub then stopping at every pub on the way to M&S, drunken food shop, then every pub home. What could POSSIBLY go wrong? It's only for cream and salad and the like do can be topped up tomorrow if necessary

9st 4. I've had my hair cut and lost weight. Huh?!

QuimReaper · 23/12/2016 09:41

Oh my God BOOP that is an AMAZING day! I bet tomorrow you'll be rubbing your heads and gazing into the fridge in utter bafflement, wondering why on earth you thought you needed a thirteen tins of biscuits, a wheel of brie and a live crab Xmas Grin

I'm going for a lovely coffee with a friend then back home to board games, presents, cheese, chocolate and Champagne! It's an annual tradition for me and DH to have a "Christmas Day" before the real thing so we can both be with our parents, it's always fab! I'm also dusting off my slow cooker and making my famous melt-in-the-mouth beef, to be eaten on soft rolls with cheap plastic cheese. This is a speciality of mine, and an act of real dedication since it'll mean washing the bastarding thing up in the shower...

QuimReaper · 23/12/2016 09:42

Woop woop Mummy congrats - I would say that's an AF-related whoosh, but more likely you have lead-infused hair Xmas Grin

QuimReaper · 23/12/2016 09:45

Lorelei I'm so pleased you've found someone to play with over the festive period, I think you're right, people sometimes play their cards close to their chest so their calendars don't get out of control and then crawl out of the woodwork once they've got everything else nailed down.

When in December does it become acceptable to start drinking at breakfast time?

Archduke · 23/12/2016 10:00

Today Quim Wine chin chin

Archduke · 23/12/2016 10:05

Well done Mummy! The Linda's are dropping off.

BOOP What a fabulous game! Quim er . . . why . . . um . . . do you need to wash the slow cooker in the shower? Is is the size of a bath??

Lorelei76 · 23/12/2016 10:12

Archduke, I am well impressed at that!

Quim, I think it's not so much that as appeasing relatives and saying "I have to go and do this" or they get optimistic and think they'll cope with family only for the period.

It's not usual for me to get "argh" calls and texts on Boxing Day but for some reason everyone still swallows the family time line even if they hate it....and interestingly some years I do hear people admitting they hate it especially if they've had a few drinks.

I just had to let a tradesman in for next door - apropos nothing, (literally all I said was, "number 8 will be back in a mo, he asked me to let you in" - the tradesman said "oh I hate this time of year - all the bloody sheep". I nearly hugged him but he would have been awfully confused. And possibly sued me for harassment!!

Mummyreindeerlegz · 23/12/2016 10:43

Why do you get a period whoosh of Linda's? It's an odd one. Maybe I've lost my water retention? My ibs has been quite active too! It is now very short my hair. Again.
