A weight loss thread for just eating less

Lorelei76 · 18/07/2016 13:48

hello all
short version

have tried to lose weight a few times!

going for the "eating less" approach. Had a long weekend break, now starting in earnest with the hope of a boot camp style month.

I don't eat a huge amount of junk, but nonetheless want to tackle my sweet tooth as it certainly doesn't help with anything. I only have sugar free jelly in the house to eat now if I have the urge for something sweet - I've learned from experience that if I have no options at all, I will just start eating anything.

I am also trying to eat less - smaller meals, in some cases not 3 meals a day because I don't always need that.

it is a casual approach but I find calorie counting etc really boring. I walk a lot and do some weight training and yoga so all good on that front.

anyone fancy joining me? I think it would be nice to check in once a day just to say "I haven't overeaten" and share it with someone!

that's great humble!

I am craving chocolate. Luckily there isn't any here.

Would you all mind telling me how much you have lost and in how long? I like the idea of this but not sure about the slow approach.

Lorelei76 · 08/09/2016 10:54

hi Suzy
I lose about half a pound a week - so far I've only lost 6lb.

I know I don't stick to a fast approach so if it stays off by me being slow, I'm okay with that.

I think I've made progress - in the past that chocolate craving would certainly have resulted in me going to get some, if not at the time, then the following day or whatever, but now I can think "oh I fancy eating chocolate" and then forget about it.

If I continue at this rate I'll be in smaller jeans by Christmas, I have tried to lose weight before and would rather do it slowly and once and for all. It's not for everyone of course.

Ok thanks. I might try something with quicker results then.

Lorelei76 · 09/09/2016 22:50

I do wish I could progress faster but I have found that even 1300 or 1400 cals is quite hard to maintain. I manage a few days and then get ravenous.

I've got a horrible month coming up at work so will have to resist all the junk that will be lying around. Also need to batch cook this Sunday as I think there's going to be a lot of late evenings so I will need food I can bung the microwave, I am awful at cooking if I'm late home. I'm paid overtime so that's fine but I do find the longer the working day, the more challenging the diet feels.

Btw can anyone recommend a cheap spiraliser?

SuzyLucy · 10/09/2016 10:56

How much have you lost now Lorelei?

Lorelei76 · 10/09/2016 11:17

hi Suzy
as I said on Thursday, only 6lb since starting this thread. I haven't weighed in for this week yet, I would guess another half pound or pound.

There are definitely faster ways - I just started a general "eating less" thread because I wanted to do this in a relaxed and realistic way for me and I have tried other ways and they didn't suit me.

There are people on this thread doing low carb and other stuff - if you want to just hang with us here and keep us updated whatever you decide, feel free, you're most welcome Smile

I have lost a stone and a bit since the end of May. It came off quite quickly and I have reached a plateau the last three weeks or so. I'd like to lose another stone by Spring. I know it will be a bit slower now.

Lorelei76 · 10/09/2016 16:33

that's good humble!

SuzyLucy · 10/09/2016 17:21

Gah! Sorry I missed your Thursday post. Well done to you both.

Lorelei76 · 12/09/2016 23:36

no loss this week
getting a bit worried about upcoming Pill check appointment.

oh well, I will just have to explain to them that I'd rather do it slowly and do it once...and see what they say.

Lorelei76 · 16/09/2016 16:36

hello?

Am I all alone in the "slow but steady weight loss" universe?

OP posts:
humblesims · 16/09/2016 18:26

nope still here, still taking it slow, still sitting on twelve stone. Lost three pounds put three pounds back on. Started Pilates and had sausages for tea. I am battling with the inner demon. It might take me a week or so to slay it and get back in the groove. Good luck with the pill thing. :)

Lorelei76 · 16/09/2016 18:30

hi Humble
how are you liking Pilates?

Pill appointment is now in 3 weeks so I have time to step it up except this does seem to be the most cutting back I can do...!

lost another half a pound if anyone is about...

OP posts:
humblesims · 25/09/2016 17:05

Hows it going guys? I have lost another pound or so. I am losing and gaining the same two pounds at the moment. I have been eatng a little too much chocolatle and curry. Lol. I need to get a grip on it agian and try and lose another stone. I will be happy if I dont put weight back on but really i'd like to lose more. How are you doing?

Lorelei76 · 26/09/2016 11:49

I have lost another half but seem to be bloated...

I look slimmer now too but this bloat - what I have noticed is that if I have a protein based dinner I am bloated the next day. Obviously this isn't what's meant to happen so I am a tad confused!!! but tbh if it means I have to switch to eating mainly carbs at dinner I don't mind at all.

thing is, apart from the bloat I look so much better this week I thought I'd see a 2lb loss. I do think perhaps the loss might accelerate as I have a much better grip on things and not overeating etc. It feels like habit to reject office biscuits etc which is really good news.

I did a new workout on Saturday though and I'm still feeling it!!

Dowser · 29/09/2016 10:48

I'm bloated too.
Don't know why but it's horrible. Makes me look enormous and feel sluggish.

trevortrevorslatterfry · 29/09/2016 10:54

Hello! I am late to the party but can I join please?

I have been really really active for most of this year but my training has tapered off now. Sadly my eating hasn't Shock

I don't eat loads of crap but do snack too much and often eat the same size meals as my husband (he is 6' tall with a physical job, I am 5' and sit at a desk all day).

It would be great just to feel like someone else is keeping an eye on me and if I say I will check in here then maybe it will shame me encourage me not to be so greedy.

Hope you are all doing well Flowers

humblesims · 29/09/2016 11:05

Yes of course trevor join the club. We are pretty chilled in here. Pretty sure no-ones used the t word before (training) but we are all just trying to get into healthier eating habits. Portion size is a great place to start because you can just eat the same stuff as usual but less. I found the easiest way was to just use a smaller plate. So thats easy.

As for you guys bloating I was the same til I cut out bread. And dont forget to drink more water!

No news from me really. Still battling this two pounds I keep losing and putting on. Its like a dragon I am trying to slay!

Lorelei76 · 29/09/2016 11:37

Hi Trevor
I am someone who "trains"'!

I'm keen to do more as I get so depressed over winter and I feel it setting in already. However that's probably why I seem to have put too much protein in my diet, I am cutting back now as that's def the bloat cause.

I think I'm catching a cold so I guess that will put me off my food for a bit!!

I want to ramp up the slow loss now. Smaller portions again I think.

OP posts:
Dowser · 29/09/2016 11:58

I don't eat wheat either

trevortrevorslatterfry · 29/09/2016 12:25

Thankyou for the welcome!
You've already made me get a Shapers sandwich from boots for lunch instead of a big massive ciabatta from the sandwich shop Grin

Lorelei76 · 29/09/2016 13:50

trevor, that's good!

Dowser - could be non food related or could be any kind of food really, if you look at what might cause bloating it's a very long list.
