A weight loss thread for just eating less

hello all
short version

have tried to lose weight a few times!

going for the "eating less" approach. Had a long weekend break, now starting in earnest with the hope of a boot camp style month.

I don't eat a huge amount of junk, but nonetheless want to tackle my sweet tooth as it certainly doesn't help with anything. I only have sugar free jelly in the house to eat now if I have the urge for something sweet - I've learned from experience that if I have no options at all, I will just start eating anything.

I am also trying to eat less - smaller meals, in some cases not 3 meals a day because I don't always need that.

it is a casual approach but I find calorie counting etc really boring. I walk a lot and do some weight training and yoga so all good on that front.

anyone fancy joining me? I think it would be nice to check in once a day just to say "I haven't overeaten" and share it with someone!

I should add that I'm 5ft 6 and now a size 18 or at a push a large 16.
I don't have a sweet tooth but a savoury one which is my downfall.
I mainly eat when I'm hungry and have a pretty healthy diet but yet I'm still putting on weight, it's a conundrum ( or too large portions)

I am now hungry so will eat half a grapefruit and a slice of toast (no butter) and a cup of tea (no milk or sugar)
That's how strict my diet will be for the next 7 days.
Good luck everyone.

hi Tant, welcome along!

Cat, I am not a low carb person so I could be totally wrong but I have friends who do low carb and they have said that suddenly having more carbs than you are allowed can set you back fully.

I wouldn't dream of doing low carb myself - well I tried it once but there was no way I was sustaining that and just looking at some of the food days gives me indigestion.

Yes I think that's right lorelei.

I get on well with low carb .. No calorie counting, no ridiculously small amounts and it works if you stick to it. I just find it hard to stick to all the time.

Tantpoke · 24/08/2016 15:50

Hi >waves< thank you Smile
I'm trying to low carb but I'm including baked potato in my daily diet (mainly because I have a bag to get through) although haven't worked out the best thing to add to it yet as just salt isn't really cutting it.
I also don't want to spend a fortune on my food, I figure if I cut down on my food intake I may as well cut down on my weekly shop.
I think low carving just gives me a headache and makes me very tired so I'm going to stick to one slice of toast a day in the am and a baked potato somewhere in the day but definitely no pasta. rice but not yet.
This spare tyre is really annoying for clothes wearing so it just has to go.

Lorelei76 · 24/08/2016 19:37

I've never looked at my fitness pal, I didn't know it made comments on what you eat.

Well I;m not doing so great this week. I've reached that point that I always reach (usually quicker than this) where I am really struggling to be good and feel the need to eat everything in sight. It must be hormonal I think. I feel very low too so I guess I must be due on. Yesterday I ate crisps. And today I ate crisps and half a bagette of garlic bread with my tea.
Boo!
I've put on two pound so I am back in teh twelve stone bit.Its pretty infuriating. Its like my brain is just telling me to not worry about the diet thing and to just eat what I want. I need to get a grip really. I guess I'll just go for damage limitation until I can get back in control. I found a six pack of crisps I' forgotten about and after eating some yesterday and today managed to give them to the kids to take them away from me. So, I guess it is important that we document the hard times as well as the good. So thats me this week. Two steps back. Nephews party tomorrow so that wont be good. Back on trak Monday I guess.

Thecatgotmytongue · 26/08/2016 19:00

I'm getting really hard again despite going through a tough time. I've given up on low carb though for now, just cutting back and using mfp to track calories.

Thecatgotmytongue · 26/08/2016 19:02

trying really hard ...

Lorelei76 · 27/08/2016 10:37

Cat, that might have been the funniest autocorrect ever!

Humble, due on, could be water.

Yesterday I ate some biccies and choc in the office. Never mind, such is life. Having eaten them only once in a week is a major progress.

My strict diet lasted less than 24 hours Grin
But I am more aware of what I'm eating with this mfp app which I'm really enjoying using more than thinking about what to eat next, it's a great distraction for me.
I had a nandos last night and did well only having the single chicken breast in pitta and their super green salad which is delicious and tons of zero coke and some of my DD frozen yogurt plus I nicked a couple of chips off everyone else's plate Grin
I also stopped myself from having a second croissant all day which was trying really hard to force me to eat it.

Lorelei76 · 27/08/2016 13:35

Tant - I was a bit horrified by your very strict diet tbh!

I switched my exercise routine a bit - I normally work out anyway so had to make some changes - and I thought it was fine but today it's really making me feel tired! Or it could be the humidity, it's horrible here today.

Cat, it gave me a good laugh so no worries Grin

2.25 lbs down here today Smile

I've managed ok the last few days, although I did got the aero mint chocolate in Friday night a bit.

Lorelei76 · 29/08/2016 12:09

Oh well done Cat, that's great.

OP posts:
Thecatgotmytongue · 30/08/2016 15:50

Last night I undid it all by eating tons of chocolate Blush

humblesims · 30/08/2016 16:19

Smile that was last night. Move on and keep going. This is a slow burn not a quick win. I ate half a packet of chocolate digestives at the weekend as well as two burgers and a plate of durritos. But its OK cos the other days I was good. Forgive yourself and move on. Chocolate is the worst for me. I cant just eat a little bit so I have gone cold turkey really. (until the weekend but hey, its just one day).

Lorelei76 · 30/08/2016 17:59

Don't worry, it's not all going to be a straight line!
I hardly ate anything yesterday - stressed out by something - but this morning showed no loss. Och well.

OP posts:
Lorelei76 · 01/09/2016 19:41

how's everyone doing?

I had dinner out last night - a birthday - so tried to eat a lot less today. I am getting stressed about the slow loss again because I have to see the doc soon and they will weigh me - argh.

OP posts:
Namechange1964 · 01/09/2016 23:55

I've eaten reasonably healthily, but made crumble, so ate that three days running Blush

humblesims · 02/09/2016 10:04

Ive been away for weekend camping and fell off the diet wagon and ate white bread quavers and chocolate macaroons and morrison salads with samosas and pakoras and salami and choclate and ooo all sorts.
Back on it today. Not going to weigh myself for a few days! Mind you I did climb a few hills too so it may be OK. Massive sugar rush from eating two chocolate macaroons in a row!

Lorelei76 · 03/09/2016 11:41

I haven't done too well this week
Oh well, two days before weigh in
I might change weigh in day, Monday is a crap day as it is...!

Thecatgotmytongue · 05/09/2016 01:29

Lorelei76 · 05/09/2016 10:43

Cat, we all have those times.

I have lost another pound. I am surprised but pleased, obvs.

OP posts:
humblesims · 05/09/2016 10:56

well done Lorelei I have stayed the same for the last two weeks but have been 'bad' for much of that time so am surprised I havent put any back on. Still I must get back 'on it' this week. Kids back to school. routine re-established and self control! Start my over fifties pilates for beginners this week! Yikes.
Keep it up people.
I am starting slowly to get into clothes I have saved for 'when I lose weight' that is a good feeling.
