A weight loss thread for just eating less

hello all
short version

have tried to lose weight a few times!

going for the "eating less" approach. Had a long weekend break, now starting in earnest with the hope of a boot camp style month.

I don't eat a huge amount of junk, but nonetheless want to tackle my sweet tooth as it certainly doesn't help with anything. I only have sugar free jelly in the house to eat now if I have the urge for something sweet - I've learned from experience that if I have no options at all, I will just start eating anything.

I am also trying to eat less - smaller meals, in some cases not 3 meals a day because I don't always need that.

it is a casual approach but I find calorie counting etc really boring. I walk a lot and do some weight training and yoga so all good on that front.

anyone fancy joining me? I think it would be nice to check in once a day just to say "I haven't overeaten" and share it with someone!

Same here. slow and steady. Lost a pound and no major infractions. Starting to get into old jeans which is encouraging. Keep it up people!

Lorelei76 · 09/08/2016 18:34

how's everyone?
only another pound this week but it feels sustainable which is good
I'm not scrabbling about hungry at 10pm like on some diets I've been on

I am so glad I ditched the junk, I had to run some errands at lunchtime, asked the office if they needed anything and they were all "ooh can you pop to M&S and get us some biccies".

And the whole aisle of that stuff in M&S meant nothing to me! I always wanted to be someone who doesn't have a sweet tooth, maybe it's actually happening....that would be cool.

i havent had any chocolate or cake or crisps for ages now and i sort of dont miss it that much. Sometimes I fancy some but if I dont have it in the house I dont crave it too bad. Because i am not on a 'diet' I could have chocolate if I wanted to and that make a difference. I had mashed sweet potato with sausages for tea but it was pretty yuk! Dont think I'll try that again. I made bakes sweet potato the other day and that was not so bad. havent weighed myself for a couple of days but if I havent put any on I should soon be back in the elevens.

Lorelei76 · 09/08/2016 19:37

well done humble!

yes, I'm not really a fan of sweet potato, it's okay for a couple of bites but then I don't like it.

I had stir fry chicken and noodles and veggies for dinner and it was yum. I actually wish I'd made enough to take leftovers to work. As work remains the boredom area, it's good to enjoy lunch, less risk of boredom eating the crap lying around.

Oh I had the longest commute home yesterday - things just kept going wrong - so I know I overate a bit then because I basically came home and wolfed down some bread before cooking dinner, but another good thing about "no junk" - which I used to try to find spare calories for! - is that those sorts of oddities don't matter so much.

Can I join in? I need to lose two stone, but react badly to diets in that I start craving stuff and end up stuffing my face Blush

I'm trying to eat less too. But nothing specific, apart from cutting down on chocolate, sweets and crisps. I've just got some dark chocolate in the house, because I can't eat a lot of that. My weakness is cappuccino made with my coffee machine, but I'll try and stick to one or two instead of four or five a day!

humblesims · 14/08/2016 18:22

yes do join us. just cutting out the sweets crisps and chocy (mostly) will help loads. I'm finding no snacks is going OK (been a bit naughty this weekend but not hugely) good luck and keep us posted on how its going. I am still teetering on the brink of going from the 12's into the 11's. Probably would have been there if I hadnt had fish and chips for tea! O well next week....:)

Thecatgotmytongue · 14/08/2016 18:42

Thanks.

I'm about 12 st 8 ... I did a drastic one day diet a few weeks ago, but only for four days, lost 4 lbs, but have probably put it all back on.

I eat for comfort, out of boredom ... and I have to stop. I can't just have a little so have to have nothing in the house that I like and don't want to eat.

Yesterday and today have been quite good, I cut down a lot on what I eat. I hope posting here with you all will help me stick to it.

Thecatgotmytongue · 14/08/2016 18:44

Sorry, that should be a drastic one week diet ....

Lorelei76 · 14/08/2016 19:26

Cat, do you know what the situations are that you boredom eat? I mostly do that at work so can't play candy crush or something instead...!

OP posts:
Thecatgotmytongue · 14/08/2016 19:49

Just any time really ... it's become a habit too I guess. Or comfort eating. I'm not sure where one stops and the other starts, but it's got out of hand.

Lorelei76 · 15/08/2016 17:54

No change this week
Sad,y I ate biccies at work due to boredom and planned a longer workout but now my commute has gone badly wrong
Gah.

I've done ok so far, been eating low carb since Tuesday, haven't weighed myself yet.

Lorelei76 · 19/08/2016 16:46

I'm due a weigh in on Monday
I am doing all right but ate out last night and have a birthday lunch tomorrow. Managed to cut back during the day yesterday for the first time in my life though! Also my colleague looked at my plate - it was a buffet - and said "is that all you're having?" so I must be doing okay reducing portions.

OP posts:
humblesims · 20/08/2016 17:05

yeah i ate out yesterday too. i have a chicken and bacon ceaser salad instead of a burger and chips cos I thought it would be 'gooder' but actaully it was slathered in ceaser sauce and loads of bacon and parmasan. Bloody lovely though! I treated myself to a small bar of chocy on the way home too! But it was OK back on the 'wagon' today and feel fine about it. Not going to rush out and buy choccy or anything. I am still teetering on the edge of the 11 stones but still stubbornly on the edge of the 12's. Not worried though, I know I'm going in the right direction. Comfort food, I hear you. Its a nightmare. For me...I have had to go cold turkey and no comfort food whatsoever. Hunger i can deal with - food cravings are something else altogether. I am zero tolerance on food cravings til I have things under control but proper hungry I'll eat something. But not carbs. Unless its a meal and then small amounts. Loads of veg and plenty protein. I have signed up for over 50s pilates! That'll be fun. Lol. So....my tip for the week. Sort the cravings from the hunger. Listen to one and ignore the other. :)

Thecatgotmytongue · 21/08/2016 03:34

I've been low carbing for three days and have lost four pounds Smile

However it's my birthday tomorrow, do I may put a bit back on, as I'm having a slice of cake!

Lorelei76 · 21/08/2016 09:44

Well done cat and happy birthday.
I'm feeling headachey and rubbish after my stressful day yesterday but there's no junk in the flat so hopefully I can't overeat!

OP posts:
Lorelei76 · 22/08/2016 17:06

Another pound down, yay!

OP posts:
humblesims · 23/08/2016 12:32

i'm into the 11's. rah rah. bit headachy too actually. think there is a bug going around. I'm having my lunch now....figs tomatoes (from the garden) mozerella dried apricots pine nuts olive oil lemon juice salt and pepper and a couple of nairn oat cake things. yum. I've been getting quite into that Eat Well For Less program with the very annoying greg wallace but they have some good recipes on there. I'm going to try mackeral kedgeree later. Onwards ladies!

Lorelei76 · 23/08/2016 13:22

Well done Humble!
I'm starting to feel like this is actually going to work Grin

OP posts:
Thecatgotmytongue · 23/08/2016 14:02

Well done lorelei and humble Smile

I didn't eat healthily yesterday, we had s day out in London and I had a pack of crisps on the coach, a coffee frappe, a scoop of ice cream, and shared a strawberry milkshake with dd.

However, we walked miles and miles, so maybe not too bad.

Lorelei76 · 23/08/2016 14:26

That's okay cat
One of the reasons I started a general casual thread is I figured it would be a good long term thing and long term means eating out is going to happen, I had a lovely meal out Thursday, including dessert!
So it's all good Grin
I want to lose the weight once and in a sustainable way.

OP posts:
humblesims · 23/08/2016 14:52

Totally cat having a packet of crisps and a bit of ice cream is not going to break the weightloss bank. On a bad day I could eat six packet of crisps and the best part of a whole ben and jerries so dont beat yourself up! In fact praise you for keeping things in moderation. :)

Thecatgotmytongue · 24/08/2016 01:38

Thanks.

I thought I'd maybe be safe because I walked all day, but when I weighed myself this morning I'd put the 4 lbs I'd lost back on. Since then I've eaten all day Sad

Tantpoke · 24/08/2016 08:13

I've just started following this thread and have now got the mfp app, which I think might actually distract me enough from eating too much, I say hopefully.
A huge spare tyre has magically appeared from nowhere around my tummy so I'm unable to fit into most of my summer clothes.
Off on holiday next week so I will be drastically cutting down for the next 7 days.
ESP as mfp has in no certain terms advised me that my food choices can be be less than ideal, and there I was thinking I was eating healthily.
I can but try.
