A weight loss thread for just eating less

Lorelei76 · 18/07/2016 13:48

hello all
short version

have tried to lose weight a few times!

going for the "eating less" approach. Had a long weekend break, now starting in earnest with the hope of a boot camp style month.

I don't eat a huge amount of junk, but nonetheless want to tackle my sweet tooth as it certainly doesn't help with anything. I only have sugar free jelly in the house to eat now if I have the urge for something sweet - I've learned from experience that if I have no options at all, I will just start eating anything.

I am also trying to eat less - smaller meals, in some cases not 3 meals a day because I don't always need that.

it is a casual approach but I find calorie counting etc really boring. I walk a lot and do some weight training and yoga so all good on that front.

anyone fancy joining me? I think it would be nice to check in once a day just to say "I haven't overeaten" and share it with someone!

Ok so definitely committed to do better from today.

Breakfast: 1/2 a banana, few spoons of DD 's cereal.

Lunch: cup a soup, yoghurt, Choc covered rice cake

Dinner: 5 potato croquettes, a breaded chicken breast, small portions of carrots, runner beans and cauliflower.

Definitely had smaller portions, no eating between meals and no dessert after dinner.

Going to go for a run/walk later once kids are in bed. It'll be the first time in a long time as I only gave birth 5 weeks ago.

Need to stop eating kids leftovers exercise more and up water intake.

Lorelei76 · 26/07/2016 19:11

well done becks!

I don't think I need a dinner today - had a very late breakfast and a very late lunch. these days always work better.

beckslovestimmy · 26/07/2016 21:38

Well I did it!! 3 miles run, no stopping/walking! Here's to another good day tomorrow!

Lorelei76 · 26/07/2016 22:38

Well done Becks! That's great.

I did end up having to eat something so went for cherries and yogurt.

Can I join in?
I've got about a stone and half to lose - but not really into weighing myself so I'm going to go off clothes.

Today I've had an unreasonable amount of marmite on toast so will start properly tomorrow!

beckslovestimmy · 26/07/2016 23:02

Thank you lorelei.
Welcome and hi Blurton.

Patchworkrainbow123 · 27/07/2016 07:39

Morning , hope it's ok if I hop on too. I've got 9lb to loose (the begin with) but have struggled massively with motivation and self control.

In the past I've lost over 3 stone with apps like mfp but can't face having to calorie count or 'diet' again. My weight has been yo yo ing these last few years and I would really like to get it under control once and for all.

Did a big food shop/meal plan yesterday. My biggest downfall is my love of bread, pastry and a sweet tooth. I'm trying to reduce sugar as I know it's a massive trigger for me to pig out. Think I'm going to try the daily weighing too. I think it will motivate me to keep going..well that's the theory!

Lorelei76 · 27/07/2016 17:36

Ate cake today out of sheer boredom (at work)

Not great, I know. But no point dwelling...just have to crack on again.

that recipe that keeps popping up on the side of MN is bugging me. Grr.

good thing I can never be arsed to bake sweet stuff! Grin

beckslovestimmy · 28/07/2016 21:56

Another 3mile run done, i'm having smaller portions but the crappy snacks are so hard to give up!!Blush

Lorelei76 · 28/07/2016 22:31

Well done becks
I managed to avoid junk today after yesterday's cake!

I am desperate to workout - can't recall if I said I had a middle ear infection so been feeling too rough, normally gym often - and I nearly did after work but decided not to and I'm glad I didn't because even giving the flat a good clean has worn me out.

Hopefully tomorrow which is also last day of antibiotics. Sometimes I think they make me feel a bit odd.

Well done Becks! I walk dogs for two and a half hours or so each day, but could not run to the end of the street!

Lorelei, that is very nasty! Go easy on yourself, you might need another course of ab's to really get rid of it, it does make you feel spaced out.

I fell off the goody two shoes diet yesterday. Made a huge pasta bake and pigged out. Result. Fell asleep on the sofa at 7pm, felt bloated and crap all evening.

Problem is, there is a load left over........

beckslovestimmy · 29/07/2016 08:20

Thanks toold and lorelei. I used to run quite a bit but hadn't run for over a year because of being pregnant. I'm finding it really really hard but I'm determined to keep going and improve my pace. I recon I can nearly walk as fast as I run!! Grin. Still working on the food thing. We've got family coming for Chinese and drinks on Saturday, not sure what to do. I think I'll try not to each much all day and then not pig out when the food arrives!

MintCakeMavis · 29/07/2016 08:40

Hi all, this is perfect timing for me. I'm on my last day of a holiday and planning what I need to buy to give myself the chance to eat better, healthier and less than I have recently.

I'll start properly on Sunday (nearly a full day's drive tomorrow) and shed this extra stone in weight that I've put on with bad habits over the past year.

Toooldtobearsed · 29/07/2016 09:18

Oh Mavis...... i am off on holiday on Monday. We have a motorhome and are doing the Cotswolds, Lyme Regis, Brighton and Norfolk Broads.
I am expecting to put back on what i have lost..... too much lovely local produce to try😐

humblesims · 29/07/2016 13:24

i had some trifle yesterday it was lovely! But! Iwas good. I only had a small spoonful instead of -half the trifle- two big ones. Grin
Being good today. I have caught the last couple of episodes of Eat Well For Less which actually has some great ideas for healthy meals. Yesterday I made fritattas and the were ok. Today I am going to make baked sweet potatoes for tea. I am officially under twelve and half stone now. If I could get into the 11's I'd be well happy. My size sixteen jeans are looking a bit baggy. One of the things that kickstarted me was not being able to do them up.

humblesims · 29/07/2016 13:25

gah! my first attempt at scoring through witty comment failed!

ppeatfruit · 29/07/2016 13:46

Just a word to encourage you all Grin I lost nearly 3 stone (my target) doing this . But I used The Paul Mc kenna way of eating which is getting to know your body.

You eat only when you're hungry and eat SLOWLY ,really tasting and enjoying the food , so you don't cut down on good fats, no 'diet' foods or drinks, or counting calories. But you STOP when you feel full. This means that you can't eat a 3 course meal. I often have a dessert for a meal Grin. Still maintaining the weight loss though!!

You drink far more water and or herbal teas, esp. when you feel hungry , which could be thirst.

Lorelei76 · 29/07/2016 15:44

Ppeartfruit, I have a feeling we had this conversation before (apols if it wasn't you) - I absolutely do not see this eating less method as being like Paul McKenna, what I'm doing is completely the opposite of what his method is. Great that it worked for you but I'd like to keep this as an "eating less" thread and I respectfully request that if you or anyone else wants to do or stick with the Paul methods, then that should be on another thread.

Welcome along newbies

Im feeling up to working out after, work, so looking forward to it. Also managed to get some cheaper no cal spaghetti, though I should probably just make room for that in my budget tbh as I find it so useful.

I have been flitting between this thread and a thread about perimenopause. One of the reasons I want to get my weight and diet correct is because I want to be in a better position weight wise when the menopause hits fully. Most of last fifteen years I have swung between eating well and eating crap. All mood and hormone related I think. I could never quite get a grip on it. When I was eating well I couldnt imagine why I used to eat badly and when I was eating badly I couldnt imagine how I ever managed to eat well. Does this ring a bell? So anyway that is why I feel quite good with my progress over the last two or three months and my steady weight loss but I am very conscious of the fact that it could all fall apart so easily and the bad eater take over again. I am being strict but flexible. The last couple of days have been horrendous hormone wise and as a result I am craving like a madwoman. I really want loads of toast butter and jam (prefereably curled up in bed with a packet of chocolate digestives to folow and a bottle of red wine!). Argh. I am resisting though. I had four chocolate digestives yesteday but am not going to beat myself up about that. I need for the good eating side of me to 'stick'. Anyway, no real update just waffle. Hope everyone else is doing OK. Oh yeah...the NDN are having a BBQ. Man it smells goooood!!

NameChanger22 · 31/07/2016 18:35

I gave up sugar for a year and I didn't lose any weight at all, so I'm not going to try that again. For the last 2 weeks I've been eating less and I've cut out bread, cakes and biscuits and most carbs but I've still been eating rice and potatoes. I've been trying to eat more veg and more protein.

I hope I lose some weight, I would like to lose about 2 stones but I know that's going to take a long time so I don't want to cut calories too drastically to start off.

Today I ate 2 bananas for breakfast (one at 8am, one at 10am) and a cup of tea, a jacket potato with coleslaw, a bit of cheese and salad for lunch, rice noodle and tofu soup for dinner followed by two little rice crispy cakes. I'm going to eat some fruit later and more tea. This is a typical day.

Lorelei76 · 31/07/2016 18:39

Hi there
I feel for you, it sounds like what happens pre period sometimes.

Humble, please hang out here if we can help! I'm 40 and I know it should, in theory, be a way away - and my mum lost a bunch of weight in menopause - but I also really wanted to be rid if the sweet tooth in advance of the future if that makes sense.

My boss and cousin have gained loads in menopause and I just thought that it would be good to get the empty calories, or maybe I should say the ones that aren't doing much nutrition wise, out of the equation. I'm very short as well which doesn't help in terms of extra poundage and how it looks.

After the "bored at work" cake eating, I haven't had any more slip ups.
Going to weigh myself tomorrow, hope it's good, but feeling all right generally with it too which is nice.

OP posts:
MintCakeMavis · 03/08/2016 19:33

I've had a few days of healthy eating with no snacks so that's a good start. I also weighed myself today and know that I need to lose 10lb, ideally a stone. I'm going to weigh myself once a fortnight as more than this and I can too easily get demotivated.

How's everyone else doing?
