I need to lose 3.5 stone - feel so fed up about it I am ignoring the mince pies and Thornton's chocolates! I have lost weight before with a great bunch of ladies on mn. I feel motivated to do the same again and this time keep it off, I went through my wardrobe and found a very stylish tunic I bought in the South of France that I wore once before gaining weight.

Whatever your approach - low carb, Weight Watchers, Slimmers World or healthy eating, all welcome to join me with motivational tips/chat to keep each other going. I find that I don't stick to any plan and eating at meals times/snack on veg and fruit/exercise works for me.

Look forward to chatting with whoever wants to join Smile

Can i join too? I always seem to lurk on these diet and exercise threads reading about good intentions and doing nothing myself.

Am going to do 5:2 which worked previously, then life got in the way. Am planning on getting in my bike to (or at least dh's bike - and not that is not a euphanism!). Tried c25k but my body rebelled.

thanks prettybird.

Don't get me wrong, I can happily have a bag of Doritos and dip for dinner with the best of them :) but in general my diet is pretty healthy & balanced.

It is more complex emotionally than just eating half though - but yes I guess that is the general point. I don't need to radically change what I eat (and I will not be eating "diet" foods as such), but simply how much I eat. I'm trying to learn to give my body what it needs and not what it doesn't. I'm trying to relearn what a 'normal healthy' plate for ME looks like (clue it's not what my Mum taught me is "normal".

I do need to focus on evening meals - I'm a single parent and once the DC are in bed it can be hard to stay motivated to cook and eat a proper meal, so I'm trying to keep things simple, easy and nutritious.

Notsoskinnyminny · 12/01/2016 18:29

Some great losses ladies, and for those who haven't lost don't give up and fall into the biscuit tin, think of the summer clothes lurking in the back of the cupboard and lets make this year the year we can wear them Grin

Lovelyfriend I found the winter months easier when I was on my own as a casserole would last a couple of days and just had to be warmed in the microwave so there was less time to be tempted when thinking what to have.

34 days until skinnyDD comes home so must get my arse in gear and dust off the 30 day shred/kettlecise dvds.

FluffyPersian · 12/01/2016 19:49

Covent Garden Soup was epic.. got lots more portions for the next few days which I'm really happy about as I'm seeing a friend after work tomorrow so won't be back home until 8pm. Last year I'd have grabbed a pasty from the train station or a Burger King... tomorrow I'm going to have a snack at 5:30pm and wait until I get to home and microwave some more soup / dahl

Hope everyone has had a healthy day! Grin

Finally made it back, I've very impressed, and jealous worth the weight losses!

Spent last week having the period from hell, so just relieved I didn't put on more, but remained the same Monday when I WI. Aiming for as near a fast day as I can today, yoghurt for breakfast, salad & cheese for lunch, and will make roasted carrot & coriander soup for supper. Dp will attack it with bread, but I will see if I have sufficient will power to not have bread (yummy crusty bread, a real possibility I cave and have one slice!)

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/01/2016 07:22

Morning Brew

If I was still a Wednesday weigher, I'd be weighing in with a 2lbs loss today!

If it's any less than that by Friday, I shall STILL be a Wednesday weigher

Grin

Off to catch up.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 13/01/2016 07:46

Chickenpox Error no! How is she? How are the exams looking? Gin for you!

Downstairs Think you might be right, MFP doesn't let you do it unless you are close to cals, inc those you have claimed through exercise. It really doesn't seem very much though, I put in that I wanted to lose between 1 and 2 pounds a week, I'm 5ft 8. What did you see at the cinema? Saw the Danish Girl with DD, which i thought was excellent. Eddie Redmayne does the tortured soul so well, but thinking next I'd like to see Joy, someone at work was raving about it.

GBBO15 I certainly didn't lose weight when I was breastfeeding, in total over both it was for about 4 years, my good friend went almost skeletal feeding hers at the same time, weight literally dropped off her, not me ffs!

GettinTrimmer Is the Great South a 10K? Think that's the one Knotty's DH has done, a 5K would be my limit, although I do like a challenge. Have recently been looking at the abseiling off GW as a fundraiser, be bonkers, but rather fancy it. Friend is doing one off Guildford Cathedral, got me thinking!

Squad 10K? We can do that!

Fluffy You poor thing, back pain is fecking hideous, can you get to a chiro? Mine goes from time to time, but rarely and usually doing something insignificant like taking asking out of the machine or something stupid. Hope you are soon on the mend. x

LovelyFriend Welcome, relearning is complex, hypnotherapy sounds good, hopefully this lovely supportive group will be too. In it together. x

Bringonsummer Think B would agree with you - I certainly do! Welcome to you too, arf at DH's bike being a euphemism Grin

Notsoskinnyminny Where has DD been? Sorry if I've missed it up thread.

B Bloody syns - are they sins?

FlagranteDelicto and Fluffy - think soups the way to go in this weather, I make a carrot and ginger one which always goes down well.

Epic!

Catch you all later

helenahandbag · 13/01/2016 08:30

Okay, I'm ready to smash my scales into a million pieces. I'm now 13st 13.5?? I'm 2lbs heavier than I was before I started calorie counting and exercising! I had a brilliant day yesterday and I drank 3L of water so I was hoping for good things as Wednesday is usually my lightest day. No, 1lb ON overnight Sad

I'm going back to SW, there's a new Saturday morning class literally at the end of my street and I have a voucher for free joining.

MABS · 13/01/2016 08:32

Absolutely no idea how! and truly didn't deserve it at all, I have lost 1lb!! really thought i would be gaining today :(

MABS thats fabs :)

Oh I'm so flaky, but have decided I am going to stick and be a Wednesday weigher. I found being a Friday weigher that I went all wooooooohooooooooooo after weighing in, and that is a bad thing for me to think I can do.

So am weighing in with a 2lbs loss

Well done pisty and mabs

And yes Syns are sins aka bad aka yummy treats on SW :)

helenahandbag · 13/01/2016 09:19

Nooo, syns aren't sins! It's short for "synergy", it's all about how the food works in your body.

No bad connotations at all Smile

Bringonsummer · 13/01/2016 09:37

Well done pisty on the 2lbs and MAB on the 1lb.

I am on fast day today, no dc all day, dh away and no office to tempt me with chocolates and cakes, really what could go wrong?

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 13/01/2016 10:17

Well done one the losses & welcome to the newbies.
I should confess to being an every day weigher but have one WI a week. Yesterday, I was down a lb & spent the day thinking how it was great that I was losing so much weight & eating so much which obviously put me in the wrong frame of mind as, whilst I didn't go off the rails, I did relax a bit and that lb is back on. Damn! I will re-double my efforts today...although that may be tricky as it was too frosty to run this morning & may be by the time I get to go out again tonight.
Gettin - yes, I think the tagine could have done with chickpeas.
Fluffy - I'm going to make that soup/dahl next week. My usual fallback is lentil soup or parsnip & apple. Blondes I think the p&a recipe was one you told me about years ago.
Lovely I know what you mean & that is one of the reasons WW & SW don't work for me. I can eat extraordinary amounts of "free" food which, of course, isn't free as it all has some calorie content & if you eat as much of it as I can, it quickly mounts up.
Bringon stay away from the cupboards!

Error404usernamenotfound · 13/01/2016 10:24

Congrats on losses, Pistey and MABS. helena, listen to Pistey, she speaks sense. 1lb is roughly equal to 3,000 calories, which means that to put on 1lb of fat, you have to eat 3,000 calories in addition to what your body can burn off. There is no way you will have done that in the time allowed, so it will just be water retention, food still in transit etc. Are you drinking plenty of water?

My exams will go ahead, thanks to a brilliant husband, an ace MIL, and an understanding employer. That child of mine doesn't half choose her moments though... Grin

amandalk91 · 13/01/2016 10:29

Hi all, sorry to interrupt haha. I've recently started to try lose weight and it was going well for a bit I lost 12 pounds. But now everything's stopped? Nothing changed, still eating healthy and exercising but it's just plateaued. Help! I don't want to give up. I've got another 3 stone to lose.

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 13/01/2016 10:45

Just popping back on to wish Error good luck in her exams today.

Error404usernamenotfound · 13/01/2016 10:54

Thank you Thatsnot! I really shouldn't be on here this morning, I still have some cramming to do...

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2016 11:05

Some Syns are bad Grin

But agree need some in life every day

Diff foods have diff values usually drowning in their fat and calorie etc

Blondeshavemorefun · 13/01/2016 11:07

Indeed I did do a parsnip and apple soup. Was yummy. Am I scatty and don't rem you fluffy or did you name change?

FluffyPersian · 13/01/2016 11:47

RatherBeOnThePiste Back pain is utterly horrendous isn't it? Sad I actually went to the Chiropractor yesterday and she helped for a good few hours... it's still bad today and I've got another appointment next Tuesday (which I'm counting down the hours to, at the moment!) I think mine went on the tube, when it was stopping and starting... Urgh! I hope yours doesn't go any time soon... It's always the bottom right as well...

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean Honestly, it's well yummy (even though I appreciate my pictures aren't exactly Masterchef standard Grin) Just be warned however... it could cause one to 'trump somewhat' hahahaha... Lots of fibre and lots of vitamins, but I found it rather wind making Smile

helenahandbag I'm sorry to hear you've had a crap result on the scales and it's so demotivating, but logically.. if you're eating healthily, you are doing the right thing... I imagine if you stepped on the scales 30 minutes later, a different result would be shown and if you got really drunk tonight and ate a massive burger and chips and stepped on tomorrow.. you could weigh lighter! (this is in my experience, anyway).

I am still doing well... Porridge and a banana today so far... However I am going through the 'I really just want to know if I've lost weight' phase, which is frustrating, as I'm seeing the losses that you ladies are stating and feel like a right fraud as still have a big, fat zero next to my name! Will keep on going at the moment though.. and will be posting on 31st January with hopefully a really good loss Smile

FluffyPersian · 13/01/2016 11:48

Blondeshavemorefun Not name changed.. only been on Mumsnet for a few months (6 or so?) I don't post that much, really.. very boring Grin

TheVeryThing · 13/01/2016 12:04

Some fantastic losses on this thread, well done everyone, and sympathy to those who are feeling frustrated.

I actually forgot to weigh in on Monday but did yesterday and I was down 1.5lbs (are we counting half pounds? please say we are)

I was pretty pleased with that (although it's only about half of what I put on over Christmas) as I am going with a sort of 'easing myself in gently' approach.

Lots of bad habits have crept in over the last 18 months and I'm not going to be able to eliminate them straight away.

I finally started the shred yesterday, but not counting calories or points etc. I may re-assess in a month or so, depending on how I'm getting on.

Good luck with the exam, today error.
