I need to lose 3.5 stone - feel so fed up about it I am ignoring the mince pies and Thornton's chocolates! I have lost weight before with a great bunch of ladies on mn. I feel motivated to do the same again and this time keep it off, I went through my wardrobe and found a very stylish tunic I bought in the South of France that I wore once before gaining weight.

Whatever your approach - low carb, Weight Watchers, Slimmers World or healthy eating, all welcome to join me with motivational tips/chat to keep each other going. I find that I don't stick to any plan and eating at meals times/snack on veg and fruit/exercise works for me.

Look forward to chatting with whoever wants to join Smile

Gosh things have been a bit hectic in the fresh household (we are moving country in less than 3 months) but have been lurking on the thread for support when I can. Very happy to see some great comments, comforting to see some meltdowns and recoveries and in general loving the thread.

Weighed in this morning, 3lb lost so 12 to go. Expect there will be some others updating today, have put in those I've picked up on the thread, apols to any I've missed (am on my phone):

I was planning on having a treat day today but decided to stick to the plan while I'm not craving anything particularly.

Today's food:

B - fruit and fat free natural yoghurt
L - 2 pieces of wholemeal toast with some spaghetti hoops
D - fish, potatoes, carrots, broccoli and cauliflower

Snacks - fruit, cherry tomatoes, cooked ham.

Drinks - tea, plain water, strawberry flavoured water and a glass of diet coke.

I have also used all 15 syns today on a little pig out but happily haven't gone over. I've had a packet of weight watchers crisps (5 syns) and a twin pack of milky ways (10 syns).

WellTidy · 11/01/2016 16:07

Wow, there are some really motivating success stories on this thread, and its only the second week of January. Huge congrats to those who have lost weight and made changes to their diet and lifestyle.

I have lost 3lb. I am sooooo pleased.

Ive updated the list (cut and pasted from freshstart's post this afternoon.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/01/2016 16:48

Gah, feeling all out of sorts today, no idea why!

MFP is fine until you get to home cooking really. So yesterday we had roasty chook, then I always make a soup, so just left overs with onion, carrots, few herbs, really nothing exciting. I do bung in a few bigger bones etc, let in simmer away in the slow cooker. Glorified stock. But what on earth would be the cals in this ffs?!

And no gin until Friday

ChristmasCabbage · 11/01/2016 17:26

Thanks for the welcomes!

Today:

B: 20g cornflakes no milk (not because of diet but because I hate milk on cerealrs) and a cup of tea (about 100cal)
D: A toasted sandwich thin topped with lemon and thyme tuna and a packet of Walkers crisps (about 450cal)
T: Salmon and goats cheese pasta recipe (about 550cal)
Snack: Cornflakes no milk (about 100cal)

No exercise though Blush

GettinTrimmer · 11/01/2016 17:58

Hello all, congrats to everyone who has lost.

Fluffy I know you weigh in once per month, and someone upthread mentioned weighing in once per month also. I am thinking I may join you - the weight will start coming off slowly and I don't want to be disheartened by the scales - trying to start off how I mean to go on and not cutting out home made pizza etc, just smaller portions; trying to balance cooking for dh and kids.

Are you still low carbing Pistey?

Also a welcome from me Cabbage Smile

I've just been for a run(ish), slowly, but pleased I went!

Anybody who goes to gym/exercise classes, have you tried a class called Insanity? I am waiting until I am a bit fitter before starting, it sounds brutal...

FluffyPersian · 11/01/2016 19:56

The only thing I've heard called Insanity is when I turn on the TV and there's those people, jumping up and down, offering you 4 DVD workouts called 'Insanity' where you can get 'killer abs' etc!

GettinTrimmer -Yup, I'm only weighing myself once a month... I'm actually really itchy to weigh myself now as it's been 11 days, but I won't... as I really do want to just 'not think about food' in that way (e.g. I eat twice as much as I should) and generally just exercise as routine, as opposed to a 'diet'.

Things are still going well thankfully... Porridge for breakfast, banana for a snack... small salad for lunch.. and a chicken salad with lentils and croutons in a balsamic glaze for dinner Smile

Tomorrow I'm making my Covent garden soup!

newcoventgardensoup.com/recipes-grouping/sweet-potato-spinach-dhal/

I've made it before and it's amazing.. I'm just going to substitute vegetable stock for home made chicken stock which is currently boiling on the stove.

Nom.. Nom.. Nom Grin

GBBO15 · 11/01/2016 22:08

So sad about David Bowie today Sad

Tortoise, until this last week I was only losing half a pound a week and was getting so frustrated, but I kept at it and a stone off me now Smile. Just keep going, maybe a monthly weigh in is an idea. Of course, you may have lost more than you think and you'll see it on the scales next time. Don't give up, it sounds like you're doing great!

Well done to everyone who's lost!

MABS · 12/01/2016 07:46

well done to you all. I will WI tomorrow but expect to have gained rather than lost

GettinTrimmer · 12/01/2016 08:08

thanks for link Fluffy - did you see Covent Garden are offering £1 coupon off soups? If you go anywhere near Sainsbury, they have reduced some Covent Garden soups to £1 - so free soup!

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 12/01/2016 08:39

Tortoise - it is so frustrating when you feel you've done everything you should & yet the scales don't co-operate. I have had many a week like that. I have said I want to lose another 4lbs by the end of the month which should totally be achievable & yet I'll be surprised if I manage it.
GBBO how's the baby sleeping? It was only once mine started sleeping through well down to one wake up that I was able to start losing weight properly. Until then, I just craved carbs & sugar.
I'm doing well on the food & exercise front. Really pleased as I did a 5k run on Sat (in the pouring rain) and last night and it felt comfortable. I have got my running mojo back Grin. I am so glad I did Couch 2 5k.
We had a delicious veg tagine last night. Chop up some carrot, butternut squash, red pepper & red onion and chuck it in the slow cooker with a tin of tomatoes, some oil, runny honey, cumin, cinnamon, paprika & mild chilli powder and leave for several hours to do its thing. Serve with cous cous.

Morning all, well done to all the losers amd welcome to newbies ! I've been in hiding, the weekend was awful, a lot of cake Blush

I was due on over the w/e and think that had something to do with it!

Kim82 · 12/01/2016 08:53

Good morning everyone. I'm bloody starving this morning! I'll have to find something to eat before I go and do my weekly shop later otherwise I'll buy all sorts of junk. Shopping when hungry is never a good idea...

My planned menu today is:

B - weetabix (if there are any left in the cupboard)
L - omelette with ham, red onion, mushrooms and tomatoes
D - pork steak with slimming world chips and plenty veg

Snacks - the usual fruit and natural yoghurt, carrot sticks an probably a freddo or curly wurly later.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 12/01/2016 09:27

Morning chums, welcome all newly arrived, hugs for the disheartened.

Scales are saying the same thing here, no movement and I'm doing all the right things. 1200 cals plus exercise 6 out of 7 days. Obvs keeping going.

Not low carbing no, I did lose weight on it, but the high fat did weird things to my blood and it wasn't right for me ultimately, but I'm not eating processed carbs, feel better for it.

Does anyone else see WI and think Women's Institute? Just me? To be fair we rewatched Calendar Girls not long ago Grin

Shopping when hungry is never a good idea no!

Cracking on, catch you laters x

Error404usernamenotfound · 12/01/2016 09:59

Hi all, the next few days are going to be interesting; DD has suspected chickenpox, which doesn't seem to be causing her too much trouble as she is currently bouncing around the living room as usual, just covered in spots. Trouble is, I have an exam tomorrow, and another next Tuesday. Bugger.

Haven't eaten breakfast yet, not really hungry as am too stressed.

Thats not- she's sleeping much better but has settled into a bizarre pattern of not really going over until 3/4am then sleeping until maybe 10am. I'm so grateful to be getting a stretch of sleep now though! Yes it's so hard to eat healthy things when you're knackered. I'm also convinced breastfeeding has made it harder also- in the early days after she was born I actually managed to put ON weight Blush. That said, I am naturally quite greedy so maybe I shouldn't blame it all on the breastfeeding...

Well done with the running. I got out at the weekend too and really enjoyed it. Have treated myself to some new running gear that actually fits to help encourage myself back into it.

GettinTrimmer · 12/01/2016 10:58

That'sNot your vegetable tagine sounds awesome, will copy that one! I fancy chick peas with it. Have you done 5K/10K runs before such as Race for Life - I did the Great South Run twice.

error what a pain about your exams, it's good your dd is not feeling too unwell with it - hope you sort something.

Agree Piste and Kim one of the big mistakes I've made is shopping while hungry....

Downstairs yes once per month could be better, not quite made up my mind yet, will weigh in this week, then perhaps leave it till 1st Feb.

My hairdresser is here, she said I look like I've lost weight!

SquadGoals · 12/01/2016 12:08

I've lost just under a kilo since last week (about 1.8lbs) so happy with that.

Not expecting to lose much this week, I've got AF and always gain weight. Doesn't help that I have the absolute munchies so have just stuck some brownies in the oven.

Only 10kg to go Grin

FluffyPersian · 12/01/2016 12:49

Currently eating a lovely baked sweet potato with beans... Smile

Unfortunately I've thrown my back out again.. which means it's painful, which means I feel pants and want chocolate!

However, my extra weight is hardly helping my back, so I'm not going to eat any chocolate and make a cup of tea instead.

Because I'm such a black and white personality, there are literally no shades of grey at all, if I have anything fatty at all, I feel like I've 'failed', so find it really challenging to eat 'bad' food in moderation.

As I have a significant amount to lose, I'm going to try and refrain from chocolate for January and February but need to get my head around the fact that even if I have one small chocolate bar, I'm not a failure and it doesn't mean that my healthy eating has failed.

LovelyFriend · 12/01/2016 13:37

Hi all - I'd love to join in. I am using a hypnotherapy ap which I listen to at bedtimes.

My main issue is overeating - giant portions have been "normal" to me since I was a child - so I am having to rewire myself internally. My actual diet is usually pretty healthy - I just eat way too much for my requirements.

"Diets" are really no good for me - I'm 48 now and I need a lifestyle change.

BMI calculator tells me I need to lose 48 kilos to be in the middle of "normal BMI range" - but that is not my goal. I simply can't see how that would work or feel right for me. So my initial goal is to get to 90 kilos (23 to lose) and reassess from there.

Started last week properly and have lost 1.5 kilos in my first week. I'm eating what I want but focusing on eating only when hungry and stopping when I'm no longer hungry. I'm taking the steps/guidelines one step at a time. This month my main focus is on drinking lots of water every day.

If you say you eat healthily but just too much already, I remember reading how Sandi Toksvig had success losing weight simply by halving whatever was on her plate.
