I need to lose 3.5 stone - feel so fed up about it I am ignoring the mince pies and Thornton's chocolates! I have lost weight before with a great bunch of ladies on mn. I feel motivated to do the same again and this time keep it off, I went through my wardrobe and found a very stylish tunic I bought in the South of France that I wore once before gaining weight.

Whatever your approach - low carb, Weight Watchers, Slimmers World or healthy eating, all welcome to join me with motivational tips/chat to keep each other going. I find that I don't stick to any plan and eating at meals times/snack on veg and fruit/exercise works for me.

Look forward to chatting with whoever wants to join Smile

And I have decided I need to have one big treat a week (this week it was cheese and biscuits after an otherwise healthy meal) and be a bit more relaxed at the weekends, though not totally crazy!! Otherwise it will not be sustainable. And that's what I'm going for :-)

ThatsNotMyHouseItIsTooClean · 10/01/2016 22:50

This is going too quickly for me to keep up!
Good to see more losses. Well done everyone!
I've had a pretty good weekend. Today is my day off from exercise & it felt quite odd! I also felt odd this afternoon as I had a massive slice of pavlova at lunchtime and haven't eaten much sugar since NYE.
I need to stay just the wagon this week. If I can lose another 4lbs this month, I'll be back at the weight I try not to go above and obviously failed to stick to over Xmas.

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2016 00:13

Well done losers

Yawns

Good luck with all those who wi Tom. Know kim does not sure who else

I am stomping my feet and having a little tantrum.

in the past two weeks I have gone for a brisk walk and/or slow run every second day, religiously, with those walks/runs getting longer, harder and faster every time. I've been eating basically 'clean' - by which I don't mean no wheat or no grains or whatever, but I do mean only good, nutritious food, home cooked, no snacks except fruit. So an average day is (e.g.) coffee and a small chia pudding or yoghurt for breakfast, scrambled eggs with spinach and lean ham for lunch, barbecued vegetables and lean chicken sausages for dinner, cherries for a snack.

I don't drink alcohol. I'm staying away from anything with added sugar - there's been one exception, when I had a slice of my husband's birthday cake.

Using the fitbit, I'm burning 2000-2100 calories every day, and eating around 1500-1600. So I'm coming in UNDER their target deficit of -250 cals. (I'm deliberately trying not to eat less, because my usual problem is that I get obsessive, eat too little and then stack it on again.)

And I've managed one lousy pound! ONE POUND less, in two weeks, compared to when I did no exercise at all and ate family packets of crisps as an evening snack after a day of biscuits.

GOD DAMNIT. TANTRUM.

RatherBeOnThePiste · 11/01/2016 07:13

Morning evvvverrrryone, makes all a morning drink of their choice. Brew

Kim - you OK? Hugs from me x

Arf at Error Grin

Clearly I need to think these cals and exercise.

MABs - I'll be coming to you for therapy when DD does this, at the mo there's no point, they are all heart of the city accommodation, will be the same after this year, but the mo there is parking she'll be nagging, and I suspect our girls would have a similar journey time. Scream. Hope the glass was a biggun. You earned it! Grin

B - we will all have days like this, and must just embrace them, the event is more important than the calories.

Tortoise I absolutely hear you, and this will be me from now on I suspect. A pound is still a pound, don't knock it, and really seriously do take heart from the fact you are a lot fitter, healthier and stronger than when you ate family packets of crisps as an evening snack after a day of biscuits. Just keep on, keeping on. You are doing fabulously.

Think I might change weigh in to a Friday as seems most are doing that.

Cutting out alcohol now on weekdays, I'll be a bloody WRECK by Friday

Just heard David Bowie has died, blimey, my first ever concert was to see him, went to see his exhibition of costume at the V&A last year, big part of my growing up. Bless him. Sad

GettinTrimmer · 11/01/2016 07:46

Morning all

Had quite a few roast spuds yesterday! Sore legs - ouch - so no run also. Oops.

Piste - 1200 sounds pretty low to me, I used to do foodfocus and always ate extra calories. Agree gobsmacked about David Bowie Sad I'm going to watch that episode of Extras this evening, the one where he made up a song, if anyone remembers it, though it was v. funny.

tortoise - 1lb is good, I bet with all the exercise you've lost inches.

Waves - well done on 4lb.

MABS · 11/01/2016 07:56

so sad re David Bowie :(

Yesterday was several large glasses , so written off totally. Yes, Pistey, would be a similar journey length for the daughters i think. What really scares me is that 3 years will have finished late May and she will be finished her degree and says coming back home! that really does frighten me. (Sorry to side track girls)

helenahandbag · 11/01/2016 08:14

I'm getting a bit pissed off with the scales now, they're just wobbling along up and down the same 1lb or so. I'm very slowly losing inches though.

I'm doing gym classes four times a week and really pushing myself while I'm there, I'm tracking my food and keeping my body guessing by slightly zigzagging my calories, I'm eating good fats and drinking plenty of water... argh! Yesterday I was 13st 11.8 after more than a week of 13st 12 - 13st 13, but this morning I'm 13st 12.5 again Angry I know that weight loss isn't linear and I'm doing it in a healthy way but my wedding is in 100 days - I don't have time for this! Sad

MABS · 11/01/2016 08:18

keep going Helena, you are doing everything right!!

helenahandbag · 11/01/2016 08:31

Thanks Mabs, I'll keep pushing but I just need to see some progress somewhere! My clothes fit the same, the tape measure isn't doing a huge amount and the scales are about to be kicked into the garden Grin

I've been at this for a few weeks now and it feels like make or break, I need that push to show me it's working!

Blondeshavemorefun · 11/01/2016 09:20

It was a good day!!!! Tho I may complain Friday if don't lose a lb

Tortoise a lb is a lb but depending on scales maybe you've lost more but don't show oz?

See how match weight you lose over 4 weeks / bet it will be more then 4 lbs

Not sure what to eat today

Going to bed as baby kept me awake with chattering and nails ....... And then will decide

B boiled eggs and fruit

Tortoise – I can completely sympathise.

I find my mood can be totally dependent on what the scales say. I’m ‘good’ and they show a sizable loss, I’m happy…. I’m ‘good’ and they show a little loss or even nothing and I feel really frustrated – that it’s not working and I may as well continue eating cake and lardy things as ‘What’s the point’? I’ve been in that mindset so many times over the last 10 years it’s untrue.

Are you due on, any time soon? I find that just before my period my body decides to hate me, so refuses to lose any weight. Also, I find that sometimes, I won’t lose weight… won’t lose weight… won’t lose weight.. and then, BAM! I’ve lost 3 lbs and I’ve not done anything different.

This year I’m going to try and only weigh myself once a month as logically, I know if I’m healthy eating or not and for me, I’m desperate for this to genuinely be a lifestyle change and not a fad or a short term thing. Despite not having weighed myself this year yet (I jumped on the scales on 1st Jan but only my partner looked at the number). I’ve already noticed a few changes which I’m really happy about.

  1. My mood is a lot more positive
  2. I don’t feel as lethargic in the mornings when getting up at 6:20am to go to work, it’s easier to get up Smile
  3. My trousers don’t feel as tight and I don’t have the ‘fear’ that they’re not going to fit (whereas before, as I was just eating so much junk, I’d always worry that ‘this time will be the last time they’ll fit’)

Maybe carry on as you are for another 2 weeks and see if the scales say anything different? It sounds like you’re doing everything right so I wouldn’t necessarily change anything unless you really want to.

And congratulations for still losing 1lb – It’s only the 11th January so if you continued at that rate, you’d still lose loads of weight this year Grin

Error404usernamenotfound · 11/01/2016 10:32

Morning all,

Had an appalling night's sleep last night. DD woke up about 3am, and proceeded to be unsettled the rest of the night. Even when she went back to sleep I couldn't drift off again until gone 6. We all had a lie in this morning to make up for it, as DH has a day off today. Still feel the need to drink a vat of coffee though.

tortoise and helena, you are both doing the right things, and you are getting fitter and healthier, even if scales and measurements aren't showing it this week. There are loads of reasons why this could be, none of which is 'the diet and exercise aren't working'; bloat, food in transit, gaining muscle/losing inches, etc. Fluffy's advice is very good re noticing the difference in yourself in terms of improve health.

Also, tortoise, you don't have a lot of weight to lose, and it does usually come off more slowly the closer you are to your goal weight; when I've had just a stone or so to lose I've always struggled to lose it any quicker than 1lb a week regardless of amount of exercise/size of calorie deficit.

Kim82 · 11/01/2016 11:58

Just back from weigh in and I'm in shock. I've lost 7.5lb this week! I can't believe I've lost that much when I feel like all I've done is eat all week! I'm so chuffed.

cleanmachine · 11/01/2016 12:00

Tortoise I feel your pain. In the past when I've exercised and eaten well I've never lost. It's so frustrating. I find that I only lose weight if I'm exercising within reason and eating fiairly normally. If I go ott with both my body doesn't budge.

Helena keep going! I bloody hate scales.

Anyone using a fitbit want to friend me? I've begged across various threads in mn this weekend and am still friendless! Hope everyone has a good week.

helenahandbag · 11/01/2016 12:16

Fanbloodytastic Kim, what a great result!

Thanks for the words of encouragement everyone, I'll keep pushing on. I'm actually increasing my calories slightly as there were a couple of days where I was around 1250-1300 and that's far too low for my age/weight/activity levels. Hopefully I'll see some progress soon!

bowbear · 11/01/2016 12:25

Excellent weight losses everyone! Likewise Mab, gutted about David Bowie, what a legend he was :-(

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/01/2016 12:39

Thanks you lot. I knew I could rely on you. Helena, seems like we're in the same boat. So frustrating. I know I don't have a lot to lose, but my goal weight isn't particularly thin either, it just takes me back to my comfortable weight if that makes sense. I'm not trying to carve out an eighteen year olds body or anything.

Clean machine, sure! How do I do that? Same username?

Tortoiseonthehalfshell · 11/01/2016 12:40

Kim that's fantastic! Well done you, and it sounds like you're finding it sustainable if you feel like you're eating constantly. That's great.

Kim82 · 11/01/2016 12:50

I've been doing slimming world downstairs. I've honestly been eating more than I would normally but obviously eating better food than before. I've been eating a packet of crisps and either a freddo or curly wurly every day too though. I've not done any exercise really apart from cleaning and running round after my toddler (and 3 older kids to a lesser extent).

I know it's probably mainly water weight that's gone but it's given me a great boost and made me more determined to stick with it.

LibrariesGaveUsP0wer · 11/01/2016 12:51

Only a pound here. Didn't deserve that to be honest.

And this morning I didn't have breakfast then ate two biscuits at toddler group.

Bowie.Sad Jareth is gone before I could watch it with my kids.

ChristmasCabbage · 11/01/2016 13:04

Hello,

Can I join? I haven't read the whole thread but the stories and motivations are really, well, motivating!

I need to lose about a 1st 4lbs.

I'm dividing my diet into three sets of 30 days.

I'll resume swimming 5 times a week and doing weights 3 times a week. I used to do this back in the middle of last year but I stopped for some reason. I've given up alcohol until Easter.

First 30 days
1,200 calories every day of the week
Working out 5 days a week
Weight lifting 3 days a week
Aim to lose: 8lbs

Second 30 days
Still 1,200 calories during the week
But 2,000 on the two weekend days
Working out 5 days a week
Weight lifting 3 days a week
Aim to lose: 6lbs

Third 30 days
1,500 calories during the week
2,000 on the two weekend days
Working out 5 times a week
Weight lifting 3 days a week
Aim to lose: 4lbs

I started last Wednesday (6th January) and I've lost 2lbs. Unfortunately I haven't been able to swim yet because of period but I intend to start swimming tomorrow.

Good luck everyone Grin
