Starting the no 'S' eating regime today to lose weight, anyone want to join in?

Hi, have got decidedly porky over the past few years.
I feel tired and lethargic, and none of my clothes look good anymore.
I also need to lose weight for health reasons and increase my (currently woeful) level of exercise.

I want to follow a simple and 'do-able' eating plan that is fairly simple and that I will be able to sustain ie hoping to lose 0.5 kg each week.

I'm planning to follow the no 'S' "diet":

book here

A summary of the basic rules is:

no snacks
no sweets (it's an American book so that covers puddings as well as biscuits and confectionary)
no seconds

except on days that start with 's' ie the weekend, and 'special' days ie birthdays and big holidays such as Christmas.

I've got the book so can answer further questions but that is basically it!

I'm going to be using MFP to log calories and I have also found the free NHS weight loss plan (includes exercise) helpful too

see here

I am planning to post my weight here Blush every Sunday too (but that is not obligatory of course).

The other reason for posting on here is that I don't want to bore my family and friends to death about it in rl!! But it would be nice to have some companions along the way Smile.

Anyone want to join in?

Received disappointing news yesterday and of course I ate to compensate. Wasn't a good day diet-wise so think I may have to starve myself today!

Tues:
B piece of white bread with Philadelphia cheese
L bowl of home-made chickpea, butternut squash and root veg soup
(But also had half a cheese and ham sandwich, and a a handful of crisps unfortunately).
S 2 and a half Blush bowls of pasta (one tomato and olive and fennel, the other pesto and parmesan) but two glasses of Wine

snack = bunch of red grapes

I also must fess up to eating 3 plain mini choc eggs (2cm size) at some point but don't know whether that was yesterday or the day before!

Hope you find your glasses eltsihT

Hope carb cravings not quite so strong this week Grumpy

Those pastas sound lovely.

Today is my birthday so I am not dieting today, infact I am going out for dinner with dh and my friend and her dh.

The pastas do sound amazing!

Happy birthday eltsihT :) Flowers Wine

Today I have had:
B: one slice wholemeal toast with a slice of cheese
L: salad lunchbox with Caesar dressing, chicken and olives; apple
D: stirfry noodles with chicken and vegetables

BUT, a bunch of people at work went on a chocolate tasting night out last night and brought in all the (expensive, gorgeous) chocolate they couldn't manage to eat. So I've had a quite a lot of couple of pieces

And I will undoubtedly have a glass of wine when I've picked up DD from drama (in 45 mins). DH has already opened it, but is doing the ironing to compensate for having a sneaky extra glass :)

Hi both!

A very happy birthday to eltsihT Cake Wine Flowers!! Hope you had a lovely day and a lovely dinner with your dh tonight!

Waves to Grumpy congrats on your healthy menu!

Unfortunately the pastas did indeed taste good! (Had some leftovers for lunch today as well as healthy soup!)

Not a particularly good day today either but not terrible

B two pkts of Parovita crackers, black tea with tiny bit of sugar
L chickpea, root veg and butternut squash soup + small plate of pesto pasta
S tiny helping of mash with one fish finger (dh was cooking tonight and I wasn't meant to be eating!)

Had a stevia Coke during afternoon to wake me up.

Bad backache in the early evening so had to lie down for quite a while too!

Ds 2 now has chicken pox, just as ds1 get better.

Not a good day today.
1 slice birthday cake
1/2 slice eggy bread
1 piece of bacon
3 wispa biscuits
2 packets of hula hoops
And 6 Jaffa cakes

And I still have dinner to have.

Going to try not to snack tonight rather than just give up on the day at least I have then done something right

Oh no eltsihT that sounds tough on all of you! I hope your ds2 recovers quickly.

I've had a terrible day diet wise. Suffice to say it ended with Wine and an ice cream Blush

The ridiculous thing is that I tried on some tops that I bought on-line earlier and they looked awful because of my weight! And instead of that inspiring me to greater dieting efforts, it inspired me to give up and eat more! Absurd!

Oh no, sorry to hear about the chicken pox and hope that DS isn't too poorly. My DS1 got it at 2.5, then passed it to DD (then aged 4 months) and worse still I got it at the same time. It was a very, very bad 72 hours; we both had fevers of 40 degrees and BF came to an abrupt end :( Hope your experience is better.
Your menu made me smile and wonder if there is an alternative diet which is just the S diet - have snacks, but no proper dinners!

SC I get the psychology of the tops thing (I am a UK size 12/14 on top, but not busty so I'm always aware of how much my tum [and back fat] shows in anything fitted or clingy. A bad top is a bad thing.). FWIW, I have learned, when trying on clothes in changing rooms, or even at home, to face the other way while getting into them. Then you don't see the flabby bits and get to see how the clothes properly look. But definitely with you on the look bad, feel bad, eat bad.....

Thanks for the kind words Grumpy ! I really needed them this morning after reading and posting on this thread.

I've cut down on bread but I miss it and wasn't losing as much weight as I'd hoped. Think I'll eat a little more bread than I'm doing (I was eating abnormal amounts before !) and do this diet.

It's my birthday soon though!

SC, I read that thread too, but before you posted. I thought about posting too but decided not to. I often write comments and then don't post them.

Ds2 is being a total clingon with his chickenpox so I am still existing on snacks grabbed here and there.

I have gone to my parents second house for the weekend. Hoping a change of scene will help keep me sane.

Welcome sula!

SC I try to say no when I go to the cupboard to get a snack at least once a day. When I manage it it feels like such an achievement.

I am managing not to snack in the evenings when the kids have gone to bed but have had a few gin and tonics so don't think I will loose any weight this weekend.

It's now only 2 weeks till this wedding so I might have to do something drastic to fit into my dress.

eltsihT I wish I had read and not posted actually! Much wiser!

Sorry to hear your ds2 still under the weather. Particularly bad luck with the holiday and everything.

Don't do anything too drastic re: the wedding! Small steps and all of that! Good luck resisting the snacks though!

A warm welcome to ¨Sula!!

I have just had a good haircut which is making me feel slightly less yuck about myself! Now just need the bod to match!

Not looking forward to tomorrow's weigh-in but not giving up either!

Waves to Grumpy and anyone else who is about!

Well, as I thought, I have put back half of the kilo I lost last week (a combo of over-eating and entertaining) although I was surprised I hadn't put back the entire kilo tbh. Floundering as usual. Really not good at this!

Going to make a healthy soup today and at least now it is warmer, it is easier to turn to salads.

61.1kg today, that's up from 60.4kg a week past Sunday.

It's been a hard week, I have had a few glasses of wine, more cakes and biscuits than I care to think about.

I have a busy week next week. I am off taking 30 15yo out on their bronze duke of Edinburgh award expedition so am walking 17miles and camping overnight,

then I have this wedding on the 14th, my dress is still a touch tight but does look nice on. I will try to get a picture to show you all.

Hi!
I have not lost anything - seem reasonably stable at 70.5kg, but it's more than I'd like to be.
eltsihtT, I am a whole 10kg more than you [hoping I'm taller......]. I would like to see a photo of the dress on.
Waves to SC and anyone else who is about.

We are BBQing later as it is glorious weather here today - will be having lots of meat and beer - taking salad for lunch tomorrow.

SpareCrust · 09/05/2016 08:17

eltsihT Well done on getting that zip up!!

Stable is good Grumpy!

I'm down at 85.2 kg so finally going in the right direction, still loads more to lose and spare tyre even more apparent in summer clothes unfortunateley! Hopefully that will spur me on though!

Have a good week everyone!

rivierliedje Dag/salut - lovely to have you back!

And please don't worry, you are not the only one struggling atm! I can- always be relied upon for that!

A sporty weekend sounds like a great place from which to start back though! Good luck with it!

I must go and face the scales. All I seem to have been doing is baking cakes and biscuits and making huge spreads for guests and we have another weekend of the same coming up. I've tried to restrict my portions but haven't always succeeded. Also, my 12 yr old is being a bit, well, feisty atm, and after a disagreement I tend to head towards the choc or biscuits, which is ridiculous at my age I know! Need to find a better way.

Report
rivierliedje · 13/05/2016 14:26

Thanks SC. I have scales at work which for some reason seem much less scary than the ones at home I can always pretend I have heavy clothes on

Sorry about all the typos in my previous post, my ipad is not in English and it does like correcting things.

Going away with friends this weekend and feel a bit embarrased by my weight, but should be good for No s-ing.

Enjoy your weekend away rivierliedje (and true friends don't worry a jot about that sort of thing so don't let it spoil your enjoyment of the trip).
