Hi, have got decidedly porky over the past few years.
I feel tired and lethargic, and none of my clothes look good anymore.
I also need to lose weight for health reasons and increase my (currently woeful) level of exercise.

I want to follow a simple and 'do-able' eating plan that is fairly simple and that I will be able to sustain ie hoping to lose 0.5 kg each week.

I'm planning to follow the no 'S' "diet":

book here

A summary of the basic rules is:

no snacks
no sweets (it's an American book so that covers puddings as well as biscuits and confectionary)
no seconds

except on days that start with 's' ie the weekend, and 'special' days ie birthdays and big holidays such as Christmas.

I've got the book so can answer further questions but that is basically it!

I'm going to be using MFP to log calories and I have also found the free NHS weight loss plan (includes exercise) helpful too

see here

I am planning to post my weight here Blush every Sunday too (but that is not obligatory of course).

The other reason for posting on here is that I don't want to bore my family and friends to death about it in rl!! But it would be nice to have some companions along the way Smile.

Anyone want to join in?

Definitely starting again though! Smile

eltsihT · 15/04/2016 16:44

I am looking forward to Monday and getting restarted. Just have the weekend to finish ds's birthday cake!

SpareCrust · 16/04/2016 19:19

Waves to all!

Starting again tomorrow ... .

Good luck eltsihT and Grumpy and anyone else who is around and starting again!

eltsihT · 17/04/2016 21:27

So restarting tomorrow.

Weighing in at 61.9kg, aiming to get to 60kg

On a side note ds1 has chicken pox and dh is off to Iceland to deal with his mums estate and memorial service there. So it will make next week a little more challenging than I was hoping for

SpareCrust · 18/04/2016 10:09

Good luck with the week ahead eltsihT Hope your ds recovers quickly.

(I remember it being v tough following bereavements, with the logistical and practical necessities taking a v long time to resolve and being v stressful. Hope you and your dh can take some time out for yourselves when you are through the worst.)

Incidentally - we have some v close Icelandic friends - fabulous people!

I am weighing in (shamefully) at 86.3kg; the heaviest I have ever been in my life. I haven't decided yet whether I am going to weigh in each week yet. No idea why, but it seemed to make me want to rebel the other way when I tried it before. So probably not.

In fact, tackling weight loss differently this time. Keeping it to myself and not involving anyone else in rl, just going to plough my own furrow and see what happens. Had a reasonable start yesterday anyway:

B banana with lemon juice and cup of black tea with 1/4 tsp sug
L chicken (thin) noodle soup with 4 Parovita crackers + 2 slices proscuitto and tablespoon of hummous followed by an apple
S home-made chick pea and lentil stew with kale on the side and one small pita bread (but portion probably too large)
Drank loads of water all day

Good luck to everyone (anyone else?) this week who is starting again or maintaining!

grumpysquash · 18/04/2016 10:34

Hi everyone,
I have had guests for the weekend who 1. are always hungry, 2. are vegetarian so meals tend to be carb based, 3. like puddings. It was really lovely to see them but food wise I am now feeling bloated and heavy. On Saturday we ended up going to Wagamama for lunch and then had curry in the evening, with all the trimmings. And cake for afternoon tea :(

I have not weighed myself, but I would guess about 70kg.

I have brought in chicken salad for lunch, and an apple. No carbs for me today as well as no S, I really need to get back on track.

New revised goal: to get to 67kg by the beginning of July. That should theoretically be achievable and will also mean I fit in my cropped jeans.

We just need to get the re-start going properly, then we will be fine!

eltsihT · 18/04/2016 19:03

Good start today but I don't know how long it will last.

B- coffee
L- sandwich, orange, yoghurt, hot fruit juice.
D- chicken, potatoes, peas and sweetcorn.

Currently sitting drinking a pint of water trying not to go to the cupboard. Where there is more chocolate than I care to think about.

Well done everyone else on the good start so far.

eltsihT · 18/04/2016 20:03

Totally caved in and had a large slab of chocolate cake. At least there is no more cake.

SpareCrust · 18/04/2016 20:21

Hey Grumpy as expats we do a fair bit of hosting of visitors and it is hellish for one's diet! Hope you found things easier today!

I found day 2 tough going too eltsihT. Once one is "locked" on to something like chocolate cake in the cupboard, it is very hard to resist. Tomorrow is another day!

B 2 boiled eggs, 1 piece of toast, scraping of low fat butter, Marmite, black tea
L 4 Parovita crackers, cucumber and fennel salad, scraping of hummous & 2 slices proscuitto, apple
S small helping Ikea meat balls and mash with tiny scraping of sauce

Succumbed to another piece of toast at 3pm though.

SpareCrust · 18/04/2016 20:23

Oh yes, had Ikea cracker with tiny scraping of ligonberry jam too ..

grumpysquash · 19/04/2016 17:52

SC sounds like yours is the tiny S diet (i.e. scraping!) :)
I have done ok today and yesterday, except for the crisps.....:(

eltsihT · 19/04/2016 18:41

Argh!
B- coffee
L- left over stir fry veg and a bit of chicken breast.
D- cheese and biscuits

But I got in from work an ate 3 polish kabonos and 2 chocolate truffles, but managed to say no to birthday cake at my friends house.

Not sure how tomorrow will go, I am watching my friends ds as he has chicken pox while she goes to work (she watches mine today)

Well done grumpy, just keep at it. It's hard to get back into a routine of not snacking

eltsihT · 20/04/2016 19:41

B- toast and coffee
L- ham sandwich, carrot sticks, half a bag of Pom bears and a home made cookieBlush
S- home made banana icecream and a cookie
D - mushroom and red pesto pasta

Trying not to snack again today not to hopeful though

SpareCrust · 21/04/2016 08:52

Keep going eltsihT and Grumpy! The first week back is bound to be hard going!

I know we are not officially counting calories on here but I'm logging my food on MFP atm (always do this to start me off) and it is amazing how just one thing (such as the home made rock cake I ate on Tuesday Blush) pushes you over the limit). Also, the fat/protein/sodium/sugar info is interesting. For example, my default lunch when I haven't made home made soup, dh is away and dd is at school, is a chicken noodle soup. Now I have realised just how much humungous quantities of salt is in just one tiny packet I will not be buying them again!

Tues:
B sliced banana with lemon juice and 1/4 tsp sug
L home made chick pea and lentil stew
S roast lamb with oven roasted veg

Snacks Blush one home made rock cake, 4 strawberries, 1 boiled egg, 4 Parovita crackers Blush

Wed:
was very busy rushing around + had indigestion and felt a bit "off" so:
B cup of black tea + 1/4 tsp sugar
L 4 Parovita crackers + black tea with 1/4 tsp sugar
S 1 white soft roll with scraping of butter and Marmite + 1/4 tsp sugar
1/2 tin of Ginger Ale

eltsihT · 21/04/2016 17:38

Feels like a better day today,
B coffee and toast with marmite
L- quiche and mango and strawberry smoothie
D- fish cakes and salad

I also had a small piece of cake and justified it as I spent 2hrs digging a new flower bed.

Quite pleased I didn't snack last night, hope

eltsihT · 21/04/2016 18:00

Hope I do as well tonight

SpareCrust · 22/04/2016 09:35

Yes, don't want to tempt fete, but it feels as though I am a little more in control of portion size and it is getting slightly easier as the week goes on! Just need to be aware of not slipping back too much this weekend.

Thurs:
B 2 pieces white toast, one with ham, one with scraping of butter and jam
L lamb and salad sandwich
S one helping of lamb, rice, peas and green beans

[one tiny tiny bag of Haribo jelly sweets eaten during hwk supervision stress] Blush

SpareCrust · 22/04/2016 10:30

argh "fate"!

eltsihT · 22/04/2016 19:54

The not snacking is so hard.
Had a glass of wine last night and it tastes better with a packet of crisps

B, coffee and toast
L sandwich, packet of crisps, bottle of juicy water (which I know I'd as bad as fizzy juice sugar wise

An ice cream at the country park
2 haribo in the car
Some chips (about 1/3 of a poke) as the boys were having some for dinner and dh wanted some too so they were sitting on my lap
D- half a bowl of pasta bolognaise (as I felt bad for eating the chips)

Hope everyone else has a good day

SpareCrust · 22/04/2016 22:07

I didn't have such a good day today - serves me write for posting about being more "in control" - really annoyed with myself!

Fell down on the shopping/meal planning which meant that I had a much more calorific lunch than intended (got too hungry). Three sets of carbs again!! Yargh!! And it appears eltsihT that we both have a Haribo habit!

B half a piece of white toast with Marmite that dd didn't eat but then ruined it by eating half a bread roll with an eighth of a slice of gouda later on.
L Disaster!! Three lots of Ikea rye crispbread things with Philadelphia and parma ham (which wasn't too bad). But then got hungry and had the other half of the roll and more cheese! And then ate some apple compote with cinnamon.
S home made fish pie but had 1.5 portions and there was loads of butter in the sauce and in the potatoes ... oh dear ... although thinned mash down with pea puree (Jamie Oliver tip).

Did snack too: four strawberries, a thimbleful of Noilly Prat (cook's snifter!), a tiny chocolate hen and a tiny toddler size pkt of ruddy Haribo and a couple of swigs of non-alchoholic beer when I was out. NOT good at all. Think I may have, in one day, put back any weight I might have lost in previous five days ... .

eltsihT · 24/04/2016 08:47

61.9kg last Sunday 60.4kg this week.

I actually am amazed, I have felt like I have cheated loads but apparently just being aware of what I am eating has helped a lot.

I do think I need to be careful though. I have been having some dizzy spells so have started taking my iron tablets again.

Getting to an maintaining 60kg is my goal, I think the maintaining is going to be hard as my weight went up again so quickly when I stopped being conscious of what I was eating.

SpareCrust · 24/04/2016 09:40

Congratulations on your weight loss eltsihT! Really well done!

Do watch those dizzy spells though [stern looks over pince nez].

Yesterday:
B one boiled egg, two pieces white toast (one with scraping of jam and butter)
L tiny bacon sandwich with hp sauce
S 1.5 helpings of fish pie with big portion of mixed veg followed by diet version of apple crumble ie crumble of nuts and a few plain biscuits, no fat.

Five Haribo sweets. One banana. Five strawberries.

I have lost exactly one kilo this week (although concerned for next week because I basically didn't eat one whole day last Wed because I was feeling a bit off). But if that is what it takes ... .

grumpysquash3 · 25/04/2016 17:37

Hi,
Is it just the three of us now, do you think?

I was in Amsterdam for a girls weekend and the diet has suffered in a big way. Today I weigh 71kg, which is nearly 3kg more than my recent lightest.

I am trying to sort it out, but finding it really hard to shift the carb cravings.

I can easily resist Haribo though, I am not overly keen on them. :)

SpareCrust · 25/04/2016 18:31

Waves to Grumpy! Looks like it is just us three here!

Good luck with kicking that 3 kilos in to touch.

I have found the carb cravings difficult today too. I've had a reasonable day but not great.

B modest helping of banana and strawberries with touch of lemon juice and 1/4 tsp sugar
L bowl of home made chick pea, root veg and butternut squash soup with two v thin pieces Maredsous cheese, bunch of grapes
S cold pork with fried new pots, peas and mustard

Succumbed to two tiny Italian biscuits with my coffee and one piece of bread with Philadelphia cheese during day.

And am off to school meeting now so no doubt will need Wine later!

Waves to everyone who is about!

eltsihT · 26/04/2016 18:19

I hope everyone else has found something to work for them.

I think this is going to be a bad week

Monday
B - coffee and 1 breakfast biscuit
L - sandwich yoghurt and orange
D- asparagus and chicken spaghetti
But I also had 4 chocolate with dh and ate a tonne of egg fried rice I made the kids for dinner.

Today I have managed to loose my glasses which I can't see without.

B coffee and a breakfast biscuit
L sandwich and yoghurt
D. Chicken curry

But I have already had a wee pot of nuts.
